  • The Overwatch 2 (OW2) Season 11 patch is here! How will this shake up the meta? Will the glass being removed finally save Colosseo? Will Roadhog be nerfed into obscurity for another 10 months? (I personally hope so). Spilo judges the Overwatch 2 balance team on their substantial changed to Cassidy, Kiriko, Sojourn, Symmetra, Reaper, and more in this reaction video.

      30% damage less, yeah. "amazing" changes. They removed oneshots. Now they removing high damage. What's next? Friendlywatch without eliminations. Because are so many frustrated "players" who suffering from taking damage and got eliminated.

      @Clover_2L I meant what I said. IMO, a lot of the negativity in the Overwatch community comes from people having knee-jerk reactions to individual changes/missing changes, without taking the time to think about the overall effect of the patch or provide useful feedback.

      Typically I think the old wise ancient fossil of Flats is somewhat right about patch notes (like him predicting Hog and Mauga meta after Orisa was nuked WHILE she was meta, and Ball becoming one of the best tanks after the dev blog revealing his buffs) but this is that one time where I can nod and say that his whine and doomer side wasn't it for this patch notes, these are all so fire

      @@accuratememinIdk for tank players this is mostly cheeks. Reaper buffs? Mei buffs? Net cass buffs? Didn’t touch pharah so that’s still a problem for tank. Only meaningful changes are hog and kiri. Game will feel exactly the same as it did at the end of season 10 but worse for tanks

      Props to Ball viability call, tho.
      But like Spilo said before, whether a patch is good or bad... Streamers still have to sensationalize their reaction for views.

      The whole reason they launched Mythic hammer is because DPS queues are going to climb in a DPS mythic season. They need to give tank players something to want to keep playing tank.
      I imagine every season a DPS or Support gets mythic we will see a tank Mythic weapon. It's entirely to keep the game alive because tank is butt in 5 v 5.
      Not complaining here, just pointing it out. But that Suzu change better stick. Suzu has been the bane to tank fun for 2 years now.

      Bro this glass was so f*cking pointless and annoying I'm so glad they removed it. The space added to the "U zone" looks great too. Very good patch overall

    While I think these are good changes. It’s only 10 characters that’s less than 30% of the roster. With a mid season patch only 60% of the roster gets changes. If they did patches every 2-3 weeks with 8 characters in each I think the game would feel better.

      They do patches every 2-3 weeks. Season 10 saw patches every 2 weeks, except for the final 4 weeks. But we got 3 patches in the span of the first month.

      @@Piggehhsaying they do patch’s equal to the quality of mid season/1st day season every 2-3 weeks is a giving a little too much credit. Outside of mid season and new season patchs every other patch is just a bug fix, broken hero interaction, or hot fix. Not necessarily the quality of the mid season or first day of season patches. Also, they cover normally 1-2 heroes compared to the mid season or 1st day of season patch’s which cover normally at least 25% of the roster.

      Have you seen Samito's stream???? Illari is being played in every single game with a bap. That pylon did not need 2 buffs. You can't even break pylon without dying.

      ​@myles688 just put the plyon BP back to 100 and it's solved. The outburst buff confuses me,it's not for damage it's for positioning. I would much rather it go higher because some jumps feel a bit inconsistent. I would much prefer that than Illari being less effected by her own pylon and just keep the healing at 30. Having her be basically hitscan Zen with mobility is likely the healthiest you'll get her.

      The damage buff to outburst makes sense because it didn't get a damage buff after the herowide health buff. Yes, it is for repositioning, but it is just for scaling. Its damage should not be 10 damage when most characters have 250 HP.

      ​@@Nixxos Coming from a masters "ex" rein otp the reason rein feels like shit is he feels very squishy to all stuns in the game, his only way to absorb the stuns is his shield but he can do nothing while holding it, so a stun resistance to cc like hack... during pin will be pretty good.

      @@nokia8646 we're talking about mauga not rein man. mauga charge doesnt get interrupted by any ultimate in the game except maybe emp i forget. I'm not saying normal hack or sleep should interrupt it but the fact it has literally 0 counterplay is stupid af and you cant argue against that

    I see hog nerfs I'm happy. That hero needs to be bad or else the game is unplayable. All they need to do is nerf phara re work widowmaker, remove sombra from the game and it will be fun again.

