Plaster of Paris in Resin - What a Surprise?

  • This video is about Plaster of Paris in resin. I was really surprised what happened, I don't think I could have guessed the outcome in the end. I enjoy pushing the boundaries of resin and adding things to it to achieve a different effect. I knew what I was hoping would happen when adding Plaster of Paris to my resin, but not sure I was ready for this outcome.

That is the clearest indication that you are an artist, rather like when you never, as a dancer, show up to an audition with a new pair of shoes. They should be worn and tattered or no one is going to believe you have put in the work you have. Artists are the same. An apron should be trashed, or a shirt, or whatever, all covered in paint, glue, resin, glitter and whatever else. Good on you!

    I tried to add acrylic paint color to Plaster of Paris and it weakened the plaster so much that the plaster crumbled. I am curious about your method of mixing resin with the plaster to strengthen the plaster mixture when acrylic paint is added. Based on your video it appears that the resin kept the plaster strong while also being able to color tint the mixture. I need pink plaster. There is nothing I am aware of that will color plaster pink except acrylic paint, which weakens the plaster, as I already mentioned. Is your method using resin and plaster and color going to do what I need it to do: plaster + resin + acrylic paint color = Strong acrylic paint colored plaster?

  • @notebookluvr
    @notebookluvr 3 года назад +1

    I really get drawn to your videos because I think that a lot of people are like me and scared to experiment on our own. I love seeing how these things turn out. It would be even better to know how durable these things are because I know that when you displace resin with other things (by adding things to resin, this is what you're doing), it creates spaces between the resin and causes the bond to be weaker and the piece can break easier. A lot of people work with resin to sell things made with it and durability is important for that reason. I don't actually use a lot of resin myself, I make and sell molds. But any information about different techniques with resin I can find is helpful because I can share it with my customers who have questions.

      Hi, I am going through and reading all the comments. Someone else asked about mixing the pop with water per pop instructions, then adding resin, and the reply from a reader said resin does not set up right when mixed with water. I know that in the first batch with pop and resin, it was just the pop powder. The one with pigment added made it hard to see if it was powder or wet. So, I see why you asked the question.

    So I'm a bit confused and video didn't show it. Did you mix water with the plaster of paris before you mixed with the resin, or did you add the dry powder plaster of paris to the resin? If you could explain a bit further it would be appreciated Thanks

      Hi you must never have water with your resin to will ruin it. He just put in dry plaster into the resin. ☺

    Have you got through the chemistry of this.
    As the plaster needs water you actually use it only as a filler and having in mind that it's not cheap, you can use cheaper powders as flour , fine sand or marble dust
