I remember several years ago my boyfriend and I ran into Billy Barry at one of those celebrity autograph/meet and greet events. He was cruising around on his scooter and stopped to talk with my bf (who is also an actor). Mr. Barty was nothing but kind and generous with his time. There was no ego, no sense of self importance…. Just an genuinely nice person. Thank you Mr. Barty. R.I.P.
l liked him
He even one of the founders of the Little People Convention, that has grown huge since Billy started it back when.
I used to watch "The Billy Barty Show" every weekday as a child, in the early-mid 1960's. I loved that show. 😂😂😂
The way you speak about the departed is so loving!
My mother tells me that when i was a baby, Billy lived across the street from us in Hollywood. My father was John Anthony Bailey who was also part of the krofft supershow and that Billy was awesome and would sometimes watch me as a baby. That some folks said he was a cranky drunk but always had time and smiles for me. *shrug* i dont remember but i love the idea of it as ive always enjoyed his work 😊❤
Hey - many, MANY old actors were 'cranky old drunks" (like Glenn Ford), so even if Billy was one......he had a legion of stars along there with him!
Was he one of Captain Kool and the Kong's ?
Billy played Dr Shrinker's assistant on Krofft Supershow
That's a great story 👍😊
Your dad was those other "movies"?
The Liberace skit was hilarious! I loved the typewriter piano; tap-tap tappity tap-tap..., ding! Thanks for sharing Billy Barty's Untold Story, Scott
That was fun!! He did Liberace's mannerisms perfectly! 😃
That was amazing impression, worth checking out, he was just like a smaller Liberace.
He was in an episode of The Golden Girls playing Rose’s father in a dream sequence.
I had the opportunity to meet Billy Barty at an autograph show that was held at the Beverly Garland Hotel. I was having trouble deciding what picture I wanted him to sign. I was a fan for as long as I could remember. I finally opted for one from the movie "Willow", but he signed a smaller picture of him as himself and handed that one to me too. He was very friendly and kind. There was this really beautiful woman sitting with him, but I don't know who she was. I'm so glad I had that opportunity to meet him. One of the perks of being a child in Southern California we were privileged to get to see his "Billy Barty's Big Top" show. I was pretty young, but I remember it. All the Sid & Marty Krofft stuff a Saturday morning staple at my house. He lived in such a modest home. I guess I'm not surprised. He's been in so many things that I didn't even realize. Thank you Scott for bringing back some fond memories. 🥰
Loved Billy in Foul Play !!! Scott knocks another one out of the park
remember seeing Billy on Little House on the Prairie as Little Lou, who was good with figures, but Mrs Olsen wouldnt hire him to work in the mercantile, because he was a little person. Poor guy got thrown in the prison, for taking food to feed his family......until they needed him to go down the well and rescue Nancy, i believe, who had accidentally fallen down the well. It was a very memorable episode.
He was and he was great in that!
Mrs. Oleson was a mean character, but that episode always makes me unreasonably angry with her. 🤣 Katherine MacGregor played that character to the hilt. She made you love to hate her.
My actress Auntie Gloria worked w/ BB on an episode of the TV western series "Rawhide" where they were members of a traveling circus (of course); he a little person (obviously) named "Shorty" (what else) and she an acrobat/aerialist.
My sister is in the clip of Under The Rainbow; so is Pat Bilon. She was an extra- little person. I was always there on the set.
That is so cool!
@@DearlyDepartedTours I have good memories of it. At the after party I met Carrie Fisher. I showed Claire (sister) your video. She just laughed. I’ve been following you for many years. I have a business card that belong to Ken Bianci that I’d like you to have for your keepsakes. I’ve had since he gave it to me in 1978. We were friends at work. I knew his girlfriend too.
