Vertually every subsequent range of MF tractors built at Banner Lane (bar the MF 4200/4300 series) has its parentage directly attributable to the TO 35, designed by Herman Klemm. The Transmission Housings and Centre Housings have been beefed up over the years, but their principal dimensions have never altered. Since only so much speed variation could be garnered from several different ratios within the gearbox proper, (and crown wheel and pinion of course), a further speed variation could be achieved via outboard epicyclic gear units on the rear axles of tractors of 60hp and above. These tractors use square 'trumpet' housings with wet brakes, whilst below 60hp or thereabouts, round 'trumpet' housings, with no outboard reduction units, were utilised. Absolute scandal that Agco chose Beauvais over Banner Lane, as a production centre, when deciding which one to close. The bunch of clowns in this video, will never come close to the quality of product put out at Banner Lane !

Loose clothing around rotating machinery is another big no no, as is lack of eye protection when machining or proper visors when welding. Life is obviously cheap in these Countries - an utter disgrace !
Even by the sloppy way of applying the sealant to the sealing surface, you can see the below-average quality of the end product right at the beginning. Such a process is early 20. Century. Which farmer or which collective likes tractors with oil loss? Not to mention the mess on the cultivated area...

Herman Klemm was Massey Fergusons' Head of Engineering in the US at the time, and being highly unsatisfied with the less adaptable designs of the preceding TO 20/30 tractors (based on Banner Lane TE 20 designs), decided to implement a wholly new approach (actually cribbed from US automotive practices, whereby several different bodyshell designs could be married to a standard chassis/transaxle - the most expensive part of the vehicle - more units produced drove individual unit price down - competitive advantage), whereby using a comparatively small range of core components, many variations on a theme could be built more cheaply than had hitherto been the case. The new Ferguson TO 35 tractor, introduced to market in January 1955, embodied the new 'meccano' concept that Klemm brought to bear in his design department. In 1956, the same transaxle was mated to various Standard Motor Company Petrol/TVO engines (Produced at Cantley Factory), and produced at Banner Lane that year as the FE 35. Engine choices apart, the only real change from its US counterpart, was the bonnet styling which differed significantly. Late 1957 saw the same tractor redesignated as MF 35, following a shortening of the former Massey Harris Ferguson name, and rationalising of product lines. In the US, prior to 1958, both Ferguson and Massey Harris were in competition with one anothers product lines, despite being part of the same Parent Company (Ferguson Tractor Company was bought out by Massey Harris in late 1953). The transaxle of the Ferguson TO 35 was the basis for many successive generations of Banner Lane produced Massey Ferguson tractor ranges, right up to May 1997, when the newly designed MF 4200 series of tractors was introduced. Even the transaxles of these tractors had their parentage in the TO 35 design, albeit now, the main castings were created using a technique called Finite Element Analysis, which basically used a series of fundamental geometric shapes (like triangles for example) to describe the surface shape of a casting in a computer programme. Perkins engines adopted this methodology some years prior to MF and again the parentage is plain to see. Anyhow - enough rambling from me.
minute 22:54, their practice of inserting the piston and without any safety pad on the end of the connecting rod will scratch the cylinder surface, it is a bad way to install the piston that way.
