Absolutely love everything about this intro. None of this would ever fly on US TV, but I learned how being humble and grounded meant so much to Aussies and Kiwis when I lived and loved in Brisbane in the late 90s.
About a year ago I started listening to their music... and though I like many types of music I never could say I had a favorite band but now I think I can safely say Split Enz is my favorite. I like the eccentricity and how their music seems to be like if the Beatles had continued making music into the synth pop/new wave era lol It is fantastic.
I fell in love with them in the early 80's as a teenager via MTV (The United States of America). I have followed the Finns ever since. I'm so glad you have discovered and have grown to love them, too.
I rarely do this but I sincerely appreciate what you wrote about yourself and your love for my music that shows that you are really a nice person to be with in person.. where are you streaming from,?
I , as an American, think that you Aussies and Kiwis should tell all all American artists to #$ off and not play, buy or download a single one of our shit artists until the Finn Brothers, Crowded House, and Split Ends get into the Rock n Roll HOF. Get organized and get it done please. This is one of the greatest musical collaborative groups in the entire world and the crap they has proceeded in getting in before these immortal geniuses. So please get it done and do it loud!!!
YES!!! Love this! How sweet their Dad is..as of this date I believe their Dad is still with us!! Thanks for posting this lovely video! Beautiful harmonies..brings tears to my eyes!!
Well I've stumbled across this on a gorgeous summers day in Maraetai Auckland on Wednesday 16th Dec My parents have their 50th wedding anniversary this weekend the Americas cup starts tomorrow and there's a possibility a cyclone headed our Xmas eve and oh the rest of the world is in a pandemic I feel so fortunate to have been born in NZ!
I miss early Enz too... However, I don't miss Judd muddying up the waters with his photography... Having met ALL the original members, I find it tainted.
My understanding was that it was Noel Crombie who was responsible for the colourful clothing and hairstyles.I saw the Enz in 1973 when they were the Ends & have never missed Phil Judd.
Parents of that era, would think that being in a band was not a "proper" job. The struggle paid off, and dad was proud. My sister went to Art College, and even though my dad was old school, he never objected.
@@deletebilderberg Both Tim & Neil wrote some excellent songs.Having both brothers gave them two songwriters and much more strength than placing all the weight on one.
Great band. By the time they were well known they had changed a bit so their creative peak early on went a bit unheralded. Always cracked up when they were on countdown. Great songs and funny dudes
The saddest thing is None of the real fans would have got to see this live. Would have been prominent businessmen and and the Social butterflies in upperclass auckland
No surprise...Tim took charge and Niel just looked on in wonder... what is it with these boys??? Artistic difference... like them both.,.. musically... Niel is winning
could be cause the host introduced Niel as "does not need to be introduced" and introduced Tim as "most loved figure in New Zealand goodness, ,,u'd look off too
I spent 2 days in Aukland and got in a fight with some local kids over who got to play a video game at the arcade. Old timey problems is what that are.
Hands up all (and I have photos of) those who were at the sound check for the Millennium shows, (live, handmade poster, too) of those special few who bluffed security (despite family and PG looking on) to stay for the sound check because "we came from England...". December '99. Remember clinging to the metal stairs, (across the road after being kicked out of the sound check but determined not to miss anything), while TF went through the soundcheck for PB? Remember him not hitting the high notes?? Remember everyone commenting that he didn't hit the high notes???? Do you also remember that for both concerts, Tim was the consummate professional and hit all the effing notes in all the songs, especially PB?? It's like he was playing with us 😂😂
Isn't the internet great now vs 2007? Upload straight to your fans - way more people can see it easily - and you don't suffer John Campbell in the process.
A moment for all those who didn't know History Never Repeats from the first few notes. I wouldn't either - especially a live rendition and you just said guess the frickin song with no clues. Shame they couldn't both reach the high notes for the chorus climax of just vocals like the radio version. Best bloody part mate.
Best NZ band ever. Tim’s voice is magic.
Absolutely!
“She speaks to me in Ultra High Frequency”
They still got it.
I love you guys.
Absolutely love everything about this intro. None of this would ever fly on US TV, but I learned how being humble and grounded meant so much to Aussies and Kiwis when I lived and loved in Brisbane in the late 90s.
I agree. Kiwis and Aussies are mostly grounded people, who cut through the crap with honesty.
It wouldn't fly with the producers and executives. The audience would appreciate it though.
RIP Richard Finn. Love the harmonizing tune with Tim & Neil with dad smiling
I wish it was longer.... such a unique and timeless sound... bless them all.

My first concert ever...I was 12. 1981. Forever in my heart. Their talent is amazing. Loved Crowded House as well. ❤❤
I fell in love with them in the early 80's as a teenager via MTV (The United States of America). I have followed the Finns ever since. I'm so glad you have discovered and have grown to love them, too.
I love the song choices for this performance. Fan from America since they started.
Love the Finn brothers.... They are brilliant.
From Ayrshire Scotland. Love these Talented sons of New Zealand.🏴🇭🇲🇬🇧
I was 18 & living in Montreal when i first heard this. I still, to this day listen to "I got you..."
wow! you know you're a top musician when you are comfortable enough to say "there was a great gig lurking in there..." about Led Zeppelin. :D
So lucky to grow up with Split Enz and actually see them in Perth playing in the 70’s...pure awesomeness...mega thank yous🙏🙏🙏
Eddie Rayner is the man.

RIP Sir Richard Finn. Thank you for the treasures, the Finns, you have left and may your spirit live on.
I rarely do this but I sincerely appreciate what you wrote about yourself and your love for my music that shows that you are really a nice person to be with in person.. where are you streaming

As an American I count myself as lucky having seen them here in 1982. Great show. My gavorite was Pioneer / Six Months.

Poor Boy: decades old and still doesn’t sound outdated. That’s when you know you’re dealing with a masterpiece. Tim and Neil still look youthful!

Great fun. I do miss Phil Judd and the crazy makeup and clothing. Live the Finn Bros.
I miss early Enz too... However, I don't miss Judd muddying up the waters with his photography... Having met ALL the original members, I find it tainted.

But Tim was the genius.

must be 2007 if Neil's "just seen Led Zeppelin"
No surprise...Tim took charge and Niel just looked on in wonder... what is it with these boys??? Artistic difference... like them both.,.. musically... Niel is winning

poor boys look at their suits
Uz "Campbell Live" a New Zooland show on telly? They should have dressed him in denim, he's trying to be so cool.
As an American I can't tell the difference between a English, Australian, or New Zealand accent. You might as well be all the same people to me.
What do you think we make of Americans vs Canadian accents???
It’s all in how each of them says ‘Fish and Chips’ 😉
Hands up all (and I have photos of) those who were at the sound check for the Millennium shows, (live, handmade poster, too) of those special few who bluffed security (despite family and PG looking on) to stay for the sound check because "we came from England...". December '99.
