I purchased this watch. Love the look. It absolutely does look like a 90s watch or that 90s futurist look of what a watch may look like. The only thing I use the bluetooth for is making sure my time is synced but other than that I couldn't care less about the smart functions. Moon phase is a cool feature and the tide feature is whatever too. And as cool as this being solar would be I don't think its the end of the world to switch out the battery in a couple years.
And a bit shorter than 15mm in height for us 6.5-in. wrists, please. And do I have to say that the large paddles (instead of the small, steel thumbnail-pushers) are very overdo and greatly welcomed.
I had used one for a while, and was really satisfied with the MIP display, it’s more legible but at the same time slower. The current version (software version 3) does not allow you to adjust seconds on the watch settings, only through Bluetooth sync. And the interface is generally slow, instead of responding on button press like a G-Shock square, it responds on button bounce-up. If they are to fix these two on the next upgrade (or even a firmware update) it would be a lot better. BTW the bands are really comfortable except for the slight bumps that goes against my wrist, making a red dent every time I took it off. So it’s a bit too new to buy for the current version if you’d use it as an everyday watch, I would wait for their update in respond to their user feedbacks!
I live on an island and sail a few times of week in season and this watch is perfect for me. I don’t use any of the phone connectivity options as I don’t want to be connected…I just want an easy to read watch with some great water features.
To be honest is not too bad it's pretty nice at least they're moving with the times making it stylish but keeping that old school look about it. Nicely reviewed
When this first appeared I was expecting it to be 3 or 4hundred pounds so about 160 is quite refreshing. Definitely on my radar this one. Nice vid thanks for the heads up

I like the look. I just ordered two; the black and and the teal models. The brushed metal bezel is what attracted me to the watch in the first place; it compliments the display. Also the font is really easy to read at a glance. A very good video. Good job.
This is a curious watch with the most legible digital display available anywhere. The sun, moon, and tide data are great for not just surfers but anyone working outdoors. There is also a surprisingly capable set of training and step counting functions together with Bluetooth connectivity and an app. The buttons are easy to operate and the large backlight button on the front operates a light that is bright enough to act as an emergency light flashlight. The strap is very flexible but has a rather long tongue behind the keeper band. I solved the flappy tongue by adding an extra keeper, but it could be trimmed with sharp scissors or kept in place with a hair tie or rubber band. The lack of solar battery recharging is disappointing but the battery used is a common 2035 size which are available cheaply almost anywhere since they are used in car key fobs and many other low powered devices. Worth the money for any one of the functions on their own just because of the clarity of the display. The stainless steel bezel elevates the appearance of this watch so that it can be worn in more formal settings without screaming sports watch. The teal coloured model is particularly fetching in appearance and looks far better on the wrist than the black banded versions. The clarity of the display has to be seen to be believed. Visible from almost any angle and in any lighting conditions where you can pick up a reflection, it really is an at a glance digital watch.
Very detailed and thorough review, was wondering what the world time screen specifically looked like and sure enough you covered it. Also how the display compared to regular g-shock LCD displays. Thank you sir!
Beautiful video review and commentary. I am contemplating on this watch, just for its functionality for notification and highly clear display. I have the same Casioak as yours which is why I'm on the fence, because I feel like I do not need two g-shocks.
That’s the problem with Casio’s. Buy one and next thing you know you have 20. :) One good thing is many of these seem to be holding value or increasing value. So you can always sell it on if you decide you don’t need it later. (And possible make a profit )

Bought the GBD200 in blue. I LOVE the display. In certain lights the black of the LCD blends in with the black of the crystal or glass and it looks amazing. Hate the smart functions. They’re useless. Beautiful watch I love the way it looks and the display of the screen is amazing I’m very interested in buying this watch . But got a question does the Bluetooth on the watch and phone 📱 need to be paired up for the dst to change ? And will the watch automatically know when your in a different time zone and it will change ? And will it know my sun rise and moon 🌙 in my area as well ? Thanks
You can set the area without Bluetooth. For tide and moon etc. But it’s easier through phone app/Bluetooth. And as far as I know most regions are covered. DST can be set on auto or on /off on watch too. So Bluetooth is not essential for all of that. Mainly just for notifications and GPS activity u need phone/app connection.
Yep it does. I did chat about that and showed the screen. I’m not an expert of daily exercise trackers though. So I’m not sure if it’s a decent contender for that feature.
biscuitsalive ah yes so you did, just watched it back and decided to get one today as they’re back in stock for us in the UK. Was a decision between this and the yellow ga-2100. Thanks for such a detailed review.
Walking Outdoor hi, yes I did get the watch. The step counter seems to be a bit ambitious if I’m honest. Not sure if I’m doing something wrong but my Apple Watch seemed to be a more realistic amount, currently after 2 hours at work it’s at over 5000 steps and my iPhone is reading 3500. The activity tracker is pretty good tho, when it’s active it uses the gps on your phone and will show a map of your journey and stats for it too. Hope this answers your questions.

