I hate that I’ve looked at over 5 reviews for the ReMarkable so far and none of them mentioned the subscription service in their comparisons. I feel like this is so important and I would have not known a subscription was involved if some disgruntled users didn’t mention their experiences in previous comments.
oh my god. thank you for this comment. this is a make-or-break with ANY device, imo, and for all the other features i've been waffling on - if they make me pay a subscription then i want nothing to do with the remarkable. i would've been so upset if i'd bought one and found this out the hard way!
Yes, thank you as well. Subscriptions are a deal breaker for me.
Isn’t the subscription only required to use the proprietary cloud service? I think you use the device fully without a subscription
@@MrCshowbreadit's your device. You should be able to upload your files to wherever you want for free
You can, but the remarkable 2 has only 8 gb of internal storage. You're pretty much forced to use the subscription.
Such an underrated channel.
Thanks buddy. Appreciate you watching and commenting.
I’m considering switching from reMarketable but I need proper magnetic pen attachment. Picking up and replacing the pen should be instant and satisfying.
How do you like the switch?
Crikey, pleased I watched this video. The 'magnet problem' with the R2 is ludicrously poor. Hard to believe that a 'premium' product at a truly premium price has such a weakness - I won't even consider the R2 now.
What problem?
Thank you for your interesting comparison of the two devices. For me as a Remarkable user, the question is not whether I prefer the A6X2 to the Remarkable 2. The latter is now almost three and a half years old. The decision will have to be between the A5X2 and the Remarkable 3, won't it? I still love my ReMarkable.
Yeah, I don't disagree there. Although I think remarkable 3 won't be along until autumn at the very earliest.
Interesting comparison. What I miss is the comparison between the data exchange between my computer (mac OS) and the note taking device. I work best on my computer but would love to have a device that allows me to write and then later to exchange / synch the data between various devices. I know Remarkable does that well but also it comes with costs (monthly fees) and that is a real downer.
Yeah, very true. Supernote you can use Google drive, Dropbox or one drive. Or no their own free cloud service. 🙂
BUT I have an A5x they have now stopped supplying some of the accessories, such as the case for the A5x with Lamy pen. So thats worth thinking about. Supporting the product after you cease it is critical. I have no case I can use for it now.
The only thing keeping me away from SN is honestly the size. I like to do my notetaking outdoors from time to time and it really is quite scary with the fragile thing that is the rM2. But I really do not want anything smaller because I know very damn well I'd get annoyed when writing down a longer piece of text or doing anything really on a bigger PDF. I wish they just finished the A5X2 soon, but I also want them to take their time to perfect it. In the mean time, I'll just have to live with being very careful I guess.
My Tab S10 Ultra does handwriting to text on the fly. I couldn't imagine having to manually convert it or switch to another view.
It is a good comparison. Looking at your video, it seems they are identical in writing experience, and the choice should be the space to write. It is a tough choice which one to pick up.
Is it possible to have a Bluetooth onnection with one of these E ink tablet ?
I’ve become obsessed with paper tablets after discovering the remarkable 2. I feel like I made the right choice in device but I personally would like to own them all 😂 glad I stumbled upon this side by side comparison! Great video
Hehe, you and me both. Lots more comparisons on my channel. Have an explore,
I love the remarkable because of the metal design
Yeah, it's still a very attractive device. One thing that Supernote were keen to do was to stay away from metal as it is cold to the touch. But as I said this is the most subjective comparison!
Hi! What are you thoughts on this device as a planner/agenda alternative? I would like something for work that can take notes with customers while replacing my paper agenda. I also see the new A5X2 is coming out soon. Thank you
Still cannot decide which one to get… I want something with a screen as big as A4.
Currently the Tab X is the only real choice. There's the fujitsu, but it is pretty limited, Voja at My Deep Guide has a review and there are some good points. I think that there will probably be two more A4 devices coming this year. A refresh from Boox and a Supernote A4 X2.
This size is perfect for my needs. I have always preferred to use smaller notepads.
I have gone to a titanium nib for my RM2. I have not noticed any damage occur from its use, its a personal choice whether or not to try it. I do want to try the drawing app in Supernote, but I am waiting for a larger version most likely A5x2 crystal. A4 seems like it would be more for a permanent location like at your desk rather than a portable on the go device.
Yep, I think the A5X2 will be a great choice for many people!
It'll be interesting to see if they do the same crystal and white versions of it they have other tricks up their sleeves. 🙂
I keep my RM2 out of the keyboard case particularly due to the weight and leave the keyboard at my desk and normally use the original case for portability.
Yeah, it's a bit too heavy with the keyboard case. 🙂
There is no way I would use something that small. I've settled in with a Remarkable two after trying the ipad 10th generation, Samsung tablet, and then Microsoft surface pro, and the Amazon scribe.
