This guy deserves more subscribers! He puts so much effort into his videos and that really shows in the quality! He also really knows his stuff, and explains it so well! This channel is 10/10
As a photoshop veteran I've watched hundreds if not thousands of hours of tutorials plus many live events. This is without a doubt one of the best. Thank you, sir. The alternative way to create luminosity masks is nothing less than brilliant & your explanation is clear & concise.
There are two people in this world of photography, and i mean it, that i would love to meet in person. One is you. I wish you could sit here in our place with a smile on your face to understand what a joy you bring to us with your every video. Respect. Thank you for everything you do .
Honestly, you have a better pronunciation than most other youtuber even with a slight accent, better way of teaching, patient, good tonality and very usefull tips and trick.... this is by far one of the best channel on youtube for photoshop !!!! Thanks a lot for doing what you do and helping me (and others) perfecting my art every day and makes money doing what I love !
Now I finally understand luminosity masking and a great way to create them. Thanks a bunch for this great tutorial (and all your other great tutorials). This is my go-to channel for learning photo processing.
Unmesh has gotta be one of the best tutorialists on the planet!! he makes sense of complex proceedures and always flips my creativity switch back on !! thanks man for another awesome tut
Another great tutorial. I did learn a trick to control how much is hidden in the mask. Select the mask and control the density in properties to control how much is hidden. You also hit Shift+Control/Command and click in the mask to select black section. Change the background color to 25% grey. Hit Control+Backspace (Command+Delete) to make the black 25% grey. You can now hit Control + I (Command+I) to invert your selection and change the color of the background color to another shade of grey and repeat the process. Now you have a dual grey mask. I like it because I can dim the shade of certain objects in my composite. I'm quite sure you knew this. Just thought I'd post it. Thanks again for another outstanding tutorial.
I have searched numerous videos to explain luminosity masks. You have explained it the most accurate and simplest way. Well done. And thank you so much for your simple way of explaining this.
One of the best photoshop tutorials I've ever seen. I've recently been wanting to learn how to do luminosity masks and all the other videos were youtubers trying to get you to buy their luminosity panels. So frustrating because I want to know how to do them myself. You really laid out so much info here in a very digestible and learnable way. Well done.
This tutorial is simply brilliant. The use of Color Range to control your selection luminosity is so much simpler than the traditional Luminosity methods. You really should take out a patent on this method.
There are 2 photography channels I keep coming back to and this is one of them. The other has a much more philosophical bent so most of my photoshop learning comes from here. The more I learn the more I appreciate how good Unmesh is both technically and at serving that knowledge up to us. Many many thanks Unmesh!!
There is no other better person on the internet, who can teach editing with photography, You also teach the core basics of photography with your tutorials..You are great Sir..
I've tried really hard to understand channels and alpha channels and it seemed like a lot of work for something I didn't get noo matter how hard I tried. This tutorial is awesome. I've tried it out and am very pleased with how effective it is. Many thanks - I'm going to keep watching your tutorials
I agree, I'd love to see more critique videos. The learning from these is fantastic. Beautiful images submitted as you say. I love how humble you are, never taking away from others talents. You obviously have a great eye though to critique so well. Thank you for this learning. Any of your teachings are good, you explain so well.
wow i’ve misclicked this video. not even had the intention to watch this kind of content. but end up watching the whole video. lol. i’ve learned something today. he’s a great teacher. crystal clear explanation. keep up the good work!
It was just now I understand your luminosity mask application. Been doing other methods and camera raw alone for quite sometime now, this one is an eye opener for mer. Not to mention this was uploaded since 2017. Thank you Unmesh. been learning PS CC thru your tutorials. I just need to continuously play those video of yours when I need them on an image I wanted to edit. Kudos to your teachings!
It is cool, really, thanks Umesh! two things you might consider: it‘s a video - I can rewind a thousand times - no need to repeat everything important. it could be really shorter - the essence of this video xan easily be shown in under 3 minutes.
Thanks for all the great tuts. After a little test, comparing mask of this method and "traditional" method, I find in this method there're many black or white areas in the mask, instead of all kinds of gray. This is the difference. I recommend: in mask properties, increase feather and immensely lower density. Or obvious edge will occur often when adjusting.
Another awesome tutorial Unmesh. You usually teach about something I already know how to do but then you go to the next level and show how to improve upon it. I love your teaching method of really breaking stuff down and showing us not just how something works but why it works. Thanks. I wish you could do a video on selecting a tree with leaves on it that is so difficult that using multiple methods is necessary to make a good clean selection. And then, knowing that no selection is perfect show us how to get rid of the fringing and what ever else is wrong in order to get the best possible selection. This is the one thing in Photoshop that I just can't seem to do very well. I believe if someone can select trees than they'll be able to make the most difficult selections of hair.
I watch your tutorials in bed so as to give me ideas of what I can mess with in Photoshop the following day. The problem is I get so engrossed that I can't wait until the next day and sometimes get up to work on the lesson till the early hours of the morning 👍. Thanks so much for taking my PS skills to another level. When I'm back to work I'm defiantly going to contribute 😉
Glad I’m not the only one. Excellent videos Unmesh, very impressed with all of them. Excellent knowledge, excellent teacher. And those often don’t happen together in my experience! I see from looking at an Adobe site that you are a ‘Trusted Partner’. Well deserved.
The breadth of possibilities within this concept are overwhelming. I have scores of landscapes from this past summer and am incessantly editing them. Thanks for your help!
