    My wife and I just purchased our first Sterns & Foster mattress.
    We went with their top of the line Reserve Duet king mattress and also added a tempur - ergo pro smart base for our captains bed oak frame as well with all the remote function bell and whistles
    We have never spent this much on a mattress system before, but we look at it as an investment. We have in the past bought middle of the road mattresses that have made it 6 yrs or so but brought lots of pain in many ways. Lol.
    We are 57 now, and I have medical issues I contend with from two tramatic brain injuries, and my wife has lower back pain.
    We figure if we can get 10 years minimum, we can definitely say it was worth the cost both financially and health wise.
    We should be getting delivery in two weeks and look forward to our first great night of sleep in a long time.

    Thanks for this review of Stearns and Foster. Every since I sold furniture and mattresses years ago. Tempur-Pedic and Stearns and Foster have been the two mattress that have always thought were quality mattresses. I had the Tempur-Pedic Cloud Supreme and it was awesome! At this point I want to get a hybrid as I am not liking the sinking into the mattress anymore.
    I am glad to see that Tempur-Pedic has a hybrid at Costco however it is pricey. Costco has the Stearns and Foster Studio mattress that is priced pretty good. So far it is at the top of my list.

    Our RESERVE was delivered yesterday and our first night was very comfortable. I have a few spinal issues and have not slept well in four years. I need a fairly firm mattress for my spine yet a softness on top for pressure points. We've gone through two mattresses in three years. One was top of the line Tempurpedic which did me well for almost a year until my spinal issues become worse requiring a firmer mattress but one to protect pressure points issues due to fibromyalgia. I have to give it a few months to be certain but after sleeping for six hours instead of the usual maximum three....I am feeling pretty confident this will serve me well. They are costly but after considering the price one pays for health wise due to true chronic insomnia, doctor visits, physical therapy, pain medications etc it was well worth it for us.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  8 месяцев назад +2

      Most of these models use a touch of Tempur memory foam for pressure relief (this is called Tempur-Indulge in the Stearns advertising), but this is usually about an inch to an inch and a half and balanced by the quilt and other poly foam. So despite the small amount of shared material, we wouldn't expect any of these models to really feel like a Tempur-Pedic. I hope that's helpful.

    We decided to go with the Reserve Duet king mattress with the Ergo pro smart base.
    Since we currently have a captains bed frame and sits to high we de ided to have a custom Amish bed frame made for our new purchase.
    We are really making this a investment for our health and well-being at 57 yrs.

    Great review! We just hit the 2 month mark on the Reserve Medium tight top and it’s been amazing! We were initially concerned about the memory foam feel as we prefer to sleep on top of our mattress, but honestly hasn’t been an issue at all. Just enough conformity for side sleep without the trapped feeling of MF.
    Our last mattress was a S&F and lasted for 10 years. I’m aware of complaints of premature sagging with S&F but that wasn’t our experience and time will tell with this one. Thanks again for your review!

    I’m trying to decide which mattress might be best for my needs. I was looking at the lux estate pillowtop medium, lux estate hybrid medium or lux estate reserve medium tight top or medium pillowtop. I’m female 5’8” 140. I have arthritis in my hips and sleep in all positions. Trying to find something pressure relieving for my hips and supportive enough for my back is so tricky. I wasn’t sure if the reserve would be a good option because of micro coils. I was thinking maybe would give me more support for back while still being pressure relieving. I realize all these also have very thick foam layers so not sure I’m on the right path. I also considered purples rejuvenate premier and would be open to that as well.