Back in 1962-1964 Billy Barty had a show on Los Angeles local TV channel 11 called "The Billy Barty Show." He hosted the show with kids in the audience participating with quizzes and contests along with Billy showing cartoons. This was an after school kids show. I was around 8 years old when this show was on and watched this show everyday after school. He will always be close to my heart and other Los Angeles kids back then. I thought I'd mention this info for posterity. It was really a fun show. Thanks Billy!
Thanks for the wonderful memories of Billy Barty ! I loved him in Willow too! I also loved Michael Dunn❤️
Thanks for this memorium. You are very respectful of all persons.
Hi Scott, when I was growing up our next door neighbor told me that when she was a waitress in a restaurant near Hollywood Billy Barty used to come in often and when her husband would come to pick her up they will sometimes give Billy Barty a ride home.
Thank you for this lovely tribute to Billy. We represented Billy for many years at the The Artists Group Ltd. which no longer exists on the West Coast to my understanding. I personally made his deals for "Willow" and "Tough Guys" the latter of which I remember fondly since his one scene with Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster was not written for a little person. I suggested him for that part and credit goes to Jane Jenkins for taking it to the director and making it happen. Jane is/was one of the classiest and talented casting people in the business, but I digress. Billy was a warm and wonderful human being and I will treasure my time with him on the "Willow" set in England. He was the perfect client and simply fun to be around. How nice that you put together this video to share with all of us. He was a unique talent and will long be remembered.
Write a book.
Two of my favorite movies as a kid with Billy UHF and Masters of the Universe. Thank you for the geat video sir.
Billy great legend actor
When I was a child, I had the chance to spend a day with Billy, he was such a great person so kind and giving. I still cherish the pictures with him. That was in 1976 when I was just to young to realize who he really was and he left such an impression I never have forgotten him. Thanks for doing this video.
BTW all of Mickey Roonies movies where "short" movies... LOL
Thank you, Scott, for this video on Billy Barty! I first saw him on an episode of Little House on the Prairie. Not sure what season it was, but I remember him going into
the town of Walnut Grove for the first time and Mrs. Olsen making a commotion of it. So much so, that he had to leave Walnut Grove.
He's also in one of my favorite late '70s comedies, "Foul Play" from 1978 which had a solid cast.
always love a Scott Michaels video!!
I loved Billy in the Ridley Scott movie "Legend"! Great upload Scott!👍😎👍😎👍😎👍😎👍
I’m 6’ 6” and I’ll be 59 yrs old this next week. Being tall is not all it’s cracked up to be. I often realize I never see 80 yr old men walking around at my height.
This peaked my interest. You are in fact correct. The taller you are, the shorter the lifespan. That is one of those facts I had never questioned before.
gravity is a killer
I'm 6'5" and 52. Already I'm having back problems.
He played on the little house on the prairie
Not to mention going through life reaching for all those things short people can’t get to. I think that’s why my back is giving me problems 😢
Billy was in Nothing Sacred 1937 with Carole Lombard ,he is a little boy who bites Fredric March in a sneak attack..He was adorable ...
Great video on Billy. He was a great actor and man. He also played Tommy on the Waltons in the episode carnival. Thanks for shareing Scott,,
I love Under the Rainbow.
The pearl is in the river….
Lol and, the way that they kept going on and on with that and, you can’t forget Song Of The South!
you always pick the most interesting people to share with us ~ thanks!
Very nice tribute to Billy! Love how you shouted out Patty too. Very nice 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
OMG wow, I never knew who was under the Sigmund costume ❤ never gave it a thought... that was one of my favorite shows to watch on Saturday mornings. I really enjoyed this vlog.
In the early 90s there was a movie posters and magazine store on Ivar, 6350 Hollywood blvd. They never charged for autographs there. I got Bruce Campbell and the f/x team of Army of Darkness. Also I got Tony Todd’s autograph when he was promoting the original Candyman. You just wait in line.
those were good days
Some "Bride of Frankenstein" DVDs come with audio commentary -- the narrator mentions that apparently Billy's cameo was cut to appease the censors. As you point out, he's still visible from behind in that brief scene. Re: autograph show prices -- Gilbert Gottfried (on his podcast) interviewed someone who attended an autograph convention. Charlton Heston was charging only $15.00 per signature, but Ruth Buzzi was charging $40.00! Imagine getting two photos from Charlton and having $10.00 left over for what Ruth charged for one photo, lol.
