How to Get Cake Out of Pan 🍰🎂👨🍳

- Getting a cake from a cake pan is easy. If you properly grease and flour your cake pans, getting cake out of the pan without breaking of sticking is simple.
It is important to remember to remove the cake from the pan before it is completely cooled: the sides of the pan should be cool, but the bottom should still be warm to almost hot. Cooling a cake for about 20 minutes before taking it out of the pan is the perfect amount of time to wait before removing the cake from the cake pan. 🍰🎂👨🍳
How to Get Cake out of Pan:
1. Let cake cool for about 20 minutes before removing from pan. It is easier to get cake out of the pan when the cake is still warm.
2. With the sharp side of the knife facing you, run it around the edge of the pan (you may have to use an up-and-down motion).
3. After the cake is loosened from the sides of the pan, run your knife around the edge, reaching under the cake itself when possible.
4. Cover a large plate with plastic wrap, and put the plastic wrap side down on top of the cake pan.
5. Use both hands to hold the cake pan and plate as one, and flip it upside down: the bottom of the cake pan should now be facing up.
6. Many times, the cake will not fall out of the pan. If it does not:
-tap the bottom of the pan
-shake the cake pan and plate
-run the knife around the edge again

Thank you so much! I’m making cakes to surprise someone for their birthday and was terrified of them falling apart because I’ve never known how to get them out properly

Me: seems easy enough!
*cake breaks in half*
Hi, Ruby!
So sorry to hear about your cake. Unfortunately, I think that the issues started even before you took the cake out of the oven. Here are some reasons why your cake likely broke in half when you tried to take it out of the pan. It's hard to tell exactly what happened, but maybe the pans weren't greased enough, or maybe the batter was undermixed...it could have been a lot of things.
Once again, sorry to hear about what happened. However, every kitchen disaster, just like other mistakes in life, are learning opportunities.
Even though the cake fell apart, I am sure it is still delicious 😀🍰👍
It's my birthday tomorrow and I'm making my cake and forgot to grease the pans 😭

Something I also like to do is take parchment paper, cut it in half but leave it long enough to come up on two sides(it doesn’t need to cover the whole pan), and grease the pan completely with butter. I simply cut around with a knife as you did here and lift up the parchment paper.
Hi, Jerome!
That is a good idea as well. I have seen people use parchment paper in addition to a buttered and floured pan, but I have never tried that. However, I am sure that with the addition of parchment paper, you do not have to worry about your cake sticking to the pan at all!
Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a great week!

Thanks I haven’t made a cake since 2013,..mine was a red velvet cake.
Oh wow, awesome! I am sure that your cake was very delicious. What was the occasion? 🍰
Most of the time I use parchment rounds. If I have to cut them myself I will do it.
I was just talking about parchment in cake pans here a few days ago. I have never used parchment, so this is the only way I know how to get cake out of the pan. However, a friend's mom gave me some parchment paper, so I may have to try that one day!
@@ParnellTheChef I put the bottom of the pan on a cereal box which I had unfolded and traced the shape of the pan, then cut out the shape from the cereal box. When I need a certain shape I just use the cereal box cut out to trace the shape on parchment and then cut as many as I need. It is a good alternative . I also keep the Baker's Joy spray on hand just in case.
@@elliefunt972 That's a good idea with the cereal box--awesome idea, actually.

some advice i learned:
1. put parchment paper in bottom of pan so it doesn't stick (still put cooking spray)
2. do not let cake sit in pan for a long time (take it out a few hours after its done baking)
Hi!
Yes, parchment paper can definitely help--and I definitely agree with not letting the cake sit in the pan too long. I usually let mine sit about 20-30 minutes so that the pans are still warm but I can touch them. I've noticed that if I wait until the cake is cool, it's harder to get out.
Thanks for adding to the info in the comments section!👍🍰

I usually butter and flour my pans and when the cake is done and has cooled a little I shake the pan to see if the the cake jumps out of the pan and if it does then I know it's not sticking and will come out perfectly! If my first method doesnt work then I go for the butter knife method. The cakes look beautiful!
That's a good method! It sounds like our methods for getting cakes out of the pan are similar.
BTW: Have you ever used parchment paper? I hear that's a very good method, too.

