What a memory, i was doing my apprenticeship , traveling on Newmans bus from Nelson to Christchurch for my block course in the 80s playing this song loud on the bus and all enjoyed ,its a great song, even years later i painted Crowded Houses place in Melbourne they had sold to Tim Slater but still had memories this being my fav Split Enz song

neil finn is a national treasure - creator of iconic songs, this being a prime example. Love the new wave feel and walking bass line. My late mother got me into split enz when i was single digits in the late 80s!
Masterpiece. I woke up at st pats boarding school in silverstream NZ every morning to this playing on the dorm loudspeaker. I'm in my mid 50s now and this takes me back to when I was just a lad at 13. The world was a simpler place then

This was the first album I ever bought, I got a tape from a little shop in orewa, it still sounds amazing today 💖💖💖I recently worked in Tim’s studio on a film,it’s such an incredible space, I can see why beautiful music comes from it,no matter who🤟🤟🤟the mixing desk with Keith Moons cigarette burn is priceless. Congratulations on amazing work.

Poor Tim, his little brother stole his band away from him. Tim did the hard yards, got the international recognition etc, Neil was just a better songwriter. That drum solo though, that rimshot snare is just a delight to hear.
“Stole?” That’s a bit harsh. To be fair, Tim departed to pursue his solo career, leaving the band in the capable hands of his “little brother” for a while, until pastures new beckoned. Ambitious lads and superb songwriters, the both of them, just for the record.
They are both brilliant.. Richard and Mary created great Kiwis.. I'm proud of them and the music of our country often predominant on the songs.. very patriotic felt by many Kiwis.. thanks niel and Tim and the enz.
Sorry, there's no way that Six Months in A Leaky Boat, Crosswords, Haul Away, Never Ceases To Amaze Me, Poor Boy or I See Red are not as good as what Neil did.

Hard to pick a fav between the Split Enz or Crowded House versions
Both versions feel appropriate for the two bands. The Enz one definitely has a melancholy 'goodbye' feeling to it though.
