    What would you go with? Plug-in hybrid or EV? SUV or minivan?

    The reason it doesn't have remote start is because it has remote climate control. It doesn't need to start in order to use climate control, which is the main reason people use remote start. So, if you want to warm it up or cool it down before driving, you can just activate remote climate control, and you're good to go.

    Just watching this very enjoyable review despite living next to a bus stop with 6 lines running by for commuters while I work from home...
    I'm just here for the vibes, man

    Thanks for covering the range info without as much unnecessary info as other reviewers. Hope you get more views especially with the dearth of content for the PHEV CX-90.

    So many cars and SUV's that I sit in have an intrusive center console that hits my knee (I'm only 5'8!) It always seems like it’s not the width of the transmission tunnel, but an overly styled console that serves no purpose being that wide. Isn’t the first mission of interior room to make the driver comfortable? Don’t they have test groups that try out these cars before production? Anyway, a very thorough review you gave.

    Ethan, I like the wagon profile, if you fold down the two back rows can it carry a Miata? 🤔

    Is the Navigation SD card comes in with the GT model? I checked in Mazda site they're like $600+ 😬. It'll look cheap if you have the highest trim yet when you scroll it'll say insert SD card in your info system. I know no one use Mazda's nav but it'll still feel incomplete being the highest trim and for the price of the vehicle. lol

    You’re right, a PHEV could be a good option for some people to try out EVs. From my experience with a regular EV, the biggest joy they may notice is how nice it is to go a full month without stopping at a gas station.

    The paints that mazda charges for are 3 stage paints, including this pearl white. The paints without charge are 2 stage.

    It definitely takes more than overnight to charge on level 1, but that’s ok for me. I don’t need a full charge to get to work and at work, there’s a level 2!

    Would love it if they could nail a smaller suv size. These vehicles are just so enormous, and I’m my mind, if you want to haul 7 people then maybe buy a van

    The design does not change and is always similar and the same.
    Change is needed, but the designer is too stubborn.

    Holy shit... Do I spy an Apple IIc in the background at 3:28??? I'm flying out there if you've got Frogger, Moon Patrol, or Oregon Trail on floppy! hahaha
    Going to agree with a lot of the comments here on the size of this thing... I'm very confused by the car market these days... in the early 2000's no one could afford gas and ditched their giant SUVs and Hummers for economy shitboxes. Somewhere between now and then everyone decided they needed to drive a school bus? I literally watched a guy do a 4 point turn to pull his "bro-dozer" into a parking space the other day. It's absurd.
    Unless I work construction or some other profession that would necessitate a full-size crew cab truck, or I convert to Mormonism and have 10 kids, I don't see the day to day need for something the size of a CX-90. I'm more than content with the size of my Typhoon. I can't understand why the compact truck and car market has been completely phased out... I don't have to take my shoes off to count how many times I've needed a giant land boat in the last 5+ years. Yet I see everyone driving these monstrous cars they really don't need.
    I had a Mazda Protege 5 for almost 10 years and put well over 200,000 miles on it. Solid car, never had a problem with it. I would've bought another Mazda, but I really do not like the giant hood and grill with the sloped roof and squashed rear end. They've run this look long enough and it's time for a redesign. I also agree that they need to stop trying to break into the luxury market... err at least under the name Mazda. Nissan and Toyota get away with it by using Infinity and Lexus.... Mazda is going to have to go that route to be taken seriously... err at least if they want to warrant the price tag of their luxury competitors. Throw this PHEV tech in a Mazda 3 or even a CX-5 with a good design refresh and I might consider another Mazda... until then, PASS. That's my 2¢.

      Haha yes! I've got a few old games for the IIc but haven't fired up the machine in a while. I should probably do that!
      Regarding increasing vehicle size. US fuel economy rules have exemptions for “light trucks”, and that regulatory loophole makes trucks and SUVs easier and cheaper to build. Profit margins are generally higher for larger vehicles, so automakers and dealers have learned to push them on buyers.
      I think there may also be a shift occurring in terms of cars as status symbols-it seems like fewer people are willing to be seen in cheap or basic cars. There is this idea that everyone deserves a luxury SUV, even if they can’t afford one.
      People also often buy vehicles for edge cases-one might buy a 3-row SUV even if they’re only using the 3rd row once or twice a year. The rest of the time they’re simply lugging around extra weight and size, and they could’ve just rented a van for those few times they needed extra space.
      And unfortunately all of this is an arms race. The more people choose larger cars, the less safe people in small cars will feel. So they may eventually move up to a larger car to compensate.I think maybe a good place to begin to fix this is to lose the fuel economy loophole for trucks. 🤷‍♂️
      And yes, no idea why Mazda hasn't thrown the PHEV tech in a CX-5 yet!

    I wonder where people are going in cars thats less than 3 miles? Is it just entirely down to how hostile a lot of suburbs are to walking?
    I live in a food desert now but i used to have a grocery store in walking distance. I guess i can see how those trips would stack up if you're unwilling or unable to cross the stroads in the mile between you and the nearest stores.

    • @HelloRoad
      @HelloRoad  4 месяца назад +2

      Yeah I'd guess a lot of this comes down to how unpleasant and dangerous it is to walk in many suburban/urban environments. It's been bad for so long in much of the US that walking is often not considered, even if a trip is extremely short.
      I usually ride my bike to the supermarket (2 mile round trip) but even for just those 2 miles it's incredibly unsafe, mainly because of wide roads, high speed limits, and generally oblivious drivers. If it were pleasant, safe, and convenient, a lot more people would consider it.

    If I hear another person say “A 3 row SUV is not supposed to be fun to drive” I am going to🤮.
    No one says that about a BMW or Mercedes, no one says that about a Dodge Durango R/T (That this PHEV matches or exceeds 0-60 and in the 1/4 mile) or Durango SRT. Heck, no one says that about an Acura MDX… but for the CX-90 it isn’t supposed to be fun to drive. Give me a break. These types of reviews are killing this vehicle.

    • @HelloRoad

    mazda honestly needs to stop trying to go up market. honestly. its not working for them imo

    • @Weaseltube
      @Weaseltube 4 месяца назад

      When did Mazda try to go upmarket recently? The CX-9 was simply upsized, not upmarket. They haven't had a 929 / Millenia in their range for decades. Even the RX-7/8 has been gone over 10 years. And those were sporty upmarket, of course. Not luxury. And their aborted Amati luxury brand is THREE decades old!
      But their top line models have always been well received.
      Besides, they kind of don't have a choice. As one of the smallest big-brand manufacturers remaining, they will forever be playing catch-up to the others if they have to rely only on margins of midrange cars. The volume isn't there.

    • @kcm732
      @kcm732 4 месяца назад

      @Weaseltube then they need do focus on volume, their brand name simply doesnt have the cashé. they went wrong after they went to their current design language if i needed to pick a jump off point for them.
