- Karyn Kupcinet was found murdered on Thanksgiving Weekend of 1963.
Her body was discovered by Lost in Space star Mark Goddard.
Daughter of famed Chicago Columnist Irv Kupcinet, it is said that she might be involved with the assassination of JFK. "THE PRESIDENT IS GOING TO BE KILLED!"
Actor Andrew Prine was the suspect, long thought to be guilty.

That poor girl was 5’6” and 122 pounds! She was at a good weight for her height and was actually on the thin side. Her mother really damaged her.
I was,in high school in the late 70s,
at 5 foot 6 and 122 Lbs. I wasn’t too thin I was pretty curvy then actually
@@robertabray-enhus3198 it's not just your height, it's bone structure and weight distribution.
Some people look curvy at 120 and others look thinner.
@@marigold7250yes, but no way was she overweight. She was pretty and her figure was fine - the clip shows her in a dress in a tiny waist. Her mom messed with her head. No way I'd ever have wanted to be famous. Garbage standards.
Yes highschool I was 5'5tall 136lbs pe was swimming 🙏running😁volleyball choreography 👍
Her stage mother mom was just jealous.
60 years ago means her murderer is probably dead. So sad she never got justice.
There isn't justice for her. How can there be? She was murdered.
Our justice system isn't designed to bring justice to the victim. It is designed to make it extremely difficult for the State to convict a person of a crime. That is why Due Process is so very fundamental to people accused of crimes.
Whoever her murderer was or is will be dealt with by the one who sees All > GOD!
You could read an instruction manual with that voice and I wouldn’t be bored! I took your tour twice and loved both (the Manson tour and the death tour). You’re awesome, Scott! Keep up the good work!!!
Scott I don’t know about other people and no one should be making you feel bad for trying your best to pronounce medical terminology. Keep up the good work. Thank you for sharing these stories and the knowledge of these people
Agree.
Agreed love his content and appreciate him trying and thought he did a great job
I haven't seen anyone ever in the comments trying to make him feel bad about word pronunciation. Have you? Cause if not, not sure why you typed that.
@Silenced23 Scott brought it up himself. We are all being reassuring.
Where are you now? Your voice is wonderful Scott. Don't let someone get to you for mispro- nouncing some medical terminology. Be glad that you don't have to take criticism from them more often. They were in the wrong by criticizing you. There was a diagram indicating what parts of the throat you were speaking about. Your part was easily understood.
I ate my lunch through Scott's autopsy reading. I will say what's disgusting about this is someone killed this young woman and got away with it, and left her remains to be discovered in the way they were, and nude no less. What kind of "person" could even do something like that? Unreal.
Exactly. Not human.
The mob probably
Whoever killed this beautiful young lady, wanted to embarrass her when she would be discovered. Stating this because this is always the case from detectives/ profilers who cover cases such as this. I remember her from the Andy Griffith show when she played the character Rowena and Ernest T. Bass and her enjoyed the same things.
A lot of people are capable of this type of crime. It occurs on a daily basis in the U.S.
She wasn't well in the head some crazy stuff going on here it appears.
You’re such a great storyteller. What a tragic story; I’m so sorry for her.
Not sure if it's a story. It's reality.
Great presentation scott of this poor girls death RIP
No way she died like that from a coffee table . That's definitely strangulation.
Meprobamate-found in Karyn’s body, as well as in a container in her apartment-was sold as Miltown, a common tranquilizer of the early ‘60s.
Thank you for the shout-out!
I did that research over a decade ago and after watching your excellent narrative, I still remember the details as if it was yesterday. Bravo Scott!
How sad. Poor girl.
Somebody got away with murder.
Hi Troy and Scott, great team work.
This would make a hell of a movie! It has everything 1960 s A Beautiful Woman Drawn to the depths of Obsession and Madnass. The Hollywood Set, Politics, and a tragic demise. With all due respect to Karyn Cookie Kupcinet.
Special thanks to Scott Stanton
That was really well done. Andrew Prine had a successful career after that murder. I remember him from "The Virginian" where he seemed to be on that show a lot. I found my neighbor dead after just a day and the stench was pretty overwhelming after just a day and he was running his AC.
I was thinking that the rapist/murderer was probably a neighbor just before you brought up Lange was her neighbor. It's very rare that a person commits suicide in the nude, especially a woman with body issues. These dark Hollywood stories are riveting, never heard about this one, thanks.
