Great visuals undermined by a lackluster storyline and pacing. This movie has some good moments but never felt remotely attached to a character like I had with Caesar.
I think the thing that most people miss about this movie is that it is a filler to build the gap and show the world as it is now three hundred years later, roughly... That way, they can bring in the original storyline. Of a space traveler, as I described in another comment coming back from the mission that was hinted at in the first movie through the news and newspaper articles. The story is lackluster because it's intentionally focusing on the time gap and where things have gone wrong since Ceasar's death.
This movie was a huge let down for me. The effects were great, the cinematography was beautiful, but the story was weak. It lacked the emotional resonance that made the first 3 films so endearing. In that trilogy I felt deeply connected to many of the characters, and to Caesar in particular. That was true right from the first film. I did not feel any of that with this movie.
Dam was surprised that you guys were literally the only reactors to not react to her saying Noah it's supposed to be a call back to when Cesar spoke for the first time
I agree with scary. Apes never talked in till Cesar, people talked just in the previous movie. Also Cesar’s scene was more impactful because his first words spoken were an act of defiance/ resistance
@@ComicPhreak I mean what I said. At the end of the credits of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes you can hear Koba climbing out of debris, grunting and breathing heavily. But then he’s only in War as a hallucination. And now people are applying the same theories they made when that happened to Raka. I heavily doubt he’ll be back given what happened with Koba.
I've been waiting for this reaction poor QUINN 😂. And I love we have Freya Allen from the Witcher. She is a fantastic actress! I suggest watching Gunpowder Milkshake she is in it!! Great reaction fellas 🩵
As much as people talk about humans living side by side with ape back then, people forget they didn't live side by side with us really. We kept them more as slaves in cages. Sure, in the wild they lived side by side. But we would eventually build and build to the point of leaving them no forests to live in, thus showing we didn't care about them to some degree. Probably why I always see humans as villians in these movies. Sure, I hope for a peaceful side by side situation again where smart apes now live with smart humans. But I just know we humans have a strong survival instinct and have no issue killing ourselves off, let alone animals, when feeling nervous or scared.
To me Mae in this movie seems more like another Anthagonist than a protagonist, because she is basically using the Noa and his friends to achiev her goals and dosn't really care how many apes get drowned. When she kills Travethian she dosen't even hasitate.
@@ThatShyGuyMattI don't think the apes nor the humans are the villains in this movie. Yes, humans kept apea in cages but that's because before the virus apes were legitimately primitive beasts that did pose a danger to humans. You can't just let a gorilla walk around the street. What if it feels threatened and bites someone's finger off. Besides, apes like Koba and Proximus are proof that when the roles are reversed the apes act just like we did. It's nature that smarter animals will always dominate less intelligent ones. Both humans and apes just want the best for their own species.
After they make two more movies for this trilogy, it makes me wonder if they will do a third trilogy about the astronauts returning to Earth. We kept getting glimpses of them through the first trilogy in news articles. Unless of course that was simply a call back to the old movies.
What I loved most about this movie was that it didn't try to one-up the reboot trilogy, which we all know is impossible. Instead, they took the high road and used it as a basis to steer the franchise in a new direction that will lead to what Earth has become when Charlton Heston dropped in.
This was my favorite of the series simply due to the gun scene. Imagine what it would be like to be a primitive culture and witness one of the "old gods" smite someone without even touching them. Blows my mind to think about.
I was so sad about Rakka in this movie. He was my favourite character aside from Noa. I just love Orangutans in general so was gutted to see him go :'( I was so sure he might survive and come back
I love the theme of fanatism and how a bad interpretation of a past figure can lead to basically a cult Edit: I understand the complain of the pace but also i can forgive it because this is the first of a new trilogy and has to set up a lot. Doesn't make the movie better but i can see why was done that way. I'm actually more excited for the next installments
I appreciated the way they built out this new world, taking time before they got to the main conflict. I think it helped me be a lot more invested. I'm sorry it just seemed tedious and/or unnecessary for some of you.
Yeah. I am a sucker for slow pacing that is meaningful, so, like you, I loved it. One thing I do agree with Quinn is: I also didn’t get attached to Noa as a character that much. After watching Rise for the first time, even having not seen Dawn and War yet, I was already very invested in Caesar. I didn’t get that feeling with Kingdom and its protagonist/s. However, I still loved this movie, and am looking forward to a sequel. And, maybe the next movies will make me love Noa as much as I do Caesar?
