I've been using this same method, except using rubbing alcohol, to clean my bongs and pipes since I was a teenager... It works SO well! I clean mine about every 3 days or so and it makes it shiny new again! 🤘🙂
I don't like using the acetone it leaves a lil taste afterwards like a acetone my favorite thing to use is 190 proof Everclear And the coarse salt but I also mix the Everclear with 91 % rubbing alcohol half and half in the rubbing alcohol bottle I use that with the salt
I remember growing up I would always find salt and nail polish remover in my bathroom after my sister took a really long shower. Ahh, ignorance is bliss.
I haven't cleaned my glass bowl in about a year and this method was super easy and seriously cleaned it so well! I put tape on all open holes, added regular salt and acetone, and then shook for five minutes straight then rinsed out with hot water and soap! 10/10
Can not cleaning it for that long make you sick? I just bought my first bowl last Monday and I’ve used it every day not really cleaned it but it’s been about a week and I’m kinda sick and I’m wondering if it’s because I inhaled maybe left over shit inside could that be possible or I just have an annoying ass cold?
@@myck7021 Personally, I didn’t get sick from not cleaning it for for almost a year because it wasn’t extremely dirty and i’d usually try to blow out the left overs inside or try my best to dust it out with a spooly cleaning brushes. To me it seems like you could just have a regular cold but i’d assume if you got sick from inhaling all of the left overs, you’d be throwing up and feeling really bad but I am not 100% sure. Hope you feel better tho!

I can tell when I need to clean bc the smoke burns my chest a bit, tastes not great, and I cough way more than usual. Then end up with like runny nose and swollen sinuses. Glass spoon pipes are a more effective way to get high than using regular spliffs & they create less waste because take into consideration that with spliffs you have the packaging that your papers come in as well as also a rolling tray as well as a grinder. While yes you need a grinder to prep for your spoon pipe you won't have as much waste as with spliffs acetone/acetate? it's obvious that you have to be careful with these & you also need some kind of material to cover the holes on the pipe when cleaning it but as a general rule they're less expensive than a regular spliff but obviously you need to take precautions while in public places
It's a real thing.....I never clean my shit...(but it's unhittable so I'm here) I just ALWAYS break them setting them down half assedly while I'm smoking on it..never happens right away, Im usually a few bowls in and then I find myself looking for my fave pipe the next day for a few minutes.
I've had them explode in my hands back in the day. Glassware has changed a lot for the better, in the early sixties and seventies all we had was ceramic or bamboo, stone and meerscham. (SIC) everything was super simple, the pipes got clogged, they got tossed.

This works so well! I like to capture the used up acetone and put it in a zip lock bag and throw it away rather than wash it down the drain. Otherwise, I love having this knowledge, I have wowed a couple of my smoker friends when they came over with their super resinated pipes. One dude was complaining about the amount of time it takes to clean his glass, which is why he never even bothers with it. During his long rant about wasting time, I taped up his pipe, poured in the salt and acetone, shook it up (yeah, bro, no kidding. lots of time, oh yeah), and had it looking brand new back in his hand before he was finished. It was so hilarious to see him stop, mid-sentence looking dumbfounded and sheepish. i sent him the link and apparently he spent less than an hour cleaning about 16 pipes and water pipes. Super effective, will never smoke out of a dirty pipe again. Doesn't taste as good.
Lol, I have a pretty similar story... guy going on and on about how it is bullshit, there's no way, not enough solvent, boiling is the only way, blah blah blah... Brought it back from the dead in about fifteen minutes good as new. It took two runs. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in 5 years. I clean mine so often, It only takes me five minutes or so... and to the haters talking about wasting good resin: I'm an adult, I want a fresh smoke from a fresh pipe. Smoking resin is for frat boys and teenagers.
***** I disagree. I actually like smoking the resin. It's kind of the same feeling I get from brushing out my grinder. It's got a few different strains all combined into one smoking session. It's not something to be smoked all the time, it's just an alternative to me. Just saying not all of us smokers are like you. I have 5 little glass pipes like this. I keep a 1/2 quart plastic jar with lid around, full of rubbing alcohol. Once a week I put a used pipe in, and pull a soaked one out. I rinse that once in water, empty and fill back up with alcohol, add kosher salt, cover the holes with my thumb, 2nd finger and little finger, and shake 30 seconds. Works great.
kosher salt: 3 dollars electrical tape: 2 dollars Bottle of acetone: 6 dollars Boiling your pipe on your dads stove and getting everyone in the house high off resign hydro clouds: PRICELESS
Don't forget about getting sticky, stinky ass black resin all over everything in the surrounding area as well as your hands haha I always hated scrubbing the sink and everything else afterwards

