10 minutes is absolutely not enough time. Wait at least 20. I totally just ruined a cake that I was baking for a special lady, and followed these directions exactly. Now it’s a one layer cake.
Thankyou! Ive only baked one cake in the last fifteen yrs and it broke as I removed from the pan. Ive discovered Ive got "greaseproof" paper ( as we call it in australia) & was wondering how to use it. Its my girlfriend's 40th birthday tomorrow & I thought she would appreciate a homemade cake so Ive set myself the challenge today. Im actually nervous & anxious about it!! I was wondering "which side" of the paper should go where but get the impression from this it doesnt matter too much!
Wilton's aluminum cake pans do a nice job of even baking...I grease my pans with butter and flour then I put a put a piece of parchment paper that I have cut out to fit in the bottom of the pan works perfect even time...
Never use wax paper instead of parchment paper! It is not heat resistant. Was melts and it can catch fire. Use parchment and spray or cake goop. (Equal amounts of shortening, flour and veg oil blended. Apply to plan with pastry brush)

I would Never dream of using Waxed paper!
Warning: do not use wax paper in oven for any reason. The wax will melt and go into your cooked item.
May i know what flour was used as the base? Is it all purpose flour?
I used a non stick cake pan
Thanks