I’m 210lbs but 6’3 and still skinny. I workout every day and need pressure relief as my arms fall asleep when sleeping on my side. • @goodbed
      @goodbed  7 месяцев назад +2

      Hi there -- This is a bit of a tricky case because it sounds like you have some pretty acute pressure-relief needs when sleeping on your side, and many of the mattresses that will be best in providing that pressure relief can be particularly problematic when sleeping on your stomach (to the extent that you still migrate to that position in your sleep). Of the three you are looking at, I would lean toward the Lux Estate Soft Pillow Top for side sleeping and pressure relief, but for balancing side and stomach sleeping I'd lean toward one of the other two. Here's a comparison of our assessments for those 3 models: www.goodbed.com/mattress-model/stearns-foster-lux-estate-medium-euro-pillow-top/#materials-construction
      If you're open to options from other brands, I just used our advanced search tool to look for mattresses that have top quartile spinal alignment for a side/stomach combo sleeper plus top quartile pressure relief (I used 150-200 lb weight range for you, since that data is a bit more applicable in your case), and did find the Casper Wave Hybrid to be a uniquely good option in your case. This mattress is currently being replaced with a new 2024 lineup, so it is also marked down considerably at the moment from the prices we show on our site: www.goodbed.com/mattress-model/casper-wave-hybrid/
      I hope that's helpful.

    I can't decide between the Estate Ultra Firm of the Estate Lux Ultra firm. Can someone please clarify the top layers?
    It sounds like the Estate Ultra Firm just has 3/4 in of the memory foam and Estate Lux Ultra Firm has 3/4 in of memory foam PLUS the 1" Latex? Or do they remove the memory foam completely in the Lux and replace with the latex?
    Just wondering if the Ultra Firm Lux has the Memory foam and the latex or just the latex?
    Also wondering what the true height of these Ultra Firms are? are they both 14.5" or is one slightly shorter? I guess if they completely replace the 3/4" of memory foam with 1" of latex than they would be practically the msame height (+.25") or if they are adding 1" of latex to the 3/4" memory foam then wouldn't it be 1" taller? The S&F website says they are the same height.
    Why can't S&F just give us all of these details on their website?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  9 месяцев назад +2

      Hi Paul -- Good question! Our records show that the Lux Estate version contains both the memory foam and the latex, and that it is 1" taller than the Estate version. I recently bought the estate tight top firm. It is too firm for my husband who is side sleeper and is complaining of his arm going numb. We are both side sleepers and weight category for us is in 190-260 for both of us. I want something that is a little firm where we don't "sink in" the bed, but something soft enough for side sleeping and occasional back sleeping.
    I'm thinking of exchanging it for : 1 of these three :
    Estate soft pillowtop (which felt kind of medium in the store). but I’m afraid the pillow top will wear out, what is your opinion on this ? ? I was seriously considering this one but didn't want it to feel so soft we both won't get that firmness(or support) we are looking for.
    Estate medium tight top or the lux estate medium tight top.
    What do you recommend????

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  7 месяцев назад +1

      Hi there -- Thanks for your question. Based on this info, I would actually concur with your instinct to go with the Estate Soft Pillowtop.
      Looking at the amount and quality of the foam in that model, and comparing it to the other (tight top) models, I don't think the risks of it wearing out are materially different.
      More generally, I think that model is just a little better for you guys and your side sleeping + occasional back sleeping. Here's a comparison of our assessments of all 3 of these that illustrates this: www.goodbed.com/compare/?mod=stearns-foster-estate-medium-tight-top&mod=stearns-foster-estate-soft-euro-pillow-top&mod=stearns-foster-lux-estate-medium-tight-top&mod=stearns-foster-estate-firm-tight-top
      I also included the Firm Tight Top for reference. As you can see, the pressure relief in that model is by far the worst of all 4 of these, which I believe is the reason your husband has been having trouble with his arm going numb.
      I hope that's helpful.

    Hi - I appreciate your videos! I recently purchased the Lux Estate PT Firm and it slept incredibly hot for me and my partner. I think this is due to the pillow top being all foam and not great at heat dispersement, despite the "cooling cover" and air vents, but I'm curious to get your thoughts on the other options I'm considering for my replacement mattress:
    - Stearns & Foster Estate Firm: I read your review that said it has 1.5" of memory foam, which is still a good amount, but I imagine less than the pillow top version, do you think this would be a suitable replacement?
    - Beautyrest Black L Class Firm: I read your review that says it has 3/4" foam built into the cover and 1" total memory foam throughout so would you say this mattress has less memory foam than the S&F Estate Firm mattress and perhaps a better option? Or, does this one have 1.75" of foam throughout?
    Really just looking for a high quailty firm mattress that doesn't sleep hot, so less memory foam is probably best.
    Thank you in advance for any insight!