Excuse me now can anyone commit suicide by strangling themselves? She wasn’t hanging. And you can’t hang yourself laying face down on a couch. Not sure why you’d even be worried by that or why it was brought AT ALL by Scott or anyone.
Wow! This is interesting Thanks!
i believe the killer was andrew prine simply because she had been stalking him and his new girlfriend. and the way the killer left her to be embarrassed. completely naked. that tells me it was revenge
@@6Haunted-DaysI thought he said that law enforcement brought that up?
@donaldduncan7095 That is an excellent observation that a decedent with any type of body dysmorphia would likely be clothed.
One thing re: an individuals state of dress when they make their attempt. There are a whole lot of situational factors that come into play.
Religiosity and/or the desire to not "leave a mess" can influence a person's decision to be clothed or not.
Without writing an entire thesis here, if a person enters water, unclothed, in public, acting fast is of necessity. Generally, those individuals will put enough space between themselves and anyone else in the vicinity.
I should probably clarify that due to my proximity to several large bodies of water and an international set of waterfalls (cough Niagara cough), this type is far more common than, say, in the Midwest.
But yes, regarding religiosity, some people equate the event to either baptism, being made clean by water, or birth/rebirth because they are going out of the world the way they came in. (Hopefully, that makes sense. I'm about to fall asleep.)
Oh! I was also completely unfamiliar with this case.
😢 Thank you for sharing this story and for remembering this young lady prayers for the family and friends who are left to grieve this great loss!❤
Having grown up with a weight-obsessed mother, my heart goes out to Karen. Fortunately, I set my heart (successfully) on graduating from uni, and didn’t have to make a success in show biz as Cookie K. was expected to. May her memory continue to endure as a blessing.
Scott, fantastic job. Would like to see your treatment of the similar Dorothy Kilgallen story!
The Dorothy Kilgallin story of her passing, has a strange connection to Marilyn Monroe. City of Allen on RUclips has a lot of interesting information.
Scott always knows how to feed my interest in Hollywood. I'm infatuated with the golden age of Hollywood and the not so nice times. Thank you sir.
Good job, guys! That poor girl. Sounds like she had some mental struggles, and a pretty horrible death. Rest easy, Karyn. I'm sure your parents loved you.
I’ll take rare mispronunciation from you any day of the week- your content is flawless in execution, research, and analysis. You’re a Hollywood historian with a modern touch. Tomato / tomahhhtow if someone takes issue with medical mispronunciation, my friend :)
Thank you for this story. It was so interesting. I hope Karyn is finally at peace. Her life didn’t sound great with all the emotional abuse from her Mom and her boyfriend.
Bravo, Scott, Bravo! You really did a wonderful job on this story. I was born in 1962, which means that I was 1-year-old when Karen & JFK were murdered. I believe Karen was murdered in order not to dispel any more info than she had on JFK’s upcoming murder, at that time.
So the telephone operator alerted authorities or anyone else around her as proof BEFORE the assassination. I think not. Phn Operator trying to get their 15 min of fame.
@@tjp2109 False assumption on your part. Her father was alerted before the assassination. FBI was alerted and supposedly passed on this info to the Secret Service. This was known by members of the Warren commission, but was discounted by the commission.
Wow! Scott, thanks so much for doing a video on Karen Kupcinet. Nobody EVER talks about it! (or Dorothy Killgallon) This was a video I have been hoping you would do for a long time! Is there any more information on the phone call?
This is the best channel because you always find the stories that slip through the cracks.
Thanks for bringing this story to light. How sad about Karen; she sounded like she had depression issues, but she was a really pretty girl.
Not too bad Scott. ..from an ICU nurse. I always love your voice for story telling 👍
I’ve heard of this case before. I’m surprised this is still unsolved. I wonder if she was so lonely on Thanksgiving that she brought a stranger back to her apartment who murdered her. I didn’t hear anything about sexual assault? Her mom ruined her. Very sad story. I hope she found peace.
Great show. Thanks, Scott. Sad that she had to endure Tijuana and a horrible death at such a young age. She was a pretty girl who cared so much about what other people thought of her. Too bad she didn't get the chance to mature and come into her own happiness. Rest in Peace Karyn.
