The fact that LEGO haven't made an official Lifesize BD-1 is astounding. Hopefully with the New game in the series announced, we'll get some sets based around stuff from Fallen Order

I had the EXACT same reaction seeing a BD unit in the last episode!! I had a sliver of hope for seeing Cal in live action in the future. Love the content!
I didn’t know anything about the droid but as soon as I saw it I imagined it’s potential….In a way it reminds me of the translator droid lowbacca has in legends canon and the way that droid was upgraded to allow it to interact with larger systems. In the same way in The Mandalorian and BOBF we see Artoo unit that are bolted onto repulsor craft to act as the driver I picture BD droid able to dock onto and operate larger specialized equipment. I’m just picturing is a was a lone person in the Star Wars universe I would want to have a squad of BD droids (under the leadership of an R2 Unit) that could dock with a ship or speeder to move it around for me, maybe even headless humanoid devices for moving items and manual manipulation.
The BD’s are classed as exploration droids, they’re basically little droid parrots, they can hack other droids, use little set boosters to glide, they have a stim pack dispenser, can open doors exactly like an astromech (except it uses it’s foot), and they are decently durable for their size. Just look up how he’s used in Jedi: Fallen Order, he’s great, easily one of the best companions in any video game.
There's something absolutely amazing that they on purpose try to design BB-8 (a droid I love) to be like the new R2D2 of the series only for Grogu and BD-1 to far surpass him by accident. It's kind of a lesson between on purpose engineering and emergent response.
Weird that they didnt make a decent sized action figure out of him. The design is so appealing and I could see kids that dont know anything about star wars just wanting one when seeing it on a shelf in a toy store.
The best thing about BD-1 (well one of the best things) is that instead of being just a gameplay mechanic like you might expect, he's his own character within the story with agency of his own, actually doing things in cutscenes and having a personality instead of just being used as a tool for bypassing obstacles.
In canon, BD-1 is responsible for the single most effective attack levelled against Darth Vader in his prime (read: post-suit) until his death at the hands of Palpatine, incapacitating him for even longer than Ahsoka did when she shattered part of his mask in that iconic rebels scene. Truly, the most goated Star Wars character of all time