I have a photo signed in-person by Meinhardt Raabe and Margaret Pelligrini. I wanted to ask them if Garbo ever visited the set. Supposedly a little person playing a Munchkin was a Garbo lookalike and Garbo may have visited the set to see for herself. I never got the nerve to ask! I was worried they'd think I was going to try and ask them a "drunken orgy" question based on what Judy said to Jack Paar.
I saw a lot of Billy Barty growing up in Little House On The Prairie & Radioland Murders.
He also starred on Bizarre. A Canadian comedy sketch tv show in the 1980’s. He was great on that show. 😂😂😂
That was great! I remember watching Billy in Dr Shrinker as a kid.
In that 1978 Love Boat episode, the actor who played Billy's son is the late Edward Albert (d. 2006) Eddie Albert's son. As handsome as he was, I'm surprised Edward Albert didn't have a much more successful film career.
HE WAS VERY HANDSOME! DIED TOO YOUNG!
I love Billy Barty. Saw him as child in musical of the thirties and remember him in Alfred Hitchcock presents with Pat Buttram. Seems like a nice guy.
How under the influence was judy garland then??
She was so high that she kept mistaking Billy for Wilt Chamberlain.
I said omg. She high as a kite
She was higher than giraffe 😺
Still high from the Oz asbestos snow.
I was working with a crew in the area of studio city. Middle of summer very hot. Lunch time came, myself and a coworker decided to relax on a bench which had an awning and sat just in front of a cafe. As we relaxed , out from the exit door came Billy Barty. He walked in front of us turned and said hi to me. I said hello and exclaimed, why you’re Billy Barty and said nice to meet you and shook his hand. I noticed he had a lotto ticket in his front pocket and I wished him good luck to win. He commented saying, you fellas deserve to win not me. Anyway, he moved on and I noticed he got in a full sized Lincoln sedan turned right out of the driveway and disappeared. I told my buddy I felt Mr Barty was such a nice and polite gentleman it was an honor to meet and chat with him.
Billy Barty will always be a Hollywood legend. Thank you for the entertainment. Rest in peace.
Amazing person. Billy was so gifted. His soul is enormous. Thank you. Judy. History speaks for itself.
Pettin' in the Park was an awesome piece of work. Billy made it truly great.
Great video on Billy Barty. I agree with you about how ridiculously expensive conventions are now. They’re out of my price range.
I had the honor of working at Journey Into Imagination for 5 years- he was the original voice of Figment!!!
He played on an episode of the waltons as well
Great episode Scott. Billy was always a favorite. Joe has a few stories about Billy. His life was his character and his character was his life. Always a professional. You are a great supporter of the normality challenged. Another one of your great traits. Thanks and Hi Troy.
Billy Barty was a huge part of my 70s childhood because he was on just about every Sid and Marty Krofft Saturday morning show. Thanks for the Liberace clip, I never saw that and it was great!
Thanks for his story. Two more cute little people were in the movie "FREAKS" in the 30's and played Hans and Freida. So cute and loved their scenes.
I used to watch the Billy Barty show when i was a kid. One time he had a live show near us. I got to meet him and he was a kind person who cared about his fans.
Excellent video. You do a great job covering the lesser known personalities and events of Hollywood.
I didn't know very much about him so this was a great and informative video. What a legend. ♥
Thank you for being respectful! Billy barty sounds like a great guy!
He seemed like a lovely person!
Scott, you are THE Hollywood historian. Thank you, kindly for all you do.
