- One Piece is cool, you all should get into One Piece. It has a great story, cool characters and a fantastic worldbuilding AND some pretty neat videogames. In this game I'll talk about the musou games and compare them to one another, specifically 3 and 4 since those are always argued to be the best ones.

Removing Garp as a playable characters in 4 didn't make any sense. He's still in the game, just not playable it's so weird

It's because of the new system. Garp had alot of grabs with his moves so he couldn't do shit to enemies with their shields up. It works when a character has a single grab but Grap had multiple.
If they ever make a pirate warriors when One Piece offically ends, I'd like to see them including every single major arc and character from pre to post timeskip
Honestly, if any company will still be alive when One Piece finally ends, it will be Koei Tecmo.

You said everything I felt about PW4. PW3 is by far my favorite One Piece and Warriors game. PW4 needed some more time,not adding the other arcs of the story and missing DLC costumes,including past costumes really hurt it. There’s a reason “PW3” is a Greatest Hits game,because it’s a complete game with lots of replayability.

Making it so that Doflamingo's most powerful move, Godthread, cannot be used while in full force burst, because you become a sky type and Godthread can only be used on the ground, was the biggest fuck up in PW4.

The one thing I really don't understand about OPW4 is the same thing I don't get about the upcoming One Piece RPG; Why, with everything that gets cut or skipped, is Alabasta never skipped? if you're going to skip over Arlong Park (something that I feel is very important to Nami's arc), Water 7, Skypiea and Thriller Bark, why does Alabasta get to stay?
If I had to make a wild guess it's probably because Alabasta is one of the most popular arcs from One Piece and it's also pretty long so there's a lot of content to extract from it, same case with Vivi and Crocodile, people LOVE them so they have to be shown yes or yes.
Alabasta was also yhe first really HUGE arc and milestone in One Piece and many things that were introduced in it are still relevant to modern One Piece. Skypiea is a great arc and Eneru is my favorite villain in the series but Skypiea and Thriller Bark simply aren't as iconic or important. Water 7 usually just gets rolled up into one with Enies Lobby

i think the reason that the majority of one piece fans prefer PW3 is that there feels like there’s more, even if there isn’t. i was so shocked to see that skypiea, thriller bark, impel down, punk hazard, east blue, fishman island, were all removed. WHY??? even if you don’t want to make whole arcs just make them extra levels to explore as an extra mode or whatever. it’s so disappointing to see iconic characters get replaced with… smoothie, germa 66, and others. i prefer the gameplay in PW4 but PW3 feels like a more complete adventure.

I just got into this series via the manga about a month ago, I'm at Thriller Bark and I got curious as to how the anime games were, these two games really interested me because I'm not a big fighting game person, so thank you for this really informative video! I'm gonna play them when I catch up as I don't wanna spoil certain arcs for myself beyond Thriller Bark!

The stamina system being as aggressive and fun as it is, along with the focus on aerial combat made PW4 such a unique treat to play. I loved it, and I don't even like OP to begin with.

The randomness of 3 is the whole reason why I missed dream log I comepletly agree but I like 4 overall still I miss dream log so much
If they ever make 5th game, I hope that they make attacks that target one enemy, actually target the one I want.

Yeah, I agree for the most part. However, 4 does benefit from its increased focus on the arcs kept and the boss fights.
I've played about 260+ hours of OPPW3 between 2 versions, and only played 6 hours of 4, waiting to get up to date on OP, so I think it isn't a fair comparison between the two, but while I liked the revamped combat in four, adding combat in the air and the more powerful dash, I still prefer the combat in 3 simply because of the dash letting me cancel any action. Using Luffy or especially tashigi, they're so fast and it was a bit jarring going to 4 (at least tashigi is speed type and uses less stamina, so definitely still maining her), and the characters omitted were kind of a bummer, but personally the characters removed are some that I haven't played as much, so I'm not totally pissed.

Honestly after still searching for Pirate Warriors 3 (for Vita) I would love to see some other underlings or villains to get more love in the future. Maybe Mohji or Cabaji from Buggy's crew or other members from Baroque Works as playable characters.

