- For Unreported World, Krishnan Guru-Murthy follows one desperate Lebanese couple planning to raid a bank in order to get back their savings.
Across Lebanon over a million people have been locked out of their bank accounts. The so-called Switzerland of the Middle East catastrophically crashed in 2019 over a banking crisis which has since been likened to a Ponzi scheme.
Now those Lebanese people previously reliant on foreign currency savings accounts can only withdraw the equivalent of a few hundred pounds a month.
For those desperate enough, there is no alternative but to raid their bank, and take their money by force.

Thank you for this. My heart goes out to these poor people. To anyone saying or thinking “Thank goodness i live in the USA, or UK” be careful; we are not immune from this happening. People in the West need to open their eyes. We are slowly moving in the same direction. Going cashless, we can be cutoff at the whim of bankers, gov from our own money.

When Central Banks force Central Bank Digital Currency on your region there will be no money for you to physically take possession of and the banks will continue with corrupt practices and the public will have no recourse in getting back money that they spent their lives working for that these institutions are playing games with. "Sorry the Central Bank says you can only get 20% of your money back" 🤣 you won't be getting anything back next time lol

1:45 That's not true. Zimbabwe had the worst financial crisis anywhere in the world since the 19th century. Venezuela is a close second. Both had their national currency depreciated so much that it was almost worth nothing.

Before when you have no bank savings it's scary but now having bank savings was more scary...
Krishnan Guru-Murthy has long been one of my favourite journalists.
The country has no manufacturing industry, it makes nothing and they have no resources like oil or gas. It imports medicines, gas, oil, machinery. These imports needs to be paid in USD but when their currency lost 99% of it's value than importing goods is prohibitive and the cycle is repeated.

I was surprised to hear that their were banks in Lebanon. I thought only the top 1 percent of the population could afford a savings account.

sad reality . i was there back 2019 and witnessed when dollar start to raise against the Lebanese lira,, I told one friend this will get worse and will never stop . and said to me things will get better , today 1$ is equal to 100k LL which is a total loss for people's savings . Lebanon needs to fix with in .

They said dollar but meant euro. That's the point: the banks are abjectly corrupt, they've spent all the money ever deposited into those banks. No bank will ever accept a bank check from another bank and cannot take a loan from anywhere.
This is what happens when politicians are able to run the banking systems. This can all happen in the US, UK and the EU banks, in the blink of an eye.
Greg, are you aware that there is now a triple top on the god chart which could lead to a collapse in the gold price per ounce ? Another important consideration is a massive dollar shortage in Europe and emerging economies which could lead to a large relative increase in the dollar index !! Both of these elements should lead to a lower gold price in the short run !!

If owned, managed, bought, or invested in, by any Lebanese banker, DO A BANK RUN AND GET THEM BANKRUPT IN THE WEST!
