I have a 2020 Jetta SEL Premium. I've got no complaints about it ... except one ... all black interior. My mileage is great. I took a trip to Dayton OH last Aug and I got great mileage. My best on a full tank was 576 miles before I had to fill up. And I was running at 75 to 80 on the Interstate. Daily driver ... my work commute is 20 miles round trip. I can go just about three weeks before I have to fill up with miles gotten between 400 to 450. I've been keeping track of each time I buy fuel and log the odometer, miles driven, amount of fuel bought as well as price paid. I've always done that. Old school yes. Jetta's are great.
You should take other cars in this class for a test drive. They all drive nicely these days. Some better than others, but none bad that I've experienced.
@@vybzz0353 oh that’s okay I don’t ever mind a random question. And the truth is, I know all about the Tiguan and a few others like CC. But it’s been since 2019 since I drove a new Jetta at a dealer. I used to know it all but can’t keep up and since I didn’t get another one, and got the Tiguan, I can’t accurately answer that. I would just refer you to the VW site where you can read about the different trims. Now with that said, I will say this, you can expect a more premium stereo in the premium, better and larger wheels. Genuine leather, LED headlights may be on both now but again I can’t confirm on that, and you gain heated back seats, ventilated seats, I believe both have the larger infotainment display as I had an SEL as a loner car. Both have moonroof I am almost certain SEL does (oversized), and that’s about all I’m sure of. Hope that helps. I have had 3 Jettas, loved them all for space, ride, efficiency, quietness, decent tech for my needs and the money spent. The Jetta is a solid value. I do miss the independent rear suspension that I had back on my first Jetta from 2011. The previous generation. You can’t go wrong for the money imo; I do miss the short lived 6 year / 72,000 mile warranty from VW that I received on my 2019. Now it’s 4/50. Let me know if you want anything else.
@@2004cyrus Thank you for the very informational and kind response. I really like the Jetta and with the input you just put in am seriously considering buying one. :)
@@vybzz0353 absolutely. It’s cool; but now for the fun part. I’m curious why you are considering Jetta. Have you checked out Japanese? My #1 pick is Mazda! Bulletproof reliability the last 5 years or so! They’ve been beating Lexus on JD Powers for a couple years. I believe the Mazda 3 is made in Mexico now along with VW. I currently lease a CX5 for my significant other; I’ve had Mazdas in my family handed down to me and they’ve been excellent, driver engagement for the class is great. Gas mileage good. But they aren’t as roomy in their back seats if that matters to you. I’d like to know your thoughts: I sold cars. And I sold Mazda! And some others like Infiniti and Audi and Porsche for several years.
@@2004cyrus the main reason that I’m considering the Jetta is the appearance. There is something about the look that i really like even if it is a little basic looking. Although i am still looking at other things like Mazda’s, Toyota’s, Hyundai’s, etc. None of them appeal to me as much as the Jetta has though. Do you think that they are so much better that it is worth looking past the style?
I like that they improved the tail-lights, looks more Audi like. I'd try to spruce the appearance up into a more sporty style by adding a sports kit & sportier wheels.
Great video, I live in Ontario Canada and bought the base Trendline, Great car I chose this over the Civic because of Hondas oil dilution problem Although the base motor in the Civic here does not have a turbo I just lost faith in Honda, as a Company, that is still churning them out , knowing full well they are junk That's what got me looking at alternatives, and I hate the ugly Corolla with seats equivalent to the comfort of a park bench Or the boxer money pit motor and CVT in the Subaru Impreza No need for AWD anyway with dedicated snow tires, I've owned both Company's build what people want, no matter how idiotic it is Like paying a premium for no sidewall 20" and bigger wheels Then getting in the car where you cant see the wheels , and put up with 20" heavy wheels that makes the car slower, longer braking distance, ride rough, vibration bent, cracked broken wheels and sidewalls destroyed and finally eat gas for nothing Just because they want to them to see for a couple seconds while walking to the car These are bought for other