I like the feel but it was killing my shoulder ,i sink in but no support and i wake up with a weak feeling in the back and a throbbing shoulder. It was hurting bad. I'd probably recommend sticking with the model you have and seeing how that goes over the trial period. Hope that helps!

    I think there is a small mistake during the minute 17 mark. I think you mentioned that lux estate pillow top models get increased in coil count because of the zoned coils but as far as i know its because of the micro coil layer added in the pillow top makes the coil coint higher.

      @goodbed  2 месяца назад +1

      Hey Andrew! Love the attention to detail here. This is indeed a small mistake on our part. The increase in coil count/density in these models is from the use of additional microcoils, although we should mention that there's another slightly different step up in coil count/density in the next line (the Reserve models) which use a different coil unit with "nested" coils. We've just added a correction to the video to clarify this. Good catch!

      Hi Tammie -- Thanks for your question. Yes, the Lux Estate Firm Pillow Top is actually a Medium on our softness spectrum, not a Firm. And we actually rated the Medium Pillow Top as a Medium as well, so these two models are quite similar in terms of their softness levels. That said, the Medium Pillow Top does have more Cushioning Depth (in particular, you'll tend to nestle a little further down into that one), and a bit more Memory Feel as well. We bought an aireloom m2 luxury firm mattress and it has much too much conformance. We are small people and we sink deeply into the tufting, causing sore hips and lower back. Have only had it a month.
    Considering the lux estate pillow top firm.
    Was surprised by your answer below that it is a 5 on your scale and that the medium tight top and medium pillow top in the lux estate collection are a bit firmer at a 6 than the firm pillow top.
    We found them to be softer in the showroom.
    Can you please clarify?
    I’ve called Stearns and foster directly and they just read from the descriptions. Telling me that the lux estate pillow top is a 6-7. The estate pillow top firm is an 8
    You have the best reviews I have seen.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  7 месяцев назад

      Hi Angela -- Thank you for your kind words! I think you may be getting confused by the numbers we provided. On our scale, a higher number means softer, with 9 being the softest, 1 being the firmest, and 5 being right smack in the middle. So if we said one mattress is a 6 and the other is a 5, that means the 6 is a little softer. I hope that's helpful.
      FWIW, if you're curious about why we do it this way, it's because "firmness" isn't really a design feature on any mattresses made in the past 30 years -- firmness is merely the lack of cushioning with the floor being the ultimate example of "firm". Thus rating mattresses on a "firmness scale" is backwards -- it would be like rating lightbulbs on a "darkness scale," where the highest rating is the darkest, and the lowest is the brightest. Unfortunately, a lot of fly-by-night mattress review websites have popped up in recent years and, in their lack of any expertise about mattresses, have adopted a "firmness" scale. This has added a lot of confusion to the market, and even caused some manufacturers to feel the need to fit their info to this backward scale. Hopefully as consumers get wiser, these sites will eventually go out of business, but until then we are left with this unfortunate confusion.
      Have a great day.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  7 месяцев назад

      Hi Angela -- I just looked at the 3 models you mentioned and we actually rate all 3 of them VERY similar on their softness levels. All 3 of them are a Medium, and when I look at the decimal points on our ratings (which we don't publish), they're even pretty close within the Medium classification.
      That said, we did find some differences between these 3 models on our Cushioning Depth scale (which some manufacturers, including the parent company of Stearns & Foster, conflate with softness). Cushioning Depth is what determines the amount of sinkage and conformance you get on the mattress, which CAN be related to the amount of pillowy softness a mattress has, but isn't always. (Think of an ultra firm Tempur-Pedic mattress that you eventually sink deeply into as a good example of how these characteristics can be very divergent.)
      The Firm EPT had the least amount of sinkage, which gave it the lowest cushioning depth rating. While the Medium EPT had the most sinkage and the most conformance, which gave it the highest cushioning depth. The Medium TT had more sinkage but less conformance, which put it in the middle. Here you can see a full side-by-side comparison of these three models:

    Which is best for low back pain? Back and side sleeper. And has cooling ability? Thanks!