I have watched the entire video, and while I do agree with most of it, I think you heavily overlooked 3's most important mechanics, kizuna rush and dash canceling
While you did explain well how Kizuna Rush works, you didn't get as in depth as you could, Kizuna Rush is a masterful mechanic both gameplay and design wise
Using Kizuna Rush allows you to use moves of which you still don't have access, these moves are also in a stronger more impactful version of themselves, so they create both this hype and expectation, and then you unlock them, you enter Kizuna Rush, do the same combo and you learn there's a yet another version to unlock, I'll never forget how I felt when I first saw Gomu Gomu no Flail to Yagi the first time, it's that powerful of a feeling, making it the best type of "Musou mode" of any musou games
Not only that, but it's fucking mandatory, you probably haven't tried to complete Nightmare Log, but mate, you can't without using Kizuna Rush, and yet again, it's design is a masterpiece and the feel of it, is simply perfect, the choice of which friend to focus your kizuna build (don't have a better name for it) is perfect, this idea of using the same one bc its assist finishers are great or switching to another for a while to build a little bit more, or keeping one unused to do 2 Kizuna Rushes one after another with the second one lasting is something that will be on your mind constantly, but also, the specific effects that you get from each one, like, if you do a Kizuna Rush with a character that is family to your character in any form, Luffy and Ace for example, you slow down the game's time, or you get character that are attracted somehow, like Luffy and Boa Hancock, you get I think invulnerability really gives that building feeling of getting stronger as you progress the level
The other mechanic I think you should've focused waaay more is dash canceling, simply put, each attack in the whole game is cancelable at startup with a dash, and each dash can cancel into another attack, what that means is that, say you have a really good string to use, but it's start is really slow and let you vulnerable, just dash cancel the first attacks and do the second half or finish, you can do that with 0 repercussions, and again, it's not something optional, it's god damn mandatory to do, and I've noticed from your footage that it's not something you did, at least not as much, but try to do nightmare log without it, good luck friendo; this dash cancel mechanic is what truly differentiates OPPW3 from any other Musou ever, the fact that you can move while doing and entire string to use it's finisher at a huge crowd, or start a string from afar and get at the face of the enemy with the rest of it, since dash cancels also get you closer to enemies, or my favorite, skipping the slow part of grab strings to just the grab part for that extra disrespect on the boss
In summary, the gameplay differences from 3 to 4 are much deeper than you put in your video, yes, the dash is a cool addition for 4, you can skip entire stages, which is one of my main complains with 3, but having it instead of the amount of shit you can do on 3 is simply not worth it, for example, Tashigi's unique action that you complained at the start, watch a Nightmare Log S-rank gameplay with her, anyone that's good at the game that is, and watch how they use her unique action for movement in a way no character can move in this game
Also, if I did sound rude, was not my intent at all, I really liked your video, just felt like I needed to complement on that point, it's really that much of a difference, and OPPW3 is my favorite Musou game by far, I have almost 300 hours of it, currently trying to get every single character to max stat
Wow! Very good analysis!! To me, PW4 was a massive downgrade as well. I loved the Kizuna Rush feature and having side characters come to assist. I really think the only mistake PW3 made was not having more/better DLC. G4 Luffy should have definitely been featured in PW3 as DLC. From there, they should have made NPC support characters like Monet, Vergo, Hody Jones, Sentomaru, Koby, Sadi (with the devil fruit animals), etc playable. PW3 could have easily had 3-4 season passes and I would have easily paid another $60 for all these characters. G4 Luffy should have definitely been DLC for PW3; Big Mom, Katakuri, Kaido, and Snakeman Luffy would have easily been enough marketing for PW4 (imo).
PW4 took SOOOOOO many steps backwards, it’s so unfortunate. For one, I feel like the music is better in PW3. The giants were a really cool edition in PW4, but the smaller enemies feel WAAAAAY too weak. You could feel yourself hitting regularly-sized human Marine fodder in PW3.. in PW4 they are just fodder to fill up your special attack/transformation meter. The small enemies feel like paper. It gets very repetitive. And of course, the flying and giant features did NOT transfer over as well to some of the more minor characters as it did for the main selling characters (Luffy, Big Mom, Kaido, Katakuri). Tbh, I think even iconic “Sky Type” characters like Sanji, Kizaru, and Marco are way more fun & cleaner to play as in PW3 than they are in PW4. The only “Sky Type” that I really feel converted well is Luffy’s G4 Awakening form.
Well anyways, we just got announced a new Season Pass for PW4 which is GREAT for the franchise. I hope if they make PW5 in a few years, it’s a next-gen console exclusive game that can truly push the potential of the new consoles. Because imo, PW4 took too many steps backwards.
@@FlyingMonetYes, i agree completely. I hate how weak the fodder feels in OPPW4. It was way more satisfying in OPPW3 clobbering a group of them then smashing them away towards other enemies, you could feel the weight. I still play OPPW3 for this reason and the characters that didn't come back.
Yeah, I’ve been thinking about this a bunch lately. While I do really like all of the improvements that they made with PW4, it’s a lot of the downgrades that really rub me the wrong way. I never have enough money or common medals, so I feel like I’m always wasting skill points on skills to boost those. They got rid of individual leveling up for characters and made the growth maps, which sound cool on paper but it means that I never really need to use a character to get them leveled up. And I’m not a fan of that. I really liked being able to level up a character in the middle of a hard level. It always felt really nice. It definitely bothered me that they removed a bunch of interesting characters like Perona, and then replaced them with Sanji’s three brothers who play so identically it’s insane. A lot of the new characters are fun and it is really nice to see old characters get improvements, but still. I remember starting PW4 and seeing that the game starts in Alabasta, but only like half of the Strawhats get their PTS costumes… That was the moment that I knew the game was rushed.
Both of the combined games are a blast though they all have their own pros and cons after all!!
I'm so glad they are doing another season pass for this game. Current Luffy and Yamato needed in this game, and Uta is gonna be so cool to play.
So sadly pirate warrriors 3 on the pc does indeed have major issues specially on the later levels. The way to counter this is to move the event and movie folder completely from the directory its in to another one. So your SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\OPPW3\FILE_DX9 will need the movies and events folder moved from there to another. Ironically it does not remove much of the events and it just makes it so the game plays with like half the movies.
That one thing is what was causing much of the port issues from what I saw and researched. I do wish it ran smoother but still one of my favorite one piece games.
I did just get 4 so am gonna give that a try after watching this video....was trying to 100% 3 but its really really really grindy.