From a laboratory worker, 100% acetone is what we use to clean our glassware--it works better than, say, ethanol or other alcohols because acetone is more polar. It also dries and evaporates away cleanly, which is good because in my lab we're in Cali and we try to cut down on our water waste; we generally do not rinse with water after acetone washes unless we seriously have to. But since you're inhaling through your pipe you might want to just err on the side of caution and rinse with clean water after your acetone rinse so you don't inhale it. It's not immediately toxic but it's probably not pleasant.
Will it work if I leave it in some water mixed with hydrogen peroxide even though peroxide is not an organic solvent? It works on medical grade silicone, removes all stains and smell.
my husband has been using his piece daily for a year and half with out ever cleaning it..not a single time.. He has been complaining about how it is clogged and how he *should* clean it but doesnt... so I decided to give this a try because looking at it grossed me out.. oh my god.. I was not prepared for the disgustingness that ensued.. I didnt wear gloves because I used the last pair the other week and figured "oh it wont be that bad..the video wasnt too bad"... MAN.. it was a disaster BUT it worked SOOOO good. I shook it for about 10-15 minutes. completely clean. took me about 20 minutes to clean my bathtub and hands though.. still have gunk under my nails.. I wish I would have videoed the experience.. a good laugh for sure.
this was a life saver ! I had been working on day 3 of trying to get the gunk out of the head of one of my old bowls I hadn’t used in years. endless cycles of rubbing alcohol later and still nothing. I did this ONCE and it was completely clean and clear. AMAZING !
I have to use this as I do tobacco in my glass (it was free from a friend when I needed a smoke and was out of paper) and Jesua fuck does that gunk them.
First hit off a clean piece is great. You get all them terps and no stinky rez b.s. I have friends that NEVER clean their pieces and it makes even the best tasting stuff taste like b.s. They don't listen to me so they can have all the fun they want smoking tar, literal garbage and dog/miscellaneous hairs without me. And don't even get me started on them and their oil rigs. They don't do high temp dabs, they do sun temp dabs. Then they scorch off the leftover ruined concentrates to "clean" it. Their bangers are black as night and have like a good 1/8th inch or more of caked on, burnt to hell, ruined concentrates. 😤

Super helpful! After the 1st attempt it cleaned out my pipe about 70% (Lets just say my pipe was super dirty lol there was some pretty stubborn residue) but after 3 more attempts it looked brand new! This method works like magic! Thank you so much for sharing😊

I started using glass pipes in late 80s. Tried everything to clean and always ended up with huge mess and several hours of work. So last 10 years I just throw away when to gunked up. @@OGFortyNine it's still residue though. It solidifies once in your lungs (not all of it obviously but a lot does). Same with flower except it's not all residue and not as bad for you as long as it was grown and cured good and without chemicals. That's why every now and then people hock up a black or brown chunk of res just from smoking flower even. I'm a bit of a hypocrite because I used to smoke res just like you described when I was young. So do what you have to do, I just want you to be safe and not get a lung infection, or worse like many I have known. Again, I'm not trying to be a smart ass or belligerent in any way. you can, but acetone is a superior, more polar solvent. alcohol will work, but double your shaking time and do the whole process twice... like I said in the video, acetone works like magic... just go to the the store and buy acetone... you spend good money on good herb... what's an extra few bucks?
That is a clever way to clean, I've been smoking weed in pipes for years. I always clean them, by putting it in the kitchen sink, turn on the faucet to hot, and aim the water in the bowl. You have given me a few ideas I never thought of 😊 thank you
I've always just put about 2 tablespoons of both salt and iso into a zip bag, like a snack or sandwich zip bag, shake like crazy. Cleans inside and out and is a easy clean up, dispose of iso safely, zip bag in rubbish, warm water to rinse pipe. It's how I do the small parts from my bong also. A clean piece is a good piece.

