In an effort to gain a better understanding on how to create 3D platformer controllers in Unity, we set out on a month long adventure to produce this love letter to Crash Bandicoot!

Played a good time with this and had a blast, the PS1 vibe is very on point, the controls are great, and I especially love the idea of the Uka Uka box, and had fun with the Crash Creator despite not really having level design creativity myself, would love to see a 3D editor in the future if it's possible, hoping to see more of this.
I really believe Crash can have the potential that Super Mario Maker had and probably still has today, I have such ideas for Bonus Stages, Prehistoric levels, Future levels etc.
@@crashmikey4296 yeah, its such a shame how the crash IP was passed on to numerous devs who have no clue what to do with the franchise.. Crash, Spyro and ofc Sonic had this identity crisis on what they really want to be by the late 2000s. Sonic's .. uhh.. *active* fanbase at least held on to believe sonic still got game. Crash fans like us.. well, its kinda bitter sweet. Spyro fans are the worst off though. Feel sorry for em
If only Crash had the same love and care that Mario got.. if, say Sony had their own dedicated studio back in the late PS1 - early PS2 days.. it wouldve still be relevant to this day just like how Mario is under the direct care of Nintendo

This is really good! It controls really well and I had a great time going through the main levels. This probably my favorite Crash fan game now and I'll probably finish up the extra stuff tomorrow.

Playing through it right now and I'm completely blown away. The level creator, the crash 2 hub, and the level design are beyond impressive. I downloaded this on a whim just looking for new stuff to play and this was a find for the ages.

Improve slide physics (when crash slides it's too fast)
Add progress save and a crate counter

I've played a small chunk of this game and I can safely say that you, sir, got huge talent.
You almost completely nailed the feel of the original games, believe me when I say that. I am not a completionist, but I know my fair share of Crash games, and this could easily be mistaken for a weird lost media game you could find in old cereal boxes.
Kudos to you, I really hope you continue growing as a developer!

About a year ago I made a *very* basic Crash Bandicoot clone as a school project (I’m talking an orange box as Crash and very floaty gravity)… it’s nothing compared to this lol

Great work on this, I played it and it was really fun, not overly difficult either and the boxes were placed fairly. The level editor is amazing. The only thing that's bad is the stairs that turn into slides, a bit wonky.

I've just had a dream Activision released three new PS1 Crash games, basically Crash 4,5 and 6. And they were basically what you would expect, new levels, new bosses, new characters, new mechanics, no stupid 200 gems and bullshit hidden crates or N-verted levels. I saw one of the levels and was incredibly excited, and then I woke up really sad, and now I see this.... this is literally a dream come true, this is AWESOME!

