Thanks a lot for your video!! I checked trunk and glove box fuses and they were all good. I changed the battery in the controller and it didn't work. and I also tried two or three tricks and absolutely nothing happened. but i did this... one of my two controllers on my 2008 x5 stopped working almost 6 months ago. What I did yesterday was watch a video on how to open the controller (which is sealed) and replace the battery (which is soldered). then i watched a video on how to sync the remote to the truck, which is super easy, all i had to do was go, insert the key in the door to unlock the truck, get in, put the key in the switch, turn on, leave about 15 seconds on, and turn off, take out the key and check if it works or not. and it worked for me, immediately I took the control out of the switch and pressed the lock unlock buttons it worked. Thank God I already have my second control working for only 30 dollars with everything, battery and welder kit. I hope and whoever has the same problem will find my comment helpful.
I'm glad that about ur comment. A lot of people are interested and there is definitely more reasons and solutions then what we mention in the vid. Nice comment big thanks from the community!!
Hi there, I am currently having the same issue with my 2009 E92. Soldered battery now replaced but still no remote locking/unlocking. When you say 'put the key in the switch, turn on'... do you mean just the ignition (so the car is on, but engine isn't started), or by 'turn on' do you mean actually start the engine? Thanks
@@adamheath266did you get it figured out having the same issue replaced battery and soldered but not working quite great still. Did you start the car for 15 seconds or just place it in the ignition please lmk thank you 🙏
@ yea I fixed it up, it was both of my lock actuator, as soon as I fixed one it made a lock noise clicking noise to my other lock so I figured out that both of my locks needed lock actuator and it fixed my key problem and unlock all the locks and lock now
My fob won’t unlock the car doors, but will lock the car, start the car and unlock the boot. It’s it worth trying these tips or could it be the actual unlock button being the problem?
I'm glad we could help and hopefully the antenna will solve your issue. Let us know how it goes and if its not the antenna we can try to help you with further advice and provide you with more information as well.
If you have 2 keys, and 1 key isn't performing remote locking/unlocking, but the other key does, without issue... this rules out fuses and diversity antenna, right? Otherwise it'd be the same for both keys?
That would be correct, late to commenting but it could be key battery or key coding, might be worth putting the not working key into the slot to try charge
Thanks. My car was telling me to replace my key’s battery. I was able to easily replace my battery. Now it works to unlock the door, but when I go to start it…it says the remote is not detected. I’ve held the remote to the steering column to start the car. It works, but when I shut off the engine it says remote not detected again. Do you know what I should do? Thanks
I have checked all 3 options, nothing, my remote not working, but engine start. And no spare key. Time to go bmw garage ( but scary price) or change module , not expensive in ebay, any recommendation? Please
Thanks for the video man. Both my keys failed at the same time. I'm suspecting it might be batteries because the car has been sitting for months in the garage, only goes out for a drive in the weekend and always with the same key. Sadly it's a fob without the removable cover and I have no soldering skills.
Thanks for the nice comment. So if you change the model with another one that has the exactly the same part number it will be litteraly plug and play but if the part number is different then you will have to code the module for your car.
Do you need to activate the key when you get the new key fob from BMW? i have the same problem even aftering getting a new key fob. The door cannot be locked or unlocked. Not a clear video on how to do so.
Regardless where you are buying the fob from unless you ordered a blank one that you have to adapt to the car yourself. The person responsible for programing the key to the ecu should also insure that all functions of the fob are working. Unfortunately as far as I'm aware you need a special scan tool otherwise if you want to program the doors to work.
Additionally you can try this. I'm not sure if it will work but it's free to try. Remove the BMW key fob from the ignition. Holding down the unlock button, press the lock button (BMW logo) three times, then release the unlock button. If you have than one key fob to program, repeat step 3 within 30 seconds of the original key programming.
yessss love it. Im using my manual key for like 2 months now(((((((( im not an expert but my key it was working on and off all the time and then it stoped, im thinking the diversity Antena might not working? some times it would work for one unlock and then it would not work again. drives me crazy brother!!!!!! 2009 X5 any ideas on that? is still the same location for the Antena
Thank you for your nice comment :) I would suggest definitely try the battery first as one of my key fobs was exactly the same like yours ( it will work on and off) if not then the antenna of the x5 is located exactly the same place where the 1 series antenna is. Hopefully that's helpful but u if you have any questions just pm me.
When i press open on the key, it unlocks the car as it should but it Also unlocks/open the trunk… when the key is in the ignition it’s not possible to open the trunk. The trunk locks it self when I start it. Will do your steps this weekend. You got any tips?

I took the fob into the dealership to have the problem diagnosed, both times they just replaced the battery and it fixed the problem briefly. I received the fob back last week and its stopped working again so I don't think it's the battery, any ideas?!
Sorry I've just seen your comment now. Maybe it's a poor connection between the antenna and the fob it's good to diagnose it with a special device that can measure the hrz between the fob and the antenna. Let us know if you have sorted it already as this is going to help more people! Thanks
First of all I'm sorry for the late reply. If it doesn't start at all I would suggest test you car battery with voltmeter and see what's the output. If its lower than 8 volts even if you jump start it it still wouldn't start. If you battery is okay on the other hand I'm afraid that most likely you key lost its memory and can't recognise the car so it will need reprogramming.
Any suggestions: Whenever I press the car unlock button at the top of the fob (BMW 118d/ 60 reg), 99% of the time, the boot opens as well WHEN I DON'T WANT IT TO OPEN. How do I stop that from happening? Thanks in advance.
Hello. Ive never had such a problem with it but I would assume is something to do with the case it self. I would recommend buy a cheap empty fob case and just transfer everything from ur case to the new one, hopefully it will sort it out as sometimes rubbish or liquid gets inside of the fob through the buttons. Or just open urs and carefully give it a clean. This is 5ye first 2 cheapest options.

If you replace the battery with recommended Panasonic VL2020 then do note they may come not fully charged. Panasonic has datasheets for these batteries and charging voltage is 3.4v with current up to 1.5ma. You kinda need relatively precise power supply to do that.. To find out if a fuse is blown you have to first take it out from the fuse box and check if the little metal line is cracked or split inside the fuse.
