- I love BD droids! BD-1 from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order quickly became one of my favorite droids in the galaxy, so I was thrilled to see another BD unit appear in the latest episode of The Book of Boba Fett. Here is everything there is to know about the little droids and why they are amazing!

The fact that LEGO haven't made an official Lifesize BD-1 is astounding. Hopefully with the New game in the series announced, we'll get some sets based around stuff from Fallen Order
This comment actually made me realize I haven't seen any Fallen order stuff for LSWSS. I guess I've been hoping so hard for Rebels and TCW content I forgot about other game content in it. Cal, BD, Second Sister, Cere, Greez, Merrin. It wouldn't even need to be a ton, just something to acknowledge
@@CascadianRanger I belive Lego said that they weren't making any fallen order sets as it was "too violent"
@@CascadianRanger to be fair they haven't made jfo figures and i doubt it is top priority for them due to focus on the 9 main films
@@HondaOhnaka You'd think they would want to focus on the successful parts of the franchise. Last 3 movies aren't that, FO is. I'd imagine they could move a lot more FO product as I'm sure most people buying Lego Star Wars are very familiar with the game.
As I understand it, LEGO didn't want to make sets based on Fallen Order because the violence was still somewhat unpredictable before the game's release. Why they didn't afterwards, I don't know.
I feel like these are some of the few droids in Star Wars that seem like they could make actual practical sense in real life.
You callin a gonk droid useless!?!?
Yeah, also droids like C-3PO could make sense in real life too
@@RWM0 Protocol droids are essentially just AI for translation and logistics with a mostly useless robotic body. Something like Halo's AI fill essentially the same role while being far less of a hassle.
The BD, however, is essentially a mini mobile projector that also happens to be adorable.
@@RWM0 Not at all. The non fantasy cultural and technological context of today means that the role of a protocol droid would just be fulfilled by an app on your phone, maybe with cloud computing.
Ah maybe not then lol
I’d love to have an actual BD droid. This is what robotics should aspire to
Time to actually make use of my engineering class.
@@chaosjimthevoidlord3762 DEW IT.
Yes, I had to use that line. Now just. DEW IT.
@@1989SupraGuyFIN yes, I shall.
@@chaosjimthevoidlord3762 give it a tazer a secret tazer
@@richardbeng8461 the hidden taser, no one will expect it from a BD unit.
I like that BD looks like a really small AT-ST and I love him with all my heart.
if only it had a blaster on the top of it's head, than it would truly be mini AT-ST. Additionally, it would serve as great shoulder mounted cannon (predator style, but with its own AI).
@@solarissv777 you can always mod it in the star wars universe
The attention to detail with a droid like this is amazing. Pelli's BD droid using its holo projector and moving the same as it did in the game shows how much the creators of the care about continuity.
Gotta hand it to Disney. they brought in some of that cuteness of some of their mascots to some of those new droids and did it effectively
I fully realize BB-8 would, realistically speaking, be a cold and heavy ball of steel. But still I've always wanted to hug it for reasons I can't explain
@@CheeseRunner you're not alone.
@@CheeseRunner same
Although, we have to give credit to Electronic Arts
Lucisfilm
Before even watching the video, I'll tell you right away that I agree, and the moment I met BD-1 in Fallen Order I immediately knew what kind of droid I'd want in real life, perfect mix of adorable pet and utility droid!
Yeah it was so cute lol
That's how skynet is gonna get us. Make the Terminator's into adorable little dog-like mechs that we can't help but to try petting.
I love this droid model, hope to see more in other series
I remember when I first played the game Amy impression of BD-1 went from “huh, this droid looks cool” to “I would risk my life for this thing!”
He said “buddy droid” for BD but I would have been perfectly happy with the “Bird Dog” being the reason for “B-D” 😂💀
honestly i was kinda hoping the BD droid would tag along with Din since he seemed to get along with it so well. i guess theres still room for that to happen but frankly i dont think theyre gonna give Din 2 adorable marketable companions
Din by the end of this whole Mandoverse saga is basically gonna he anstar wars pokemon trainer with a ship full of adorable friends
BD-1, from the moment I met him in Fallen Order, was my favourite droid I had ever seen. He's so cute. Not only that, but he has tons of uses. Useful and cute, the perfect mix
The reveal of a BD in BoBF was the first time in a very long time that I literally paused what I was watching, screamed out, and rewound to watch it again. Of course my head canon went straight to "that's BD-1," and subsequently, "Cal is going to teach Din how to use the Darksaber." And of course, that's very unlikely. But that's fine, because I was so delighted nonetheless. Seeing BD next to multiple generations of droids from the films in the same scene was a truly validating experience.
Definitely some of the best droids! Its cool seeing BDs in Mando / Boba Fett after having one in Fallen Order.
Mando? BD units haven’t appeared in the Mandalorian
@@tomn6800 Did you see the latest episode of Boba Fett? I think based off of that i can put Mando in there.
@@mimoe7587 it’s a boba Fett episode featuring the Mando, not a Mando episode
@@tomn6800 What you're saying is right but based on the episode i don't think including him could be considered wrong.