people to see when you are driving down the road, Lol I look for tall sidewalls for ride, the base Trendline has 16" wheels I've owned Chey, Ford , Dodge Hyundai Kia cars, and they are junk Mazda 3 is cramped This is a lot nicer, although not a big fan of old technology torsion beam suspension Although it rides better than the civic And this handles the same as the civic, I have 2 scared to death salesmen to back up this statement. Lol The torsion beam suspension is stronger , less parts to break and will make room for a bigger trunk This is a daily driver, not a sports car And it worked great on my 1988 Audi 5000 Turbo, I bought new in 1988, never a handling or ride issue And I drove it hard I also prefer the 8 speed automatic transmission to the CVT in the Civic Also the cheap Kumho Solus TA31 Grand Touting tires are the braking problem, not the car Simply get the dealer to swap tires for the Standard Touring Continental True Contact Tour for exceptional braking, better ride, (can't tell the difference handling) and 800 tread wear vs Kumho Solus TA31 500 tread wear Both are H rated and both have traction, A temperature A Day and night difference, knock about 20 feet off of wet braking, easy
I have always liked the Jetta in general. Dislikes? Automatic engine stop/start system, Electric Parking Brake, Smaller Trunk, Price Increase. Am driving a 2020 Passat. It gets 41-43 mpg on the highway and 32-33 in and around town.
I have a couple gripes that kept me from buying a Jetta last year. #1 They don't offer cloth seats in anything but the base (I hate "pleather" - its hot and sticky in the summer). #2 The standard four speaker stereo sucks. Terrible sound and no satellite capability. The only way to get a better trim that doesn't have vinyl seats is with the SEL (it has leather ventilated) and the only way to get a somewhat decent stereo is with the SEL (Beats). I didn't feel like spending $30,000 on a Jetta in 2021 so that was the end of that.
I have a base 2017 Golf and it pretty much blows this car out of the water. Having said that the Jetta is probably one of the better options for a small sedan. What I can’t stand is the acres of glossy plastic - especially black glossy plastic on the exterior looking at you Taos - that’s easy to scratch with most vehicles today. The Jetta while still bad is probably one of the least offenders.
One thing I've always liked about VW is their clean, handsome styling (some may call it boring), and in upper trims the interiors look a bit premium. This new Jetta is straying from that. The styling has gotten kind of homely looking. It's not terrible, but it's just now as well proportioned and elegant as past Jettas. The interior is just a cheap, nasty-looking mess compared to the competition. Acres of cheap looking black plastic. I'm not a fan of the Darth Vadar helmet-inspired interior at all. The tech also looks extremely dated. That touch screen display looks like something out of a 15yr old luxury car. VW is not where it's at these days.
It’s an economy car. I wouldn’t expect anything other than plastic(s) to be used on the interior and the Jetta isn’t the only car to feature this. Like you, I’ve also loved the sleek, minimalistic styling if VWs but I wouldn’t say it’s wrong for them to make changes here and there. Every manufacturer does this at some point or another. Some will love it, some will hate it. Can’t please everyone.
I have the 2021 base model /manual. The seats are comfy the ride is compliant, it's not slow and gets great MPG. Its also isn't selling over MSRP like the other popular choices. From a bang for buck standpoint it is quite good.

Just bought a new 2022 SE Jetta and I love it so much more than the 2020 mustang I traded it in for!
Love this car. I was a HUGE chevy guy, but with prices on the rise this was definitely in my budget. Can't beat what you get for 27k
Even less at base and sport trim at a dealer that doesn't mark up MSRP.

Just because they want to them to see for a couple seconds while walking to the car
These are bought for other people to see when you are driving down the road, Lol
I look for tall sidewalls for ride, the base Trendline has 16" wheels

I also prefer the 8 speed automatic transmission to the CVT in the Civic
Also the cheap Kumho Solus TA31 Grand Touting tires are the braking problem, not the car
Simply get the dealer to swap tires for the Standard Touring Continental True Contact Tour for exceptional braking, better ride, (can't tell the difference handling) and 800 tread wear vs Kumho Solus TA31 500 tread wear
