    Dude I stumbled across you on Tonight. Man you remind me of myself in so many ways. I can tell you love this job and dedicate yourself to being the best at it on a daily basis. I love framing as well. Not to mention you take pride in driving a nail. That’s hard to find in anyway. I’d be up for a nail driving competition if your down. I’m sick with it too. Also hand driving rafters at the wall is the ONLY way in my opinion. Gives me joy to see a younger man taking pride in this trade. I’m only 27 lol but still

      @@certifiedladderholder man same here. I’m excited to put my bags on every morning and get to work. I’m hopefully getting my own crew together in the next year so can’t wait for that. Also I have the stiletto TI bone 2. I want the Martinez M1 so bad but I can’t justify paying the money for it. Would it be well worth it in your opinion or no? Because the TI to me is just so comfortable and what I love but it’s getting some wear on it. Not sure how long the grip will last

    • @certifiedladderholder
      @certifiedladderholder  2 года назад +1

      @@austinjohnson4220 The M1 is a great hammer definitely. It has a way different feel to the Ti Bone though. I love how comfortable the Ti Bone feels too but the M1 has its own feel. Having the ability to replace the grip and the head is an absolute win in my opinion. I think it’s well worth the money. Once you get used to how it swings, you can drive nails like a champ👍

    That is crazy you guys are doing hand cut roof! You think, especially with the price of materials nowadays that trusses are the only way to go. We only do hand cuts if there is going to be living space up there. Is that standard in your area or something. That's got to be crazy expensive

  • @Tyler-ol6gm
    @Tyler-ol6gm Год назад +1

    How do you sheet on the ground? Mind going more into detail? Boss is worried about it floating if floor isn't perfect. You obviously square them on ground, what else?

    • @certifiedladderholder
      @certifiedladderholder  Год назад +2

      We see crews all around wait to sheet their walls after they stand them. Obviously no floor is perfect but if you square the walls and we always triple check with 2 people, they should be just fine. I can’t remember having many problems with the plates ever floating off the ground. Another thing we do is we hang our sheets down to either tie into the rim board beneath or leave the sheets up so we can tie the wall in later. On walls that are butting other exteriors we leave our corners out and only sheet the middle. That way we can tie every corner in later from the outside. When it comes down to plum and line, we go around and double check our exterior corners. We’ve only had maybe 2 or 3 walls in the years I’ve worked here that needed a little push or pull with the machine.

    • @certifiedladderholder
      @certifiedladderholder  Год назад +1

      Also another thing, say you stand the wall without sheeting it. If you have ups and downs in your floor, the wall is going to follow those ups and downs. If you sheet it while the plate is nailed on a straight chalk line, it will remain pretty straight when you stand it. I’d rather have to shim the gaps in the floor than have a wall with a bunch of waves in it. Shimming can also be done with your green plate to insure everything is 👌

    Hey man im in lafayette, looking to get into carpentry after school, I have some questions that no one seems to be able to answer for me.
    Should I do an apprenticeship through the union, if not what are my other options?
    What are apprentices and journeyman making $ here in northwest Indiana?

    • @certifiedladderholder
      @certifiedladderholder  2 года назад

      Im in the process of 1-2 videos explaining how to get into the trade and what to expect. So I’ll be able to give a better explanation soon. I’m not too familiar with the union side of things in our area but you can make anywhere from $13 starting out as an apprentice all the way up to $40-$45. Non-union framing contractors typically pay around that same scale based off of experience and quality of work.
