  • @moistnar
    @moistnar 5 лет назад +802

Here's my personal take on the Alabama thing:
The humanity/person-ness of a fetus is an unanswerable question. We can yell at each other until we're red in the face and it isn't going to change anything, because that answer is subjective, and has to do with your personal philosophy and moral tenets: that is to say, it depends on what your personal definition of "life" is.
So I'm not going to talk about that.
Instead, let's consider a tangential situation:
Someone lies dying on a hospital bed. Both of their kidneys have failed. They require an immediate kidney donation, and you are the only viable donor that is close enough to make the donation in time.
Is it the right thing to do? Yes.
Is it the moral/ethical thing to do? Absolutely
Should the law require you to do it? Well...
    That's a bit more complicated, isn't it?
What if you have a rare condition where going under anesthetic to complete the procedure has a high chance of killing you?
What if your kidneys have a high likelihood of failure at some point in the future, and losing one of them puts you at dramatically increased risk?
What if your religious beliefs prevent organ donation?
What if doing this procedure runs the risk of complications that could keep you in the hospital for weeks, causing you to lose your job?
There are a million reasons why you wouldn't want to donate. The point is, I don't think the government should be able to force you to give up your bodily autonomy to save someone else's life. Let the power of public morality shun and despise those who wouldn't donate the kidney, but to force someone to do it against their will goes against the very ideas enshrined in our founding documents: many conservatives point to the "right to life", but in this specific instance often forget about the words that immediately follow those: "right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." After all, what good is life if you aren't free?
The same logic applies to abortion. Whether a fetus is a person or not doesn't matter; that doesn't give them a right to supersede your bodily autonomy. You are not, and should not be, legally responsible for their survival. If you feel like your own morals compel you to save their life, then great, do it! If you feel the need to reprimand those who would choose to abort, okay, you're fully within your rights to scorn them for their choices, just as they are within their rights to scorn you. But don't force someone into a position where they have NO CHOICE but to adhere to your moral code, because that isn't what this country is about.

      @sanazbani1427 5 лет назад +77

I really appreciate this comment, I couldn't have said it better myself.
I'm still torn/leaning on the side of 'life does not begin at conception' but you're absolutely right, in that we may never really have an answer to when they are technically a 'person', and focusing on that argument is ignoring the entire other side of the issue; the right of the woman herself to choose what she wants to do with her own body.

Exactly. I feel like these outdate baby boomers think if they make abortion legal we'll all just be like "welp, i missed my period. I'll hit up the abortion clinic on my way to work". A lot of women keep their baby and it changes their life for the better. But alot of women can't or dont want to and it DOES ruin their life and ruin that child's life if they're born by somebody who clearly acts like they dont want them or they get lost in foster care and end up in crime. There are so many kids who are in abusive foster care homes because there are so many kids that i feel like the standards of a foster parent are lowered because of this.
there are women who dont want a baby.. they get pregnant.. and are like.. you know what... i can do this.
and there are women who get pregnant, kids is born into a bad life, abused, and lost in the system because after the kid is born, pro-life people usually dont care what happens after that sadly =( and the ones who do are heavily underfunded.

They are under absolutely no obligation to provide that organ to you because forcing them to is a violation of autonomy. When studying the US Supreme Court, there are important things to consider. If the founding fathers vision is upheld, a supreme justice is meant to act on interpreting the constitution NOT upholding party standards and views. It is incorrect to see a supreme justice as democrat or republican instead they should be view as strict constructionist, originality, loose constructionist or living constructionist.
This means they should impartially look and determine what the constitution says literally or apply the constitution to today.
Legally if they were to uphold their duty they would see that the main point of America, their constitution and the founding fathers views was the idea of liberty and that the people of America would be free to decide their own fate, without a national or state religion coming into play.
Justices are also meant to follow precedent.
There is no legal reason why these bills should be passed into law because they are unconstitutional and undemocratic. Frankly they’re unpatriotic. As America’s you should look to uphold liberty and democracy.
I’m very disheartened at how far modern America has strayed from the founding fathers view. Very unpatriotic and hypocritical.

Rebecca Matthews So I am. The thing you seem to have missed is that I didn’t provide an argument. I swapped 2 words for each other.
Both are immoral, and one is obviously an exaggeration. If your issue is with the extent of that exaggeration (lying is immoral but it shouldn’t be outlawed), then in this case the problem comes down to the nature of a fetus. If your issue is with the wording of my ‘argument’ (other than the exaggeration), then it comes down not to the nature of women’s rights. Or it’s both.
If its the first (which it is judging from your response) you must tell me the criteria for human life. It’s a valid argument and one I will respect. If evidence is presented to show how fetuses and only fetuses don’t qualify for ‘human life’ I will be thrilled to change my mind. I don’t have political allegiances, am atheist, and would not want a child.
If it’s the second (regarding controlling women or that I’m a religious dogmatic) I will walk away from this conversation. I don’t respect arguments that rely on the premise that I want to control women or that women are entitled to control. Much like I’m not entitled to take my arm and punch you in the throat, there are some things we aren’t entitled to do with our body IF and only if it interferes with others’ rights. Therefore, this argument does not hold its own if a fetus is human life. And if a fetus isn’t, then this argument is just redundant.

