Robin Williams told this story of when he won the Oscar, he spoke to Jack Nicholson after winning his 3rd Oscar. Nicholson said he now has one for every decade, to which Williams said “oh you bastard”
My favorite Robin Williams’ performances were the Genie, Alan Parrish, Sean Maguire, Adrian Cronauer, Teddy Roosevelt, and Daniel Hillard/Mrs. Doubtfire
I think about this movie so frequently, every monologue the way Sean and Will bond, the fact that he FINALLY listens when he realizes the Ben Affleck character talks some sense into him about the opportunity he's been wasting away on. Everything just speaks to me and I can't believe that Matt and Ben wrote this as one of their firsts and although the screenplay alone was gold, the actors with Robin and Matt are what make it fully workl
What is amazing about this film is how much they get right regarding mental health. The self destructive tendencies for people who have trauma and how they self sabotage without realizing it. It is just an amazing bit of film and everything that robin's charcter does (besides ya know choking will out) is textbook good therapy techniques.
Especially for '97. Let's face it, the 90s were still very much a time of not taking mental health seriously, so seeing a major film from that era tackle it with such sincerity AND accuracy is a genuinely momentous occasion.
I feel like Matt Damon is an underrated actor. He can do Action movies, dramas, comedies, be a leading man, a supporting player all while still having this believability to do all these roles. Another great drama Doug should check out with Robin Williams as a bearded doctor is Awakenings, along with Dead Poets Society, it's the role that made Robin Williams more than just a comedian.

@@kennethd4958He’s well known, but at the same time, he’s not nearly as talked about as other people like Tom Cruise, or DiCaprio. Even his friend Ben Affleck got to be Batman. I really love this film and it’s one of my all time favorites. I first watched this film when I was in high school and it helped me go through my school years. It had a great screenplay by Damon and Affleck themselves and Robin Williams gave an outstanding performance throughout the entire film.
I sob every single time I watch the “it’s not your fault” scene. Both Damon and William’s are so believable and the way Damon cries the way a child would, finally letting out the emotions he had to learn to suppress due to his home life is so heartbreaking.
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon did eventually write and star in another film together years later in The Last Duel that Ridley Scott directed that came out in 2021.

