Director Todd Phillips “Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck, who is indelibly portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham’s fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night…but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.
Three-time Oscar nominee Phoenix (“The Master,” “Walk the Line,” “Gladiator”) stars in the titular role alongside Oscar winner Robert De Niro (“Raging Bull,” “The Godfather: Part II”) as Franklin. Oscar nominee Phillips (“Borat,” “The Hangover” trilogy) directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Oscar-nominated writer Scott Silver (“The Fighter”), based on characters from DC. The film is produced by Phillips and Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper (“A Star Is Born,” “American Sniper”) under their Joint Effort banner, and Oscar nominee Emma Tillinger Koskoff (“The Wolf of Wall Street”). It is executive produced by Michael E. Uslan, Walter Hamada, Aaron L. Gilbert, Joseph Garner, Richard Baratta, and Bruce Berman.

I remember watching this movie alone in a Theater full of strangers and it just turned out to be one of the best moments of my life. A masterpiece through and through. I was so stunned.
I still watch this trailer in reminiscence of the burst of emotion I felt on my first watch.
I keep rewatching this masterpiece but I just can't feel that surge of emotion on my first watch. It feels almost like a drug edict trying more and more of the stuff to feel the same sensation of first trip but fails.
Todd Phillips says there's no green screen anywhere in this film. Everything's real, there are no aliens, quippy jokes, everything's grounded, terrifying, and beautiful.

Meh. Maybe if 4Chan'ers were voting. That's clearly who the movie was made for. I mean, it wasn't a bad movie at all, but it was just dull in the way the plot played out. Which is perfectly fine when you compare it to Marvel movies, but to say that it followed a different formula is incorrect. It was a Hero's Journey but with a bad guy instead of a good guy. Nothing was really surprising in the way it played out.

His laugh is full of pain.
Not just that that subway scene which maybe spoiler alert is after his mother's death and that's when he starts experiencing his disorder. His very own mother is the one that shaped his morals and was able to mentally stabilize him but the only thing is that quote" to smile and put on a happy face... to bring joy to the world" is so broad and leads to confusion. Hes confused on exactly how to feel, should he continue laughing because that's what his mother advised him to do in times of depression, or cry like every other being. And at that point the laugh replaces his other expressions.
