Big thanks to my buddy SparkyMark ( / @sparky_mark ) for his help with all the LEDs. 😅
    ---------------
This week, I worked overtime and actually spent two weeks 3D printing, painting, and weathering a life-size BD-1 droid from the Star Wars video games Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor! And due to my persistent desire to add more to my plate, this ones not JUST a life-size prop, it’s also a diorama with a “real” hologram projector that doubles as a night light for my son’s bedroom! - That’s right, this little droid has got a functional projection lens that projects a planet onto any surface, along with a blinking LED light panel, and a voice box for that extra touch of realism!
In this video, I'll walk you through my process for deciding which of BD-1's intricate parts should be 3D printed with a filament printer versus a resin printer, and how to ensure they're sanded and filled for a professional finish. I’ll then move on to painting and weathering, where I'll share my tips for achieving that authentic grimy Star Wars aesthetic.
Finally, using my almost non existent knowledge of electricity, I’ll walk you through the process of integrating LED lights and sound into BD-1's design and how I went about building his hologram projector using a cheap projection lens I found online.

How do you only have 2.74K subscribers? This is such an awesome channel and I can't wait to see this channel get the following it deserves.

Incredible work! The project itself of course but also the editing was very smooth too. Also you have a great narration voice, very calming and clean

Very well done! The end result turned out terrific
For the weathering on the red and white areas, are you just scratching off the top layer of paint?

      Thank you!
Yes, this was one of my first times weathering like this so I was just scratching paint off. It wasn’t too hard because the red acrylic paint came off easily before I sealed it with a clear coat. The white I was scratching just enough to allow my weathering wash a divot to sit in and dry.
These days, I still use this technique every once in a while, but now I would probably lay down a coat of Vallejo’s chipping medium before my airbrush paint. I’ve seen other folks use hairspray, but I haven’t tried that method yet.
Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

Sorry love the video but the cadence in your voice bugs the mess out of me. The long pauses in the middle of your sentences.
