As long as Portland exists, no one living outside of Multnomah County has a say in any elections.
A single city deciding the fate of the rest of the State is why we need to curb the power metropolitan areas have.
Every state needs to start the same kind of county-level electoral college that Nebraska and Maine have by creating electoral districts based on population, that way Portland doesn't decide elections.

It will only work temporarily. These people are trying to outrun entropy while still contributing to it. In fact, I'd go one step further and identify this attempt to buy time at the expense of others as the fundamental basis of capitalism. Every one of these schemes a temporary win for a later failure. Based on that logic, any of those 850,000 voters in those 7 counties who want to join Idaho and therefore support your move but who, sadly, rent their home or perhaps work on a farm but don't own the property are therefore not entitled to a vote at all! TELL IDAHO THEY LUCKY OREGON COUNTRY DONT WANT THEIR STUPID CRATERS BACK.
      Oregon Country
      From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Oregon was a distinctly American term for the region. The British used the term Columbia District instead.[2] The Oregon Country consisted of the land north of 42°N latitude, south of 54°40′N latitude, and west of the Rocky Mountains-with the eastern border generally running on or close to the Continental Divide-westwards to the Pacific Ocean. The area now forms part of the present day Canadian province of British Columbia, all of the U.S. states of Oregon, Washington, and Idaho, as well as parts of Montana and Wyoming. The British presence in the region was generally administered by the Hudson's Bay Company, whose Columbia Department comprised most of the Oregon Country and extended considerably north into New Caledonia and beyond 54°40′N, with operations reaching tributaries of the Yukon River.[3]

The real problem is the large cities controlling the entire states and ignoring or even abusing the rural communities. Adopting a state wide electoral college system is the real solution. In TX I imagine there are many people like the eastern Oregon folks that feel like they are not represented. The two party system is way outdated for a 350M people democracy. Either way you swing. The issue with the way it is now according to some people is that they are under represented. Portland is so big population wise compared to the rest of the state, that their political opinion dictates the opinion of the state. Similar to my state of Washington but at least Washington has a few biggish cities but the similar problem remains. If you vote Republican and you are in the east side of Oregon or Washington your vote is counteracted by the ginormaus Seattle or Portland. Which is also why the electoral college falls short in representing all voters.

This growing wave of Anti-Federalism in a country this large and geographically diverse is already causing problems. Abolishing the Electoral College would only worsen our situation. It’s hard to picture a future where abolishing the Electoral College doesn’t lead to massacres and maybe even outright politicide.
Just imagine how all of the gun-toting rural folk would feel if Donald Trump lost to Biden again in 2024 because the city folk voted for Biden and there was no Electoral College to act as a final decision. Every vote would be called into question. The rural folk would storm every city in the country and hold the cities hostage until they got their way.
Or worse, what if Biden died, Kamala took over, and then lost to Trump in 2024? Every vote would be called into question, there would be no Electoral College to make the final decision, and the city folk would be beyond pissed. The country folk, fearing that their votes would be tossed out, would form vigilante groups and protect the ballot areas. Widespread accusations of voter intimidation and election meddling would build up. The city folk would attack the vigilantes, fearing the vigilantes are aiding in rigging the election.
Getting rid of the Electoral College is a horrible idea. If you think the Electoral College is bad, the popular vote is simply worse. The Electoral College acts as a buffer. Getting rid of this buffer would end this country after only a few election cycles, assuming we get more than one.

My family has been in Oregon since the mid-1800s, Both Rural and Urban. I have lived and done well in both. But the better opportunities are found in urban environments, with the hope to make enough money to purchase a retirement in a rural setting. Without the Urban contributions to the rural communities both in State monies and Tourism, they would be in much worse conditions. If they just want more power in determining the States path, Vote in people who will work for the entire State and its total population. Tom McCall, Rep. was a Great Governor and a great example. Otherwise, take their own words and turn them into action. "Love it or Leave it." Oregon's borders will remain the same.
