This is brilliant! I'm going to be hunting for fans in charity shops once we can go out again. Those offcuts you had spare, would make good decorative panels in other things like cupboard doors too. When you struggled with the basswood, it was because the grain was running across the narrow strip, rather than along it. A way to get round it would be to make the frame of 4 separate pieces joined at the corners, then you can cut each piece so that the grain runs along it. Thanks so much for this tutorial, Ara, it it just what I want to create for a dollhouse my hubby found in the stair landing going down to the backyard of our building. It is a Beacon Hill kit that someone started and never finished, so I will be renovating it and I had decided that the bulky stairs had to go and make space for circular stairs, to lighten up the room. Great tutorial and, like Catherine Koehler pointed out, you are giving us miniaholics a 12 step program to create a great set of stairs. 🏰
That staircase is absolutely beautiful! It is just perfection itself! You do such amazing work! I wish I could do such intricate detailed work, but I a tremor in both hands and it just makes it impossible. I also love the books! They are all so beautiful, but especially the Celtic treasure book. Gorgeous!
Just a suggestion from having glued many thin pieces of wood lattice for a project once... those triangular makeup sponges make amazing applicators for glue. Dip a little, then lightly bounce the sponge. Applies an even coat without filling the tiny holes. I got mine at the dollar store.

These would also work great as register covers in a Victorian dollhouse. Love the painting technique, really deceives the eye into thinking it’s metal.
Way to go, Ara, you really knocked it out of the park, they look perfect. The metal effect is amazing. I would just make the circular part the same color as the stairs and make it look like its bolted to the floor. He needs a hookah to relax with while he is reading and a box of cigars, lol.
I never thought I’d have a need to make a spiral staircase, but I was wrong. My plans are to make a two story mini store/upper apartment inside a 17w, 9d, and 24h lantern. Not really knowing what my design will look like doesn’t deter me from wanting to incorporate a beautiful (metal) spiral staircase in my project. Yours is perfect! Great tutorial.

That turned out really pretty. I think if I was making it, I'd be raiding my cotton yarn rather than my wool, just to avoid the fuzzies that come from using wool or acrylic yarn. Something else that would work well is to take thinner cotton yarns and twist them together just as you would to make ropes from strings. Fascinating construction for ropes/cables etc, because of their countertwist, it makes them very strong and resistant to untwisting. I've been very lucky to see traditional hemp ropes being made at a heritage shipyard on the original machinery they used to do it between the Industrial revolution and 1900s, so for me, there's a nostalgic connection that would make me want to make a more traditional ship rope for such a project.
Great suggestions Rob! And thanks for the bit of backstory behind the ropes. Information like that always helps me make design decisions as I go a long. I will definitely be doing some rope research in the upcoming weeks!
5:28 Good morning 😃! When I know I’m going to have long periods of waiting while working on a project I try to have another project nearby to work on. I love this staircaise. So clever. I want to send you a link to a good video on the Wasa-ship in Sweden . It's on english and only 8 min. It's even a miniature -Wasa on display . Enjoy! Mia
I love your stuff. I use nail files for acrylic nail to do my delicate sanding. They are fairly cheap and can be found at Wmart, Dollar Tree etc. Two-sided they usually have a coarse and a fine side.
Thank you for sharing your process! This took some real problem solving skills! I had to make several mock-ups when I made my stairs for the tree stump I’m working on. This looks fabulous!
The staircase is a work of art Ara! It just looks so authentic; I realise it took you ages but the result is amazing and you should be so proud of what you created.
Watching the recent video for this project I was trying to remember how much of it I saw 'live'. I know I found your channel during COVID (with the cardboard house) and I think this is the one. So, I have seen a lot of it live. I have watched all the previous videos as well. I'm really wanting to make a trip to see it once it's at the museum since I saw most of it being built!
I have always had a fascination for all things miniature. So I can’t get enough of seeing your ideas and progress. It’s a very realistic and handsome staircase. Looks genuinely metallic alright. The miniature books are beautifully crafted and all is very impressive. Do you think modpodging the blades would have strengthened them?
