  • What is up, my watch friends?!? So, check this out… take a look at this Casio G-Shock GBX100-2 G-LIDE that a friend loaned to me. I have a love/hate relationship with this watch. If I’m honest, there is really only one thing I love about it… and about a hundred things I hate. But what do you think of the large display, large case, and large strap? Let me know in the comments below!

The display on this watch is outstanding. The teal band is so unusual as to be acceptable in any situation. The sunrise, sunset, tide functions are fantastic if you live near the coast or walk a dog. The metal bezel gives a bit of heft and looks visually appealing. This watch oozes quality. As for time keeping, mine is spot on even without a Bluetooth connection after a month. That is an insane level of accuracy, although that may be just my particular watch. Even my radio controlled watches drift a few seconds a month without correction. But the display is better than practically any other digital watch on the market and worth the price for that alone. The exercise tracking functions are useful if you are into that sort of thing, but they rely more on having phone inter connectivity through the Casio app to get maximum benefit. That kind of defeats the object of a standalone device. So, yes it has flaws, but if you want something that is a step up from a basic plastic G-Shock, this is the watch to buy, especially if you can find a discounted deal.

There are six variants of this watch out there. The fully black with black IP bezel looks great. I happen to like my teal one though, need color in my gshocks.

The brushed metal bezel on the NS version is the single best metal bezel out of any G-shock watch.
It’s metal and looks beautiful, but it isn’t super glossy and reflective so doesn’t really show finger prints and dents/scratches.
The biggest dealbreaker for me, and the reason why I returned it, is because it doesn’t allow you to set/reset the seconds when manually setting the time.
It will just keep counting the seconds regardless of you manually changing the time, which means that it’s literally impossible to sync it up precisely with other watches.
Bluetooth capability is great, but it should never ever mean that functionality on the watch itself is reduced.
Got a DW-H5600 instead, which I’m very happy with even if it’s not as pretty looking and the buttons are much worse.

5610 with a positive MIP display would be perfect. But Multiband6 and solar is a must.

I wholeheartedly agree that the MIP display definitely trumps all the other cons that this watch has, specially if you can get one for under MSRP!

Yeah there is also a black with rose gold bezal variant. I have the GBD-200 in the eye watering green/yellow. But I really want the 5600 with that MIP display. So still waiting and hoping a tough solar MIP 5600/5610!

First video of yours I've seen and gotta say I enjoyed it. Very informative and loved the fumbling with the UI 😂
I got the GBD 200 and really enjoy the screen. I don't use any of the features on it, I just love the dial.

15:30 the best way is , turn it all up and down, and you can wear the watch more more easily and all the problems for strap will sorted out.

Yeah clear, you just buy watches and only want them to show the time.
Here's a watch. It tells the time.
So why do you buy so many watches with added features? One is enough for you.

  • @paulmcnamara16

I bought a GBD-200 despite wanting that cool tide/moon graph stuff because of that con with the timers and it has the same issue. 🤬
Has similar keeper design but at least the notches let you locate it nearer to the end of the strap

From a functionality standpoint, this watch can't hold a candle to the Garmin Instinct 2 Surf or even the Garmin Instinct Solar. Unless Casio really ups their game, they'd be better off focusing on more stylish watches or more rugged watches. I can't see them competing with Garmin anytime soon on watches for surfers, triathletes, runners, cyclists etc

I have the black and white GBX100 and agree with you on a lot of the somewhat useless features, but what REALLY bugs me is you CAN'T zero the seconds while setting the time (on the watch, not via Bluetooth) and the stopwatch is USELESS - not timing accurately to hundredths of a second, just seconds is just unacceptable on ANY digital watch.
Casio are the market leader with digital watches, but the mistakes they made with this is unbelievable.
Having said that, I still really like this model, though i prefer my GW-B5600-2ER MUCH more than this, its just a MUCH better all round watch.
