    I got 99% Scandinavian, and 1% from Papua New Guinea. I feel like either it’s incorrect or, if it’s true, it probably wasn’t a beautiful love story. I think people should that keep in mind when recieving their DNA test results while gushing about how ”exotic” they suddenly are.

    • @sykes2698
      @sykes2698 3 года назад +23

      MyHeritage uses tons of marketing trace results. Basically just random 1-3%'s of "exotic results" that create attractions for customers. So the 1% Papuan is almost certainly wrong.

      but this Papua New Guinean is the waay strangest Ive heard so far, very difficult to make sence of.

    In ancient times, the Mediterranean was a frog pond of Greeks. The Greeks had settled throughout the edges of nearly all the Mediterranean, from Greece, to Egypt to Spain to Italy to France to Asia minor etc etc. So it's no suprise that many Europeans will have a small percentage of greek in them. Why are people so suprised I will never know. You just have to open a historical book to realise this.

It listed Middle Eastern that I didn't realize was there. I figured there was Russian Jewish (Ashkenazi) and found out it was only about 5 or 6 generations back. Ben probably due to the minute percentage of Greek heritage, had some ancestors that went way back to the Roman empire of middle ages (Byzantine), where English Huscarls were employed as mercenaries (battle of Dyrrachium 1081) and some of them even established their own colony in Crimean peninsula, which was also populated by Greeks. Another possibility is that an ancestor escorted Lionheart's army to the invasion of Cyprus island and returned back home with woman and children. Fascinating, right? Kate seems to have some Jewish qualities I guess.

    • @wodenravens
      @wodenravens 5 лет назад +2

      @@futurez12 These results are not very accurate. My Heritage in particular is pretty notorious for throwing in false positives. Firstly, My Heritage is not the best for British (and Irish) ancestry; for that you should use LivingDNA as they use the largest sample size of modern British DNA and that makes their results more accurate (down to the county level). Also, these tests are not telling you where your ancestors are from; they are telling you the modern populations with which the DNA markers (alleles) are most commonly associated with. The DNA of English people in the west country is often much closer to Welsh, for example, than to DNA from Norfolk or Lincolnshire. Because My Heritage are not very good at picking up on these differences they seem to assign 'Irish, Scottish and Welsh' to people who are in fact English. Because they are merely looking for 'markers' of ethnicity, it is also very common for levels around 1-4% to be assigned to quite exotic ethnicities when in fact they are nothing of the sort. Many English people will carry genes that are associated with Ashkenazi Jews even though they have no Jewish ancestry. These kinds of tests see that ancestry and immediately assign you to that ethnicity as they regard it as a 'marker' of that ethnicity. In fact, you could just be an Englishman who carries an Askenazi Jew 'marker' within your DNA. It is very possible that the Iberian, Greek and Jewish results on this show are false positives. It is also very possible that they are accurate, but in my experience (I have done many of these tests) they often throw up false positives. They are pretty as a gimmicky bit of fun than serious science.

    I just had mine done and it’s turned my world upside down. I don’t have the ethnicity that matches the genealogy. I don’t know how I’ll ever find out the truth, as the older generations are all gone. I took it badly at first, very shaken, but I’m coming to terms with the fact. But not ever being able to find out the truth will be difficult. But the fun part is that I used to live in the UK and my dna has turned out to be mostly British and Irish! I’m not supposed to be, but there it is.

However, my dna results show me as being only 52% British, 11% Scandinavian, 15% French/German, 1% Iberian and 21% undefined North-Western European. Following successive raids into Britain by the Romans, Angles, Saxons, Normans etc, it would seem that there are probably very few English people that are 100% English. The Welsh are probably the most British as their communities were less exposed to foreign invasion. But yes, in summary, and in agreement with you, to be English is a mixture of many European influences. Strangely, your brother is more English than I am!!!

      Does it matter for two reasons. You are who your mother is. M a t h e r cause to be the agent mother the route the origin. The main cell cell dividing a canoe being pick your patter is really a donor of alternating DNA. Still more importantly. You're adopted you had someone care for and nurture your body into the best shape it can be. You had someone who raised you and helped hone in your skills. Someone who taught you and shared his wisdom with you. Your dad is more important than your donor

    What on earth has Cowboy boots got to do with DNA, your DNA and your lifestyle and heritage is not inherited, only genetic traits such as hair, eye colour etc...all the same, very interesting, curious to find out mine now.