I always wondered what happened to Andy Prine. Thank you for this report. I was 15 at the time and, for some reason, remember her name. What a sad thing that her mother pushed her to be something she wasn't. Maybe, Karen could have had a happy life if she'd been allowed to find her own place in the world.
Karyn came from a well-known wealthy family but she didn't seem to have the looks to be considered a leading lady or the talent to be more than a "B" movie actress or character actress. She also seemed to lack self-esteem and good judgment to be successful in Hollywood.
She never would have been HAPPY.
@@Gitn2itshe looked like a poor man’s Joan Collins.
@freddyfurrah3789…unfortunately there are a percentage of the population, scattered all around the globe, that no matter how good their lives are will never find peace or happiness. They seem to fail to realize how happiness and contentment are states that only can be found in oneself and not outside circumstances. If you are counting on someone else to make you happy and keep you happy, then you are doomed to disappointment.
Thank you for this video! I worked for YEARS with Karyn's brother, Jerry Kupcinet, when he directed Judge Judy (among many other shows.) Jerry had a prolific career & I never knew this tragic story. He was a wonderful guy & as I'm sure you know, he died in 2019. But his advice, both personal and professional, are embedded in my brain. Same for his jokes and one liners, which are now probably considered NSFW! LOL Thanks again.
There's a story about a gentleman that knew something about the jfk assignation and he observed by bystanders thrown out of low 2 story building in downtown Pensacola, florida and the autopsy reads suicide. Found that story out on a haunted trolley tour.
James Ellroy wrote a piece on this case in his 1998 compilation of fiction and true crime "Crime Wave"
So sad with no answers of who or what besides strangulation. The family and friends had no closure hardest death to deal with. Thanks Scott for covering this and bringing the murder back to life, you never know it may un-surface someone’s suppressed memories and solve a cold case even if the murderer is dead now.
Wow. I'd heard of Irv Kupcinet and Karyn Kupcinet, as well as her murder. But this connection with the Kennedy assassination...my jaw is still on the floor 😮
And it's nonsense.
Never heard of this performer before. I don't think some of you would be as sympathetic if Andrew Prine sent her hateful mail or hid in her attic.
She sounds like a woman with mental health issues who was in an environment she couldn't handle. I wish her eternal peace 🕊️.
This is the best account of Karyn's short and sad life. Her murder was more horrific than I knew. I do believe that she had inside inf on JFK's assassination. Her father was a man in the know from Chicago. He probably knew mobsters like Sam Giancano. Maybe Kup thought it was a joke and told Karyn. Karyn took it seriously.
I was at James Madison Elementary when JFK was shot.My dad was at IBM School for the USAirforce. When they got the news about Kennedy, one of the men there, a native Texan came right out said LBJ did it.Other Texans have said the same thing.
thank you for doing this and at least trying to honor her and find some answers. I walked by that place so many times, and I think of her every single time I hope one day they do find the culprit.
So from my understanding of the autopsy report, she was beaten and then strangled to death... breaking the hyoid bone is a guarantied death as well. Breaking that is by applying a very good amount of force. I imagine it was someone who had good reason to get rid of her and her erratic behaviour. Like a career minded ex-boyfriend... perhaps 🤷♂️
She was strangled but not beaten. The facial discoloration was caused by decomposition.
SPOT ON!! THE BOYFRIEND!!
Nobody strangles themself by falling on a coffee table. Had she committed suicide, it would have been more likely by overdosing on pills like Marilyn Monroe. The person who did it was most likely someone she knew. Other than the cigarettes on the floor it doesn't appear that there was a violent struggle. This story is truly a sad one.
Unfortunately many of the individuals who were friends of her's during the early 1960's , many are deceased. If anyone that was associated with her untimely death,..that person may be Dead or very elderly. ???
MM didn't kill herself. RFK killed her!!!
I enjoyed this a lot but I wish you had spoken more about what the operator at the beginning of the story says she heard. That said, her dad was so distraught and determined to find out what happened I think he would have mentioned it to somebody if he thought his daughter was killed because he had told her something about the JFK assassination.
This was very interesting. To be honest, I had never heard of her. However, I learn so much thru you. You always provide excellent coverage on your topics. I always look forward to what you have planned. Happy Monday 😊
Don't ever apologize for trying to pronounce certain words. As you know, I was a medical examiner and there are many times I got tongue tied. You're not alone!