The Best compliment I can give him, He was Never small ❤ Always a Giant Presence on screen.
Mr. Barty had a featured role in the pretty execrable biopic, W.C. FEILDS AND ME but he lit up the screen whenever he appeared and in a pivotal scene provided genuine pathos that star Rod Steiger could only attempt. There was a LOT of talent in that little body!
And Roustabout was a circus themed movie.😮 BTW....Weeki Wachee is a SUPER COOL place! Silver Springs, too. The glass bottom boats so you can see all the underwater movie props still there.
"Midget" is not a derogatory term......it's different from dwarfism in that it's just a little person - like German actor Harry Earles.
Tell that to all the SJW’s who are offended on their behalf.
I watched H R Puff & Stuff . I remember the Love Boat 💘 episode. Thank you Scott. 👍“Rest In Peace “ William Billy Barty 😇🌹 🎥🎭📺
My brother worked for him in the early 80’s at Billy Barty’s Roller Fantasy in Fullerton, California a combo roller skating rink and concert venue. My brother said Billy got his money’s worth from his employees and could be a tough boss.
I went to the same Ward as Billy Barty & his family. (In the LDS Church, Ward translates to Parrish). He was a very nice man and his wife Shirley was a lovely person. He once said that making the movie “Foul Play” was the most fun he’d had in his movie experience. He left several wonderful legacies. I feel blessed to have known them and especially called Shirley my friend.
My Dad was Athletic Equipment Manager at Cal State LA back in the 70's when the basketball team made it to the NCCA tournament in Pocatello Idaho back in 74. Billy Barty, being an Alum, flew with the team to Idaho and my Dad sat next to him on the flight. They hit some turbulence and Billy was shaken up by it. My Dad said Billy had a huge appetite for being a smaller sized guy and polished off a steak dinner. Billy was a first rate super nice guy, according to my Dad.😊
I loved the Hitchcock episode with Billy "The Glass Eye." It also starred Tom Conway and Jessica Tandy.
Thank you, I had him on my mind recently and poof, a very well respectful way to remember a very talented man. God Bless
Billy was in a lot of stuff, I particularly liked his appearances on the tv show, Bizarre, with John Byner as host.
Great Video! I loved Billy Barty, I watched all the Kroft shows when I was a kid, but never knew back then who he was. My first memory of him was when I was 15 years old in 1978, when I saw Foul Play at the movie theater, I loved that movie when it came out and he was so funny it. On a side note I loved those autograph shows that were run by the Courts back in the 90's and early 2000's, they came to Chicago also and I love all the people I got to meet. Good times.
Grew up in Port Charlotte, FL from 1976-93. We spent some time at Weeki Wachi off I-4 back in day.
I cannot get past your shirt! Parents took me back in the late 60's and to a kid it was a dream escape. Great story today, as always and thank you for bringing family memory to my thoughts!!
That was very cool, Scott. Thanks 👍
Siskel and Ebert despised "Under the Rainbow" as well.
good vlog paying tribute to the good person he was such a great actor, LOL Liberace skit so funny
I remember Billy exchanging derogatory remarks with Red Skelton when he would appear on Red's show. Although probably scripted, Red never came out on top when arguing with Billy. I also remember Billy doing a Liberace sketch with Spike Jones and his City Slickers. Sir Frederick Gas would portray Liberace's brother George and they would play a duet together. At the end, milk would squirt out of the candles that were on the piano. Great memories. Wish what they call comedy today was like it was while I was growing up. THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO !!!!
I loved Billy Barry, thank you for this video.
Scott I love your videos Billy Barty rest in peace. Scott hope you and Troy are doing well love u both.
Thanxx Scott 🙄✌️
I loved his role on "Little House on the Prairie". The episode where he was the perfect size to save Carrie who fell into the mineshaft. One of my favorite episodes of the show. He was also in the movie "Willow", he was the Wizard who taught Willow some magic.