This movie is SOOOOOO smart for a blockbuster. The apes across the movie consider Caesar to be a god or a divine leader and each tribe views the other's use of his word as blasphemy. But Proximus declaring himself Caesar IS blasphemy. The war between humans and apes in this movie is really nuanced. So many humans have turned primitive, but a small amount have speech and outside of Trevathan, are working together to fight back against the apes. We as humans I believe are torn between how inspirational and favorable Noa is to cheer for and our desire to not see humanity wiped out. Mae has this powerful allegiance to the resurgence and regrowth of the human race and is clearly willing to do whatever it takes to get closer to that. Her dynamic with Noah is so electrifying to watch in the movie, and the way that their relation will grow and move between this strange friendship and being rivals purely because of species is such a compelling idea. I believe that through the telescope, they're probably looking at the spaceship that took off in Rise of the POTA. That would be a REALLY strong and potent direction to take the serious. But other than the weight and intelligence of the writing compared to most 200 million dollar action movies, it ties so well spiritually to the previous trilogy and the older 60s-70s movies. Great references like the Doll that says "Mama" from the OG. The story does move slowly though. You're right about that.
You’re legit the only reactors I’ve seen so far that put together the “wrong Caesar” thing, this was the first Apes movies I saw (and I got that with no other context which says something sad for media literacy nowadays). Personally I think it has its faults, like there seems to be setup for scenes that just don’t happen but exist as deleted scenes even though the movie just doesn’t feel long enough to justify removing them, but it is up to par with Rise for me. It took a second watch before I actually appreciated it but I have to give it props for the first watch because it sparked an intense interest in me that made me watch the previous trilogy 💜
That's amazing, I have the same "man so much potential missed" feeling about this movie. I was waiting for this movie for years. Glad to see that it sparked your interest though! Welcome! APES TOGETHER STRONG

I find it hard to understand the point of the pacing because while it completely makes sense to want a faster pacing it's not really true that they slowed it down to "develop new characters". it's a deliberate choice for this story because it's scaled down too. we're not in this grand story of "humans vs apes" anymore, it's a regional, smaller story about a single clan being entangled in this cultist fanatic who manipulates the others to gain power. plus we get to see how the legacy of the founding father of an entirely new type of civilization is used for different means. this movie is more of a political piece and less of an epic, and I think for that it is amazing. Again, I understand wanting faster pacing, but it's a different type of movie than the others and that is part of its style.
There's a really fantastic version of the this film you can watch that shows both the finished film and the on-location pre-CGI performances at the same time. It's a fascinating look at how they made the film with the actors playing the apes
33:15, Chimpanzees have their fingers curled by default as an adaptation for living in trees and it allows them to hang/swing from branches without having to put in too much effort.
The key that she retrieved was so that they could communicate using the satellites both for ground communication, but also to the stars... perhaps the ship, like from the original movies, that was discussed in the first movie briefly through the news. I think it somewhere said that a ship was exploring some phenomenon in space (maybe something that would jump them through time to this point like in both the original and the Mark Wahlberg remake). I believe that's what they were hinting at when Noa was looking through the telescope at the end and showing Soona, which would explain his face at the end looking not too happy as it was just another thing that humans had claimed for themselves, the stars. That's just my thoughts.
I'm kinda disappointed that they didn't connect certain things and certain plot lines when they were introduced, because i connected a lot of it right away in theaters. This movie to me was probably the 3rd best of the 4, maybe 2nd. You obviously wont get invested as quick because you saw caesar grow up but i still got invested pretty quick. 3.5-4 out of 5 from me, i love this franchise, cant wait for the 2nd movie of the 2nd trilogy
loved this film, not as much as the first trilogy but loved it, also are you folks going to get into rings of power season 2 I really liked it I know theres obviously going to be some hate but would really enjoy seeing you guys react because it was GREAT
True Quinn they have done horrible things with their strength but as humans were aren't much different in terms of brutal behavior, just think of all the brutal and scary things people have done too. We are related to them and unfortunately nature has made us to be brutal sometimes for whatever reasons.
yeah sorry guys....Raka was not Andre Keith Braugher from brooklyn 9-9 that was actually Peter Macon for me known from the Orville as Lt.Bortus, he was also in law and order, dexter, Shameless and Family Guy.