Beautiful, intricate, well executed, stunning - and a real pleasure to watch. The effect of the wood glue coating everything and doming against the surfaces is really effective - it would have possibly worked been completed easier with uv resin, but probably cost a lot more. I love the bronze/gold finish that you eventually achieve. Can't wait to see some aged ropes hanging round the top of it - perhaps you might need to make another set of them to go down through the staircase for the Captain to hold onto, or he could have a serious accident in choppy waters, let alone a storm. As always, highly watchable, and eagerly waited.
Good point! Uv resin probably could have got a similar result faster but it definitely would have cost a little more. I decided to leave the handrails off because the ship is such close quarters maybe he can support himself against the walls ;) Thank you so much!!
So informative! Thank you so much! It turned out fantastic and will be a great addition to the captain's quarters. This would be good for ANY miniature (at the proper scale of course). hehe forever and ever and ever and EVER! I know the feeling. I have that love/hate thing going with the egg box carton floors and walls I love/hate to do. Love the effect, hate the process. Although some tedious things are just so satisfying to do.... Like adding moss to projects... I just love it....
I love watching your videos, I joined a little late to the Captains Quarters fun. Been catching up on all the crafting fun & trying to follow the story line, watching them out of order as I didn't realize there was a whole play list with all related videos together. I'm pretty much caught up with what is currently available with this project & have thoroughly enjoyed it. I plan to do a similar project but "Barbie" sized and you've given so many ideas.
I was thinking that the rope was likely to be a red velvet, like you see in the old movie houses. Love the work you did on the stairs. And you are right about ducking your head, and lifting your legs. The hatch are usually (I think) 6-8 inches off deck so you have to be careful that is why they call them Shin Busters. Thanks for the video.

Haha so true! That's funny. There could be a "identitfy the miniaturist by their choice of glue" and you guys would all get it! Heather is on the mend and getting strong each day! I have seen her comment here and there online again!
@@BentleyHouseMinis Have you come across a channel called Nerd Forge yet? If not I highly recommended checking them. They make all kinds of things and the girl has a love of wood glue also. Particularly when it comes to bookbinding. 😏😁😂
@@BentleyHouseMinis Thanks for the update on Heather also. She is the reason that I even started watching miniature videos. Despite the fact that I actually have very little interest in actually making them myself. 🤦♀️🤷♀️😏😁😂
Love, love stairs! You are SO imaginative!! The mini books are also amazing!!!
These would also work great as register covers in a Victorian dollhouse. Love the painting technique, really deceives the eye into thinking it’s metal.
oh that's a great idea!
Way to go, Ara, you really knocked it out of the park, they look perfect. The metal effect is amazing. I would just make the circular part the same color as the stairs and make it look like its bolted to the floor. He needs a hookah to relax with while he is reading and a box of cigars, lol.
Thank you! And good suggestion for the base. The Addams have a hookah... maybe they will lend it to the Captain!! ;)
This is AMAZING I always wanted this type of steps. Wow thanks for this video
You're so welcome my friend!💖
@@BentleyHouseMinis Ur so Talented and such an amazing person. I'm looking at all the new videos I missed. I have so much catching up to do
So much beautiful!!!!
Yay! I am so glad it will be a useful tutorial for you!
simply stunning work! you are so patient! loving every minute of watching you! tfs luv and hugs Pammie x x
Thank you Pammie!
This staircase is AMAZING!! 💗💗💗💗
Fantastic job on the stairs for the Captains Quarter’s. You make everything look so easy and it always looks fabulous in the end. Thanks for sharing your talent with us. Stay safe, healthy and stay home.🥰❤️🥰
Thank you my friend! You stay safe as well😊❤❤
Here I am again 😉.... This Is AH'MAZING!!! I would so love to be inside your brain for just a day! Lol Would Love to see how your thinking goes when when you decide to start a project or a piece of the project! It's simply one of the most Beautifully, intriguing items I've seen... So far! Mind you this is only the 3rd video I've watched of yous, and as you may figure out, I'm watching these out of order. Sooo, I'm going to have to start at the first one all the way to the end. If only I could stay awake for, oooh maybe 4 days so I could watch them all in one go! Lmbo 😋 Won't happen, but it's fun to dream. 🤪haha
Ara, your Talent is just jaw dropping AH'mazing!! I can not thank you enough for posting all of your videos for the world to see! Bless you sweet sweet young lady! ❤ 💚💛💞❣🥰
Your friend Patti
P.S. There's sooo much more to say... lol, but I'll stop this already gushing comment. 🤣❤
It needs to be one that just has easy work to do on it. Like something that just needs some painting done on it. That way way I’m not wasting any time.