    I mean this is good for Sym but like I think that these aren’t the buffs she really needs.
    The devs have taken away almost all of Sym’s ways of interacting with squishies so much so that she’s really only good against tanks. Turrets are useless, TP bombing isn’t worth it, Orbs don’t do enough damage, and beam either takes too long or doesn’t have enough range.
    The health is good but it would be better if they reduced her hitbox size since that hitbox belonged to a completely different hero with a homing weapon and a shield.

      @@sebastianrodriguez8992 The one issue is that she wasn't always niche she had ways to play agaisnt heroes who could stay away from beam or kill her before it could ramp.
      before two tap it was tp bomb and with that she could do something about her bad matchups. If they keep buffing beam she'll stay a tank buster.

    Very curious about seeing Mei’s viability in S11. She is now much more deadly again as she has her headshot+bodyshot combo back before the health buff change (150+75 killed 200 HP heroes, now 170+85 kills 250 HP heroes). Tracer may still not be one-shot by Mei (missing 5 HP) but Ana sleep dart against Tracer will now guarantee a kill (5 dmg from sleep dart + 170 Mei headshot), which raises Ana’s value with Mei now.

    I think a cool change for symmetra is if the charge rate of her primary scaled with the enemys max health so its faster on squishys but you dont melt tanks in 2 seconds, I also like the health change since her primary makes her play more brawly

    Im not a fan personally.
    I think its a good patch overall, but i think the lack of interesting or engaging buffs kills it for me.
    Theres no novelty, theres nothing that jumps out and feels worth coming back to see unless you play Sojourn or Cowboy in which case you can see if the compensation of your nerf is interesting.
    Good Patch or no its just kinda dry

    One thing I think no one has taken into account is the extra 25 health on the pylon bc that is one more shot that a soldier would have to take which is a shot that kiri wouldn’t and that time may even let the pylon shoot one more time and that would be a buff

    Hopefully Hopefully hopefully we will see some changes to tankbusters soon. Heroes like Bastion, Mauga, Reaper, Sym, so they do less damage, but are more accurate or lethal vs smaller hitbox of longer range foes.
    Sym charging up even faster, but the damage goes down to something like 90/120/150. (Higher bottom end, lower top end)
    Reaper getting slightly less damage per shot but an extra metre or two of falloff and even tighter spread.
    Mauga getting his single gun spread tightened, his fire damage toned down, but it ignites faster, his dual gun fire rate nerfed, but his passive buffed, so he can more consistently get overhealth from shooting squishies, but is less effective at shredding tanks.
    Bastion could get his primary fire buffed, his assault mode nerfed, and his passive reworked. Maybe something like “you gain a buff after you transform for X seconds depending on which form to turn into. Recon gets you speed boost, assault mode gets you a couple seconds of shredding, before it falls off, and ult gets you dmg reduction.”
    Once those heroes are a lot healthier, I think the game will be in a much better place across all ranks. (Obviously there’ll still be pain points with Sombra and Widow and Suzu and Lamp etc.)

    As a symmetra player, primary fire was great if you charged up the damage with an enemy tank's shield (I call it shield sucking) but this increased rate is a game changer

      I actually feel like soldier’s heal is too strong. I would nerf its effect and reduce the cooldown. Going up against it in 1v1s is pretty oppressive, at least in my experience.

      ​@@abudgie6909it's on an 18 sec cd and you have to use it often If you're trying to off angle. and you die from burst DMG anyways. prob the only long cd which isn't literal immortality, you can also disengage, go hide in cover till it runs out. I really don't understand how people complain about soldier heal when 90% of the support abilities are better with a shorter cd.

      @@SteveFard I agree that the cooldown is too long. I said that. I’m a winston main and when I play DPS (off role) I play tracer. My experience is that fighting a soldier in his bio field is really hard and feels bad, especially given the fact that helix has an enormous hitbox and forces recall by itself. I know I can disengage and wait it out, but I don’t think that’s very engaging. Sustain abilities that are so strong that the only counterplay is running away really suck. This is primarily a problem with the support role (suzu, bap shift and lamp, life grip), however I think soldier also exhibits this problem, to a lesser extent.
      There are worse examples of sustain abilities than bio field. That doesn’t make bio field 100% okay; that’s just a fallacy. It’s just whataboutism.
      You can call bio field weak in general and that may be true. But that doesn’t invalidate the fact that bio field is extremely strong in 1v1s against heroes that can’t one shot you.
      Edit: you also should keep in mind that you’re comparing a DPS ability with support abilities. Each role uses different kinds of utility. Amp heal is better than bio field, but that’s fine. You can’t just make hasty comparisons between roles like that. Imagine if they replaced sojourn’s E with a winston bubble. That would be insanely broken.