You're doing great job :) teaching people in a very logical way! The only thing I would add - when I do luminosity masks, I change the blending mode to "luminosity" to affect only light, and take care of colors separately later :).
Your enthusiasm really makes it easy to watch your videos. I learn so much by watching them and it's painless because you can see you are having fun explaining all the details and nuances so eloquently. Great channel!
Absolutely ripper. I learned photoshop like Topsy, so its was just out with the basic layer mask and brush away vivid and wild as best we could. Sometimes the colour selections, again Topsy. I had never used luminosity masks. By the way starting from scratch over colour, brightness, and masking is so good. Making defined and understood terms caters for all of us at any level. Very pleasing.
Unmesh, you are the greatest!!! What a wonderful way of making Luminosity Masks!!! I do not know why others want to be so complicated. I am also enrolled in your wonderful Photoshop Easy course. THANK YOU!!
Great tutorial. This method is NOT YET very well known and many people are STILL selling/using Actions for Luminosity Masks (based on the "Channels" tab) everywhere in the internet. The reason for it is simple: The "Color Range" selection applied to brightness levels didn't have either the "Fuzziness" slider, nor the "Range" slider usable UNTIL Photoshop CC. In Photoshop CS6, for example, the "Color Range" selection applied to brightness levels has a *fixed* "Fuzziness" and a *fixed* "Range", not being possible to refine the selection and play with it "visually" as you show in your tutorial. With Photoshop CC 2015 it is possible, and at least since then, it does not make sense any more to use the classic method (based on the "Channels" tab). I am not sure about when (in which Photoshop CC version) did Adobe include the usable "Fuzziness" and "Range" sliders in the "Color Range" selection applied to brightness levels. I know that in Photoshop CS6 they were not usable, and with Photoshop CC 2015 they are. Conclusion: IMHO, if you have a modern Photoshop, stick to this new method, It's much more visual and intuitive than using "Channels".
Ι love this guy. He have his way to explain it perfect so you can understand it. Now i understand the color range and luminocity masks together). Thank you
I was always using channels or apply image for this but will now use color range. I'd like to offer a tip to you and your users. If you select the mask after using color range or channels to create it. You can select the mask and then go to image, adjustments and say, "curves," to fine tune the mask itself. Neat trick!!
This was amazing Unmesh! I never had thought about this method. I can get a grasp on how these masks work. This beats the old method of doing them. You should do a series of tutorials on how to understand this methodology in relation to the Luminosity Panels like Lumienza, TK8 etc. Panels like those really take this to another level. By tying this demonstration to those panels, folks who have invested in them can really get a grasp of the concept. Thanks again. Truly great stuff you've shown here.
GENIUS! Thank you!! And BTW, I love when you said "quantize your selections" being the limitation of the old way. Such a perfect description of the issue, in one word--instant "aha!"
16:29 I ❤ you bro... U r so caring for us for even small thing that can be neglected, u repeat 4 us... So lovely😊... You teach us a lot for free... U can put some ads in your video in the middle of the video, we ll not get bored, its just my opinion.. 🌹🌹🌹
I love the way you explained all stuff within this video. Overall, and as you are a foreigner to english, your language is very but very clear! I am a foreigner too, and I truly appreciate that detail! :) Thank you . Regards from Uruguay.
Unmesh, excellent. Don't forget, there is at least one other way of making 16 bit luminosity masks in Photoshop. Using selections limits you to 8 bit luminosoty masks. Using Image>Calculations, you can make 16 bit luminosity masks
Hey, man, that is much more better than an HDR generated image from 3 shots with different exposure. Grest. Your lessons sound like music to me, thanks!
Thank you so much till today i was confused with what the heck this luminosity masks are and how to use it effectively. you made it man. wish you all the best young gun. cheers
The default selection of channel is 50%. However you can by adding more selections and lower by 25% by holding SHIFT COMMAND. vise versa, if you want less selection and add 25% more value by holding SHIFT COMMAND OPTION.
I was just about to buy a Luminosity Masking Panel from another website when I stumbled across your tutorial. Well, when I say say stumbled, I have been viewing your tutorials for about 6 months and trying my best to follow along. I would say that I am ending the beginning phase of learning Photoshop and beginning the next stage (whatever that is.) This tutorial was incredibly helpful if a little fast paced because you seem to instinctively understand what to do in any situation. Next stage is to download the sample image and work my way through the tutorial again step by step. Is there anyone in the world that understand EVERYTHING that this programme can do?
Thank you. Have been looking forward so long for you to teach about LM. Traditional method is really difficult .. your method using curve & color range make it easy. Hope for more tutorial on landscape photo processing for a change!
You always find great informations to share. your motivation about photography is shinning on the screen...No one can"t be bored by watching you. Great job dude !!!
Very good job Sir. Personally I'm using TK V5 panel and I modify my luminosity masks on camera raw until I get exactly what I want but the technique you explained is perfect for regular projects. Your channel should have more subscribers. I will talk about you to my contacts even if... they are French and don't speak that well English. Again, very good job!
Great tutorial and you make me think of using this method for sky replacement and you know what, this is probably the best and fastest way to do it. Thank you
This guy deserves more subscribers! He puts so much effort into his videos and that really shows in the quality! He also really knows his stuff, and explains it so well! This channel is 10/10
more like 100/10. He definitely deserves millions of subscribers
They are the best photoshop tutorials by far.
This is why I send him money every month by being a member. Not getting any perks but he deserves financial support.
He is amazing I agree. His tutorials are fantastic!
thank you its really amazing how you explain !
As a photoshop veteran I've watched hundreds if not thousands of hours of tutorials plus many live events. This is without a doubt one of the best. Thank you, sir. The alternative way to create luminosity masks is nothing less than brilliant & your explanation is clear & concise.
Can't believe these are free! Better than a lot of tutorials that are for sale.