Bro, thank you so much. I tried baking soda and vinegar and nothing. So I tried salt and isopropyl alcohol in a snack bag, shook it for about 3 mins, and it was 98% clean. I ran it another minute under warm water. So it took about 5 minutes total and I don't have to worry about Super dangerous substances like acetone.

I bought a can of acetone at the local home center, poured some in a jar and dropped the pipe in it. Came back after an hour or so and rinsed it with lots of water. No shake, shake, shake needed. Works with metal pipes too!

I used some crushed rock salt and it worked well. The rock salt doesn't desolve too quck and allows abrasion when shaking. The acetone does most of the work. Gloves are important, and I used my fingers to block the holes. No tape needed. Flush well afterwards. Thanks for the tips @tunacrab
Very helpful vid! Just cleaned my first bowl with it and she's looking clear as crystal. I did use Isopropyl in lieu of Acetone, and regular table salt, and it still worked just as well. I did use duct tape (got no electrical) and didn't foresee that the isopropyl would cause the tape to start peeling, so I had to act quickly. So, kinda sloppy, but not a bad job for a first try!
Rubbing alcohol is what I use instead of acetone. Salt is the abrasive. It also helps if you wash out the pipe or bong with hot water first, loose up the resin, then rubbing alcohol and table salt, snake up the pipe or bong, flush out, repeat depending how dirt your rig is. When its as clean as you want it, wash it with warm water, let dry, and enjoy!

I use this same technique, i have just one extra step. After cleaning with acetone submerge your pipe in bacardi 151 for 10mins. It kills the acetone aftertaste.
Had to use alcohol and it was only 70% and regular salt but it did the trick. We had to really work to get underneath the bowl (we're talking 2 years or more of resin there). I have cleaned it periodically these past years but it was just to get it unclogged. This mofo is shining like I just bought it. Fuck yeah man. I nearly lost a lung from chiefing on a "new" pipe but it's all good. Thanks again!
Yeah, it's worth the extra trip to a pharmacy to grab the 90% if you can't find it at the store, works significantly quicker. Ditto on the Kosher salt, more grit= more abrasion= waaay more effective scrubbing agent!

I wish I’d seen this two days ago. I’m off alcohol and weed but remembered the bong has been sitting with filth water in it for months. So I cleaned it for when ever I return or have a friend over. I used bleach, hot water and pipe cleaners. Did the job.
I thought your method was VERY cool but if I my offer... use hot water and 2 of the off brand fizzy denture cleaners let it soak overnight then rinse as you showed. Not as fast as your method but less overhead! I used that and a pipe cleaner for the ultra crusted areas and got the same results. Hope it helps someone!

SO to keep a funny long story short, my buddy and I where hanging out and we where cleaning our bowls out trying to find the best way, this video was the ONE and when I taped my bowl all half ass, my fried mind thought even tho it’s leaky I’ll just shake this STAINING sulution in our clean bathroom (my mom spent a long time preparing for moving and we had a showing the next night) AND I SHOOK MY BOWL AND HELD my hand in the shower and all of the residue stain the bathroom all over and I had no idea until I opened my eyes and look in to the shower and behold a huge mess 😂 HOWEVER my buddy did it just perfectly and had no problem and his bowl went from solid black and stripe to crystal clear and blue stripe and I hade no idea that’s the cleanest I’ve ever seen it. so In the end, I learned that I shouldn’t make actions without thinking first
Meth heads have been using salt to clean out light bulbs for years. Salt is pretty abrasive stuff. All those sharp little edges really go to work. Work made me put my pipe away years ago , but I loved my little toker two.
Mike Burns been doing it for years 91% alcohol from CVS a mason jar I keep all my little pipes in there and believe me when I get one out of every now and then rancid off in the sink it's like brand-spanking-new
Isopropyl alcohol is what’s doing it for you. You should be able to buy it in most pharmacies. Make sure you get 90% unscented. Run the pipe under hot water for a couple seconds, chuck it into a Tupperware container with a good amount of rubbing alcohol give it a good shake repeat until clean, rubbing alcohol does not need to be replaced between rinses in hot water.