Doug, please do a Nostalgia Critic Review of Bicentennial Man. In my opinion, it was Robin Williams' most underrated film/performance & I want to hear your thoughts about it.
Rest in Peace, Robin Williams. He deservedly won an Oscar for his phenomenal work here, and I'll never forget his story about his wife farting in her sleep, which was apparently improvised. It even made the cameraman crack up, as evidenced by the slight shaking.
Thirded, I can't believe that it's been an entire decade without such a beloved icon. Rest in Peace, Robin Williams, thank you for bringing laughter into many a childhood.
This movie seriously changed my life. I dealt with ADHD my whole life and always felt it was my fault when I wasnt on time, didn't do my homework or wasn't paying attention much during class. Then I realised that there was maybe more going on than me just being a lousy human being. The fact that Robin Williams also has ADHD made me connect with the famous quote big time
This is in fact my all time favorite movie! I’ve seen it a dozen times, and it still feels fresh to me every time I watch it. Doug pretty much sums up why it’s so good so I’ll just leave it at that, but if I’m asked what’s the greatest movie I’ve ever seen,, I always bring up Good Will Hunting.
I saw the movie for the first time earlier this year and was really endeared by it. Afterwards, a friend and I were in Boston and found the bench at the Public Garden and even set foot in the L Street Tavern in Southie. It felt like setting foot in holy ground.
For me this is one of my personal favorite movies, it was a film that definitely came to me at the right time that I didn’t know I needed. And it does hold up very well when it comes to the conversations, the acting, and the general themes.
Left the most famous clip - the fart gag when the camera shakes because even the cameraman can't help himself but laugh and you can tell Matt was struggling to keep in character - till last. Nice touch.
So I was a fan of this movie from when it came out but my boyfriend disregarded the movie based off what he'd heard about it. Finally I convinced him to watch the movie in its entirety about five years ago, pushing him based on Robin Williams awesomeness. He now joins me in quoting this movie. It's one of those that you actually appreciate more as the years have gone on.
I've only seen the movie once, about 10 years, I think, but it changed how I thought about academia at the time. It's no Dead Poets Society, but I remember it being a very good film.
Movie I hope Doug does for Disneycember next year: Hollywood Pictures: GI Jane, Mr. Holland’s Opus Miramax: She’s All That Video Games: Aladdin (SNES), Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, LEGO Star Wars The Complete Saga (Original Trilogy half), Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga (2022) Lucasfilm: Indiana Jones films (Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, Last Crusade, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Dial of Destiny re-review), THX1138, American Grafitti, Willow, Young Indiana Jones TV series, Star Wars: The Bad Batch 20th Century Studios: Avatar (2009) re-review, The pre-MCU X-Men films, Miracle on 34th Street (both 1947 and 1994 versions) Inevitable reviews for next year: Captain America Brave New World, Thunderbolts, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Zootopia 2, Snow White remake, Lilo and Stitch remake, Elio, Tron Ares, Avatar: Fire and Ash (spoiler review)
And the fact Kevin Smith was the one who made Miramax buy this movie. It’s true Ben Affleck send Kevin the script and he loved that he show the heads and they love it too
Another film that has no business being a Disney property, but welcome to America. Where you have more choices on a McDonalds menu than you do anywhere else. Now that streaming services and other big corporations are buying up everything, there's no character to anything anymore. In the 90s, Good Will Hunting and Pulp Fiction would have been mocked endlessly and never taken seriously if they were originally owned by Disney. By the late 90s, Disney wasn't even family entertainment. It was for little kids, so the effort wasn't there. Good Will Hunting is R-rated, so I'm surprised it's not part of Disney's subsidiary, Touchstone Pictures.
Speaking of great Robin Williams movies, at some point, you should do a Disneycember for Dead Poets Society. It was made by Touchstone, so it qualifies😁😁
For me, this is the definitive version of the coming-of-age formula. If you only see one film that follows that formula, this should be it. Because it is so strictly formulaic, it doesn’t really stand up to repeat full viewings (though select segments are endlessly rewatchable), but it’s an excellent film for what it is.
This is still one of my favorite Robin Williams movies. 1. Aladdin 2. Hook 3. Good Will Hunting 4. One Hour Photo 5. Jumanji 6. Mrs. Doubtfire 7. Awakenings 8. Good Morning, Vietnam 9. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck teamed up again for the under-rated _Air,_ acting-wise (not written by them). It's worth a watch for those who haven't seen it. It's about how the Air Jordan's were made from behind the scenes at the NIKE coorperation.
Regarding Williams' Oscar win for this film, I'm blanking on what critic said this, but they said that while Williams' Oscar was deserved, it was still kind of insulting to Williams that he won an Oscar for THIS film, and not any of his comedic roles. It basically told Williams (and comedians in general) that theyll only ever be taken seriously if they do serious roles. Also Burt Reynolds (who was also nominated in the same category that year) thought it was unfair that Williams won because he's a comedian.
Since you're including Miramax movies as part of DisneyCember, I hope you get to "Rounders," Matt Damon's other popular movie released around the same time as "Good Will Hunting."
Can't really call it the "Film that started the careers of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck" as they had done many movies beforehand, but IT IS the movie that made them names. Affleck had already done Kevin Smith's MALLRATS and CHASING AMY (heck, he and Damon were filming DOGMA when they won the Oscar for Best Screenplay), so he was the first to read the script and sent it to the Weinsteins; however, although Affleck and Damon asked him to direct, he said it was clearly just them DESPERATE to get it made, but as he did get the script through the Miramax door, he got exec producer cred on it).
Both Ben Affleck as well Matt Damon are from Boston and this was their earliest films, so I usually let it slide. I mean they were both in the Fenway park scene In Field of dreams for crying out loud.
I'm pretty sure those accents are legitimate, and it's their everyday accents you hear in all their other movies that is fake. It's similar to actors like Hugh Jackman or Mel Gibson--have clear Australian accents, but in the movies, they sound as American as Mac & Cheese. Also, since Disneycember's about to rap up, I can't wait until your review of What About Bob?. That film is absolutely hilarious.

You are awesome 😎
Love this movie
Both Ben Affleck as well Matt Damon are from Boston and this was their earliest films, so I usually let it slide. I mean they were both in the Fenway park scene In Field of dreams for crying out loud.
"How you like them nipples?"

Movie i remember watching years ago in 2019 when Covid-19 happened
