    As a Meteor 350 owner, I can vouch for the build quality; RE has really upped its game. While I can't speak for any of the other bikes on this list, the Meteor doesn't just appeal to beginners; many of us experienced riders like it too; the Meteor is my 12th bike. We're older, so we're downsizing; we want something lighter weight, easier to manage, economical to operate, and fun. For me, the Meteor ticked all those boxes... :)

    • @markymarknj
      @markymarknj 2 года назад +14

      @@shellbackbeau7021 the beauty about the Meteor is it's a simple bike, so you can do much of the maintenance yourself. For example, there are only two valves, and they're screw & locknut-very easy to do yourself. I'd heard of the first service costing $400 or more in the US, but I don't know; I haven't brought my bike to the dealer yet. One, it's 45 minutes away on a good day, which means a minimum 1.5 hours round trip. Two, there's the matter of getting to and from the dealer. One of the reasons I got the Meteor is because it is possible to do much of the work yourself. Not only does this save you money; it means knowing that the job was done right.

    Something that I wasn't aware of when looking at a first time motorcycle purchase is the additional fees. I was looking at a KTM 390 Duke with an MSRP of $5,799USD. When I talked to a local dealer I found out the out the door price (tax, title, license, freight, assembly, etc) was over $9,000. Something to keep in mind. You're going to pay a LOT more than $5k for a brand new "$5k" bike.

      So, it's a single cylinder with less HP than the MT03, and has known reliability issues once you get over 10K miles on it... so why get the Honda instead of Yamaha? I was tempted myself, until I did the research. Hope you have better luck than other people, or sell it once you hit 10K miles.

    I recently picked up a Royal Enfield Classic 350, "little brother" to the Meteor (same engine, slightly different seating position and instrument cluster - it doesn't come with the Meteor's "Tripper" system), and I absolutely love it.
    It's definitely not a "crotch rocket", it won't win any drag races, and it struggles at speeds over 60 MPH, but it's a great commuter bike, and great for weekend joyrides on the backroads (like the one I enjoyed today). And with an MSRP of US$4,599-, it's very affordable.

Limiting factor is the 5-speed transmission 50mph (80km/h) is really all it wants to do for any amount of time. It's slow. Slower than my Grom, slower than my CBR125, and way slower than my CBR250R. Some of the newer KLX have 6-speeds now, so that's a win for a first-timer dual sport. I think some people wanting a do-it-all would feel the TW200 lacks something and would be disappointed.

    RE are good.
    But before discounting Chinese machines the Zontes ZT350 is making big inroads .
    It's well made got a good LC power plant .
    The other Chinese bikes have crap lumps ,but this Zontes is a different ball game.
    All the gizmos and the adventure T2 model is excellent.

    i have been commenting in videos for yam to mention the dr200 for so long, i am so glad he finally put it out there and didn't down it at all, because it is a solid bike, and i love mine. to anyone that owns one, or considers getting one, it can gain huge power with exhaust and carburetor. mine gets 50mpg completely wound out at 65mph on country routes, at speed limit gets 70mpg (55mph) and offroad only mileage is around 100 to 80, depending on how you ride. fastest I've had mine is 77mph and it sounded like it wanted to blow up, 65mph is the most i want to rev it on pavement. i am certain with some gear changes, you could get it up to highway capable speeds, probably would have to do the power upgrades with that though.

    Well if I going to get a new one I'd probably go for that Royal Winfield with the 800cc upgrade that way you just have plenty of torque to rumble down the road and you hit headwinds across out here in the Open West and it'll just keep on thumping.

    My first bike was a red with chrome fenders1980 Yamaha 400 special that had 5000k on it. I picked the bike up at a garage sale for $300 due to the fact the front was smashed in an accident. I sent the bike to a bike shop they straightened the forks I put a new front tire and front fender on and Wala I was riding the bike for $700 to fix it. I rode the bike for about a year and a half with no problems except a battery dying to trade for a 1974 Camaro that ended up giving me all sorts of problems. I should have kept the bike.

    Every single dealer I contacted bumped the MSRP as much as 1500 bucks. 376 freight, 175 "set up" . 294.50 "document" fee... and so it went. Some higher, none lower.