I immediately went to think that they called them echoes because of the phrase “echoes of the past” I’ve heard it used in reference to history and archaeology. I felt like it’s a pretty common phrase most people have heard but I haven’t looked it up to see if I’m actually right
The filmmakers are different with this movie, and they are probably going to turn this into a second Apes trilogy, but if they don't, this would be a perfect lead-in and time to react to the original, 1968 classic, which is legendary for a good reason. ✌❤
I can agree that this film's runtime did not help it. I still liked it, but think this is definitely the beginning of a new narrative trilogy for the franchise the "Era of Ceasar" being over and perhaps we'll get a couple more films that more closely follow the events Mae and Noa started.
Like the previous three movies in the Apes series, this movie also contains Easter Eggs from the original Planet of the Apes series, like the name Nova, which is from the 1968 classic that started it all. This movie is probably the weakest of the four movies in the new series, IMO, but it's still really enjoyable. Great reaction, guys ✌
They could be setting up for a sequel of course but personally I think that if no sequel comes most of those remaining smart humans gather together eventually into that atomic cult we saw in the original planet of the apes trilogy
@@alvietube3131 They've done a pretty decent job story and visual effects wise as well as getting the movements of apes down pretty well so I am admittedly interested in seeing how they handle future films
i loved this movie. at the level of Rogue One. both of those movies brought a sense of reality to their fantasy stories. i think the slow pace added to the immersion, not every moment in life is full of meaning and action. we get a lot more boring and meaningless time on our hands than we would like.
Please react to a movie called How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies. It's a Thai movie, it centered around a young male who, after received news that his grandma got diagnosed with cancer, decided to take care of his grandma while he himself trying to secure his inheritance from his grandma. This movie is a seriously tear-jerker movie, full of family-themed lessons and, I can dare to say, this movie is a lot better than any family movies that you've ever seen or reacted before.
I really loved this movie because of the villain and the main character, too, especially the villain Proximus Caesar. The story and themes are good. Can't believe y'all didn't love this movie, and all four of y'all are the first reactors that didn't love this movie. Everybody loves the reversed card of this movie but y'all didn't
I'm majorly disappointed, thought they loved it until they gave the review. But each their own😂 they missed so much, maybe they were too busy watching the movie and trying to connect voices and faces to think about plot and story
Was an ok movie. It only did well because of the hyped made by the original trilogy and the anticipation that this would have been a close continuous story of ceasar's child.
7:35 the only reason apes have 'evolved' was because of those genetics tinkering that heightened their intelligence that spread wide and far because they used a virus as the delivery method, the virus only affected humans and primates, and even then it's debatable whether such could truly be called evolution. Even if we consider the ape's situation evolution, outside of the apes as a whole evolution is a process that takes place over a vast amount of time and in the short term will be minor stuff like a lineage of longer beaked birds propagating and becoming more predominant in a area because that genetic change affords them more advantages in a location than the shorter beaked ancestors
@@MissB2483 But the first three saga told a full story already. This is the start of a new story. So you could call it the "Ceasar"-Trioloy plus the frist movie of a new Triology (or more I don't know).
Yeah, this movie was so mixed for me. It was by no means the worst thing ever. But it failed to meet my expectations. For starters without Ceaser, it feels a bit more souless. Ceaser is the glue that held the movies together. His leadership, his views..etc. Because they decided to go into the future, it also means no one we know is here. So starting a new trilogy with a new cast I understand, but it also means you have to somehow capture that magic again. And it fails on that part. There is no reason for us to care as much as we did before about lead ape. Yeah, apes fighting apes, but eh. It's an not the same as being a test subject, escaping humans, then leading a revolution after the humans mostly die. On top of this they should have perhaps gone even more in the future. Like in the very old movies where apes actually had a society. This was somewhere in between so it was stillla bit primal and less exciting. Then you get into the human aspect. It was nice seeing the devolved humans in it. Having a human pretending to be devolved was a nice touch, but it was kinda obvious by how she acted, her clothes...etc. I did rather enjoy the end seeing there are more humans trying to contact each other. But it makes me feel the next two movies will be about humans gaingin strength and trying to fight the apes again. Which has already been done and no one wants to see again. My only hope is the maybe the movies lead to a future where the huans and apes actually do live side by side as the world comes back around. Humans start to make small village again and have electricity, apes live also in the villages. A peaceful ending. But I don't know if that is the route they will go as there always needs to be bad guys. And humans usually are. They could maybe do a finale where there are two teams, each team made up of man and ape. Good and bad. Figthing for the future. So will I see the next two movies? Well only because I was react to stuff also. Will I be excited to though? Depends on the trailer for the next movie. Assuming they decide not to scrap it. Though they did say they want to more or less make alot more movies. I gave the movie a 5 out of 10. Wiht some leaning to 4.5. Especially because of parts that were silly. Like all the apes outnumbered the leader at the end and could have taken him down. Or the predictable parts. Or the non-sensical parts.