I've never watched one piece in my life but, the men are hot and those streams where really fun, even as someone that isn't interested in one piece I'll be willing to try these games just by looking at them.

Tashigi unique action in Pirate Warriors 3 is actually 3 unique action (neutral, during a combo, during a combo + direction), while the neutral one is quite bad (although it can almost charge your kizuna bar to full if it lands), the other 2 allow you to do infinite combo or reposition or quickly get in range to stun a weakened ennemy. So quite good imo.
I’m a huge fan of the Pirate Warriors franchise, and I think PW3 was better. In PW4 the smaller enemies almost seem like paper and you’re basically just flying around the map. It feels awkward, because characters like Zoro, Nami, Tashigi, etc. don’t even fly so it comes off as sort of lazy. In PW3 the characters felt more unique from one another imo. I hope PW5 is a next gen exclusive and they’re able to push the game to its limit. I think the music in PW3 is better than PW4 also.

i love how in pirate warriors 3 if your playing luffy and team with the other straw hats you can stay in the boost mood lot longer (its fun on law)

Haven't watched the video yet so I don't know if you address it, but one reason I find OPPW3 the better game is how much more impactful and cinematic some of the moves are. For one, the enemies you smash away feel like they have more weight and it's satisfying slinging them into other enemies during a kizuna rush to get the !'s. In addition to that, many moves in OPPW3 have cinematic parts like Luffy's headbutt, Zoro's r1 ability (during kizuna), and some of Sanji's kick combos.
0:55 It's espically cool how in one of kaido's attack string's in PW4 after he does a roar he leap's up and fall's, which Im pretty sure is a reference to him leaping off skypiea. (PLEASE DONT CLOWN ON ME IF IM WRONG PLEASE DONT CLOWN ON ME IF IM WRONG PLEASE DONT CLOWN ON ME IF IM WRONGGGGG)
Also just wanna share my really really OP kaido build: Skill's: Square and triangle attack enhancement. Undying, indomitable spirit. power overwhelming. (I think I could replace power overwhelming give a suggestion.) And for move's, asura stomp, thunder bagua, great roar. Forgot to say dragon transformation to.

Pirate warriors 3 had a unique haki attack animation especially shanks had the epic boss walk whitebeard, Akainu and Fujitora were AOE monsters and had the game had the best intense theme song called Magma for Akainu.

PW4 should have just been a DLC expansion for 3. Replace the custom Dressrosa with the real story, then add WCI and Wano. Add in the new characters and abilities.
The only thing I felt 4 did better was the skill trees. It was much nicer to just see what characters had what skills you wanted and you could directly work on unlocking those. But with 3 you need spreadsheets of who you need to unlock in what order to do their various challenges in specific orders with a lot of farming to unlock the best abilities to make the rest of the game faster.
I loved the longevity the Dream Log gave to the game- but it was annoying that it was the ONLY place you could unlock many fan favorite characters and you had to grind to do so, and the only place you could do the grinding for the NPC charts with very few guarantees you would even get the NPC's you needed for their ability unlocks. Too much RNG for something that required specific pathing. Nightmare Log was completely unnecessary and dragged the game out more than felt fun eventually.
I always felt that I enjoyed Pirate Warriors 3 over Pirate Warriors 4. The game definitely felt more satisfying to play.
Thinking about it more, I personally believe PW4 is less satisfying to play because of the new ability button mechanic. In PW4, the game is balanced around the player being forced to use up their ability buttons, which makes mindlessly attacking weaker. Doing endless A and B button combos just feels way more satisfying.
A similar thing happened in No More Heroes from 2 to 3, which they basically did the exact same thing. Mindlessly attacking is just more fun in beat-em-up type games, and putting a bunch of ability buttons on screen doesn't really enrich the gameplay at all.
I honestly preferred 4 but watching this made me want to dust off my copy of 3 and give it another go!
3 is a fantastic time burner, it's just so satisfying to play. Hope you have fun!