Scott I’ve been in the medical field since 99 (Cardiology) and there still lots of medical words mostly medications I can not pronounce correctly lol. No need to apologize! Love your channel. Hope you and Troy have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Love you guys!
Love your work. Its like having a full set of encyclopedia on who's who & what's what. Good stuff!!
The drug is a early anti-anxiety agent commonly called miltown the original mother’s little helper can cause death in high doses >12g
If you had not mentioned the Andy Griffith show, I wouldn’t have recognized her , but did remember her in a “feudin” parent episode. You do outstanding content. Thanks
A Feud is a Feud as Hannah Carter (credited Tammy Windsor). That's the only place I believe I knew her from. Such a sad story. Also reminded me of Dorothy Kilgallen.
@@crush41gb ..yes that’s the one, Agee very sad.
I watched that episode. I don’t think that was Karyn. It really doesn’t look like her. They also say Karyn was in the original Little Shop of Horrors film. I don’t think she is.
@DearlyDepartedTours I know.. looking at it I don't believe it's her either. I don't know how that got mixed up or if she ever actually used that alias. Great video and informative by the by, Kind Sir! Thank you for all you do.
@@DearlyDepartedTours …yeah great point, I went back and looked at a few scenes and it doesn’t much look like her. …big fan of all your videos and content. Thanks.
From Chicago, I remember her father’s articles. He was very well known and when he passed it was a big deal.
Such a sad story . You both are great . Scott is always so informative and passionate about the history and it’s so clear how supportive Troy is !
I met Irv Kupcinet in Chicago where I was a policeman. Years later I met actor, Andrew Prine. Kup was convinced Prine murdered his daughter but later changed his mind.
Her acting was actually really good!! I loved her expressions!
I’m a medical professional. Scott, you did REALLY well with your pronunciation of medical terminology. The hyoid bone can only be broken (as a rule of thumb) by manual strangulation. Even a ligature wouldn’t break it. The ligature would have to be really strong at depth and thick to cause such a trauma. It would need to be broken by such a depth not created by anything other than a humans hands. Think Shannon Watts, her hyoid bone was broken so badly by C Watts xxx
The fact that she was in advanced stages of decomposition could also point to (just a theory) someone placing her on the couch days after her death, however if any liquification, skin and other body fluids were found inside the couch hints that she probably died there. Hope this helps a little ❤❤❤
Fascinating presentation. Well done. Author Mark Shaw has written two books on the murder of Dorothy Kilgallen ("The reporter who knew too much", and "Fighting for Justice"). Also, you might want to read the works of James Fetzer on the JFK murder. These sources may help give more perspective to Karyn's death .
Well, someone strangled her, and covered her mouth. You can deduce this from the autopsy findings. The damage to her mouth, and the hyoid bone. Did the autopsy findings say she had petechiae? It’s the blood vessels breaking from pressure around the eye. This too is a good indicator of strangulation. Someone definitely wanted her dead, and I can’t imagine how frightened she must have been. Terrible. Poor girl.
There was some mention of the sclera, the whites of the eye. But I don’t recall the word petechiae.
This story is so interesting-thank you, Scott. Your content is always excellent.
Scott… you have always been my “go-to-guy” for everything Hollywood. ❤. You are respectful and full of fascinating facts. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!!!
Being from Chicago I have vivid memories of Kup. Everyone read him and everyone knew who he was. Yet somehow I had no Idea his daughter was murdered????
This sadly reminds me of Karen Carpenter in the sense that they were both named Karen (Karyn) and they both had mothers who pushed them into loosing weight because they thought their daughters were fat. Sad and tragic the way it affected them in life.
I Was Thinking The Exacted Same Thing
My 14 year old daughter danced with the Oregon Ballet Theatre for years. A new teacher from Cuba was hired. She would duct tape girls mouths shut so they couldn't eat or drink water. She kept telling my 6' 110 lb daughter she was too fat, then made her get on her knees to apologize for some minor incident. I had no idea this was happening. I finally convinced my daughter to tell me what was going on. I was LIVID and marched into the ballet class and said if they didn't talk to me now...I'd call the police and report child abuse now. They got rid of that HORRIBLE WOMAN TEACHER...things changed and she was in ballet for many years. On her way out I stopped her and told that disgusting teacher that my daughter gets on her knees to God only...never to people like her.
@@elenavonpavel-pitts3442Not sure what became of my reply, but I think It know the identity of the teacher from Cuba. Won't reveal it for liability reasons, but if they're one in the same, this woman ran studios in Tampa, Florida.