If anything based on the writing of the episode; it was a Mando episode that was included in the Boba show that featured only 1 Boba character to tie it in.
@@mimoe7587 it was almost like an interlude
I wish Mando would've taken it for him, I want to see him climb Din's back and running around by himself scanning everything during Din's adventures heck imagine him scanning Grogu when they meet because it would be the first Yoda species being he has encountered or something like that.
It'd be neat yes, but they won't let us know Yoda's species.
My face instantly lit-up from the first shot of the BD unit. Initially thought it was THE BD-1, but quickly figured it probably wasn't, but was extremely happy to see one in live action nonetheless.
i like how the design for the live action one looks like one of the alternate bd-1 skins, somewhere between the grungio, myrmidon, and stygeon prime skins
I'm not a gamer and I didn't know BD before I watched The Book of Boba Fett. But my first reaction to him was "Sooo cuuuute!!!" 😍
For April Fools Day you should upload a 2+ hours long video, just rambling about how and why Biggs is the best character, going into minute details and stating the weirdest facts about him. Would ne fun to watch you go full nerd
I didn’t know anything about the droid but as soon as I saw it I imagined it’s potential….In a way it reminds me of the translator droid lowbacca has in legends canon and the way that droid was upgraded to allow it to interact with larger systems. In the same way in The Mandalorian and BOBF we see Artoo unit that are bolted onto repulsor craft to act as the driver I picture BD droid able to dock onto and operate larger specialized equipment. I’m just picturing is a was a lone person in the Star Wars universe I would want to have a squad of BD droids (under the leadership of an R2 Unit) that could dock with a ship or speeder to move it around for me, maybe even headless humanoid devices for moving items and manual manipulation.
The BD’s are classed as exploration droids, they’re basically little droid parrots, they can hack other droids, use little set boosters to glide, they have a stim pack dispenser, can open doors exactly like an astromech (except it uses it’s foot), and they are decently durable for their size. Just look up how he’s used in Jedi: Fallen Order, he’s great, easily one of the best companions in any video game.
This is also the forst live-action appearance of a womp rat. Heck, i think its the first film appearance of a womp rat.
I had the EXACT same reaction seeing a BD unit in the last episode!! I had a sliver of hope for seeing Cal in live action in the future. Love the content!
They remind me of puppies. Adorable and always there for you.
Because they're adorable and does a cute happy dance.
I LOVE BD-1! For me, he's the best part of Fallen Order, which is a great game by itself^^
Thanks for the info on this droid. I didn't know about it before I saw that episode and this video.
The bit we're he got excited and shuffled his legs 😀
I love BD Droids so much.
I wanted to build one since I played Fallen Order
God I can't wait until Fallen Order 2
Bd 1 is such a amazing character I really hope we see him or another model like him in the spotlight on one of the future shows!
My new headcanon is Peli’s BD Droid was a gift from her Jawa Ex
I see BD, I like
If a BD Droid ever becomes available commercially, I'll be at the top of the list to buy one (LEGO or otherwise)
"I was filled with pure joy, and then complete and utter distress when it was attacked by a womp rat"
Dude, same
That was the most emotion I ever heard from Alex. XD
Weird that they didnt make a decent sized action figure out of him.
The design is so appealing and I could see kids that dont know anything about star wars just wanting one when seeing it on a shelf in a toy store.
Yes I have the exact same reaction you did! physical response and pure joy
Both BD-1 and BB-8 are both my favorite droids up falling in line with R2-D2 and B1 battle droids.
I love your channel! The Ant droids from the Book of boba are really cool. I hope we get some cool toys of them and a lego BD1.
How cool would a bd1 RC toy be ?
Haha..nice reaction and yes I also did enjoy the BD-droid cameo. I wished it would have joined Mando.
Pelli has quite an eclectic group of droids in her shop. Good for her and us.
These little dudes have a really similar energy to Wall-E or Johnny 5. Apparently there is something special about the "binoculars for a head" design.
Your new thumbnails are awesome
He reminds me a lot of WALL-E, especially those big eyes and general air of bewildered innocence.
BD does not only mean Buddy Droid, it is even a hommage for BT (Buddy Titan) from the Titanfall Games from Respawn Entertainment. Very good idea and the name suits him very much. Nice video and I hope we see this BD unit (and BD-1 of course) again!
BDs are like scaled down Scout Walkers.
I sttanded up and screamed, when I saw the BD unit! It was a wonderful feeling!
BD is now my favorite Droid in star wars, i like that droid a lot. thank you for R videos
I haven't played Fallen Order but was very happy when it popped up. It's such a funny looking droid, really fits Star Wars.
While I was excited to see a BD, I don’t think anyone was as excited as you were, Alex 😅
It's just like when Zanny did a let's play on J:FO. When he first saw BD-1, he said "I would die for you." That's probably everyone's first reaction to him. Especially mine.
My fav droid ever since playing fallen order I’ve grown up with Star Wars and I mean it’s got many great droids but bd is simply the best I can’t wait to see more of them in Star Wars so cute so helpful like a little dinosaur but very expressive
He can fly😍. It makes him even cooler. I loved Chopper, but when they showed he could fly it made his character even better.
i just love how bd-1 is so hyper
I had never seen this droid before that episode of -The Mandalorian- _The Book of Boba Fett,_ but the way it was prominently featured had me thinking it was a cameo of some kind.
