      Cheers Simon, there’s an incredible amount of freight traffic coming out of the quarries at the moment, I believe HS2 might have something to do with the increase.

    Another great film Andrew, thanks for producing and putting up. Coincidentally, just back from a short break with family to the Peak District. I managed a coiple of early morning trips to Peak Forest and like you, was amazed at the volume of freight moving around.
    I had to back to the Airbnb by 08.00 (otherwise family would have disowned me!) so was a bit limited to search out locations, however will head back there at some point in the future as there's so many great places to photograph.

      It's a pleasure Andy, I know what you mean, sneaking off whilst on holiday! Yes I was amazed at the volume of traffic first thing on a morning through Peak Forest, a great location for a holiday and railway photography.

      I’d thoroughly recommend it, there’s an enormous amount of traffic coming out of there at the moment, I believe a lot is for HS2.

      Do some research on train timings, early morning and evening looks very busy, search Peak Forest Signal Box on Real Time Trains.

    Thanks not only for sharing that footage/stills but the ideas for lineside locaions - much appreciated. Have searched over the years all sorts of places in Scotland and Salisbury-Exeter and other sections of line but not yet tried the Peak District. Late winter/early spring looks ideal as less foliage to get in the way. Thanks again.

      Glad it was helpful! April tends to be a great month, we've got over the winter cold and it can have some pleasant weather, plus the trees haven't come into leaf yet, an added bonus on our increasingly treed up railway.

    Great video. Many cold mornings spent up there with my dad in the 90s. Fortunately the traction was a little more interesting back then with double headed 37s with a banker on the back

    Great video, I m a amateur photographer and since i moved to buxton just over a year ago iv become very interested in freight train photography but could never find good spots over than . Learning alot from this video.

    Excellent video again, really enjoyed this one, I used to drive similar trains out of Westbury, so a great reminder of those days. I’m starting to guess when you take the photo, love your style.

      Yes Andrew they are very familiar, if you do get down there, there’s some great views over Merehead and Whatley quarries. Also Westbury will have its chalk White horse as a backdrop. We used to call ourselves Limestone Cowboys .. 😂

      Thanks Dan, I bend images if the conditions dictate, mostly evening and low light work is blended, this gives me the opportunity to stop the train generally with a high ISO value, then take another shot at a longer exposure and low ISO, blended later in photoshop. most of the shots in daytime as in this video aren’t blended, just processed in Lightroom.

    Great stuff Andrew, I went there recently and was surprised how busy it was. Certainly plenty of opportunities to see freights compared to the Boulby branch in Tees 🤣

      When watching RUclips railway videos I always keep Bing Maps open in a separate tab, it offers a free Ordnance Survey view, understandably not bang up to date but plenty good enough for most purposes.

      Thanks Mark, the numbers are the camera EOS-R, Lens RF 24-105mm, then Shutter Speed 1/500, Aperture f8.0 and ISO. So camera and camera settings.

    grate videos Andrew my only gripe you shoot locos thay are good dissidence a way the loco and land scape look better when locos a close up shot of the locos and land close up from dissidence other than that grate video andrew

    Hello again, i m just rewatching the video. 2.38 in you say your waiting for a sudden freight train. How did you know it was coming? Is there a app? Also did you know there a place near buxton station where the freight come into a siding where they move to the other end of the freight. Its great seeing them come over the fire ducts in buxton.

      Thanks Matt, there’s a couple of Websites that I use, Realtime Trains www.realtimetrains.co.uk and Railcam www.railcam.uk. I did see the siding where the freights engines run around the train and the viaduct through Buxton does look a super spot, I must get back over there at some point.

      Hello, thanks for the comment, if you look on google maps and follow the A6 south out of Buxton, you’ll come to Chee Dale Lay-by, from here you can see the tunnel and Tunstead works in the distance, there’s also a decent shot almost from the lay-by if you want.

    Hi Andrew, huge fan of your channel and this video is brilliant as I not only take railway photos but also am a modeller and have a stone railhead, so this subject hit the mark. Thank you. A question if I may, did you research on an OS map for which footpaths to use? Rob

      Thanks Rob, glad you enjoyed it. I'm generally always planning and looking at locations, I use OS Maps, Google Maps, sun position calculator apps and looking at other photographers work. All to build up a list of locations I'd like to visit. On this one though I was guided by a local photographer.

      Thanks very much, yes, that footbridge over Tunstead Works is a public Footpath so there’s no problems.

    Great film but why do you stop shooting when the train is only 4-5 wagons in? Seeing the whole rake is half the point surely...

      Many thanks, I take your point but its a compromise between lingering too long on a train and keeping the pace of the video going, it's always going to be tricky to strike the balance.