I did a playthrough of the game and I will upload a video of it in my channel. This was really cool, I hope to see updates soon!! There are some issues of course but those were expected and weren't game breaking.
Nice mod! Could this be possible to put relics in the 5 main levels? That would be awesome! Also I love how this game looks like an even more immersed version of Crash 2, it's just fantastic. Keep it up!
I really do miss these type of crash games after naughty dog left crash wasn't the same.
I love the fan game a lot. Its fun to see old Crash gameplay in widescreen, plus the addition of Crash Maker allows fans to make infinite replayable content.
If there's gonna be the possibility of a new update in the future, I would like to offer some feedback about gameplay movement and feel. Not a critique, just observations.
1. I think Crash moves a bit slower than he did in 2 and Warped. It felt that way for me who played the old games to death.
2. The slippery physics, I think they remain longer than they should, and unless you do a slide, it takes too long to change directions and move that way. Its also weird, because in stage 5, the slippery stairs that open up and close down, you can jump to it while its down, and Crash somehow slides up instead of down like in the first game.
3. When Crash lands near a crate edge, he may fall off. It may also not break the crate.
4. When I spinned to the plant enemy, I somehow got hurt instead of killing the plant. Its like the hitbox decides by a coin toss whether Crash beats the enemy or if the plant enemy kills him.
5. On the end of the lake stage, I fell out of bounds in the exit area. Maybe there wasnt collision around somewhere on the exit teleporter.
Those would be the nitpicks I noticed in the demo. I am aware that getting the controls to feel 100% the same as the originals is hard, but I think the things I mentioned could be looked into. I think as is now is very solid, and I definitely had fun with the fan game.
I downloaded this and tried it out. Awesome job! The level design is simple yet clever and looks great!
I do want to point out a few bugs I encountered while playing and suggest possible fixes (I have dabbled in game development, but I am by no means a true game dev). Take what I say with a grain of salt and keep in mind some of my suggestions might not work or be feasible:
1. Moving off of ledges will cause Crash to suddenly snap down (especially annoying for trying to slide jump to cross larger gaps). I think the issue has to deal with the script that would handle walking up and down stairs. Assuming this is done by using some sort of raycast to check for ground below the ledge for Crash to snap to, I’d probably just lessen the distance it checks. This one is probably the most difficult to fix I’d imagine.
2. Sometimes landing on boxes does not break them. I’m almost certain the issue is the stain script except the reverse. My guess as to what the issue is is that jumping near the top corner of a box causes script to treat the crate like a stair and teleport Crash’s position up. If this is the case, my guess for the fix would be to make a check as to whether the object is a crate or not.
3. The invisible walls keeping Crash inside the plane for the flashback tapes/level editor are not high enough and I’ve accidentally jumped over it and fell out of bounds in the Z-axis. Should be a relatively simple fix just increasing the height on those.
4. Related to #3, falling out of bounds and not triggering a death plane causes Crash to infinitely fall without dying and the only solution is to go back to the warp room. Assuming levels are all build with the lowest elevation at roughly the same point, just adding a check if Crash’s y-position falls below a certain value to kill him should be all that’s necessary.
5. Sometimes jumping on a bounce crate will cause it to register several bounces at once. This is especially common when bouncing Crash’s head against one and moving mid air to cause the front flip animation to occur. I believe the fix for this should just be adding a very short cooldown to the bounce crate’s ability to be bounced on. If this script is connected to all crates, I don’t really think it should affect them in any way since none of the others can be bounced on multiple times.
6. Not necessarily a bug per say, but in Snow Way Back, the background walls are uneven and sliding into them can cause Crash to go underneath the small overhang and forced into a crouch. This can be annoying especially in combination with the heavy ice physics and basically doesn’t allow you to jump and clear gaps. A quick manual fix would just be adding invisible walls to make the background walls have depth but function as if they were flat.
Overall, I’m very impressed. I’ve been wanting to try my hands at making a similarly styled Crash game (with my own characters and design), but I just haven’t had the time or energy to actually relearn modern Unity and get started. Can’t wait for the full build!

Feedback:
1. The game is great, but needs to improve the controls, sometimes i hit the jump button on the jump boxes and doesn't work.
2. In the "Level creator" if you go so much high the box collider doesn't work and you fall on the void forever.
3. In the "Level creator" there's the box to show the hidden boxes, but i can't find the hidden boxes to insert on the level, i don't know if it's there and i can't find it, but if isn't so it's missing
4. Tutorial for the Uka-Uka levels, honestly i tried to run the level but i don't know what i have to do there.
5. Please make available the dash on R1 like the main games instead only on circle.
This project is awesome, i love play this, if you fix these things and improve more and more in the next updates this game will be huge, trust me.

Hey, in the level editor how do you move the camera further out like left right up down etc? Also just a bug I've noticed in the level editor, if you hit a tnt crate and die before it's exploded, the crate will take 1 off the current amount of crates you got and is permanent, so if you hit only the tnt you will have -1 crates.
tried it and i will say that, i appreciated the controller support on it. i do wish for me graphics, framerate and resolution options. and Crash feels very, very slow to move. and perhaps the camera perspective could need some adjustments.
However, it does look promising and this is just some feedback to perhaps make it even better.

Thank you, we are pleased you like it! - We plan to update it until version 1.0 (Right now it is version 0.91) - It is basically finished, we wont add more levels I'm afraid, we just need to fix some bugs that people are finding by playing it and maybe add some other quality of life changes. We hope that for people who enjoy it, Crash Creator will be entertaining for a while after the 5 main levels!

Just by looking at the footage, you managed to capture in one month what most others struggled to do in a longer amount of time - the look and feel of a classic PS1 Crash game. And if this is to test 3D movement in Unity, you know your math with the level designs and box placements. Excellent work!
