Why are all the Americans saying unreliable?? Is it just an American thing or do you not maintain cars? Volkswagen is extremely reliable here in Europe, I've had a good few and never had an issue?
you've just answered your own question. it's both. VAG doesn't care about northern US. Volkswagen of America market sales are the smallest percentage factor, so we have crap dealers, and our Volkswagens are assembled in Mexico, or USA minus the Golf, and Arteon. also Americans do not service their cars. i've personally never had a Volkswagen leave me stranded, but Japanese makes take the cake with above average reliability where we live.
I purchased the '19 because of your review. Rear bumper spreading the fake exhaust vents looks better than the two separate vents but them choosing to leave hard plastic near the driver right leg and passenger left is unfortunate.
I own this 2022 Jetta SE with 9000 on odometer. ride is 10, mileage is 11...a great commuter for my 100 mile commute. the only thing that is annoying is the throttle is so jumpy. the turbo kicks in hard when i just touch the accelerator. I'm going in for my 1st oil change this week and will mention. otherwise she's awesome. don't hesitate to purchase!!
9,000 miles and first oil change? That will ruin the engine very quickly. If you do them about every 7,000 miles you'll be doing much less damage to your engine.
The wheels are identical to my 2020 SEL I got last year. So glad they didn't go with the wheels on the other review you did on the preview of the 2022. I see a few differences. I really like my Jetta and it feels a little more expensive than I paid for it. So far I have 6k miles and it has been OK. It had been sitting on the lot for over a year and I got a killer deal. Hope it holds up.
I remember that 90s model that you could get with the V6. always thought those were so nice back then. Also i have bad eyes and i change out or cover the LED lights in my vehicles. So not having LED is a plus.
Curious to hear reactions/experiences with the Lane Keep Assist. VW had changed this a while back to engage every time the car starts rather than remember that it was turned off. I find it to be quite intrusive on the driving experience and to have a number of instances where it could be dangerous (especially in areas of road construction or unusual roads). I would much prefer that it remain off when turned of and not re-engage when the car was started. I would rather see the IQ drive as a separate, non-forced option. That way for those who want it they can get it and for those who do not desire it, they can get the car without it.
2021 GLI Autobahn here, when turning off Lane Assist it does not turn back on regardless of ignition cycling. It won't turn on until I deliberately go back in and turn it on myself. First VW with the feature, but I have heard what you're referring to.

In 2019 this car came out with amber signals in the rear. Then they were gone since the 2020 MY, for shame VW. They looked really good when it had them.
Hopefully the hit the dealers at the end of this month. Because as of now there is a bunch of 21’s getting dumped with a discount (rare during this time).
I saw this new model pull into a parking lot and immediately ran to see this review. Honestly, I’ll pass. I’m in my 2nd Jetta (2012 & 2019 Model S) and I don’t see myself going for a third. Jettas are great starter cars if you have kids and want them to be safe. However, as I get older they are too low for me. Everyone else is manufacturing ether cars with LED lights and it shines right through my Jetta so I want something higher. I’m currently on a cross country road trip and the MPG has been great. I drive mainly in ECO, down shifting to “Sport” if I need to race someone. I don’t get my car maintained as much as I should and he’s still been a trooper. So my original point was also that not much has changed on the car from the 2019 revamp to this one to make me even consider changing cars. I’m not a fan of the smaller front end. I the the bigger grill and headlights give the Jetta a “meaner” look. Especially with my car being black with dark black tints. Great review though. I’m not sure if you personally own a Jetta but when you got to the rear of the car and said you had to squint to see the differences I laughed out loud. I listed off the differences immediately. They’re subtle but there. If you don’t own a Jetta, not seeing it is understandable.
Had a 2013 VW jetta that thing lasted me a while then got a 2019 VW Jetta although the car is somewhat basic it is a solid car I haven’t had any issues with it and I commute for work a good hour drive everyday
I don't understand why some manufacturers still skip trajectories on the reverse camera, is it that hard or costly to implement along? Idk. There are others as well who do this. But when there is trajectory it helps in better assist while reversing.

