1984 ... I’m thinking that by then Neil already had his sights on the main prize - and rightfully so. He would have had a justifiable confidence in himself as a songwriter and I’m guessing he pretty much knew the way forward (at that time) to what would become Crowded House. I mean, nobody can see the future, but Neil was one of a rare breed who knew the best way forward.
@@unclecrips Crowded House were a pop band, who had a couple of ok songs. They may have sold more records than Split Enz but I’d rather listen to old Enz songs anyday over Crowded House.
Intriguing to have 29 years of perspective considering the incredible music Neil and Tim have created since this interview. The Finn Brothers , Crowded House and solo careers have produced some of the best tunes the world has known. Thanks for the upload!!!
I remember them (well, long before then)...I watched this clip years ago..you could cut the tension between them with a dull knife!! This would have been around the time when ole Timmeh would have been cavorting around with Grets!! Oh to be young & full of yourself!!!! LOL LOL
Rod was a great interviewer. Always knowledgeable about the band’s music and history and asking intelligent questions. Hope he’s doing well. I have a few of his Enz interviews uploaded.
I agree with the candor. It's rather refreshing, they aren't afraid to admit they want to be successful. But watching them here, I sense Tim is excited by his solo success and Neil is ready to do something apart from his big brother.
This is such a weird interview. Where were they? There's traffic going by, and this weird ambient Charlie's Angels/mall music. At one point, Tim is about to make a major comment, counting off on his hand, and he's interrupted. Would love to know what he was about to say. And what happened to that musical he was writing?!
Yes! I have so many questions! 😂 Things are really awkward, from the very start the interviewer put Neil offside, saying they were the notorious Finn brothers…what? Why?🙄 Where the hell are they standing?? Outside someone’s block of flats? I vaguely remember this guy’s voice from radio back then, what was his name?
Gld you liked it. Interesting that you note the body language. Somebody else mentioned that to me once (thinking they were out of sorts with each other that day). I hadn't noticed anything at all, but I'm your stereotypical dumb male. I was too busy being impressed with their candor towards success and not apologizing for chasing it.
True inspirational brothers always had fun and made their fans happy and still do now in 2023, both amazing
Great interview. It's interesting reading Neil and Tim's body language as they speak. Thanks for posting this!
Finn Bros are loved in UK. Such a unique and remarkable songwriting duo!
Yep. Never miss them when they play Glasgow.
Yeah, and elsewhere.

Split Enz were twice the band Crowded House ever were.

Let's face it. Neil brought the band to the success they finally achieved.
@@blancobasnett Please don't compare the great Finn Brothers to those two drunken clowns.
These guys - all the Enz members - are legends 🙏🙏

Love the talented Finn brothers xo
OMG - Rod!

Dang Neil got fired up, yo

How ironic to call them commercial when they were one of the most creative bands ever. They took huge risks into non commercial territory.
Baby faces!!!❤❤

I believe it's called Muzak.

Tim doesn't laugh very much, does he?
He did struggle with depression. That is what "i hope i never" is all about, not a relationship with a girl
awkward... like interviewing you and your girlfriend after a breakup..