I'm crying. Not only does he have the best tutorials but he updates his tutorials when he finds a better way of doing it. Do we even deserve him?
Now I finally understand luminosity masking and a great way to create them. Thanks a bunch for this great tutorial (and all your other great tutorials). This is my go-to channel for learning photo processing.

You're very articulate Unmesh, and then I remember that English is your second language. Mind blown.
I have searched numerous videos to explain luminosity masks. You have explained it the most accurate and simplest way. Well done. And thank you so much for your simple way of explaining this.
Love how he explains everything. This helps so much more than "just do this or just do that".

This is by far the best 32 minutes of my day. I hope you can post more videos on luminosity masking. Enthusiasm + knowledge = great tutorial.
The best luminosity mask tutorial ever. Beat anything I have viewed so far... Thumbs up!

This is hands down the BEST method of creating those luminosity masks! Thanks man!

'Maths cannot counter art' - I like your style!
This is one of the most thorough and easy-to-understand PS tutorials that I've seen in a while! Very nice!
I love all the info you provided! I had to stop and backup several times just to try to absorb everything! You are just an amazing teacher!
The breadth of possibilities within this concept are overwhelming. I have scores of landscapes from this past summer and am incessantly editing them. Thanks for your help!
“Only you know as a human…as an artist…which brightness level to choose. Maths cannot counter art. Both have to go hand in hand.” Well said.
You're doing great job :) teaching people in a very logical way! The only thing I would add - when I do luminosity masks, I change the blending mode to "luminosity" to affect only light, and take care of colors separately later :).
You are the best and my only teacher in Photoshop. Watching your video and then at the end just say wow.
Oh man that color range tool is a time saver!
I wish, my phiscs teacher taught us like this, with the very basics.....😃
You're the best teacher for Photoshop 😍
You have a gift on explaining stuff in a very simple way. I agree with @Nandish, this guy deserves a million subscriber.
This guy just explained exactly what I was looking for.
the fact that you go into in-depth detail about each aspect sets you apart (& above) the rest.
your awesomeness knows no bounds :D
Teaching advanced stuff like this to amateurs like us... Bless you buddy!!

A creative genius and an inspiring tutor
Such a creative innovative approach which is the order of the day with PiXimperfect. This guy plays Photoshop like a violin.
Great tutorial.

This video just took my work up 10 levels!!! Thank you!!
Great tutorial, I understand luminosity masking better now. But I may have to go back and look at it again. SO much information to absorb!
Another excellent tutorial which avoids creating the rigid percentage selections of other tools.
Ι love this guy. He have his way to explain it perfect so you can understand it. Now i understand the color range and luminocity masks together). Thank you
is he a god or something ?? i mean i professional Photoshop artist and this something new for me man you are genius

The default selection of channel is 50%. However you can by adding more selections and lower by 25% by holding SHIFT COMMAND. vise versa, if you want less selection and add 25% more value by holding SHIFT COMMAND OPTION.
Add 25% is a (+) sign and reduce 25% is a (x) sign
God of Photoshop (period)🙏🙏
Your depth of knowledge is truly admirable. I like the way you explain complicated topics.

The best Channel about Photoshop
Best tutorials on you tube
What’s up man! I’m from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and I want you to know I watch all of your videos! You’ve been ridiculously helpful man.
Thank you
WOW - need to watch this about 100 times
Your backdrop is really better by far. Thanks for the knowledge, Sir.
This is incredibly useful....you're a Photoshop rock star.....
Thank you for taking the time to describe luminosity masking. This was very helpful to me.
