      I was there, too. I remember that they started playing very late at night, possibly after midnight, because - if my memory serves me - it had rained in the evening. Later they drove to a hotel near the highway and myself and fellow Italian journalists Mario Luzi (RIP) and Maurizio Favot interviewed him. It must have been 3am by then. That interview (in Italian) is still available online. It was the same night as Live Aid, so that may have contributed to the delay in the start of the show. Great memories.

    I never saw stevie live. But , when i was 15 i was living in vanouver , it was 86.
    Stevie played the commadore ballroom. You could hear him outside for a four block radius. He played louder than anyone ever did there. And i clearly remember him playing voodoo chile, and being awe struck and inspired, i was already a fan , but that day is etched in my mind

    I hear people complaining about the sound quality and other things on this video, but its the blues man. Half the time the blues greats weren't in tune, never could afford new strings until they broke them, and they tuned by ear, never heard of intonation. Amps and equipment were shit back in the day but yet their music was raw and powerful, bad amps, sound mixes and all, I know what you mean though but that's why I love the blues...

      Isn't that the truth. The first time I saw him play that live, I could not believe that is how that was played and like you said now about 33 years later, I still can not make it sound like that. What a force of Nature.

      I feel you man, I remember becoming enamored by stevie's playing when I was a teenager. But that Scuttle Buttin' intro lick is fucking fast.
      The connection between his motor cortex and his hands/and a few muscles on the right arm must've been ridiculously efficient. (As well as the muscle memory stored)
      I've seen video of him so drunk he's almost gonna fall off the stool he was sitting on, but he can still play

    • @danmcdonald8736
      @danmcdonald8736 2 года назад +1

      I've been trying to play scuttle buttin and the intro to couldnt stand the weather for years. The phrasing on cstw is really unnatural, at least for me. Like you said whenever I think I have either down I hear srv play it and realize I sound like one of those kids trying to play Gilmour licks but hasn't learned to bend properly. The notes are there, but it just sounds off.

      He left the stage every 30 mins and would return, looking slightly more out of it than before. The last time he came out, my friend and I looked at each other, worried he wasnt going to be able to finish the show. He picked up his guitar and to this day I've never seen anyone play like that.

He is doing more strumming than fanatic articulate fret work and is slurring. First time I have seen a disconnect with the crowd and Stevie. Glad I saw this video. Eric Clapton said it best - "“The worst thing for me was that Stevie Ray had been sober for three years and was at his peak. When he played that night, he had all of us standing mere with our jaws dropped. I mean, Robert Cray and Jimmie Vaughan and Buddy Guy were just watching in awe. There was no one better than him on this planet. Really unbelievable,”

    Documento prezioso e fantastico!