I think knowing how popular this game is, i can say that Pirate warriors 5 is already in development. I just hope that the next game just focus on the original story not the canon story. Also knowing that PW4 end up with 53 characters i think the next game will come with 55+characters and maybe end up 70+ including dlc. Hopefully they can include azura or kyoshiro, yamato, and king,queen,jack. Also that hybrid kaido form is must and last thing i need is dream log (randomizer island) and single target grab make it into the game

The content far exceeds 4, and the Kizuna Rushes even when they got annoying were still nice. All 4 has is new characters like Katakuri
I played both and enjoyed 3 way more than 4. For me 4 was definitely a mispurchase.
Pirate warriors should of been a series where they keep adding more and more until it’s the definitive way to play the one piece story, but 4 decided to cut and then not add anything more, like it only has 6 arcs and the first 3 still only have the same characters from 1 and 3 and didn’t add any of the left out characters as at least an npc

Goddamn do I love these games. If a 5th game ever happens, I think the best case scenario would be giving us the combat of 4, the game modes of 3 and combining the rosters of both plus even more. Have story mode include all of the arcs and make the movie villains playable.
Pirate Warriors 4 removing leveling up and making combo chains locked behind the coin upgrade system was a step in the wrong direction. It made enjoying the variety of characters much harder because of how often I found myself not having enough coins to unlock a new character's combo chain, whereas in 3, I always had enough zenny to level new characters up and unlock their full combos.
The shortcut system also didn't feel that fun. I'd prefer if jump and boost dodge were on the same button, and what determined which you did was just whether you were tilting the stick when you pressed it. This would have let a face button be used for the "invincible heavy hitting" kind of specials, and if Full Force Bursts were set to a trigger like Kizuna Rush was, then the shortcuts could have been used for all the less powerful specials, which would really cut down on the repetitiveness of gameplay and might have made Technique characters more tolerable to play.
I guess the one piece was the friends we made along the way

I've been going through the Treasure Log trying new characters and Kozuki Oden S Ranks EVERYTHING! My new favourite character and definitely makes sense at the top of your lists.

Yeah, I'm not too big on the DLC of PW4, like, I love Whole Cake but the added characters make the arc more crowded, the Worse Generation pack is full of not very popular characters and others which have barely done anything so far, and the Wano DLC seems lazily slapped in just capitalize on the arc's popularity at the time
This was a really good video. But, I'll have to disagree with you. 4 is rough around the edges, sure, but I still think that the combat is just more fun than 3's. And I think that tech characters can be plenty fun with out necessarily trying to do their set ups. Regardless, I have both games so I'll play both games. Oh, and the DLC characters are some of the most fun in the game imo

3 just had so much to do. You can spend months. 4 i finished in like 15 or 20ish hours idk. It was spilt between 2 weeks and i had finished everything there was to do
im still pissed off that they removed Thriller Bark, as u said having Giant Moria would of been awesome and Perona probably my favourite character in 3 after i figured out how to use her properly, that and the stage itself was also my favourite especially it's theme, Hello Nightmares is probably my favourite piece of music from all of One Piece and it's a shame it wasn't in Pirate Warriors 4.

One of the biggest reasons i like pirate warriors 4 more than 3 are the controls. They are so much better in 4 that i find it hard to go back to 3

So recently PW4 announced new dlc and they did make a fix patch for that game
I love both games, they both have positives and negatives that make both worth playing through as a fan of the series to get best of both worlds, but the one thing that always pisses me off is the removal of content, even worse if they then sell it back to us... (Looking at you Sims... -_-). If you had it in the previous, it should be in the next in atleast some form unless theres a valid reason like lorewise why it isn't. I know One Piece is so big at this point it's hard to include everything in a single game, but, if it's a character for example, even if you've cut most of their part of the story so there's no need for them to be included this time, you should still add them in because you have a base version from before right that should make it 10x easier to practically just copy paste it over and have as a side character if you don't have any other use for it! Sure you gotta do a bit of extra work to get it to fit in properly with the new stuff but come on, that's gotta be way easier than adding a whole new character so just give the job to one of your newbies or something to train them up or I dno, set a small team aside for upscalling and porting content. Removal of content that should be there just feels like a "we couldn't be bothered" and "we don't really care what the fans want".