Great idea! I did laundry and dishes during some of the dry times too ;)
Bentley House Minis -Yep, we women are great at multitasking! My kids are all grown and my daughters are great multitakers, and my oldest son is also. I think he learned how to do it when he was a stay-at-home dad for three years. It was all new to him but he was really good at it.
This creation of yours is one of the most astonishing. It really looks that it is made of metal. Amazing! ❤
Thank you so much Paola!😊
@@BentleyHouseMinis Thanks a lot to you for sharing your art and talent ❤
Since last Friday I've been watching your old videos, the whole Addam's saga is just astonishing. And I'm currently watching all your streams- the Fairfield struggles and everything else. Countless hours of great entretaiment.
I love what you do and you are such a good teacher. It's a pleasure to watch everything you do with so much passion and love.
The spiral staircase is amazing, once again another great project. The books are intriguing, there are so many clever people out there.
I can’t wait for the next project, until next time stay safe.
Thank you Paula! I agree and that's why I feel so blessed to own each and every book!
Beautiful!
The stairs are inspiring and the books are fabulous! Well done. Your channel is grand.
What a great idea! I ordered some fancy fans myself. I think they'll make great decorative window shutters for my fantasy town.
Aloha ! Pure genius. Thank you.
Gorgeous.
This looks like the staircase from Casper the friendly ghost!
Thank you for sharing your process! This took some real problem solving skills! I had to make several mock-ups when I made my stairs for the tree stump I’m working on.
This looks fabulous!
Thank you so much! These would be great for a stump!
Ara, how wonderful this project is. You have amazing ideas. Thank you for sharing them with us x
Thank you so much! I appreciate it!
Very informative and entertaining. Can't wait until we can visit again and I can see this in person. Great job sweetie!!
Thank you❤❤
The staircase is a work of art Ara! It just looks so authentic; I realise it took you ages but the result is amazing and you should be so proud of what you created.
Thank you Hazel💖💖
WOW...that is all. Just WOW.
I just received my fans and I'm excited to start mine
Definitely! Its usually those processes that feel like the take "forever" that turn out the best ;) lol!
Abstract beautiful!!!
Hemp rope is whats used on ships. Love it
Thanks for the info! I will do some research ;)
This was absolutely incredible!! I must have said "WOW" a hundred times!! The steps came out fantastic, they really look like metal!! Great job!!
Thank you so much!!😊
I love watching your videos, I joined a little late to the Captains Quarters fun.
Oh Ara, you have outdone yourself on this project!!!! Just absolutely stunning!!!!
Thank you my friend! I am so glad you like it!
The scrap pieces of the fan would make nice straight stairs or faux air vents.
This staircase is awesome! It definitely looks like metal. Thank you!
Thank you Karen! So glad you like it!
You are so amazingly talented. I love all the projects you are doing and have done...thank you so much for sharing! I have learned so much from you.
Tu fais vraiment de la magie ! C'est extraordinaire.
Red would be great to match the bed covers ;) I will have to experiment! And thanks for confirming my head space suspiscions👍
This is wonderful! I'm tempted to take out the spiral staircase in the first house I restored and "fix it" with some of your techniques. Thank you! It looks amazing.
Thank you Rachael! I am glad the techniques will be helpful if you decided to try it out!
I love the look of the aged gold.
Thank you Erin!
Wow amazing work keep it up love the details
Thank you so much😊
So creative. Wonderful idea share! :)