But maybe I missed the option somewhere. And I haven’t found a option to reverse date and month yet either. But I will double check that when I get a chance.
I like the new mip display. I'm waiting for different releases with feature sets more to my liking. Perhaps they'll release a winter sports version like the gls-5600.
Yep. Solar power needs to be a add for sure. I have doubts the battery will last with the Bluetooth and new screen etc. But for surfers this is a decent first option.
If you can get a reflection of any light off the screen, you can probably read the time without using the backlight. The backlight is bright enough to act as an emergency flashlight!
You can turn Bluetooth on and off. Battery life will increase if you are not using Bluetooth, but the battery is a cheap 2035 type used in key fobs and other low powered gadgets, so a dollar or less to replace the battery.

Cedric Brouste I guess I’m just used to having heart rate sensors on my watch just now. Not a dealbreaker for me, because I love this watch. I purchased it a few weeks ago from Macy’s and it’s sold out almost right after. I love this and it’s modern throwback to my first G-SHOCK when I was a kid in the 80s.
Presto i have a lot of sympathy with your ethics. i too would be happy to pay more if it was made in Japan for the same reasons as you. The high end casio's/G Shocks are made in Japan. this one will likely be knocked out in China as its a lower end watch. its not solar, gps or atomic. very mid range in other words
If i turn that feature on, yes. Although my notifications don't alert me to every comment. i think i have too many coming in, so it just ignores many of them... yours came up though :)
It's not bad, but overpriced for the features it has. For most people this is a fashion watch because they would never use the functions, I have a g-lide (a GBX-150 I got for $50)I actually used for surfing and windsurfing, but now that I moved to the midwest, I am selling it because it has no value for me because it lacks as a regular watch.
I don’t think you can call a highly functional clear screened 200m water resist, tough G shock only a fashion watch. For my money a fashion watch would be fancy but impractical, and certainly not a utility watch like this.
If the vid is a bit too long for you. Then there is a list of PROS and CONS at the end that maybe helpful.
I got it set to 1.75 speed because of my limited break time. I still get the details at this page though.

For that slow, I am gonna Assume it must use NVRAM I do remember the old NVRAM chips took forever to get rid of data.
Would this clear a metal detector?
Yes, provided that the detector was set to reject coin sized objects.
This needs to be solar and be in style of the square with easy press buttons
Yep. That’s probably their next upgrade
The buttons are very easy to press on this watch compared to most others,
I love this watch but notifications need to bebfixed
This watch looks really nice. Im boycotting China so I have sometime to wait till they pull manufacturing out of china.
@@insertnamehere5146 They don't make these in Thailand? The GWM5610 is from Thailand.
It is made in Thailand
Would solar charging work for a screen like this? I mean 2 year battery is just so... underwhelming for a g-shock.
I’m not sure. Let’s see what they bring out.
I think they can squash a solar cell in there somehow.
Do you get a beep when someone comments on RUclips 😂
If i turn that feature on, yes. Although my notifications don't alert me to every comment. i think i have too many coming in, so it just ignores many of them... yours came up though :)
That’s awesome! Hopefully they’ll restock soon
Its like transreflective display
It's not bad, but overpriced for the features it has. For most people this is a fashion watch because they would never use the functions, I have a g-lide (a GBX-150 I got for $50)I actually used for surfing and windsurfing, but now that I moved to the midwest, I am selling it because it has no value for me because it lacks as a regular watch.
I don’t think you can call a highly functional clear screened 200m water resist, tough G shock only a fashion watch.
For my money a fashion watch would be fancy but impractical, and certainly not a utility watch like this.
