    I smiled when you broke out the pastels, they are my favorite weathering tool as well, I've been using them over 20 years with great results! As a member of TDH and BFBC, I thought your paint choices and mixtures looked pretty good and I was happy to see that you used reference photos and did such a good job at paint matching. The more I've learned about photography and paint mixing I've realized you're not going to get it perfect (at least not without having the screen used proper there for reference) and we just do the best we can. I opted to try the "new" Archive X acrylics for my next bucket build. Nice job!

      @@brungerbuilds I have no idea! I have bought matte playing cards to make my own swatches for testing (as well as a book to keep them in). I live in Texas and any painting I do is outside in a really hot garage. I'ts now October and I'm just now getting into temperature ranges where I want to go paint and sand. But I also have family activites almost every weekend....One day though I'll get the lid out and do some airbrushing.

    As someone who just invested in 2 whole new cans of 2 in 1 Sandable filler primer... I am in awe of the latest findings.
    Ive been using it for as long as I've been painting my prints and I really was put off by how it fills gunks up the sand paper so I just started using more and more new scraps of sand paper lol (I noticed it got a little better when I put and AC in my garage, but with how rainy its been where I live the humidity is hit or miss. Ill have to give the regular one a try!

    Fantastic work. Love this one. How do you scale for your head?

    • @brungerbuilds
      @brungerbuilds  2 месяца назад +2

      Thank you! I’ve got a longer nose so my main concern is always that sizing rather than my actual dome haha. I took measurements of my head using two speed squares while leaning against the wall. One lays against the wall while I bring the other one at a 90 degree angle to stop at my nose while resting flat against the first one. I then take the reading from that first square and input that into blender using a 3D model of a head. I did the same for ear to ear and then roughly size my helmets off that head blank favoring the measurement from the back of my head to the tip of my nose
      Hopefully that makes some sense! 😅

    I hadnt thought of this before, but now the kill strips bother me lol.
    By rights they should all show differences in weathering and possibly color, depending on what was available whenever he added one.
    Plus by rights and lore, he should probably have a hell of a lot more of em.
    But i guess it could be retconned as he added them early in his career, and eventually realized that his bucket was never going to have the room to keep a count.
    So he abandoned the habit, and all the ones he did have had been there long enough to fade to about the same place.
    Awesome build all around. It really looks fantastic.

    I’m trying wood filler for the first time. I have tried every method out there except wood filler. Bondo… xtc3d… just tons of filler primer… etc.. I just added some water to a cup and mixed wood filler to the consistency of like a milkshake and painted it on. It dried very fast and I sanded it all off pretty much… almost ready for filler primer.. this stuff makes tonnsssss of dust.

    • @brungerbuilds
      @brungerbuilds  27 дней назад

      Nice! Its definitely dusty, but at least it’s not “destroy your lungs” dusty like bondo or resin 😅
      I rigged a simple dust collector with an inline duct fan and hvac filter inside a cardboard box that i sand over to keep the dust down. Definitely helps, but I still sand with a mask on!

    • @brungerbuilds
      @brungerbuilds  2 месяца назад +1

      Here or there I kind of agree with you, but if you look at the weathering on the original prop, it’s a pretty similar shaping since I assume they were using a similar technique to get the multi layer chipping. Thanks for watchin!

    How does the wood putty do on finer details, and how durable is it long term?
    Ive been using spot putty on my builds, and it works fine, but if i can cut out some hazardous chemicals, and get the same results im totally in.
    And btw, im totally going to steal the idea of the green tint to keep the black from looking so stark.

    • @brungerbuilds
      @brungerbuilds  Месяц назад +1

      Thank you!
      I haven't really done any stress testing as far as the wood putty is concerned (my helmets just sit on a shelf) but I imagine something like bondo would be a hair tougher and maybe a hair better on fine details. I haven't had any issues so far though as long as I let the wood filler fully dry before sanding. It does have a tendency to get slightly soft again if exposed to water before being primed, but after priming, I've had no issues with wet sanding.
      All that to say, I prefer not having toxic dust floating around my garage all the time so this is my go to option!

    Great video! What’s the paint to water ratio for the weathering mixture?

    • @brungerbuilds
      @brungerbuilds  2 месяца назад

      Not really sure. Maybe 10:1? Water being the most added and black and brown paint mixed to taste. I always just eyeball it. For a piece like this where I don’t want a ton of paint build up I tend to mix it extra watery, but other times I’ll lower the water so I get a bit more of that build up.
      The nice thing about this stage is there’s no need to be extremely calculated since real weathering happens very organically/ randomly out in nature. Hope that helps!

    • @Jam_66
      @Jam_66 2 месяца назад

      @@brungerbuilds awesome, thank you! Good to know other painters just eyeball their washes too. I wasn’t sure if other creators have certain ratios they follow or not, so thanks for clearing that up :)

      @@brungerbuilds I see. She uses “Elmer's E914 Carpenter's Color Change Wood Filler” and absolutely swears it the very best. Seems to know her shit. Also highly recommends a “foot callus sander”, which seems to be a real time saver. Apparently doesn’t get fast enough to melt the prints. “Upgrade Electronic Foot File Grinder (Speed Adjustable) “

    • @brungerbuilds
      @brungerbuilds  2 месяца назад +1

      Yeah I’ve watched a bunch of her stuff and she’s really great! I actually bought that callus sander when I first started because she recommended it, but in my opinion it’s kind of unnecessary. I’ve never had a print so rough that it needed such intensive sanding before filling, and for the few times I have needed a quick rough sand, I’ve always found it easier to do by hand. The callus sander’s surface area is so small and finicky that it’s hard to get a good feeling for the shape of the piece as I move around it. I sand almost everything with a flat, open hand and I think having that tactile feedback of the piece under your fingers is key to getting a consistent, even surface. To each their own though!
