YES! Please help me learn Japanese! I just started learning how to read and write Hiragana about a week ago, it's very gratifying. It makes me feel slightly cultured. Lol

I would love to see a Learn Japanese type series. I studied Japanese for four years in high school and had the opportunity to travel over to Japan twice in High School. Since then however I haven't been able to keep up with it and would love a refresher course to get back into. Get on it Meg! ;)
Re: Ideas for pillow design - How about the frame of your glasses, front on? It's a nice bold, simple shape that should be doable in one piece. You could even use the same orange background as before, since it matches your fab hat with the ears.

Just take a few days (a week tops) and just learn hiragana and katakana at the same time, order is trivial. You have +- 3000 kanji to learn with all their different pronunciations and meanings, not even mentioning the combinations of those kanji. Those two alphabets are just what you need to know in order to really start learning Japanese. They may seem foreign at first, but if you just keep on writing them and quizzing yourself (Japanese > sound, then sound > both alphabets (write them down, you will need to do this hundreds of times to get them perfect (yes, perfection is required. one line out of place and it is completely wrong), beware the stroke order, get this wrong and the entire symbol is considered wrong), then just write both alphabets in their entirety and check if you are right. Keep alternating between the ones you are having problems with and the entire alphabets). Write with mechanical pencils for the required precision. I studies Japanese under a few native Japanese teachers for a while so trust me on these things. You will get the hang of it if you persevere. Perseverance and lack of talent WILL beat any naturally talented but lazy people. If you are sick of learning for a while at least repeat what you have learned (writing exercises also) or you WILL forget a lot!

Japanese is a great language to learn. I was in the first Japanese class ever offered at my high school, and it was a great experience. We learned the way you suggested, but we couldn't get completely into Kanji because of the time restraints of a class in high school. I took 2 years of it and the week after I graduated spent 3 months in Osaka on a student exchange program. The best experience of my life and I too have a Daruma doll with one eye for when I go back to Japan. It makes me smile to think we have those things in common.

Im the same about marriage. Being bisexual doesnt mean I want both sexes at once. It means I wanna find the right person, just one, to be with. No matter which sex it is.
For the Japanese related, I think it'd be cool to teach us some common phrases, questions, etc. I'm planning on going back to Japan in a few years so I'd like to know a little more. For the pillow, the assassin symbol would be cool or maybe something Sailor Moon?
I definitely wanna learn Japanese, and I already know a little bit, but I feel like I don't have enough time to learn it.
I've heard the best way to learn any language is through actually conversation, like we learn our own language; through actual use, not just memorization.
So if there's some way you could include casual Japanese conversation into a segment, I think it would be very beneficial!

For which to learn first with regards to Japanese, learn Katakana if you're coming to Japan very soon (it will be useful immediately for survival). Learn Hiragana if you are studying abroad.

Your next pillow should be something pokemon related. The easiest option would probably be a pokeball, but you could also do a random pokemon like charmander or pikachu.
I'm actually a Canadian in Germany right now... I'm trying to learn German, but starting to get waist-deep in confusing grammar. It would be amazing to hear it from you.

In school we learnt hiragana then katakana then kanji. I'd agree with Meg to learn that way because Westerners tend to find katakana harder than hiragana and hiragana is more essential. With kanji, not even the Japanese know every single kanji.

Managed to track down that article. Yeah, it was derogatory, but the author made some pretty good points. Feminists complain about the lack of women in game development; game developers are BEGGING women to join, offering them women-only scholarships, better work compensation packages available only to women; so where ARE all of the women in game development? Hint: writing articles for Cosmo complaining about the lack of women in game development...

I took japanese classes in highschool and they taught us hiragana then katakana and we didn't even start kamji until year two. I thought that was a pretty good way to do it but that's just me. Just curious but have you watched the anime "blue gender" it's my absolute favorite so I'd love to hear what you have to say. Please like this as I'm not sure she's seen any of my comments. :(

Hey Meg, I would suggest that you look up a book called The 4 Hour Chef by Tim Ferris. I know the name sounds like a cook book, which it is, but in it he talks about more than just cooking. In it he talks about the way he learned japanese in a year using a method called DiSSS. Particularly of interest is the 80/20 method and MED (Minimum Effective Dose). I think it would help anyone learn any language faster (he learned spanish in 8 weeks). Let me know how it works out for you.

Meg, if you want to do a table talk, when you get your new computer, you could do one with some fans via Skype chat or some other program....would certainly mean that more people could participate. Though you would run into quality issues etc....I really didn't think that through.

How about anime reviews? We recomend shows and you review it. Not like sourcefednerd where it's limited to just netflix anime but all shows. You could do it maybe every 2 weeks/monthly, i say that because it's better to review a show after you've seen the whole thing. That or we can learn japanese as you learn. Love you Meg

I don't study Japanese, but isn't Kanji practically just memorization in some cases? so wouldn't it be the best to just practice Kanji AND hiragana/katakana (though I don't know how long it takes to learn hiragana/katakana properly, doubt it's all that much considering you're just learning a new set of symbols.)