If possible, please review the Sport trim when you do your full review on this car. I'm hoping looks wise, VW kind of does a Sport/GLI thing with this car, similar to what Kia does with the Forte GT line/GT.
Looks interesting. Looking to see the new sport trim. The regular non CVT transmission and available manual are things that set it apart from other cars in its class. Also, the torque on this base engine. Mazda 3 still seems like the best in class, but this Jetta does make an interesting case.
I’d pick the Mazda3 over the Jetta, but I’d take either. But I’d get the GLI over the 3 turbo simply because the transmission in the Mazda is slow and old
why would you expect paddles on the wheel for a 1.5 liter engine? makes no sense. you have to get away from the hooligan shit sometimes. not everything is about speed.
It's nice that VW has kept their only sedan. I say only because the Passat is gone after this year or next. The Arteon was really a flop here sadly because it was really a nice looking car. Good to see the increased the HP on the Jetta. VW has a tendency to under power their cars except for the GTI/R. But 29K and that's without the dealer mark up....I meant to say price gouging. Unfortunately most people should say see ya when dealers do that.
@@mikeyg751 The dealer I go to has/will have a 2022 GTI Autobahn on its way to them. The listing on the website say "Call for Price". They also has a 2022 GTI SE and the price is listed on the site. Yet both cars have not arrived at the dealer.
@@kirk1015 if the price is higher than MSRP call VW corporate and report it. And dealers do have a right to make you call for price and can sell them prior to embargo lift and delivery. A lot of the time we will make a call for price to make it less attractive to people due to rarity or shortages. Our company only requires $500 to buy a pre embargo lift. We typically always keep one of each model and trim in stock for sitting inventory and sale the ones we know are coming on our weekly delivery. After getting rear ended, I rented this car. I usually drive a 2016 charger. With that said, I didn’t expect to be impressed by this car. However, it is sneaky fast. The turbo makes switching gears smooth, and the sunroof is pretty cool. Unfortunately, the car is so small it feels like it’s going to fly away if you have a lead foot. @@NoZenith I don’t disagree, but that’s a sad thing in my eyes. It will mean that I’m officially out of this segment. I may as well look toward the sub-compact SUV segment like the Mazda CX-30 at this point. It has a smaller footprint, better interior space, and while it may not be super sporty, it at least doesn’t pretend to be.
Search for Volkswagen Virtus, that is almost a smaller version of the Jetta that VW sells in Brazil. It rides on the same MQB platform with 1.0 turbo and 1.4 turbo engines paired with an Aisin 6 speed auto.
Pretty good and spacious vehicle.
@@LGwash1 Just searched it…looks like an ideal sized car, but they don’t sell in my country. And I doubt they will cause subcompact SUVs seem to be the trend here.
That's why I want Honda to bring the Fit and related City sedan back to the US market.
I'm driving a rental jetta right now, while my Passat TDI gets bodywork done. I love this Jetta. So quiet and comfortable. Been doing light city driving and the fuel needle has barely moved in the 4 days since I've got it.
Traded in my 2019 GTI and I bought a 2019 Jetta for cost savings. I traded that POS in less than a month. Every single part of the cabin rattled. A pillar, b pillar, entire dash, infotainment system, rear cargo cover, everything rattled. Was very disappointed. Now I drive a ‘22 kia k5. Happy to drive something that is not made in Mexico
Had the same issue with my jetta but I fixed most of the noises so its all good now
@@JeanClaud3 man I tried, had no luck 😂
Crazy. Mine doesn't rattle at all. Had it since new. 29k now.

The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta SEL is an awesome car :)
dose your engine burn oil?? your engine oil level drop?
Volkswagen really needs to rid those spiral wheels indefinitely. i will swap out these sel wheels and put the wheels borrowed from the new sport model(formerly the R line).
i drove a 2021 jetta from charlotte to atlanta and averaged 43mpg going 70-90mph 90mph when i could and down to 70 during traffic average speed of 76. was very impressed
10,000 mostly highway miles in 2 months with my 2019 Jetta has returned an average of 37 mpg.