The most terrifying thing about the abortion laws and views in certain states in the US is that no one has considered that this planet in fact has too many people on it, and by limiting or stopping abortions altogether does not just effect the woman and families directly, but also has national and international implications.
Climate change, the waste problem, the plastic crisis, habitat destruction, the next mass extinction; all of this is effected by the demands our growing population has on the planet. These laws that protect people that don't exist will just exacerbate the massive problems that the rest of us face.

Or what about after years of child abuse being born into an impoverished family that can't watch you all the time and has to leave you with family members that molest you and young child shut down and don't say what's going on or the mother puts the blinders on because she's been in the same situation of generational molestation. I don't know I've been a suicidal child most my life I remember being suicidal before I was 5 years old and before I knew what the word was. But I feel utterly lost now that I'm an adult people discourage me from even getting a service dog which helps me take my medications on time because I'll tend to turn off the alarm and I can forget the dog also helps me go to sleep on time because there are times where even with my medication I can stay up till 2 a.m. in the morning and have severe insomnia the dog kind of keeps me in line. And there's a bunch of other things I can go into but the point is that even getting my monthly medications is hard enough I'm lucky that I have a great insurance this year. But yeah I know one seems to give a damn once you're not a kid even though you're a very caring good adult maybe not perfect but everyone so precious when their unborn yet no one gives a crap about you once you start turning into a teenager. It's the puppy phase we do it with hundreds of thousands of dogs and cats every year we kill them yet they have a cognitive ability of 3 to 5 year olds. we killed him just because there's too many and nobody wants them. It's a sad truth but it is there. I'm not saying I have the perfect answer I don't think anybody does which is why I don't think there should be laws made about it other than the basic kind of things like okay you can't do an abortion by just stabbing someone in the stomach. always wonder who's lobbying this kind of stuff because pro-life or pro-choice I don't believe any of the politicians care about people. makes you wonder about the child trafficking and if they just want more children in there you know it's easier for foster children and children who have been through the Foster program for years to just go missing. Many of them are written off as Runaways and have delinquent past because of the chaotic upbringing or at least an unsociable record

    • @LXDV
      @LXDV 5 лет назад +7

Michael Robinett In Australia the reason abortion is legal is not because of some pro life vs pro-choice argument. Abortion is legal because women who want one are going to find a way to get one with or without a doctors help, especially scared teen mums. The result is backyard abortions and manual attempts to terminate the pregnancy which put both the mothers and the baby’s life at risk. Under a legalised system where abortion can be regulated and controlled, space is created for people in difficult situations to make the decision that is right for them and the baby when they are presented with options on how to proceed with the pregnancy.
Just think about that scared teen mum who accidentally falls pregnant, she scared to tell her family and puts her own life in risk with some backyard operation VS Knowing that termination is an option so she can seek professional help and go to someone who can help counsel her through the correct choice.
Which may very well be proceeding with the pregnancy and offering support with telling the family and providing her with options for adoption afterwards. I never hear discussed in the American argument. There seems to be this idea the doctors and nurses that assist with abortions are just out to kill babies and that couldn’t be further from the truth.

10:30 And who is going to guarantee that love and protection because we have 443,000 children in foster care without homes on any given day in America.
Forcing someone to give birth to a child that they can not (because of maternal age, physical/mental or financial ability) or do not want to (in the case of rape or incest) take care of just puts a burden on our foster care system, sending those children into homes of potentially worse situations than if they were hol' up in a homeless shelter or child care facility until they are 18 at which point they are on their own.
The other case would be for them to be raised by their biological mother/parent who was ill equipped to care for them in the first place which can damage them just the same as our foster care system.
People have this dreamy idea of the adoption system- that there's loads of people lining up to care for unwanted children but the fact of the matter is that only 4% of Americans adopt and I can't find a statistic on how many of those were foreign.
It has nothing to do with the fetus and it's right to love and protection because if that were the case, she'd have a large family of adopted children and so would all of those who voted for this bill.

