How you can make something sound so good with just a simple drum pattern and a single modulated saw wave is mindblowing!
Getting tired on those dark techno play in berghain like industrial-techno, acid techno, or aggro-techno. Now this dub-techno along with funky detroit techno is what i need, thank you
So true :) I love these chords, melodic and also dreamy elements.
The moment delay n reverb enters..that vibe😍
Makes me moan every time
Its impressive how a single chord can carry through a hole song when used right i really love this
The track made in this tutorial is my favorite dub techno track ever.
Glad you like it! I hope it inspires you to make your own.
What I actually liked most of this video, the fact that you know exactly what you are doing. Great job!
Glad you liked it!
Once that bass kicked in, I was bobbing uncontrollably. Sounds awesome!
Cheers dude! I should do some live studio sessions soon aye.
man, the best dub techno tutorial out there. I even discovered insane Ableton settings i didnt know about. Thanks
Glad you found it helpful!
Nice way to roll it out man, sound design on the chord is great.
Dub techno in a nutshell: Put a tape delay on a minor triad sawtooth synth, auto filter that synth, use a 909 kick and a field recording based hi-hat, put a rain sample over the whole mix, extend this pattern until it lasts 20 minutes. Boom, you have a dub techno track.
Just joking. I love dub techno.
Accurate! No need to fix what isn’t broken. 🖤
@@Algonaut exactly :)
Good recipe. Simple is beautiful
absolutely slamming instrument rack to add to my ableton, thanks bud!
Enjoy!
Most helpful/accessible video I've seen on creating this vibe. Thanks for the inspiration 👍
Great tutorial. I love those dub techno chords , could listen to them forever, really psychedelic :-)
i like how it goes from ok to very nice at 4.15.
The moment that sub-bass kicks in. Boom. Amazing.
I really enjoyed learning some ways to configure Massive , and also great way of explaining the Dub Chord which you created.
Great tutorial! Thank you very much.
I've been looking for ages on how to build that chord sound. Thank you very much sir.
You're welcome. :)
Great tutorial on my fave genre of all time. Sounded amazing!! Chur

You made me fall in love wih producing all over again! Blessed🙏
That was so sick. Thanks for sharing

That Chords Sounds Amazing ❣❣❣
Quality tutorial! Thanks for the help.
Thank for ur time
best dub deep demo, just amazing.
fantastic work man!!!!
Tip, for anyone who's very new to this. I came to these kind of tutorials always thinking I needed the same synths, but it's helpful to use a different one so that your ears do more work instead of just copying teacher. So I just recreated this sound using Helm Synth, saving 200 bucks and getting a good enough result. Synthesis starts out looking complicated but the basic principles aren't.
This is 100% true. The principles are the same on most synths. I would say you'll learn even more by doing it this way, recreating a sound from 1 synth on a different one. It doesn't have to be exactly the same end result.
Just perfect!
This is more than perfect. I’m not coming from the techno scene but it is incredible to see how you can put things together with just a few sounds and still can create something interesting. Thank you for this tutorial
Thank’s a lot for the share !!!
For me ''The BEST'' Out There!!!!!
Atlas is simply an amazing tool 👍👍👍👍
this is incredible! great tutorial thank you!
Cheers mate!
thanks for teaching me how to make this magic sound. I've been trying to find how to make this sound before I even made music.