    Part of me wants them to implement that tp change for Kiriko. It's sooooo fun. I kinda use it like Tracer's blink.
    Same goes for hog and Rein. Like they should implement these changes to the actual core modes every 4 - 6 months to change up the game.

    Not a fan of the Sojourn change. Feels like it pushes her into the more degenerate aspects of a projectile hero.
    Faster Spam, Builds Charge Faster off Tankspam, Rail goes through tanks so can "accidentally" do collateral to people playing off a tank in enclosed.
    And Sojourn was already kinda excessive at punishing clustering because of how strong Disruptor is.
    And at the same time it makes aggressive dueling less rewarding on her because her Railgun damage is diminished.
    I think it just makes spam the tank "then maybe" shoot a squishy so much more attractive by comparison that i dont think the meta impact will be good.

      Pharah, Tracer, Genji, Echo, Soldier, Cowboy and maybe Ashe/Widow is pretty much all i ever see. I dont have a bad opinion of Sojourn solely because shes so rare i cant ever get tilted by her.
      Imo i think shes super dead. The return and consistency for her to get value is just not there compared to just playing an Ashe or Soldier i feel like

      @@Crescendo961 what rank is this? She's a fairly high skill-floor character (which has been addressed by this latest patch) so she isn't played much at all below diamond. At least she's not as broken as a good tracer.
      I understand that the balance team needs to try and account for all ranks, though.

      Yes thank you for speaking up about this. I really hate the way they push the playstyle to be very boring and in the most low skill way. The fun is with hitting rail not some dumb boring lifeweaver projectile fire. Basically just made for low elo players.

    i think the illari changes were a big net buff. the reduced self healing doesn't really affect me, since if you time your flank well, you don't need the pylon

      The point of the pylon is using it to sustain yourself on aggressive off-angle, It makes you very hard to flush out

    A better change for Orisa is if the Javelin Spin hits the target the cooldown is reduced to 8, if it doesn't hit a target it's kept at 9.

    I find it a little strange how certain community members are saying the patch is trash or not very impactful but you feel its an A tier patch. I guess it can be chalked up to just different community members experiences and varying viewpoints. But I'm glad to see the changes well received because I'm fond of them personally, and thats my bias : p

    illari's pylon is 33% less effective on herself and 33% more effective on allies (oh u said that)
    Blizz seems unwilling to make supports with similar 'heal delivery methods'. They might never make another support that heals by shooting their allies with a straight-shooting gun like ana. But they could give a hitscan aim reliant healer a different kit and still be completely different than ana. As more supports are released, I hope they become willing to rehash existing healer weapons instead of lame ideas like illari's pylon or weaver's sit-afk-charging blossoms.

    A possibly decent Fortify nerf to Orisa would be that she reduces her crit headshots by 25% instead of 100%, and that 25% stacks with the tank passive for 50%. So its still slightly more beneficial to shoot her head over the current version.

    I am seeing a lot of negativity towards the patch on Twitter (shocker right?) but I don’t hate anything on this patch and I absolutely agree with most of the changes.
    The only change I actively dislike is making Pylon more beefy. But that’s just the Sombra/Tracer player that I am hating all deployables. I’m a bit on the fence about Symm and Cass, although the more I play the more I think Cass is even stronger now. But I’ll give it a bit more testing.
    Overall my biggest issue is the lack of Mauga nerfs. I think Mauga’s Cardiac Overdrive is just too strong, maybe it is fine on Mauga himself, but certain heroes gain exponentially more value from it than others, such as Genji/Venture. And it feels bad to play as and to play into. I’d like to see Cardiac Overdrive get the Commanding Shout treatment and reduce the effects that teammates receive.
    Or just remove Mauga entirely. That could work too. (Joking… Unless?)

      Honestly if she's supposed to be off angling,might it go higher for more consistent jumps,remove the damage and give it healing around her so when she's repositioning she's leaving a little bit of hp for her team. Fits with the sun warrior being more about protecting and helping people than just straight murder.

    this is the exact patch where cc needs to start being classified under “hard” and “soft” crowd control, there’s obviously a clear definition to these but the devs need to start actually classifying them so we can better grasp where they belong in the game

      @@PoisedHD It says 'knockdown', is blinded knocked down? Is rooted standing up knocked down? Anything that turns off all input is a hard stun. Mei's blizzard will still be fully cleansed even as a hard stun because they did exactly as you asked and clarified 'knockdown'.