I use rubbing alcohol too and it works great, but I'm going to try this acetone thing to see if it's even better.
Alcohol works great . Just soak( overnight if bad ) use pipe cleaner, and rinse.

Glass is very temperate he said use hot water but use the most neutral temperature you can, not hot or cold.

I have 5 little glass pipes like this. I keep a 1/2 quart plastic jar with lid around, full of rubbing alcohol. Once a week I put a used pipe in, and pull a soaked one out. I rinse that once in water, empty and fill back up with alcohol, add kosher salt, cover the holes with my thumb, 2nd finger and little finger, and shake 30 seconds. Works great.

From a laboratory worker, 100% acetone is what we use to clean our glassware--it works better than, say, ethanol or other alcohols because acetone is more polar. It also dries and evaporates away cleanly, which is good because in my lab we're in Cali and we try to cut down on our water waste; we generally do not rinse with water after acetone washes unless we seriously have to. But since you're inhaling through your pipe you might want to just err on the side of caution and rinse with clean water after your acetone rinse so you don't inhale it. It's not immediately toxic but it's probably not pleasant.
Will it work if I leave it in some water mixed with hydrogen peroxide even though peroxide is not an organic solvent? It works on medical grade silicone, removes all stains and smell.

my husband has been using his piece daily for a year and half with out ever cleaning it..not a single time.. He has been complaining about how it is clogged and how he *should* clean it but doesnt... so I decided to give this a try because looking at it grossed me out.. oh my god.. I was not prepared for the disgustingness that ensued.. I didnt wear gloves because I used the last pair the other week and figured "oh it wont be that bad..the video wasnt too bad"... MAN.. it was a disaster BUT it worked SOOOO good. I shook it for about 10-15 minutes. completely clean. took me about 20 minutes to clean my bathtub and hands though.. still have gunk under my nails.. I wish I would have videoed the experience.. a good laugh for sure.

First hit off a clean piece is great. You get all them terps and no stinky rez b.s. I have friends that NEVER clean their pieces and it makes even the best tasting stuff taste like b.s. They don't listen to me so they can have all the fun they want smoking tar, literal garbage and dog/miscellaneous hairs without me. And don't even get me started on them and their oil rigs. They don't do high temp dabs, they do sun temp dabs. Then they scorch off the leftover ruined concentrates to "clean" it. Their bangers are black as night and have like a good 1/8th inch or more of caked on, burnt to hell, ruined concentrates. 😤

After the 1st attempt it cleaned out my pipe about 70% (Lets just say my pipe was super dirty lol there was some pretty stubborn residue) but after 3 more attempts it looked brand new! This method works like magic!

Same with flower except it's not all residue and not as bad for you as long as it was grown and cured good and without chemicals. That's why every now and then people hock up a black or brown chunk of res just from smoking flower even. I'm a bit of a hypocrite because I used to smoke res just like you described when I was young. So do what you have to do, I just want you to be safe and not get a lung infection, or worse like many I have known. Again, I'm not trying to be a smart ass or belligerent in any way. Just lookin out for you, dude.

I've always just put about 2 tablespoons of both salt and iso into a zip bag, like a snack or sandwich zip bag, shake like crazy.
Cleans inside and out and is a easy clean up, dispose of iso safely, zip bag in rubbish, warm water to rinse pipe.
It's how I do the small parts from my bong also.