Great actor.🙏
Thank you for this excellent video, Scott. I enjoyed learning more about Billy and his life. I thought the Little People poem was lovely. Great job!
Such a great person ❤️. Thank you for sharing him with us. Great job 👏 👍 👌. 😊
Was a teenager in the seventies and watched all of the Sid and Marty Kroft series. He was Sigmund and was hilarious on Dr Shrinker as the henchman. He was very funny on I believe Showtime adult comedy Bizarre with John Byner show
But, you also then, remember him as a narrator in the Disney Movie in Song Of The South, you rarely here of it even mentioned anymore or can rarely find it on the internet!
He was a great guy. Years ago at one of those Beverly Garland shows I noticed him selling stills from a Rumpelstiltskin film that he had been in, I think, and I commented that a Rumpelstilskin film was the first movie I ever saw, when I was three or four, but it didn't appear to be this one. Even though it had nothing to do with him, he knew exactly what film it was- West German, I think- and even what re-release I would have seen. He was an amazingly fun guy to talk to, and I wish now I'd asked him about my favorite role of his, in "Gold Diggers of 1933".
I was in the airport in San Francisco once and who should i see walking toward me in the concourse but Billy Barty and two other little people. I stopped and said that i was a huge fan of his. He looked up at me smiling and said "Everybody is huge to me!" I got to speak with him for a few minutes. He was really a nice man.
What a wonderful and thoughtful video. I love all yr thought to details in putting together yr videos and in the proper order as well. I dearly love BIOGRAPHIES and thoroughly enjoyed this one thank u.Ruthie
Great story. Thanks for sharing…!
I first knew of Billy from the Sid and Marty Krofft shows. Dr. Shrinker, Lost Saucer, Sigmund and the Sea Monsters to name a few. I knew of Patti from Far Out Space Nuts and the girl robot in Buck Rogers that always said, "Booty! Booty!"
It was more like "bee dee bee dee".
@@LannieLord Felix Silla was inside Twiki on Buck Rogers and he said "Bee dee bee dee". But Patty was inside the gold, female version of Twiki and she said "Booty Booty".
Weeki Wachee is a great place. I liked his role on UHF.
Hi❤
My sister and I were on the Billy Barty Show back in the 60s.
Is it ironic that his last film was a, "short film"? 😛
In the 1970s billy and his famely would come to carpinteria. he was so cool, he would hang out and talk to you. supper nice guy.
For many years, Billy would come up to Saskatchewan to take part in Telemiracle, a telethon to raise money for the Kinsmen. He was well loved in the province 🇨🇦
Billy Barty was a funny little dude. His sense of humor was fantastic.
Enjoyed as usual
Love the videos and channel. I would go with my father to western autograph shows, cheap to get in and cheap for a autograph. Academy award winner Ben Johnson was at the Memphis film festival. He was only supposed to be there an hour, but stayed for 6, to make sure his fans got his autograph. Different time. Keep up the good work.
As always, awesome work on the video.
I love the video and thank you for sharing his story with us Scott.
I Grew up on a lot of his work, and always enjoyed his performances! This was an awesome video, explaining his life and work, I really enjoyed watching it! RIP Billy
As a kid born in 1960 I remember Billy Barty being very popular with children whenever and wherever he appeared on television !
Television and film, film isn’t the same as television, film was when, he done movies and, was on the big screen!
@@sonyafox3271Stupid name by the way, in the 60's The "FILM'S" that he made when he started were NOT being shown in "MOVIE THEATERS" they were being shown on "TELEVISION" mostly for children in the form of Old movie comedy shorts like the our gang/little rascals shorts.... Made for theaters before the 1940's, therefore in the 1960's children saw him mostly on TELEVISION !
The mourning doves cooing in the background was very apt.
One of my favorite actors he was awesome
Billy Barry showed up to an assembly when I was in 8th grade at Huntington Jr. High in the 80's.
