I'm almost 27 years old, been in countless fitness classes, every time I told an instructor "I can't do push ups my wrists can't bend that far back" they'd just tell me to do a plank and wait out the push ups part. I have been waiting for this video my ENTIRE LIFE, thank you so so much
You may know that Plank is very dangerous and shouldn't be done by anyone?
@@deus4541 sources?
I am so angry to hear that, it seems that they didn't listen to you at all, these instructors should focus on a better education of their protégés! Hope you feel better now and stay healthy!

Just search for "Athlean x Plank"
After a few years of inactivity and a sedentary lifestyle, I was very surprised when I could no longer do the basic pushups that came easy before. This definitely helped with the pain, hopefully doing this daily will strenghten my wrists so I can keep going
This is the video I've been needing and searching for...for years! Thank you
So glad it helps!
Where did you search? I am really curious :). For me it is obvious what to do, but i am learning from videos like that, that a lot of people are having issues where the solution could be so "easy" :).
I coach swimming. We do poolside exercises (“dryland”), I thought I knew heaps of stuff. I would give a routine without really knowing the reasons or the benefits. But now through your watching and learning from you clear well thought out videos, you are helping me and my team to better fitness. This translates to better athletes and better swimming results. THANKS!!!
You are a godsend. Thank you... I've never been able to do pushups and have many old injuries from years of dancing and other injuries from high school. I have wrist pain from dancing and hope this will help. I've never heard advice like yours. Thank you for speaking in a language I can clearly understand. It was very helpful.
ok, i had to stop at 1:13, i didn't know wrists could do that. i had to stop pushups (i was doing them good form) due to wrist pain and a feeling of tiredness or a "not rightness". now, i'm ready to start the video again.
This is very helpful.
Chloe Ting's shred challenge hurt my wrists so much 😭

Awesome video - I've had wrist pain for the last six months and this is exactly what i needed - thanks!
So glad it helps!
Wow after years of wrist pain, I've watched only the first few minutes of this and tried it during my next workout and could tell a huge difference. Thank you thank you thank you!
I started following you few months back I must say love how you explain why certain things work and certain things don't. Thank you so much, keep up the good work and wish you all the best ❤️
Thank you thank you thank you for this!!! I have been having issues with my right wrist and back of my right forearm and asking a doctor in my family she just said, "well stop doing pushups then" and I'm like I get that, but I don't want to just stop doing things; I want to correct the problem. You've given ways to still do the movements while not causing further injury as well as ways to hopefully correct it. Thank you so much for addressing this in this manner!!
Holy cow this was immensely informative, thorough and so helpful! Thank you for all the that you put into this. I feel better already!
Thank you! So glad it helped Dan!
2:34 Yep, this was my exact pushup. Changed the way I did and it felt much better. Thank you so much you helped me.

Amazing video! Thank you so much for tackling this subject! The pain I experience during push-ups/planks/yoga is on the top of the wrist in the center when it's bent at the normal 90 degree angle. Which of these physical therapy exercises you discussed should I focus on to correct this? Some or all?
awesome thank you
Thank you for the detail and in depth explanation! So enjoy your video week to week!!
Thank you Rowena! Glad it helped!
Very helpful, thanks!
Thank you so much!!!
THANK YOU!!
Awesome wrist strength strategies. Thank you!
No more spoiling my push-up progress 😊
I needed this so much! Thank you!
This was very helpful. One of my wrists has reduced range from surgery and I use the fist down and the dumbbell modification, but using the correct hand position is something I haven’t been consistent with.
I love your understanding of kinesiology. In college (as a pre-med major) in the 70’s I took kinesiology courses to improve my understanding. These stretches for the wrist and the types of push-ups you describe are things I studied. We did A LOT of pushup in martial arts and often used these modifications (especially the knuckle push ups). You have great videos and provide a great service. I am now 69 years old and am using your videos to get my core back in shape (especially during this COVID crisis0). Thank you very much. I do have one problem that maybe you could help on in a later video. My ankles are fairly stiff and make it difficult to sit back on my heels during yoga or what the call seiza position. Can you do a video on exercises to stretch and strengthen ankles?
Thank you Stephen! I'm so glad the videos help! Here's an ankle mobility series to help: redefiningstrength.com/prevent-foot-and-ankle-pain-try-this-series/
Thank you!
One important thing for us people who get into fitness as adults. Needing to develop strength in the arms in one thing, but we have to overcome problems in the elbows, wrists, knees, etc.
Thank you for this great video!
Your videos are "my food" too when I have breakfast and dinner ♥️ and this format is great!!! The last tip about extensor is very helpful ❣️❣️❣️
So glad it helps Beastette! A little fun as you eat!?