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  10 месяцев назад +2

      Hi there -- Low back pain is a result of your spine not being held in proper alignment, which in turn is a function of how well the mattress fits your particular weight and body shape in your preferred sleep position(s). This means that there is no universal answer to which mattress will minimize back pain -- whether in this line or in general. For a back and side sleeper, you're typically going to want something that's between Medium-Firm and Medium-Soft, depending mainly on a) how much you weigh (the more, the firmer), b) how much time you spend on your side (the more, the softer), c) how wide your shoulders and hips are (the wider, the softer), and d) how susceptible you are to pressure points when sleeping on your side (the more, the softer).
      Focusing on the Lux Estate models, there are 4 pretty good choices here. Choosing the right one will depend on the factors I outlined above, but on average I would say the Firm Euro Pillow Top and Medium Euro Pillow Top would be the best two choices. You can see a full side-by-side comparison of all our assessments of these models here:
      www.goodbed.com/compare/?mod=stearns-foster-lux-estate-firm-euro-pillow-top&mod=stearns-foster-lux-estate-medium-euro-pillow-top&mod=stearns-foster-lux-estate-medium-tight-top&mod=stearns-foster-lux-estate-soft-euro-pillow-top
      The good news is that from a cooling standpoint, all 4 of these should perform quite similarly.
      I hope that's helpful.

    Currently we have the Nolah evolution in “plush” and I am still not able to sleep on my side because I have curvy hips and tend to get sharp hip pains on mattresses that are obviously not working and I also sleep on my back, but have lordosis with extra curvature of the lower spine in need all that support. The Nolah is just not doing it for us to the point where we had to add a three or 4 inch memory foam on top just to get a little bit more comfort. I remember one time staying at an Airbnb where the mattress just immediately made me feel like I was surrounded by a Cloud of soft, fluffy feathers but was also supportive enough, but not hard or firm. That is the type of bed I am looking for. I want to feel like the top is very soft and plush and feather bed like but also supportive enough, I know that there are some high-end hotels that make their own brand of mattresses with companies, and I’m wondering if there are any of those or other brands that you recommend for what I’m looking for. Thank you.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  8 месяцев назад

      Hey there!
      This is a difficult question actually. Softness is very subjective, and sometimes model that are too soft can throw people out of alignment AND still induce pressure point pain on hips and shoulders. For this reason, we generally feel most comfortable recommend models around a Medium in terms of overall firmness. These can provide that sense of surface softness whilst still providing a stable sense of support.
      With regards to hotel models - these are typically pocket coil models made by Serta, Beautyrest, or Sealy. All of these companies sell hotel models to the public, but these are unlikely to be much different than the already publicly available models.
      Have you been able to make it into any local stores to get a better sense of what you like? We do have store locators for most brands.

You can see that model here: www.goodbed.com/o/p/412514/stearns-foster-lux-estate-soft-euro-pillow-top/stearns-foster/stearns-foster/
      That said, given your weight and the other criteria you mentioned, I think you might also want to take a look at the new Lux Hybrid Soft. It has very similar amount of upper level softness to the Cassatt Plush Pillow Top, but with an even more flexible coil system. You can find that model here: www.goodbed.com/o/p/412542/stearns-foster-lux-hybrid-soft/stearns-foster/stearns-foster/
      Also, in case you want to save some extra money, you should also take a look at our S&F profile page. Depending on where you shop, you may be able to get $100 or more in extra cash back from GoodBed after you purchase. You can find that here: www.goodbed.com/mattresses/stearns-foster/

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  7 месяцев назад +2

      Hi Alex -- Yes, that Estate Medium Tight Top is one of two additional models that S&F has released since we filmed this video. It is actually much closer to the Soft Tight Top than it is to the Firm Tight Top. Technically, we classify it as a Medium-Firm, however it is on the softest end of that classification, very close to being a Medium. By the same token, the Soft Tight Top is toward the softest end of the Medium classification, so they are about 1 full point apart. I hope that's helpful.