Excited for the 1.5t (EA211 EVO)
for anyone looking for budget economy car, or entering the tuning world this is a great choice !
Having 11hp more then previous gen is always nice.
Interior and exterior looks way nicer then MOST of their competitors. Well done VW.
Sofyan , you are doing amazing !! We love you here in Canada , I want to buy a new 2022 Jetta sport , how different is it ?
@@corybureau4124 very strange
I LOVE my 23! Averages over 42 miles to the gallon so far! You can't go wrong with this car!
I purchased the '19 because of your review. Rear bumper spreading the fake exhaust vents looks better than the two separate vents but them choosing to leave hard plastic near the driver right leg and passenger left is unfortunate.
Just started working at a Volkswagen dealer selling these Jettas. Can’t wait to get the new 2022!
Do you know when it will be released?
@@DFSC6335 no idea, but in our pipeline we are showing none up until mid January
I really enjoy your videos. They are very informative and I appreciate the high quality camera you use. Thank you for your helpful information!
I get 40 mpg depending on traffic btu average 38-39.5 at speed limits on the 2023 trim. Honestly it's a nice car for it's price.
One of the best car automotive has brought besides Honda VW is very reliable an fun to drive
The six speed actually gets better gas mileage on the eight speed automatic?
A lot better than the previous model
That Jetta Is A Must Popular Car.
Can’t wait until it finally release so I can finance this beauty
The wheels are identical to my 2020 SEL I got last year. So glad they didn't go with the wheels on the other review you did on the preview of the 2022. I see a few differences. I really like my Jetta and it feels a little more expensive than I paid for it. So far I have 6k miles and it has been OK. It had been sitting on the lot for over a year and I got a killer deal. Hope it holds up.
I remember that 90s model that you could get with the V6. always thought those were so nice back then.
Also i have bad eyes and i change out or cover the LED lights in my vehicles. So not having LED is a plus.
I like it. I just ordered one because of this review and your earlier reviews
I have to say the front is just so plain and simple but I know people like the practicality of it
Curious to hear reactions/experiences with the Lane Keep Assist.
@@lucarixuu Thanks for the reply! It appears VW is not consistent with how they apply the user experience. I hated it so much that I had to get rid of the car. As a result, I won't be a VW/Audi customer again. I had tried multiple times with VW customer service and two dealers to get some sanity, but nobody budged.
I love the new look and I think it's the best if all ever.
The design is gorgeous 🔥
Just bought a 2023 sport. It's got a lot to offer for the price you pay and it surprisingly turns a lot of heads due to the lack of these on the road.
So much better then a Corolla and on the lower trims such a great value
I believe the Sport trim retains the wheels from the 2020-2021 R-Line, which is a good thing (the R-Line is so far the only good-looking MKVII in my opinion).
I have a 2020 jetta r line. Total cost to drive from upstate ny to myrtle beach. 60 bucks! 45 mpg on the high way. With the ac on blast ! Il get 38-42 in the city
Ok, I had a 2016 passat, the engine light came on so I went to the dealership looking for a 2020 passat used and ended up buying a all black Jetta SE and I am very happy. I needed something to drive the kids to travel baseball and make some long trips twice a year bit other then that I don't drive much. For the price it does the job, looks nice and is quiet and comfortable. My other car is a 2020 civic Si, I drive that when I want to row gears and have some fun. Win win in my book.
1.5T is chain driven instead of belt right? Hopefully VW fixed their reliability issues with chain.
In 2019 this car came out with amber signals in the rear. Then they were gone since the 2020 MY, for shame VW. They looked really good when it had them.
I noticed too sadly
I own a 2020 jetta.the car is a great daily driver.sport mode is fun to drive in.
Great job, love the trains in the back round.
My current Jetta gave out with transmissions issues and it’s 6k to fix it. Looking to trade it in for this newer model. I really enjoyed this car
Looking forward for the 4 motion model for the snowy Canadian winter
Wow!! Really impressed😮🤩🤩🤩 thanks for your review!! Happy Holidays S.
