  • The A Major Sonata from Bréval's Op. 40 set, c. 1795.
    I. Allegro
    II. Tempo di Menuetto (4:56)
This is the 5th sonata in Bréval's Op. 40, and just a treat to play and listen to. Beginning with a standard sonata form Allegro, Bréval chooses a similar form for the second movement but with the title "Tempo di Menuetto." This adds a charm to the second movement that contrasts the fast and jubilant first movement. Cellists will be able to work on open hand positions with the "forward extension" technique in key areas of A Major, E Major, and enjoy a very surprising tonicization of C Major!
We are playing off of an urtext edition, Edition Güntersberg, with bowings edited.