MEANINGLESS, HUH? WHAT DO YOU KNOW OF MEANINGLESS? Spend most of your life ruled by another! Watch your race dwindle to a handful! AND THEN, tell me what has more meaning than your own strength! I have in me the blood of a Saiyan prince. He is nothing but a joke! Yet I've had to watch him surpass me in strength, my destiny thrown to the wayside! He's... he's even saved my life like I were a helpless child. He has stolen my honor, and his debts... must be paid!
Jane Goodall would tell you to never go anywhere near a chimpanzee. As far as their intelligence just look up chimpanzees and memory tests here on RUclips😧
I love this movie so much, even tho it was the day i had my first panic attack over a stupid girl😂😂i saw the notification and i was like OOOOOOOOOOO YESSSS. Much love, yall have done so much to help me do a complete 180 in my life❤❤
It did drag and I honestly thought they could have removed the Mae storyline. Noa going on his journey, meeting Raca and saving his clan would have sufficed. I think the apes finding those weapons without her would have been really interesting, yet tragic. They could have had a talking human reveal in the after credits scene I do like that the story is exploring how Cesar's life is being interpreted and influencing ape culture.
Hard agree with you guys 😅 went into this so excited and sat at the end let down by the story, took a step backwards to apes v humans rather than actually get us a step closer to the original planet of the apes like it was meant to I feel
Well, we were a little conflicted on this one. What was you reaction? Did this film meet your expectations?

This movie to me was probably the 3rd best of the 4, maybe 2nd. You obviously wont get invested as quick because you saw caesar grow up but i still got invested pretty quick. 3.5-4 out of 5 from me, i love this franchise, cant wait for the 2nd movie of the 2nd trilogy
The 2nd movie will be in 2027...
loved this film, not as much as the first trilogy but loved it, also are you folks going to get into rings of power season 2 I really liked it I know theres obviously going to be some hate but would really enjoy seeing you guys react because it was GREAT
yes, let's go this movie is awesome your reaction is going to be great
True Quinn they have done horrible things with their strength but as humans were aren't much different in terms of brutal behavior, just think of all the brutal and scary things people have done too. We are related to them and unfortunately nature has made us to be brutal sometimes for whatever reasons.
Ultimately though there is beauty in humans and apes too, despite the brutality.
yeah sorry guys....Raka was not Andre Keith Braugher from brooklyn 9-9 that was actually Peter Macon for me known from the Orville as Lt.Bortus, he was also in law and order, dexter, Shameless and Family Guy.
The Oshkosh Birch with the high score!
Andre Braugher aka. Captain Holt passed away. Peter Macon voiced Raka.
I immediately went to think that they called them echoes because of the phrase “echoes of the past” I’ve heard it used in reference to history and archaeology. I felt like it’s a pretty common phrase most people have heard but I haven’t looked it up to see if I’m actually right
WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY 🗣️🗣️🗣️
We coming around to the situation in the second original movie. We're heading off into an interesting direction.
Wait you guys haven't reacted to Reacher on Prime yet?? That feels like a no brainer for y'all. You'd love it.
I love the RDR2 reference’s
Wait why was the intro music so good
The filmmakers are different with this movie, and they are probably going to turn this into a second Apes trilogy, but if they don't, this would be a perfect lead-in and time to react to the original, 1968 classic, which is legendary for a good reason. ✌❤
I can agree that this film's runtime did not help it. I still liked it, but think this is definitely the beginning of a new narrative trilogy for the franchise the "Era of Ceasar" being over and perhaps we'll get a couple more films that more closely follow the events Mae and Noa started.
It was hard to decide what to watch first! This or y'alls new TWD upload on the arcade channel!
Was that a version of John Cena's theme in the beginning transition to the movie? That's hilarious.