It’s good that you’re concerned about the foster care system, because it is a badly broken system. When we’re discussing it in the context of abortion though, it’s important to recognize that there are different kinds of adoptions. When a pregnant woman chooses adoption she gets connected with an agency that helps her place the child with a loving family. This child is not put into the foster care system, but is adopted from birth. In contrast, in a foster care situation, children have been removed from the custody of their parents and are waiting to be returned to their parents, other relatives, or to be adopted by a different family. So while adoptions may occur in both situations, they are taking place in two entirely separate systems.

Because she was going to publish content less frequently and she feared that maybe that was going to hurt her channel.... Then the vitamin tantrum video got published. As soon as this happened, I stopped following her. To make such a crying ranting tantrum video over having a friend working with other businesses or competitors is not just wrong but also out of line...(also so convenient to bring drama to her channel and get way more exposure for her business and to get followers)... Its business, imho your friend can support your business and another businesses too. If your product is good, it will speak by its own!! I found very toxic, how she was telling us that that was friendship betrayal. It is toxic that if you help someone as a friend or mentor, you have to rub every single thing you did for them on their face. When you truly mean well and do something for someone else, you do it without expecting things in return; without expecting eternal loyalty and some sort of ownership on them. As a friend or future mother figure, there is a lot to be desired on how she should have behaved overall... You dont expose and trash someone else career like this, when the person was someone you truly deeply cared about!! At this point, I think she mentored him and expected to keep him under her wing, always expecting something in return. And because she could not control completely James to fullfill the 'crazy transactional loyalty' terms she imposed... Then Tati did this out of spice to teach James a 'lesson'....A good mentor and friend would not have created this situation, nor react to their mentee like this either. Very
    dissapointed on your behaviour Tati...

Tough to sympathize when one is claimed to be sexually preying on men and the other is claimed to be sexting and sending/receiving nude pictures from underage people in his fanbase.

I turned out to be one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet and have dedicated my life to helping people. I have saved lives. I AM one of the best examples of why abortions shouldn't be legal and even I think women should have the right to abort if they are not ready to be a parent. Over population and destruction of our planet by our hands aside it is irresponsible to bring another human into this world when you are not ready to be a proper parent.

Therefore you're grateful. It doesn't make a difference to a predeveloped fetus whether they are aborted or not. It only matters to humans who have already been born. Either way. Each woman deserves the right to have an abortion WHATEVER TF her reasons are. But Im glad you are aware/mentioned over population and how it's destroying our planet and that people should ONLY be parents WHEN they are ready..... I agree with both of those points.

Not all lives are worth the same. A developed adult who is contributing to society is worth more than something that resembles a frog in that stage.

Why should the government have a say in what we choose do to with our body? We are giving government too much say in what we do with our body. Look at the drug war for example. Look how many people die bc they use drugs purchases on the black market. The drug war has consequences. People are uneducated about drugs, how to use them safely, what dosage is safe, and bc their is no regulation on the black market you have no idea what substance you're actually using.
The same thing will happen if abortion is illegal. Making a something illegal does not get rid of the demand. Drugs are illegal yet demand is still present. Making abortion illegal the deman will remain. America tried outlawing abortion. Women died. Babies survived abortions attempts. Doctors went to prison.
I dont think government providing for children is enough. It should be a womans choice. Are we going to strap pregnant women down on beds and force them to give birth? Will women look for black market abortion pills and die bc proper follow up appointments aren't an option? Will women who have no business being mothers neglect or abuse those children? Too many unintended consequences.

All of these abortion bills make me so upset. I come from a Christian background, so I understand why people are pro-life, as that's how I was raised. But why is it that once you're pregnant, your life doesn't matter as much? I understand that the lives of babies are important too, but it's like your fundamental rights as a human are stripped away when you become pregnant. People have rights over their bodies for pretty much everything else, but all of a sudden you don't have the rights to your body when you're pregnant? Men don't have to do literally anything after a woman gets pregnant. Why does nothing rest on their shoulders? If we tried to take away men's rights, they would be furious, and no bills would get passed.
I read an interesting comment earlier this week about abortion. It basically was saying that in different scenarios, people have more rights over their bodies than pregnant women. The two examples that they gave were:
    - giving blood. It's pretty safe and quick to do so, but no one can force you to give blood, even if it was going to someone who needed an emergency blood transfusion to live. That infringes on your rights and choices. And,
    - organ donors. If you make that choice, then great, you can potentially help somebody. But if you choose when you're alive that you don't want to be an organ donor and then you die, nobody can take your organs. Corpses are being given more rights over their bodies that they can't use anymore than pregnant women.
Then on the other side of things, but the same problem, if women who are young want to get their tubes tied, they are told no. "What if you want to have children when you're older?" Why should that be a decision that others get more of a say in than you do?
I believe that there is deep-rooted sexism in North America, in more areas of life than just this issue. I think that it often gets ignored and has just kind of become "normal," and I think that people need to recognize that more needs to change.
