I've noticed that at least for Finns (I guess maybe for Swedes & other Scandinavians too) the MyHeritage test is most useful when it comes to matches. Some years back MH did a lot of advertising in Finland and genetic genealogy really became more popular here, and so MH is definitely the most worth it if you want to see a lot of matches. On Ancestry I've got around 250 matches, a couple thousand on 23andMe, about 7,000 on FTDNA and nearly 50,000 on MH.
I’m a Swedish Finn American who tested with 23&me. Most of my matches are Finnish 2nd to 4th and distant cousins. I think I’ll test with MH too. My mother came from Germany but I get no close matches that I recognize.
@@loislewis5229 That's normal for Germans. My boyfriend is born, raised and with all his family staying in Germany since centuries but he only gets very distant matches (5th-9th cousins) from the US in Ancestry. In Myheritage he got better matches, some 3th-4th cousins but nothing close as 2nd cousins. Unfortunately, the Germans are very skeptical and do not trust DNA test companies. That's why you almost don't get matches from there.
Agreed, I have substantiallly more Finnish matches than anything else on MyHeritage. I don't like their admixtures (which are totally wrong - it reads all my German ancestry as English, which is not in my tree and none of the other companies read it that way) but their tools are good and their matches are very good.
I have a Finnish grandmother and I have 34% according to Ancestry (my mom tested as well and she came out 50% exactly, which is what we expected.) I just inherited quite a bit more of that side than average. If he was supposed to be half Finnish then I doubt he'd get so low - Finnish results seem to be very accurate. I'd bet his mom is only half-Finnish.
Not my humour either, what you said at the beginning about finnish ancestry. One set of My wife's maternal great grand parents were from Finland and her My Heritage results are 24.9% so pretty spot on My Heritage and she has about 31k matches in total and over 15k of those are in Finland (and taking into account the population of Finland and the % of people who take a DNA specifically on My Heritage I joke if she ever visits Finland the moment she gets off the plane she can probably start saying Hi Cousin and odds are she'll be right.
Urgh this guy is annoying Considering Ancestry now split Scandinavia in Sweden & Denmark and Norway I would say that North-Western Europe is probably all just Sweden & Denmark at this point. Yeah MyHeritage sure is where all the Swedes are , my Ancestry matches starts at 111 cM , my results on MyHeritage starts at 1958 cM (a half-sibling) and all the first page and a bit is people close, but the first I don't know who it is is on 284,9 cM so yeah MyHeritage is where you want to go for Scandinavian matches
My father’s family all came from Finland going back to the 17th century, yet I am only 17% Finnish according to 23&me. I’m mostly Swedish and German (my mother). I think I’ll try My Heritage 😊
I was excited when this started because I've just recently started watching your videos but also for the last couple of days I've been binge watching a lot of videos about Finland and the Finnish language. It's funny because I'm sure it's all stereotypes, but several of the videos go on about how Finns stick to themselves and don't readily make new social connections. Funny how he shot off a message so quickly, but in reality, didn't do it in a way that was liable to create any meaningful connection with a close relative. There aren't really any sound conclusions to be drawn from this, it's just what passed through my brain.
Anomaly and Papanomaly also made a follow-up video with 23andme. But there they really go more into their health and only partially over their ancestry
I sometimes wonder if italians are closer to iberians or to greek ..most gene sites place italy with greece and iberia is spanish and portugese! Also itaian and greek seem to get anatolia levatine iran mesoptmia etc and iberia doesnt get that but some n african.. So the 3 south euro regions have diff stuff in them
Waiting my dna results from MyHeritage at the moment. Through the paper trail I have managed to find ancestries from 15th century. And although I am quite Finnish, at this point, as we have been quite small population I was glad to find any ancestry coming from sweden, denmark or german (of course, from these regions we now call by these names). My grandfathers father immigrated to USA after 1915. Do you think Ancestry could help discovering if I have any relatives in USA better than MyHeritage?
I did 3 tests: MyHeritage, 23andme and MyAncestry, but most matches of my family are in MyHeritage and I am European (Dutch). They are slightly confused about Germanic and Scandinavian. My grandma was strange because she had random 1.1% Finnish 😂 but none of us has that. I had no scandinavian in 23andme and in MyHeritage but I do in Myancestry quite a bit. 23andme showed either 100% European in my family or small amounts of Coptic Egyptian, North African or Levantine. With the matches its funny because I recognise the surnames that are in my family tree so I know they are indeed family although I dont know them personally. Some of them moved to Canada or US after the WW2. My family never left. We literally didnt move even a province since 1400s 😂😂. I only found one German that moved to our country in 1830
I sure hope the mask isn't to stay anonymous, because his name is all over the video lol
Thats just his persona

As a Swede and Finn I'm embarrassed about this youtuber
Norwegians glad to see Finns and Swedes take another L
I share the same sentiment about him as you do. But you're a trooper & hung in there to the bitter end. 😀

I am 81.8% North western European and I am Dutch (mainly Germanic)

society, people i choose vary carefully who and how i act with in this life
I'd like to see what his updated results are. Ancestry has had many updates since 5 years ago.
Anomaly and Papanomaly also made a follow-up video with 23andme. But there they really go more into their health and only partially over their ancestry

For the US, Ancestry is better, since the database is bigger. However, I still love the tools of Myheritage, it makes working with DNA matches easier.
Red hair and blue eyes is the most rare combination.
The blondest person i ever seen got sweden and finland and the most ginger person got scottish 😂😮

Your testing with the 3 companies was all over the map 😅