I love this movie mainly because that Raka (like the orangutan of this movie) is the name of my brother 😆
well bad news for mason quinn, this is supposed to be the start of a new set of movies. at least a trilogy.
I forgot her name in this was Mae!! My name is Mae as well. Let's go Mae 😂
You guys need to watch TROY
They could be setting up for a sequel of course but personally I think that if no sequel comes most of those remaining smart humans gather together eventually into that atomic cult we saw in the original planet of the apes trilogy
Pretty sure they want another trilogy or two for this franchise
@@alvietube3131 They've done a pretty decent job story and visual effects wise as well as getting the movements of apes down pretty well so I am admittedly interested in seeing how they handle future films
4 Movies in and their all still calling them monkeys left and right lmao
Heck yea!
Please watch The White Bird it is a very powerful and inspiring movie, thank you💜💜
I am pleading for you guys to watch Need For Speed (2014), since watching other racing movies, I think you guys might enjoy it!
i loved this movie. at the level of Rogue One. both of those movies brought a sense of reality to their fantasy stories. i think the slow pace added to the immersion, not every moment in life is full of meaning and action. we get a lot more boring and meaningless time on our hands than we would like.
Generation is how long it takes people to have kids, so yes Oak's 25 years is right.
i really love your videos!! can you pls react to Sweene Todd: the demon barber of fleet street? it's one of my favorite movies!!
The director already confirmed 5 more movies in this trilogy!!
5 movies is not a trilogy is a saga. Trilogy means 3.
I do not think that word means what you think it means.
Need deadpool and wolverine soon
Was an ok movie. It only did well because of the hyped made by the original trilogy and the anticipation that this would have been a close continuous story of ceasar's child.
I can't wait for you to watch PEEKAY AAMIR KHAN
They really skipped over What a wonderful day
watch war movie from indian film industry
YEEAAAAAASS 🎉
React to bedevilled or ghostland pleaseeee ❤
awesome !!! hope you watch god of war rising kratos a documentary for the 2018 game
Greatest trilogy OF ALL TIME!! Caesar the goat!
There's 4 movies in the series, therefore it's called a tetralogy or quadrilogy
@@MissB2483 But the first three saga told a full story already. This is the start of a new story. So you could call it the "Ceasar"-Trioloy plus the frist movie of a new Triology (or more I don't know).
I loved this one! Second or third favourite of the newest four. Disagree hard with you guys. Loved the characters, story, all of it.
I loved it too. it could have been even longer in my opinion.
It’s garbage, the trilogy is where it should of ended.
The guys are right I hate this film no where near as good as the last 3 films
You guys gotta react to “THE HATEFUL 8” ❗️❗️
That PLUS any other Tarantino flick they haven't seen yet.
Deathproof was one my favorites of his!
Watch billa movie (Telugu) staring prabhas…it’s a gangster movie u will for sure like it 💥💥💥
Please watch "chhichhore" for tribute to sushant singh rajput, he is not more with us he passed few years back 😔 . The movie is very entertaining
YESSSSSSS
Is Apocalypto film on your radar?
There haven't been many requests for this one. Maybe we can investigate it.
Fantastic movie.
I didn't saw that tho
Release kalki part 3 😢
I still like how in the first movie they gave Charleston Heston's famous line to Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton).
Pls react to World Trigger anime
Release kalki part 3
You guys should check out the movie Congo another movie with aps in it.
Much love, yall have done so much to help me do a complete 180 in my life❤❤
OH OH ALSO the movie in total, if i remember correctly, was 44 Petabytes (44,000 Terabytes/44 Million Gigabytes)
You mean mae? Mae wasn't stupid. She did what she thought was right.
@@Lilithly Huh? No, this was a personal life thing?
@@Lilithly 🤣🤣At-the-time girlfriend. I was so confused
It did drag and I honestly thought they could have removed the Mae storyline. Noa going on his journey, meeting Raca and saving his clan would have sufficed. I think the apes finding those weapons without her would have been really interesting, yet tragic. They could have had a talking human reveal in the after credits scene
I do like that the story is exploring how Cesar's life is being interpreted and influencing ape culture.
It's funny how we got 2 awesome monkey villains this year. Skar King from Godzilla x Kong and Proximus Ceasar.
Hard agree with you guys 😅 went into this so excited and sat at the end let down by the story, took a step backwards to apes v humans rather than actually get us a step closer to the original planet of the apes like it was meant to I feel