This is Techno ASMR 😍👍
great tutorial. thanks for sharing!
Would be nice to see how you would approach making drums that sound rhythm and instead of "computer drums" / "sampled library" drums
wwwooooo niceeeeee!!!
I really have to say thank you very much for this tutorial! You really helped me with the understanding of the basics of synthesizers and ableton tools - its incredible and inspiring how easy you deal with the different controls, exactly knowing what effect they have - I guess I have a long way to go. I'd be interested where you got your knowledge from - please don't tell me that you read the manual.
Experimenting, RUclips and some forums taught and teaches me everything.
Subscribed! =)
Thanks - super video, still a year later! Really have to explore ATLAS a bit deeper - seems to be a decent tool to organize your samples, right? Kind regards Thomas
This was the most clear and concise dub techno tutorial so far that i can ACTUALLY apply straight away! Thank you for this. Random question- i see people talking about a frequency level/hertz etc with filters and synths. Is there a sort of ballpark high and low for ambient dub, or is it more just doing it by ear?
It's really just all about doing it by ear. Especially with Dub Techno it's about dynamic range. The music looping is generally quite dark and you save the big bright frequencies for things you want to come in and grab attention, but then let them fade back out again. Gotta give these things space. 🖤
Like!!
sounds like dub techno to me : )
"obviously not that much, its not EDM" ;)
Amazing tutorial mate, thanks a lot
Incredible great tutorial !!! Where did you get the samples from? In my Argonaut 2 the names are just like "Algo Hat Open 025" or something
These specific samples are from Atlas 1. Unfortunately because of licensing we can't include them in the Atlas 2 release, Atlas 2 has 1,500 new samples.
very nice. i am not familiar with that sidechain thing ...otherwise i pretty understood all
use swing, my friend. I do suggest 👌
Nice. Thanks. Would you also show about minimal house. Micro house
Yeah i think im doing a micro house tutorial next!
@@Algonaut greaaat. Looking forward:) thanks
Getting Brickman vibes bruh, great basic framework and explanation.
Is anybody did release some tracks on dub labels after this tutorial? I think its possible.
Great . The name of the drum plug in?
Atlas. This is all Atlas 1, we now have Atlas 2.
one question... the effects on the instrument is not bad for the mix ?
Which fx? All the delay and verb? I probably over did it, as by the time you start adding more parts it might need to be dialed back, but it shouldn't affect the mix so long as it isn't too washed out or add low mud that might compete with the low end. I doubt it though.
hey dude! make progressive house!
Why do you put those ghost notes in? :)
Dunno lol. Sounded good at the time. A bit of variation adds a lot to drums accross your project. It should be subtle enough that you don't really think about it, but a change from the constant 4x4
13:50 "obviously not that much, its not edm" lmao
excuse me, what did the cat want at 2:17?
i'm sorry to say that but original dub hasn't any ping pong delays in it
Massive & the like £$,s are not the only synths you need to make dub techno. The same results can be achieved using synths/effects etc that are available for free This is why so many dt tracks sound the same. Try to use your imagination..Oh yeah, make your own samples.
"everyone has massive" lmao fk off mate lol all love tho great tutorial
Haha fair call! It was a little more true 4 years ago when this video was made, but not really today with Pigments, PhasePlant, and the other cool synths out there. Same techniques applies to them all though. :)
@@Algonaut girl idek what those r im not paying for synths, but great video thank you
This isn’t dub techno! Listen to Quantec or Basic Channel.... or Scion or Substance... that’s dub techno. I find this stuff more like slow trance.
This video is intended to teach beginners the basics of making a dub techno-y track. Using this knowledge you can easily build on it and create what you would call "real" dub techno.
Nice vid on the sounds but why is the musical knowledge of bedroom producers so bad? A basic triad of 1,3, 5 is not what you had. That is a major triad. You never mentioned you flattened the third making it a minor triad (which also gives it that distinct dub techno sound). More misinformation confusing people. Sheesh!
Are you sure?? Ive personally always thought of it as the first, 3rd and 5th note in the 8 notes of the minor scale. Online docs do say a minor triad is the root, minor third and perfect fifth. Granted I'm not classically trained (these days you certainly don't need to be lol) I did find when i was teaching local DJs in Auckland it was counter productive to give them too much info. So i was like "here are the notes in the minor scale' 'Now take the 1, 3, 5 and thats your basic minor triad.'
Spiderlab ...They’re bedroom producers (beginners)... that’s why - and there’s nothing wrong with that. You were once upon a time too... don’t forget that
From the video: "A basic triad is just your first, your third and your fifth note in the scale" From this, Algonaut is technically correct. He almost slipped up and said 1,3,5 instead, but did not.
Although you are correct that 1,3,5 of F is a major triad - that is not what was being talked about.
The first, third and fifth *scale degree* of the scale (F Minor) were in fact F Ab C - F Minor triad.
Great tutorial, thank you very much!
thank you for a good tutorial!