    How’s the quality and comfort compared to aireloom? Thx

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  10 месяцев назад +2

      Hi Jeff, this is a really tough question to answer. First, comfort is entirely subjective. But second, comfort will be entirely model-specific so can't be compared -- or even described -- at the product line level.
      In terms of quality, this is much more objective, but will vary quite a bit across an entire line of products. For example, S&F has nearly 20 models across their current line-up, and Aireloom has about 10 models in their Preferred collection (which is by far their most popular). In each case, these models span a wide range of price points (with S&F spanning an even wider range than Aireloom) -- and accordingly, have a wide range of feels, features, and materials.
      In general, both Aireloom and Stearns & Foster are high-end luxury mattress brands that tend to use premium materials and more traditional (higher quality) methods of mattress construction. With all that said, here are a few thoughts on some key differences.
      First, at any given price point, an Aireloom mattress will tend to contain more natural materials, such as cotton, wool, and latex. Secondly, Aireloom mattresses are functionally tufted, which means their layers are cinched together by strands of heavy thread pulled through the mattress from the top to the bottom, a method that helps to pre-compress the materials and avoids the use of glue. One side effect of this pre-compression is that it can obscure the differences in softness between various comfort materials. To compensate for this, Aireloom enhances the variation in its feels by using a much softer coil unit for its plush models than it does in its firm and luxury firm models.
      By contrast, at any given price point, Stearns & Foster tends to use more high-quality memory foam, such as the Tempur-Indulge material that we describe in this video. This material helps with pressure relief and will tend to give the average S&F mattress a bit more memory feel. There are also many differences from a support standpoint, starting with the fact that (with the exception of the Studio collection) S&F mattresses all use an IntelliCoil support unit. As we explained in the video, this is an individually-encased coil-in-coil design that is able to offer variable levels of support to better adapt to different body sizes and shapes in different sleep positions. S&F also uses edge coils instead of a foam perimeter, which gives its mattresses significantly more air flow at the support level of the mattress. And in its higher end models, S&F adds zoning to give its mattresses even more support under the heaviest part of our body (the hips).
      I hope that's helpful.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  Год назад +2

      Hi there -- Stearns & Foster is a MAP-priced product, which means that S&F sets a price that its retailers are not allowed to sell below. Likewise, the timing and max amount of any seasonal discounts are also set by S&F. This is the same price and discounts that S&F offers on its own website so most retailers sell for this same price and opt into these same periodic discounts. In such cases, whatever price you see is the best available price. If you come across a price below that, my suspicion would be that something is not on the up and up -- eg, it could be used merchandise, a fake product, some kind of clearance item, etc. I hope that's helpful.

      Hi Angela -- I'm not quite sure what you're asking here, but a couple things to note here that might help clarify. First is that every manufacturer is different in how they evaluate softness, what they measure, and what they consider to be soft, firm, medium, etc. This is why we have a unified scale that we apply very consistently across all brands and products. Second is are you sure the S&F scale is the same as ours? On our scale, 9 is the softest and 1 is the firmest.
      I hope that's helpful.

The MSRP is $5,200 and he got it to me delivered for $1,560. That’s 70% discount and they are still making a healthy profit of at least 200% on that transaction alone. The only thing sold today with better profit margins are Diamonds (which are a complete scam).

      Hi Greg -- Thanks for your comment. This video is an overview of the entire product line, not an in-depth review of a particular model. As such, we weren't able to discuss every feature and characteristic in great detail.
      In general, you're correct. Memory foam tends to be denser than conventional foam, so this can indeed trap heat for people who either naturally give off a lot of excess heat during the night or whose bedroom climates lead to excess heat being generated. For other people, this concern is often overblown.
      In terms of these particular models, all of them do use at least some memory foam in their comfort layers, as well as a lot of comfort foam in general. That said, there are offsetting factors as well, most notably the fact that all of them have edge to edge coils in the support layer of the mattress, which helps a lot with airflow. On balance, we put most of them between pretty good and good on our rating scale on this dimension (ie, 6-7), though the Lux Hybrids would be below that.
      For more details on any particular model, or to view as many as 5 of them side by side on this and any other dimension, you can use our side-by-side comparison tool here: www.goodbed.com/compare/
