He's not playing like he's the GOAT. I was at this show. Very cool and nostalgic, seeing them back together. I also saw Sammy with VH at least 4 times. The main thing was that Eddie smile and charisma: He could have been playing a cardboard box with fishing line for strings. A truly kind king of a man. Very missed by millions of us
Once in a milliniaum! I'm glad i got to know you! I saw Eddie and the band in 1978 in Amsterdam...I couldn't believe what he was doing and I can't still believe it...nice touch that Eddie & me were born in the same city...but somehow his guitar genes turned out a little different than mine, hahaha!
Those of us alive when Eruption hit the airwaves will never forget the impact it had on us, Eddie changed guitar playing forever. Not to say he invented hammer on's & pull off's, he said himself, but he brought it to the forefront, and his legacy lives on. RIP Eddie, we wish we still had you with us. ❤️
Eruption wasn't always played on FM as the lead in to Running with the Devil. You had to get the album to hear all the tracks. Im in Nashville and was with my big brother at that Sabbath riot at the Municipal Auditorium in 78. On my channel I took some videos last year of the building if you wanna see it. Sabbath's gear got wrecked and fireworks everywhere and smoke. We went back the next Sunday when they doubled back around to makeup the date. We got two VH shows. They became famous here and at that moment. Sabbath was actually over with and really was supporting VH for Warner. Tony wasnt happy with Eddie but they did stay friends I hear.
@@daviddigital6887 I was in STL listening to KSHE, and it was always played before "You Really Got Me." I can't remember which got played first Runnin' or YRGM, but I was in high school at the time, just starting to play guitar myself, so of course it had an impact. I wasn't aware of the riot at the time, I'll check out your channel to see the aftermath. Thanks for the heads up.
So amazing. I can’t explain to people how amazing and shocking it was hear eruption when it came out. Guitar players were literally floored, I mean jaw dropped. He literally and figuratively changed guitar playing and Rock n Roll forever.
First time I heard it . My sister was gone that day and I noticed an album in her collection ." Oh .. this looks cool !" .. let me see what this sounds like ? .. WTFFFFFFFFF.. Is that a guitar ? Is that human ? . To me it sounded like stars in the universe. Like the guitar player had his fingers in a light socket . .After a wide eyed listen . Saw this oversized wooden spoon on the wall and played my first air guitar . A few weeks later begged dad " I want to play electric guitar !" So he took me to a store and he picked out a guitar an amp and a Mel Bay 2000 guitar chord book . By that evening I mastered " Twinkle Twinkle Little Star " .. IN 79 . My father said I'd give it up in a week .. I never did . I was jamming last night !! . In my 40 years of playing , I have broken my left hand twice , spent months in hand therapy , Later plowed a skilsaw through the same hand and had to reattach a finger , 2 years ago on my right hand , My thumb started turning black and bleeding , Turned out to be malignant melanoma. They amputated my thumb and after multiple scans . It had spread and become Stage 4 Cancer in the brain . But I still play !! and I fooled my father .. I never gave up . Granted I never had Eddies talent , I had my own and every time I plug in .. I always think that Eddie is there cheering me on !! .
Such a genuine guy! I truly miss him, on many different levels. He played with such wit and such heart. The guitar solos and his riffs are of Legend. The greatest rock composer ever, in my opinion! Van Halen forever!
I wish that I would have appreciated every solo that he performed each time that I saw him live. Gone but never forgotten. The world misses you King Edward.
It is really hard to believe that he is gone at such a young age . . . Hopefully, we will get to see his talent in the new world (Revelation 21:3, 4) 😊
As a kid they lived about a block away from my cousins house . Around 1974 or 76 . We knew of the family through my uncle's law practice when there dad was a judge in Pasadena CALIFORNIA. We were 12 or 13 years old . We were hooked we would ride are skateboard s and listen to them jam most every night. My younger girl cousin was best friends with David Lee Roth's little sister. That was how we met them. It's been great seeing them go so far . But dam has it been hard to see them split up . And then samy ( good thing) but not the same . Thinking of Eddie ass dead is hard . It makes you think of your own mortality ( hart transplant recently adds to that . Hate to see them gone :-(
In my humble opinion, Eddie was the best, most innovative guitar player…….ever! A true virtuoso! I’m sure there aren’t many guitar players that would disagree with me. Rest in peace EVH.