Yeah, I agree, it's smaller than I would want for my full time planner, but as an indication of where the supernote is going it's a very strong entry!
That’s why I’m going for the a5x2, basically same as this but 10.3in
Sold my remarkable for this smaller option, honestly it's great and I find myself lugging it around to the gym and work much easier for use.
@@romario5080 $300 tech at gym is crazy. Paper A6 journals are like $1.25 at dollar tree and no risk of a plate falling and breaking it
It comes down to preferences. I purposely went with the Nomad due to the smaller size.
The rM2 magnetism distortion drives me nuts. It was the primary reason I started looking for something else, even though I enjoyed the rM2 otherwise. I now have both the SN Nomad Crystal and the rM2. I’m still in the 100-day window for the rM2, and while I’m not sure yet if I’m going to send it back, the Nomad is my primary now and I don’t know if there’s any space in my workflows for the reMarkable 2.
Yeah, I have tested that before, but I hadn't remembered it being that bad! I don't know if as it's been in the keyboard case for some time I'm getting me interference? I don't know, but it's not really great is it! Especially for anyone intending to draw on it!
I just bought the RM last week and am thinking about returning it because of the distortion. I think it makes my handwriting look like I have hand tremors.
The Remarkable 2 is over THREE YEARS OLD. Let that sink in. No hardware updates, processor outdated, no backlight, no access to the Google store, no Kindle access, struggles and feels sluggish. There is nothing from the company is they are even bothering to update their product. Meanwhile, the other companies are coming out with new products every 4-6 months.
Yeah, there's a balance to be struck somewhere there isn't there!
I don't subscribe to having new hardware every few months w/abandoned software support either. The supernote team appears to have struck a decent balance and as far as I know the RM team has gotten their act together too. One thing that put me off from getting an onyx was the constant HW churn.
I like the supernote interface and feature set is way better. Love how it can expand storage and even replace battery easy. However it is not available retail in my area for sale and Remarkable is. Making the Remarkable a more realistic purchase for me to get.The Supernote not even using Amazon as a retail outlet to move into other regions world wide. I prefer the size of the A6x2 over that of Remarkable 2 but I think I do not have much choice getting the Supernote at all.
Need artist sized sketch pad of super nova. I’m such a snob about latency and paper feel
Agreed, the bigger supernote will be boss for sketching!
I just got the remakeable 2 and im really upset with the accuracy of the pen to screen. The remakrable 2's accuracy gets all wonky over time. So if you place a dot down, it can sometimes be spot on but it usually lands off to the side somewhere. It's really invigorating for me.
those page swipes on the SN looked painfully slow. I was considering it but now not so sure.
Interesting, I can tell you it's not something that I'm bothered by in daily use. But I guess we'd all have different priorities and sticking points with these things!
I know there were a few taps in which you didn't get a response in the SN too. Was this a fluke or common behavior?@@KitBetts-Masters
i can buy i can afford two, i just bought kindle scribe 64, what else you recomned, for reading or writing... ? thank u!
@@Productivity-jc1sc lots to choose from! Either a smaller colour one, or a larger device for more productivity situations. Many people are looking forward to the Boox Note Max coming soon and there's the Tab mini C to look out. Also the scribe is a great reader, but reMarkabke and supernote are better note taking platforms!
Where can you buy the super note?
Supernote’s got my vote! I like BOOX Tab X and NoteAir3C for reading and apps like teams, word, email. BOOX tablets are awesome, but they don’t match what writing on the A6X2 is like. It’s almost like realtime CGI, right there in your pencil and paper. I like the ceramic nibs for writing text and fine line drawing, but also use the Lamy with the nibs that are more rounded for larger and faster lines. You get a different feel between these two styluses and I like both, but for different reasons and uses. Regarding the remarkable’s magnet issue, I haven’t used one and didn’t realize the remarkable 2 had so much magnet effect. BOOX does a great job, although some device/case combinations can cause problems. The Supernote has dealt with the magnet issue better than the others at lest for the A6X2.
Correct opinions. 🙂
I got a remarkable a while ago and I love it. My grandfather got interested and tried a super note. He couldn’t figure it out. He asked for my help and then I couldn’t figure it out. The UI is completely unintuitive and frustrating.
@kitbetts-masters can you get your hand on the new TCL's NxtPaper 3.0 14” and review that one ? It’s getting a lot of attention from CES 2024
G’day again,
I just remembered to ask this. You have noted how the Bluetooth connection between the Nomad and a keyboard is less than adequate. How good is the keyboard when connected to the Nomad via a cable ?
Good question, I haven't tried that yet. Bug my hunch is that it is the screen response rather than the slight latency in the Bluetooth connection! So I imagine it would be the same. Something that can be sorted though as other tablets have far better performance with typing. They'll need to if they ever bring a keyboard case for those pogo pins!