I agree, it's adorable, and- like someone before me said- I would _love_ for LEGO to release a full-sized version of this like they did R2-D2 -and BB-8- (which, yes, I have both of those). Hopefully we see it again in _The Mandalorian_ so they can justify releasing it in a larger scale!
I’ve seen a 3D printed version of BD-1 and I want it. Star Wars has been doing great creating new droids. K2S0, IG-11 BB-8!
Gotta admit the BD and BB Units are nice additions to the Star Wars family of droids.
The BD series of droids instantly took my number one favorite companion droid slot as soon as I saw one.
I still think the IG series is my personal favorite, next to the BX series.
I’m always going to have a soft spot for astromechs, and B1s.
Waiting for a droid contest. Have an idea for a type of droid. Although the droids would have some features the same there would be roughly six different styles. Be very simple in design. Two would look like stylized rabbits, one based on iconic engineer structure piece, the others like various objects. They would serve various purposes, with the ability to pick up items or hold onto objects.
I wasn't aware of the design being based on a bird and dog, though I can see it now. I made the instant connection to dwarf short ear rabbit myself actually as my family has some very loving ones and the "antenna ears" behave very similarly, plus the way they follow us around and beg for attention. Regardless, I fell in love with BD-1 instantly in Fallen Order the same way and is absolutely in my top droids list
BD’s are great, my favourite droids for sure.
didn't know about this droid before BoBF but moment i saw it i knew it was important to fans and BD units are adorable
Love BD - I was so happy to see him. The only Droid appearance that would get me more excited would be if Chopper appears in the Ahsoka series.
"I dare you not to fall in love with one" Me: Ha, I've already failed.
A very practical, versatile, and kind droid model.
The best thing about BD-1 (well one of the best things) is that instead of being just a gameplay mechanic like you might expect, he's his own character within the story with agency of his own, actually doing things in cutscenes and having a personality instead of just being used as a tool for bypassing obstacles.
I loved R2D2 growing up... and never saw other droids as anything close to him.... until I played the fallen order game with BD1... since then I have know if droids were real, BD droids would definetly be my sidekick!
I've never played Fallen Order. But I'm absolutely delighted that they're pulling references from so many places.
Glad to see I wasn't the only one getting "dog" vibes from BD-1, he honestly seemed to have the personality of a curious puppy!
In canon, BD-1 is responsible for the single most effective attack levelled against Darth Vader in his prime (read: post-suit) until his death at the hands of Palpatine, incapacitating him for even longer than Ahsoka did when she shattered part of his mask in that iconic rebels scene. Truly, the most goated Star Wars character of all time
I literally had the exact same reactions you had to seeing this on screen.
I look forward to be able to customize the little guy in Jedi Survivor.
BD-1 is now in my favorite droid, he is so cute and loyal.
He also has a little jet booster more for slow decents and impact dampening I'm guessing we don't see it often smae reason as r2
Just wonderful!
That moment feels like it was specifically designed for you hahahah
I was wondering have you ever done a video about the other astromechs in the extended universe like Q9-X2 and the SB-20 Slicer droids that were rebuilt astromechs
Sup
yeah they are adorable and i want one along with several other droids.
We need a BD-1 toy, one where you pop in some batteries or something & it walks around... Or tappity tap taps so cutely. ^__^
Im so glad we had a similar reaction.
I somehow knew there was a correlation between his name and the word "buddy". How cute
BD-1 is one of the best droids. frakin' adorable
I so want for the BD unit in Fett to stowaway in the N1 and become the Mando's and Grogu's Droid...
Alex's "NO!" is incredible
I’d love to have my own BD unit
You forgot to mention this Droid was also made for Human companionship, to have someone in a long running exploration, in a Far Far place. to have have a companion basically, and dont be Lonely.
With a slight modification to the legs. It would be able to rest and fold up to be more compact.
Working on a 1:1 scale 3D printed pit droid.
BD will be next. Definitely want to add animation and lighting to it.
Eno Cordova died after fallen order in Jedi survivor but everyone thought he died in fallen order
Instantly became my favorite droid, and type of droid. I want one...now please.
I'll admit I never played the game but I loved seeing her bd for the first time
BD-1 is my favorite droid in star wars. I literally squealed and jumped up and down when bd popped out
Didn't play Fallen Order, but I always like the droids in Star Wars.
Please do a “Why pit droids are great?” video. I also like BD1 too.
They kind of remind me a lot of ROB, the Nintendo robot that came with the original NES console way back in the 80's. Its the shape of the head mostly
The fact that BD stands for Buddy Droid gives me life
I wish at the droid depot in battu you can make you own BD unit it would probably be the hardest to make
I’m now in love with BD droids
found the RE-1 when playing SWTOR and i fell in love with it
ps the orange ''head'' one is a RE-1 so not a BD moddel just a minor script error
YES i lost my mined when i saw this and was so happy when it helpd mando with the ship!!