@@CriminalOne Discovered in Greenwich Village 09/21/66 Hendrix would be a star with in 72 hrs after touching dwn @ Heathrow in London, The Buzz was out! From McCartney/Lennon ,Jagger/Richards among other A lister's would eagerly have a chance to see this phenomenon, The late great Brian Jones would sum it up! All of UK's guitarist are weeping & God is dead! Meaning Clapton, Jimi is the most electrifying & best Guitarist that I've ever heard! He definitely Changed the Sound of Music forever! A light that burns twice as bright, burns half as long! 3 yrs later he was gone! A exclusive member of the 27yr old club! We can only imagine what could of been? Jimi was never satisfied & turned down an invitation to join ELP & was going to do a album w/ Miles Davis & even sent a telegram to McCartney to do a album before he passed, Today Hendrix Legacy & tone is unmistakable! 1st two notes & you know it's him & For the listener, full of Soul & meaning! Today I'll agree younger guitarist are more technically accomplished but they think playing Well is playing fast or shredding! It's important to know! Some of the stuff is brilliant However there's not as much dynamics & tempo changes & as much variety going on from a couple of generations ago that made up the elements of the soup back then! I get fatigued quick & I can take Volume only so long before I am fatigued! Typically the 1st minute they grab you! Then there's gotta be a release or a change, A few of the artist that you mentioned fall in that category where you get fatigued or burned out, Cream was your 1st super group! They were so Loud & those Marshall amps & would start a new Generation followed by Hendrix, Zep, Deep Purple & B. Sabbath, This would be the foundation & Landscape as we see it today! Jimi played the guitar if though he was a Lion Tamer searching & working for that certain sound! It was 1st time I ever heard a guitar sound like a Horse or a Woman moaning! He was left handed so he had too play a right handed guitar upside down imagine that! Everything was opposite & even played with his teeth. Thanks for your perspective & analogy Anthony well said!
I saw him in an interview and he said something concerning his innovative prowess. He said he couldn't afford all the pedals and effects so he had to learn how to do them on the guitar by hand sans electronic gadgetry. I guess that would explain how he gets such incredible sounds out of his instrument! Necessity is the mother of invention! Fantastic player!!
More great music came out of that guitar in 10 minutes than come out of most people in their lifetimes. It's easy to overlook, but one of the things that made Eddie so special was that he never got sick of playing the same songs he had been playing for decades, like so many people get tired of doing. It's in this whole video, but particularly pay attention to the end, starting at about 8:45. You can't fake that. He f'n loved playing and he knew that he was making people happy. He is the GoaT and he always will be.

Yes, Mean Streets, cycled about 10 times with tears in my eyes. Rest In Peace and torment or inspire followers. Been a zillion already.
Eddie, Randy and Stevie Ray Vaughn were the shit in the 80's! Eddie created so many licks, Randy took classical music to a heavy metal level and Stevie just blew the doors off with his Texas Blues Hendrix inspired style. Those cats ruled the world!
Best smile in the history of rock guitar. I love how he gives the audience a thumbs-up between sequences, like they just did something great. (Or is that a signal to somebody directing the show, who just said "Yes, keep going"?)

Of course I have everything he's ever done and seen him a few times but never this specific video. It was like the last gasp of energy he had right around this time. He looked happy. Me too! He continues to bless us even after he's gone! The soundtrack of Our Lives, and life's been good!
This is Eddie you remember at his best sure hard to think he is no longer with us.Rip Eddie
I got to meet him 👌 AWSOME
Was there !! What a awesome night
GOAT
I was at this show. Very cool and nostalgic, seeing them back together. I also saw Sammy with VH at least 4 times. The main thing was that Eddie smile and charisma: He could have been playing a cardboard box with fishing line for strings. A truly kind king of a man. Very missed by millions of us
The GOAT 🐐. I Miss You Everyday. Look how fast He still was at his age.Always Copied never ever duplicated. RIP Eddie
Amazing talent. All that wisdom developed over the years....Just wow.
Once in a milliniaum! I'm glad i got to know you! And ,im very happy when I introduced my Mom to you ,you were calling her Mom ,and hugging her and that made her whole night, and we were just leaving from seeing Tom Jones ,so ,if you topped Tom Jones, that's saying something ! I lost my Mom in 2020 ,and a few months late ,you were gone! And a year ago next week my best friend since i was 7 died ,so ,this just SUCKS! But ,you were a giant influence on me and most guitarist ,and you were a real nice guy. Everybody has their stuff that happens ain life, but you definitely left your mark! EVH!
so glad I was here at this show, surly missed him
Eddie is a virtuoso guitar coach, she never gets bored with him!😁
RIP Maestro. Best not to be sad he's gone, but happy for the time that he was with us.
Miss ya Ed , like millions and millions of us , you will always be with us all .🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Got to see VH in mid 90’s and wish I would’ve see him a lot more!
Edward Van Halen - The King of Ten Fingers and Six Strings
Kick ass I was at this show Eddie was the king!