You can also use a damp tea towel . When the dish comes from the oven or rice pot , whichever one , place the pan onto a damp tea towel and leave for 1.30 seconds .
I have never heard that before! Thanks for teaching me another way to get cake out of pan.👍
Parnell The Chef I must admit I’ve never tried it with cakes as I never can make sweet dishes , like cakes or pies . They come out disastrous , but it always works with rice
@@annaesmaili4867 so you've never succeeded in making a cake before but felt the need to leave a tip about making cakes even though you've never even tried the tip for a cake?
@@gordo3582 Doesn’t matter
Whether it be rice or anything the damp tea towel always works
So there
Have you ever just tried to line the pan with a little bit of flour and vegetable oil or butter? My experience is that it comes out of the pan effortlessly and it adds a crunchy outer layer to your cake.
I prepared the pan with butter and flour, but I still have to do this to the cake to come out. Do you just turn the pan upside down and it comes right out?
@@ParnellTheChefYes. It does. Unfortunately, I don't really measure the flour and oil for the lining. I just eyeball it. Lol.
Oh, OK. I've never tried flour and oil. I've always done it the old-fashioned way.
BTW: New video coming out later this evening...
Thanks
You're welcome!👍
Hey, I had a thought so I'm asking you, if oil or butter is used it makes a difference or not? Will baked products taste n texture wise be better w butter in them?
Hi, Joanne! Sorry for the late reply. Very busy last couple of days.
Some people say that oil cakes are moister than butter cakes, especially if refrigerated, and that oil cakes are a bit lighter...but I think people could debate that.
However, I think that undeniably there is a difference in taste. A neutral-flavored vegetable oil will not compete with the flavors of a cake, but since butter has a strong flavor, it will compete with the other flavors. Most carrot cake recipes call for oil so that the carrots, spices, etc. come through really strongly. You could definitely use butter if you wanted, but if you do, the flavors of the other ingredients won't be as strong.
I have used both, and honestly, it all depends on what you are trying to accomplish in the recipe. I always recommend following recipes, but if you want to get creative, you might find something you like.
I hope that helps👍🍰
@@ParnellTheChef you don't need to apologise, thank you so much!

Would foil work?
That's a good question. I know some people put rounds of parchment paper in the bottom of their cake pans, but I don't think I've ever heard of foil. It makes sense, but since it can be hard to get foil to lie flat, your cake might not have perfectly even sides of top if you line the pan with foil.
I think that buttering and flouring the pan might be the best option, but if foil works, let me know so I can answer other questions in the future.
Happy Baking!
i love you Parnell
You're welcome! Glad I could help 😉🍰
Hey, thanks for this video! Also, when i went to demould the cake it was falling apart...is it because i didn't let it cool down entirely?
Hi, Joanne!
Sorry to hear that your cake fell apart. I would say that it fell apart because either:
1. The pan was not greased enough
2. Like you said, you did not let it cool down enough
In my experience, there is a "sweet spot" when it comes to taking cakes out of pans. I have noticed that if the cake is cooled completely, it is harder to remove from the pan than if it is still slightly warm. That is why I usually wait about 20 minutes, sometimes 30, before taking it out of the pan.
I hope that helps!🍰
@@ParnellTheChef thank you for responding! I had let it sit for almost ah hour..and was slightly warm to touch from the outside of the tin and it didn't fall entirely but was a lot crumbly, and it contained egg too so... Is it maybe because the cake batter was too thin?
@@joannedmello6204 Maybe it was the batter, I agree. What kind of recipe did you use?
Almost all of my cake recipes contain eggs, so even though I can't tell for sure, I don't think it was the eggs.
How did you measure the flour? Did you weigh it or spoon it into the measuring cup, then level it off? You may have accidentally added too much flour or mixed it too much...
@@ParnellTheChef I used tbsps.
I used this recipe... ruclips.net/video/Sru5rK42GyM/видео.html
I modified a lil by adding 1 tbsp more of flour because is was runny and 2 more tbsp of sugar as the cocoa pwdr which i use is really strong...and i found it bitter so...
@@joannedmello6204 I took a look at the video, and I agree that the batter looks a bit runny. Honestly I think that the problem was that you added too much flour and / or sugar.
Sorry that your cake fell apart. I have had things not work out before, so it happens.
But every failure in the kitchen is a learning experience...that's how I like to look at it.
Lucky you got the cake out
Yes, for sure--but this method works pretty much every time, so be sure to give this a try 👍
And why dont butter the form before putting in the cake
Hi, Rori.
I always butter and flour my cake pans before pouring in the batter. I skipped that part in this video because I figured that if someone is searching for this video, they are past that point, lol

Pan and a cake pancake
Yes, for sure!
I used so much oil at the bottom of the pan and it still stuck..
Oh no, I'm so sorry! Try flour and butter next time: it always works for me! 👍
My whole cake fell apart this socks and does not work
I am sorry to hear that your cake fell apart. I have used this technique multiple times, so I am not quite sure what happened. Perhaps it was not cool enough? What type of cake was it?
Only Half of the cake fell out
Hi, Alex!
Sorry to hear that part of the cake was stuck to the pan. Perhaps the pan was not greased enough? How did you prepare the pans?
Even though it broke in two, I am sure it is still delicious. If you put a bit of frosting in the crack to act as "glue," and then frost the rest of the cake, nobody will realize what happened.
Thanks for commenting!🍰👍
I buttered and floured my fucking pan and the cake still stuck. I tried every single youtube video trick and google hack and its still stuck, with some crumbles coming out What do i do
Sorry to hear that you are having trouble? What kind of cake is it? I've noticed that cakes with a lot of mix-ins and a lot of moisture do not come out of the pan as nicely. Perhaps that is the issue?
No shit. Do people not accually know this ?
Thank you
You're welcome!👍
