I have known and loved this piece since I was a child, thanks to my father having a recording of it on a 78 rpm record.
This was played at the memorial service for my grandma and whenever I hear it I think of her. It's such a beautiful piece

Exactly. Look at all the keyboard experts. This was at a chamber music festival. You get together and play a bunch of different stuff with different people. It's sort of like sophisticated sight reading. It's not supposed to be a recording.

Agreed; this is exquisite! And Beethoven's mastery of the combination of these two instruments is superb. If any piece of music is capable of soothing the heart of the savage beast, it is this one.

We were blessed in San Diego CA to have Cynthia as our principle violist in SD symphony. She has performed many times at La Jolla Charmber Music Festival. Her career goes on w/ NY Phil. I've been blessed to perform this Duo in many
odd locations including the Claremont campus in Pasadena outdoors surrounded by famous art work. Thanks for posting!

Fantastic - one of my favourite pieces. I first performed it in 1971 ? with Jean Gubbins at the Birmingham Art Gallery, UK, as part of the Midland Chamber Group concerts. This is a lovely performance!

Nobody has noticed that they should be using eyeglasses? "Duet mit zwei obligaten Augengläsern" is better translated as "Duet with mandatory use of eyeglasses". A joke from Beethoven with the obligato term.
I HAVE SEEN THIS VIDEO SO MANY TIMES. I SAW A CONCERT LAST SUNDAY AND HE WAS PLAYING IN A TRIPLE CONCERTO AND HE WAS SO GOOD SO I GOOGLED HIS NAMe. TURNS OUT IVE ALREADY SEEN HIM. That's so cool :)
Here I am in Grapevine, TX, waiting for my dear granddaughter to finish with her dance class, reading the Thayer book on Beethoven. Just read where B dedicated this wonderful duo to his dear friend, Nicklaus Zmeskall. And am able to listen to this outstanding performance from my phone. And so enjoying the performance and the comments of y'all.🌺❤️

+MrCellissimo So what on how she is playing the viola, 1st class performance, I was at a live recital of this work yesterday and it sounded just as good, did not really notice how the viola player held the viola, btw way that player was principal viola player with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orcestra

They were supposed to use eyeglasses. It was a joke from Beethoven "Duet mit zwei obligaten Augengläsern" is better translated as "Duet with mandatory use of eyeglasses". Obligato means an instrumental part of a piece that is fundamental and should never be omitted or changed.