Just like the person that replied here below me! I am a 55 year old guy full of tears watching this! A whole era of my life is disappearing! I used to play these albums over and over, and was excited and couldn't wait to get the next one coming out! And all of us who picked up a guitar as a teen tried to play his licks! Look at him in this video! He is so content and happy performing his special craft to make his fans happy! I am in tears because we lost such a great artist who will always be labeled one of the greatest guitar Gods, as well as lost a piece of my growing up. Thanks to whoever posted this!
A true Brother a master of all things tapping playing tinkering a righteous guitar aficionado. We miss you
I saw Eddie and the band in 1978 in Amsterdam...I couldn't believe what he was doing and I can't still believe it...nice touch that Eddie & me were born in the same city...but somehow his guitar genes turned out a little different than mine, hahaha!
That dude just loved playing guitar & it shows.
RIP, EVH...
I won tickets to this concert...what an amazing night. Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band was the opening act.
I always think that Eddie is there cheering me on !! .
@@IVORY123100 Glad to hear your playing. Good luck and God bless.
Such a genuine guy! I truly miss him, on many different levels.
He played with such wit and such heart. The guitar solos and his riffs are of Legend.
The greatest rock composer ever, in my opinion!
Van Halen forever!
Thank you for sharing this! Long Live the King!
I wish that I would have appreciated every solo that he performed each time that I saw him live. Gone but never forgotten. The world misses you King Edward.
It is really hard to believe that he is gone at such a young age . . .
Hopefully, we will get to see his talent in the new world (Revelation 21:3, 4)
😊
65 isn't that young. He had a great life.
Seen VanHalen and VanHager several times around Sacramento and Oakland. Greatest rock show then ! --Frank Taormina and Greg Murrison and friends.
Damn ! Eddie was so very good . Miss his playing!🤘🎸🤠
Hate to see them gone :-(
Simply the best at what he did. There are guitar players and then there was Edward......
In my humble opinion, Eddie was the best, most innovative guitar player…….ever! A true virtuoso! I’m sure there aren’t many guitar players that would disagree with me.
Rest in peace EVH.
The Brits were tremendous! Hendrix redefined the guitar & took to the next level, EVH revolutionized the guitar were no man had ever gone before
he is who made me retake my picking. he made such beautiful noises as well as music
@@CriminalOne I could not agree more. Hendrix wrote incredible music, bit his playing.... mehhh.
Jimi was never satisfied & turned down an invitation to join ELP & was going to do a album w/ Miles Davis & even sent a telegram to McCartney to do a album before he passed,
Today Hendrix Legacy & tone is unmistakable! Then there's gotta be a release or a change, A few of the artist that you mentioned fall in that category where you get fatigued or burned out,
Cream was your 1st super group!
Saw him play in person more than once amazing player and seem to be a great person too
Eddie is LEGEND.... Absouletly Guitar King. R. I. P. Eddie Van Hallen
A special kind of focused genius.
My best friend I never met.
Miss you King!
My thoughts exactly! I always thought I'd be able to meet him and jam with him someday. His legacy lives on in my heart and always will
Can't believe he is gone. Thank God for this and every other video he still lives on for us to watch.
A man and his guitar.. no words!!!!
The Most Amazing Right Hand Fast Picking Technique On Planet Earth.
God damn. I did not realize how much Eddie retained his chops this far into his life. Good lord.
Definitely the best guitarist of our generation, if not EVER!!! My hubby & I argue this point quite often. MISS EVH!!!
Who does your hubby think is the best?
Cool video.
Love to see great musicians still playing at that age...
2 only that will still be inspiring in another 200 years, King Edward and Jimmy H. True genius that changed guitar playing forever.
Absolutely stunning.
Randy is so much better shaking my head.
You're amazing Eddie. RIP
I'm almost the same age as EVH was (65 in May) but while i was a fan, Seeing VH for 1984, I never tried to cop his style (why am i not surprised ;)
One of my all time fave bits here at 1:50.
Eddie was my hero growing up
Saw their great show!
Dang I miss him he was the greatest ever far as I'm concerned.
Best smile in the history of rock guitar. I love how he gives the audience a thumbs-up between sequences, like they just did something great. (Or is that a signal to somebody directing the show, who just said "Yes, keep going"?)
wow60 and awesome/ this man takes guitar 🎸 to 100 leaves above every one else/ RIP EDDIE 🙏
Eddie I still can't believe your gone, I miss you so very very much, every time I see you playing your guitar, I want to cry because I know that it's only a recording, Rock on and Rest Easy Guitar God Eddie, there will never be another like you 💯😪💗
It's been a dystopian nightmare.
Of course I have everything he's ever done and seen him a few times but never this specific video. It was like the last gasp of energy he had right around this time. He looked happy. He was absolutely the coolest dude to ever live. He was only human but was definitely blessed with some special powers and unfortunately there was the cost of some illness that comes with Genius.
The tone!
