Grew up in Sunset Park. Ladder 114 was right near me. I remember that truck. It became a tower ladder a few years later. My neighbor worked in 114 back then. Great video.

Buffed FDNY in the 60s. Later to become a fire fighter ( not with FDNY). Great footage of the original home of the super pumper and tender. This house was located at 26 Hooper St. in the Williamsburg area of Brooklyn. Located in the same house was engine 211 and by the time 1970 came along, tower ladder 119. Also in the house was the super pumper’s commanders station wagon. This carried a portable manifold and maps of the NYC water system and pre-plans for water hookup’s that were most cable of supplying the super pumper. It also should be noted the prior to ladder 119 being a tower ladder it was home to one of the two 146 foot high reach straight stick aerial units. This two trucks were some of the first rear mounted non tiller aerials In the city. Most aerials of the day were American La France as pictured or Mack’s. They were either 85 or 100 ft tiller units. Also pictured was A “C” series conventional engine. If you look close you can see the booster hose reel at the center of the back step below the hose bed. This is the only era that FDNY engines had booster reels.

@@graydavid2681 Yes it was a mid 60s dodge station wagon. There were some Fords but most were dodge. This car was typical of all the battalion cars in the city. The FDNY shop’s affixed two brackets to the front bumpers. On the driver side a mechanical siren was mounted, and a bell was mounted on the passenger side. The pumper , tender and car were dispatched to every 3rd alarm in the city. There were also some area where commander’s automatically assigned the system on all second alarms. You seem to have access to several Super 8 films of Vintage FDNY. Thanks for posting them and do post more if you have them.

The wilks was later turned into a tugboat and now serves as one!