    Dva got buffed but two of her biggest counters are now stronger against her and she still suffers from the armor changes. Her survivability felt perfect before they messed with armor. The dva buffs are good but they should have came before they ruined armor. At least the boosters change.

    I still don’t like this approach to Hog. Him having so much personal sustain was annoying but his damage output is his biggest issue, it enables him to me super matchup fishy (great into Winston/Ball, terrible into Orisa/Mauga) which this patch doesn’t change at all.

      Matchup fishing among tanks in general has been cut down with the armor revert. Hog is doing about 30% less damage to armor in general, making him really strong against anyone lacking mobility but weaker against those Dive tanks he could previously explode.

    listen, this is honestly so refreshing for a content creator. i think after a certain point overreaction like the ones that the overwatch community are prone to start to not only harm the persons credibility but it also starts to hurt the viewers mental. most overwatch creators are doomers so there’s no wonder why the ow community is so pessimistic about everything all the time. that’s not to say that they aren’t justified at times but i see people getting mad over great changes. this is not bashing anyone i’m just saying that the overreaction over nothing is getting old. like i remember when they made mercy’s beam not break when activating valkyrie and people lost it over that change even though it was a quality of life at best.

    Dia 4 tank player here. Hog feels way more punishable currently. I think Tank has become truly map dependent. I am going to defend Mauga. He isn't that oppressive in Plat/Diamond. He is great at holding the other tank and bay if they are carrying. You have to take active engagements like Ball or Winston do to win games were your DPS or Support are worse. He does have the passive value Hog has.

    This patch was such a W, the only thing I didn't like was the increase to Pylon HP, chat is just full of a bunch of doomers
    Even Mauga doesn't need much of a nerf, just to the damage reduction/lifesteal that he grants to his allies

    few things id like to say
    1. the illari pylon is extremely broken and i think people been sleeping on her she is very strong and currently makes me want to rage quit every game vs her. Pylon didnt need those changes if anything there should be a timer on it so the player doesnt just spam it and has to be cautious about timing and decision making where/when to put it down.
    The hp buff on it is also beyond me as for example sombra virus doesnt kill it anymore. Other than that its literally hard to destroy around certain angles and they get a 3rd support for free.
    People will hate illari this season mainly because of pylon i see it coming
    2. Im excited to see what the reaper rework brings i'm hoping for something new and spicy. As of right now even after the changes i can confirm reaper doesnt really feel that much better (i played about 10 games with him today in lower gm ranks) and yeah still very bad imo. I did like the change from the content creator mode where you can use wrath during death blossom. Maybe food for thought it could be a viable thing in the future? Could be interesting to see some plays where you press Ult and dodge brig rally stun mid-animation with wrath and back to spinning
    3. Finally how long has it been where we actually see a kiri nerf? Ever since her release she always gotten buffed when they nerfed her. This one is a big W

    Mostly good changes but sojourn symm and especially illari changes are pretty poopoo. Idk how the pylon changes fix the issue of "pylon down go in" other than it taking slightly longer. She still is worse in poke comps than zen who has no falloff and discord value and worse than kiri at off angling bc outburst is still a pretty mediocre escape

      Sigma rock, magua charge. It's not huge but a noticeable change. I mean shatter is an ultimate so it being countered by a basic ability was pretty op. And when two tanks charge the one gets suzued gets up first making the "equal" knockback in favour of the kiriko's team.

      The intangibility is only 650ms long and you wont get the bonus cleanse healing now. And it's a 15 second cooldown. This changes crucial breakpoints it's a meaningful change.

      If you did 80 damage to 50% dmg reduction you would 40 dmg.
      If you did 80 damage to a 40% dmg reduction you would do 48 dmg.
      40 to 48 is a 20% increase.