Bro, thank you so much. I tried baking soda and vinegar and nothing. So I tried salt and isopropyl alcohol in a snack bag, shook it for about 3 mins, and it was 98% clean. I ran it another minute under warm water. So it took about 5 minutes total and I don't have to worry about Super dangerous substances like acetone.

I bought a can of acetone at the local home center, poured some in a jar and dropped the pipe in it. Came back after an hour or so and rinsed it with lots of water. No shake, shake, shake needed.

I must say that I was pleasantly surprised how fast this worked. I used 70% isopropyl alcohol too because that's what I had and it still worked.

I put my pipes/parts in a quart jar full of alcohol and just let it sit overnight, next day, hot HOT water and a quick rinse look like NEW
I do too, and flush with boiling water from the kettle. You want to hold the pipe with tongs though to avoid scalding yourself.

Legit used this like 5 mins ago works amazing. However it’s a little difficult if your mouth piece isn’t as large as this one. But 10/10
I used some crushed rock salt and it worked well. The rock salt doesn't desolve too quck and allows abrasion when shaking. The acetone does most of the work. Gloves are important, and I used my fingers to block the holes. No tape needed. Flush well afterwards. Thanks for the tips @tunacrab
Very helpful vid! Just cleaned my first bowl with it and she's looking clear as crystal. I did use Isopropyl in lieu of Acetone, and regular table salt, and it still worked just as well. I did use duct tape (got no electrical) and didn't foresee that the isopropyl would cause the tape to start peeling, so I had to act quickly.
So, kinda sloppy, but not a bad job for a first try!
Nexttime just boil some alcohol & set the bowl in it then fill bowl with alcohol & tip to run it out & repeat. No acetone!! Its terrible

Rubbing alcohol is what I use instead of acetone. Salt is the abrasive. It also helps if you wash out the pipe or bong with hot water first, loose up the resin, then rubbing alcohol and table salt, snake up the pipe or bong, flush out, repeat depending how dirt your rig is. When its as clean as you want it, wash it with warm water, let dry, and enjoy!

I use this same technique, i have just one extra step. After cleaning with acetone submerge your pipe in bacardi 151 for 10mins. It kills the acetone aftertaste.

Had to use alcohol and it was only 70% and regular salt but it did the trick. We had to really work to get underneath the bowl (we're talking 2 years or more of resin there). I have cleaned it periodically these past years but it was just to get it unclogged. This mofo is shining like I just bought it. Fuck yeah man. Chicken broth, Pepsi, paprika, tea spoon of sand and mustard. Soak your pipe in that for 35-45 mins and rinse it off…. It’ll be squeaky clean.

I’m off alcohol and weed but remembered the bong has been sitting with filth water in it for months. So I cleaned it for when ever I return or have a friend over. I used bleach, hot water and pipe cleaners. Did the job.
I thought your method was VERY cool but if I my offer... use hot water and 2 of the off brand fizzy denture cleaners let it soak overnight then rinse as you showed. Not as fast as your method but less overhead! I used that and a pipe cleaner for the ultra crusted areas and got the same results. Hope it helps someone!

Meth heads have been using salt to clean out light bulbs for years. Salt is pretty abrasive stuff. All those sharp little edges really go to work. Work made me put my pipe away years ago , but I loved my little toker two.
I just soak the pipe in a mason jar with isopropyl alcohol for ten minutes. Rinse with hot water and done.
Mike Burns been doing it for years 91% alcohol from CVS a mason jar I keep all my little pipes in there and believe me when I get one out of every now and then rancid off in the sink it's like brand-spanking-new

Isopropyl alcohol is what’s doing it for you. You should be able to buy it in most pharmacies. Make sure you get 90% unscented.
Run the pipe under hot water for a couple seconds, chuck it into a Tupperware container with a good amount of rubbing alcohol give it a good shake repeat until clean, rubbing alcohol does not need to be replaced between rinses in hot water.
Looks like it worked well. I suggest using K&N air filter cleaner. It looks like milk, and doesn't require any aggregate to loosen the resin.