PW3 is the best Musou game I've ever played. Sure, I had fun with PW4 and all those new characters, but the massive change in mechanics, removal of characters, and triangle combo strings made the game feel like a more shallow experience. Oh, and air combos were and still are a fucking useless idea that added nothing, and actively made the game worse by passively nerfing certain characters and making others depend on it for their full move set.
Boa, by the way, is one of the most crazy broken characters in PW4. So long as you petrify the enemy (even bosses and giant characters), you bypass ALL DEFENSES, and if you cancel out of your combo before her final hit, they will never turn back. So you can just infinity combo cancel until they die. Katakuri can also do this, but it's way less effective, and he is the best character, so he doesn't need to try very hard to kill everything.
Also, Yamato is a woman. She's not trans. Oda put her as a woman in the vivre card data books. This idea is dumb and has been confirmed to have been a translation error from wording and phrasing that doesn't easily translate its nuance to English or other western languages.
I played with Crocodile for the first time yesterday. Didn't enjoy playing as him, I switched to Jimbei just after 5 mins. And the biggest reason was that he didn't have any good aoe attacks.
PW4's combat became Kingdom Hearts. It's a huge exaggeration. The 3 is much better and I advise you to buy physical while you can. 😆

I started with pirate warriors 4 and it was wayyy more fun than I expected I am now moving onto pirate warriors 3 because I hear it is good this is my first experience with musou games

Pw5 needs all the characters from 3 and 4, have all the arcs and give us an official finished wano country arc since it's done in the manga and the anime will wrap it up soon.
It has the potential to surpass 3 and keep the innovation from 4 since most of the characters are done, they just need to bring back the characters from 3 and even make the assist characters playable.
Been playing 4 for few hours but it seems like there're no launch moves that don't launch you up with the enemies. (Sanji)
Pw4 not having a normal leveling system kinda killed my effort
I'd say Technique has less hits than the other class types but theres still plenty who are fun, yes their Burst makes them better but thats not a big deal. I'd almost say sky type are worse because their burst restricts them to sky only moves which locks them out of some of their great ground combos and ground exclusive special moves (doffys birdcage is a big example of that). Power are just the 'Mario' of the game, they're just straightforward

I wish Don Krieg, Arlong, Bon Clay, Bellamy and Kaku were playable. I always felt it weird that for Luffy Red Hawk and Elephant Gun went from being his Supers in 2 & 3 to being combo moves in 4. Also in 4 i find myself questioning a lot whether i even hit someone. Like the impact of hits isn't there like it was in 3. Though i like the Full Force Mechanic more than the Kizuna Rush
For some reason on PW3, I can’t seem to limit break my characters. I am on PS4 and used save wizard to unlock all coins and max level, but I’m still missing the kizuna rush combos.
3 is better. More characters stages and arcs. 4 is great fam service, seems unfinished tho and cut too much stuff.

Base game had so little characters and they decided to lock the others behind a payment. I would understand the newer Wano characters, but Kinemon should have been at least playable here (he was an NPC in 3).

This was the last video I decided to watch before confirming purchase of PW3 and 4 both on PC. Guess I'll never play PW3 so I'll save money and buy PW4. I use dualshock 4 so that's why.
Hopefully you can try 3 at some point. It's really worth it

@@absi49 I have yet to finish PW4, it has spoilers so saving it until I catch up on the anime. It's cool that Joyboy is coming to the game as well as the animated version tomorrow though. I have a series x controller now so maybe I should get PW3? Busy with Baldur's Gate 3 tho
Im playing PW1 on emulator now and i enjoy it much more than 4. All the stages are same in PW4 with terrible camera and bad level design where you have to run from one floor to another and back. Also non-stop popups when game can't even register completed mission in time.
Question, aren't levels in PW1 like more open and dynamic? I think I once saw gameplay about it
@@TheGameShelf Some levels are action-arcade style, some are pure musou stages. And boss stages are actually challenging! So you never feel tired of the same gameplay. PW4 is the worst musou game in my opinion cause even in musou games its always some kind of different missions to do, but in PW4 - its always the same.
One think i like PW4 feature over PW3 is transformation can be trigger anytime once u have enough gauge and not locked behind kizuna rush. I just wish the next PW game have 2 button for special skill. Totaling in 8 extra special skill to use :>