    I loved this patch but the Sojourn one is just so unbelievably bad.
    She needs to ger her spread reverted from what she had some seasons ago, and doing only 150hs is fucking criminal. Cass does that. And you have to charge your rail.
    No she doesn't need pierce on regular railgun, she doesn't need a better ult, she doesn't need faster primary, she needs to be FUN to play and now the not only made her more boring but also easier, because headshots are not as close as rewarding. Reward what makes her skillful and FUN.
    MY IDEAL SOJ PATCH:
    Keep the energy to damage ratio that they did this patch, but increase the lower end to 20. (So 20-100) WHY? Because you as a sojourn always used those very low charge rate shots to finish off players that you hit with rail. Also she did need a lower bodyshot damage, she had the second highest bodyshot dmg besides hog. Completely unnecessary.
    Increase the HS multiplier so she does 170. You don't need to one shot Tracer or any character, but you need to reward players for hitting their shots. Again, Cass and Ashe deal almost the same damage without having to charge up their shots.
    Remove the primary fire spread or make it very unnoticeable. This makes her maintain skill expression and rewards the player. You can't believe how fun (and hard) it is to aim with her primary which is so unique, only for it to be ruined by her unnecesary spread.

      60 - 50 = 10
      10 is 20% of 50 (one fifth) so 50->60 is a 20% increase

      @swang8862 It's not wrong, but it depends on what you're actually looking at. If you compare how much damage you can deal before and after, it makes more sense to say its a 20% increase.
      For example, a pharah rocket does 120 damage. With 50% damage resist thats 60. With 40% damage resist it goes up to 72 damage.
      That's an extra 12 damage and 12 is 60 divided by 5. So 72 is 20% more damage than 60.

    In my opinion, Sym's main fire shouldn't have gotten a buff. It shoulda been her off fire. Buff the damage or the projectile speed.
    I feel like projectile speed woulda been better. It would let her poke out enemies from longer ranges and help vs the tracer mu.
    This will not help her in 1v1s since her really bad mus already ignored beam, it just makes her mu vs tank even harder for tank.

    Sojourn feels like complete dogshit to play now. I hate this change so much. Just makes the hero less fun. Could have nerfed rail hitbox size or whatever to make it way more of a skill shot rather than a complete rework to dumpster the character and make it boring to play. Wow I spam basically lifeweaver thorns in a general direction to get kills, how fun...

    Hot take:
    Spilo is right that this patch technically gets an A, but his grading system is flawed. It only grades what's present and not what's missing. In this case the community has been constantly bitching about how bad tank feels to play for MONTHS and they completely missed the mark on improving that.
    Suzu nerf is good for tanks but honestly feels like that was just on accident to sell the Rein mythic weapon skin 😂

    Hog is the same terrible hero. Hes just got weaker numbers this patch, so theyll just give him numbers back later. Nobody wants this, but it will happen.
    Jq buffs are cool, we all love jq. But how many cool downs are gonna just skip the tank passive? Can my soldier bullets just ignore the tank passive too? Thatd be pretty sick (not)
    Mei going in the right direction (like basically every change this patch) but they REFUSE to let her one shot tracer. Crazy. Honestly, its crazy it took this long just to get headshot bodyshot on the average hero, and as a flex dps player a change this slow (and not one shotting tracer) simply angers me, these devs are asleep 20 hours a day with this much progress.
    Kiri nerfs are cool. Dunno why it was 6 seasons too late, guess those blizzard sleep cycles being 20 hours of sleep a night are really causing issues here. Its also adding shitty exceptions just like sleep dart and jq knife. Theres "hard stuns" now? Coulda just said your rein skin wont sell if shatter is cleansed 90% of the time. This coincidental timing pisses me off cause it takes a skin to get a kiri nerf. Genuinely, i hope kiri is still hard meta for eternity unless blizzard actually plans to nerf kiri because of kiri, without any other reason to do so. Jesus i don't even hate this patch but i do hate the type of game its showing off 10 patches from now. Cant wait to memorize 4 more cool downs that just go around the tank passive later down the line

    ...... I swear, one of these days they are going to figure out that their Winrate math is bad. "OMG ORISA WINRATE BAD". No duh...... Winrate is weighted by time played. The team with the most time on defense, and with the least time on Attack, tends to win. So heroes on Defense tend to have much higher winrates because they are winning, and defense is a much larger timeframe than Attack, as a proportion of the entire match.
    All the "Low winrate on Orisa" tells them is "Orisa is primarily played-as-wins on Attack, and rarely played-as-wins on Defense".
    For literally the exact opposite reason to why Torb and Symm have always had much higher winrates. And why OW1 Orisa almost always had winrates above 60%.
    They are chasing after a formula that doesn't work.