Had a 2013 VW jetta that thing lasted me a while then got a 2019 VW Jetta although the car is somewhat basic it is a solid car I haven’t had any issues with it and I commute for work a good hour drive everyday
Same I got the r line version
You really can't get a better car for the money.
I don't understand why some manufacturers still skip trajectories on the reverse camera, is it that hard or costly to implement along? Idk. There are others as well who do this. But when there is trajectory it helps in better assist while reversing.
I prefer not having a trajectory personally, I find it distracting
In my country, the jetta is instict. Vw obly sells passat, tiguan, golf and arteon here. Its a shame really. Really want the jetta
hello looking into buying a 2022 one, to those who have had Jettas before, Im assuming just from reading everyones comments that these cars are very reliable and dont break down alot especially I will be taking good care of it!
This car with a 2.0 is the GLI I really want. Not the touch button electronic junk.
If possible, please review the Sport trim when you do your full review on this car. I'm hoping looks wise, VW kind of does a Sport/GLI thing with this car, similar to what Kia does with the Forte GT line/GT.
Driving ‘13 jetta TDI
No complaints!! 😎
He used the phrase “because this is a lower cost design”….pretty much VW’s motto since 2011.
I like it.
Excellent review 👏
Funny to see you driving around my home town

VW Australia stopped offering the Jetta a few years ago…. I kinda miss them as a commuter car….
But I’d get the GLI over the 3 turbo simply because the transmission in the Mazda is slow and old
@@nothere572 the Mazda 3 is still faster
Asheville! I think I know that exact spot down in the river arts district.
pre-refresh definitely looks better besides the new tailights imo.
It's nice comfortable vehicle, just a little plain Jane to me compared to cars like the Corolla, Civic or even the Elantra
This has to be the only car in America that offers ventilated seats but no trajectory for parking
Hey redline reviews I have a question. Have you guys every been pulled over while test driving during filming these?
Not while filming! We’ve been lucky :)
With this VW in the year 2022 does it still have the ambient lighting on the dash and doors? Just curious
yes
why would you expect paddles on the wheel for a 1.5 liter engine? makes no sense. you have to get away from the hooligan shit sometimes. not everything is about speed.
Wish VW would sell the ID.3 here. The Jetta mid-cycle refresh is pretty mild and boring.
When it actually be available? Still only 2021 I'm one dealerships..
VW restricts its dealers from 3rd stickering. They can only sell at MSRP max. Remember after all they are the peoples car brand.
Selling cars is interesting right now, but VW is certainly doing it better than the others. I’ve seen a Toyota prime marked up to 66k here in our network. 😂🙄
@@mikeyg751 thank you for this. I’m going to the dealer on Monday for service. It will. E interesting to see the MK8 in person though. Also interesting to see what they do with the SE model.
Ultimately, this car is definitely impressive, but it doesn’t have balls. Then again, maybe it’s because I’m not used to driving compact 🤷🏾♂️
I do Like this up dated version of the 1.5 turbo volkswagon jetta better than the old one. 160hp and 185lbs will make It a little faster.
I watched this random yt recommended review and bought a 2022 Jetta. Jetta was not even in my list of cars.
I can't wait for a full redesign. It looks FRUMPY. I prefer the previous design of the last generation.
Agreed!
Nice review!
I didn't see a brake auto hold button. Am I right to assume it doesn't come with it?
Hey Redline Reviews, can you do a video called The 2022 Volkswagen Passat Limited Edition is the Final Sendoff German Sedan please?
I bought a used 2013 Jetta with the 2.5L I5 half a year ago and i average about 28-29mpg. Saving about $100/month on fuel compared to driving my truck that does about 16mpg. It'll pay for itself in fuel savings in about 6 years
Definitely like the look of the 2022 refresh better 😍
don't care for LED lights, they are blinding to look at and don't actually illuminate what you want to see. and what's with the fast flashing, going to give someone a seizure. other than that little thing i like it.
