  • Part 2 of my ADU build in Carlsbad, Ca. This guest house casita has been a dream for over 10 years. It was built over an old deck that sat over the garage. The deck leaked and we saw it as an unusable piece of real estate that could be better used as an guest house.
    So we took the existing deck and one of the existing bedrooms and converted it into an ADU/Guest Studio. It's just under 400 sq-ft but it feels much larger due to the high ceilings.

    In this episode we show some of the framing, the finishing of the roof, and the beginning of the plumbing. Below I will layout the timeline of events.
    8/7: First day of demo
    8/9: floor joists installed
    8/13: Start flooring for new bedroom above entry way and flooring
    8/15: walls start going up
    8/17: we start painting starter boards;
    8/19: we remove iron railing in loft; roof framing starts
    8/21: facia and starter boards installed
    8/22 Plywood over roof and walls installed
    8/28: Roof tar paper installed
    8/29: Tile roof ing delivered and start of install
    9/24: Plumbing starts.
    10/2 Plumbing finished tied into existing sewer drain.
    10/9: Running copper for bath and kitchen
    10/11: Window installation starts