Just what i needed on the point! ❤❤❤❤ thankyou so much! 😘
As old age sneaks up on us, exercise and stretches are really important, I've noticed my wrist flex reducing over the last couple of years. Will have to see how this goes.
Great explanation . . .I really like how you explain WHY you recommend a certain part of the execution. Just started back to push ups again; this will help. LOVE your channel!
Thank you so much Dan! I think it's so key we understand the WHY to know why and when something may or may not work for us!

Thank you! Glad to finally know what to do with my painful wrists!
Glad it helps Lisa!
Super informative! Great video, thank you!
THIS I will rewatch a couple times. I was doing planks yesterday and I remember thinking how my wrists are weak. I needed to figure out what I am doing wrong. Proper form is everything. OT: I was in the weight room when a guy was lifting 30 lbs dumbbells. Then he came over to me to complain how he had injured his wrist prior and how his wrist was in great pain. I asked him why would he lift heavy weights or at all, until his wrist got better. He shrugged. I won’t exacerbate an injury. But I do notice when I am reticent about doing an exercise, it is because I know in my head, there has to be a better way. Thanks so much‼️
So glad it helps! So I actually go a little more into planks specifically in the article I wrote to go with it - redefiningstrength.com/wrist-pain-with-push-ups-these-tips-and-exercises-will-help/ It's key we do figure out ways to work around as we build up. Sometimes it is simply CUEING a move differently, sometimes it is adjusting the variation used. But it's key we don't get stuck on the "best" move and instead focus on our needs and goals!
Thank you! Have suffered for years without improvement. Will try everything.
Your videos are very helpful & very clear. Thanks!
I love love love your stuff!! It's refreshing to watch fitness videos that aren't plagued with the presenters personal life!
hehe thank you! And whaaat!? You mean my fitness obsession can't be my personal life too?! ;-P

Thank you. Great info. I especially liked the suggestion to use the rolled up mat during pushups.
Just the gripping the ground tip already helped a lot. Thanks!
Thank you for the video, it's very helpful
the mat idea is very smart. Thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Flexibility is key
Thanks! This is great knowledge and instruction for older folks.👏👍
Great vdo, and explanation. Especially how to modify the pushups and do alternative exercises for the muscle groups, chest, shoulders, triceps used in the standard pushups. And how to increase wrist mobility and stregthen wrists and address the pain felt in wrists. Cheers. 👍
Your Channel absolutely useful THANK YOU VERY MUCH 👍
Very very underrated video. Thank you so much for the info, extremely helpful
Great tips. Thank you. Gripping the floor was an eye opener for me.
I’ve been meaning to ask this question in the Facebook group; I’m super glad this video came up in my feed. I notice when doing push-ups or even plank positions with my palms on the ground, that my right arm and shoulder slightly tilt back while my left arm does most of the work. I’ve been trying my hardest to catch myself and fix the posture but I just don’t have the strength or ability in my right wrist to hold myself up for any length of time. I sometimes do push-ups in neutral positions or any exercise that requires me to put weight on my right wrist. I didn’t think this would be considered proper form so I’m really happy to see that I’m still getting the benefits of the exercise even if I’m using my fist to anchor myself. I’m gonna work on some of the stretches and exercise mentioned in the video! I’m 40 now and my body just doesn’t work as it used to. I watched a video on lower back pain and realized I wasn’t strong enough in my core and glut area for most of the exercises I was doing. Working through your program and doing some of the extra stuff you mentioned in the video on lower back pain has transformed me. I can tell I’m getting stronger and the pain is completely gone. I am so excited for the possibility of being wrist pain free. Thank you for Your videos and the helpful information you share with us.
Brilliant video, thank you
Thank you!
Thank you! ♥️ Starting to from today as my wrists are killing me