I have used the Nomad and with multiple Bluetooth keyboards and it works fine. So far I've tried apple's bluetooth keyboard, Qwerkywriter S, Logitech k480, and multiple generic keyboard cases originally designed for iPads. They've all worked without connection issus. The "lag" isn't bad and is comparable to other e-ink devices like the Freewrite Traveler.
I've written several book chapters and edits on the SuperNote, and use its built-in sync feature to Dropbox the files to my desktop. The SuperNote text-editing software is still a little finicky. I recommend using ONLY the text editor to edit only .txt files. Its .doc (Word) editor is too buggy to be trusted.
I don't have the remarkable but I do have a Boox Tab Ultra with keyboard. The screen response is slower on the Nomad, but the writing feel with a pen is SOOOO much better on the Nomad. I can upload a video showing the typing lag (not bad) of the Nomad if you are interested.
How do you like the new Feelwrite 2 screen? Is it worth the upgrade from Feelwrite 1?
Love it. But no, I like the feelwrite 1 just as much. I would say, it is not worth buying for an older device.
G’day Kit, I tried my son’s Nomad but didn’t like the writing experience. So I will probably stick to my Rhodia and Tomoe River pads with a fountain pen. I am a bit confused as to why Ratta have put a nice drawing app on a platform they aim at people whose focus is on writing. If they want a drawing app, they should add a colour screen. I think they could improve writing functionality by adding spellchecking, dictionaries, thesauri, grammar checking, etc to the super note. I am looking forward to AI tech being further used to improve writing tools.
Cheers from down under.
Wowser, yeah that's an interesting idea. If they had a really good editing suite for you to work from the recognised document towards a finished piece of text that would be very cool.
I don't quite understand your logic, but I DO appreciate your ideas! A notebook is a wonderful place to draw and sketch art (especially black and white charcoal, pencil, and pen illustrations). There is a whole genre of paper sketchbooks just for this purpose ... so SuperNote put an app to allow this on their digital notebook. On the other hand, I've never had a paper notebook with built in dictionaries, grammar, etc.. It seems that if you need spellchecking, then you are mentally in "editing" mode. Surely a device with a keyboard would make more sense in that context? Hopefully, SuperNote will come out with their own keyboard folio for their new A5 device and continue to improve their text editing features ... and hopefully they ALSO implement your ideas as well, as they are good ideas! 😀
Also, I think that the current color e-ink screens are naturally darker than the black and white. Since these devices don't have a frontlight, then I think they HAVE to stick with black and white to maintain viewability. For now.
I currently have the Scribe, which I love, but the Supernote looks awesome, for sure! If they come up with a larger screen and even color, that would become even more attractive.
Yeah, larger ones are on the way, A5X2 should be along in March/April.
@@KitBetts-Masters Excellent! 👍👍
My only problem with the supernote A6X2 is it's size. Does it come with a bigger size? And is it better or worse compared to the supernote A5X?
they are releasing a5x2 around march/april which will be a bigger version of this pretty much. a5 and a6 refer to notebook sizes. a6 is 7.8 and a5 is around 10 similar to the remarkable
Now I want to know when the A5X2 is coming out before I go buying the Supernote. Any idea when this bigger brother is coming out?
Should be March-April I reckon. :-)
It might come down to size for me. The Note looks like a baby compared to the Remarkable.
I think you have unconscious bias against RM2. You continually compare it to new and upgraded models of other brands, but a 2 year old device always seems to stack up overall… but it can’t go on the internet or it can’t draw lines cause of magnets or its recognition workflow is not optimal - however it always is the 80/20 best choice. I’ve used Supernote and kindle and I always return to my IPad 12.9 with a remarkable companion. IMO everything else is a nearly wannabe. Ps love your videos keep them coming… you every so nearly swayed me to Boox 😂
Cheers! I hope I'm always making sure to discuss which devices are most suitable for which type of person and use case. Sure, I make no secret that remarkable is one of the lower devices in my own personal preference, but I am aware that they are popular for good reason, and that's why they are a device I still feature regularly. Thanks so much for watching and commenting! 🙂
Most people ask how devices compare to the ReMarkable 2 or to ipads, etc. These videos are helpful to people who are stuck between the 2-3 devices - such as the latest Supernote and RM2, the latest Boox to IPad, the Fujitsu Quaderno to RM2, the Kindle Scribe to the RM2, the latest Meebook to Boox or Ipad, etc.
If you have those other devices, don't bother with the Boox. I have the Boox Tab Ultra with keyboard ... while neat, its writing 'feel' pales compared to my SuperNote Nomad (and presumably the Remarkable 2) and its features pale compared to an iPad.
I love supernote the company so much more, unfortunate that the device is so small
Supernote usability looks vastly superior.....
No comparison! Supernote just too small for serious paper replacement.
Yeah, it's a pocket book replacement this one. I can't wait for A4X2!
such an ugly back.