Per one student, her second studio had no A C. In the middle of Florida?! What?!
Her students were lean, and she was associated with remarks like "Fat people don't look good in tutus." I gave up ballet, even bar stretches, and am now a happy practitioner of Qi Gong meditation.
In his book on the JFK assassination titled 'Crossfire', author Jim Marrs listed the unexplained (or not fully explained) deaths of people related to the JFK assassination. Karen Kupcinet was one of them. Although I don't think Marrs conclusively pinned the deaths on JFK assassination conclusively - some hearsay. But that being said the amount of people who died (naturally or otherwise) related to the JFK assassination in a span of a decade or more is noteworthy.
Being from Chicago I remember Kup real well but had no idea his daughter had been murdered. Thanks for her story being told here
Subscribed! Love the care & realistic discussions of these cases. Even having difficultly pronouncing names, no fancy editing, really makes me appreciate your channel & the uniqueness of how RUclips should be. Thank you both for being an interesting, engaging & informative channel. Being kind to the victims and having respect for the dead is refreshing as well. Sending aloha & excited to see your channel grow!
Your stories are fantastic! So well researched with facts that are so interesting. Please keep these cases coming.
Wow, what a sad and short life she had. Very interesting story, made all the better by your narration. Thank you for sharing.
I saw Irv Kupcinet about a year or two before he passed...early 2000s. Coincidentally about the time I started following the old FindADeath site, lol! I was walking on State St. in downtown Chicago and he was being pushed by an assistant in a wheelchair down the sidewalk. He was dressed nicely in a sport coat and had those big tinted glasses..really unmistakable, but he looked pretty unwell. I never knew the full story about what happened to Karyn...just awful and sad. Thanks for sharing her story, Scott.
I’ve never heard of this lady. But I recognised Andrew Prine straight away. He was in an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents. A face you never forget. Sadly whoever did the murder would now have passed away
New subscriber RN for 39yrs plus a love for old Hollywood type life, people and mysteries. Great job
RIP Karyn🌹How sad this hasn’t been solved and her family never got Justice. In today’s strangulation cases there is a way to get fingerprints & skin cells for dna testing on the surface of the decedents throat in certain cases. It’s a shame with todays forensics this case might have been solved. Thank you Scott,I do remember that someone had said the president was shot a day before he was , I just never knew the whole story.
I think the semen would have prob. been all they needed on this one though… sounds like there was enough of it 😣based on the gross description in autopsy.
Penn Jones, in his 1967 book Forgive My Grief, Volume 2 (p. 20-21), implied that the woman who made the call may have been actress Karyn Kupcinet, daughter of Irv Kupcinet, a columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times. Irv was allegedly an acquaintance of Jack Ruby. Miss Kupcinet was murdered days after the JFK assassination. Jones wrote:
A few days before the assassination, Karyn Kupcinet, 23, was trying to place a long distance telephone call from the Los Angeles area. According to reports, the long distance operator heard Miss Kupcinet scream into the telephone that President Kennedy was going to be killed.
Two days after the assassination, Miss Kupcinet was found murdered in her apartment. The case has never been solved.
Yet another of those many strange coincidences: Irv Kupcinet and Jack Ruby grew up and were acquainted with each other in the same neighborhood in Chicago.
Jones compared the story of Kupcinet above to the Oxnard call and referred to it as “approximately the same story as we have on Miss Kupcinet.”
The author, however, did not provide a source for his claim regarding Karyn Kupcinet making a call about the assassination of President Kennedy. Additionally, the details provided - while on the surface are similar to the Oxnard call - also conflict in some aspects. Jones stated that Kupcinet made her call “a few days” before the assassination, while the Oxnard call took place only minutes beforehand. The author also wrote that Miss Kupcinet was heard screaming into the phone, while the operators in Oxnard said that the woman on the line was whispering. Finally, Kupcinet was not found “two days later” but nearly a week after JFK’s assassination.
In 1992, Irv Kupcinet blasted the association of his daughter’s death with the JFK assassination, calling it an “outrage” and writing that the book, “…left the impression that some on the list may have been killed to silence them because of knowledge of the assassination. Nothing could be further from the truth in my daughter’s case.”
In Glamour Jungle, writer James Ellroy noted that Kupcinet had gone to Palm Springs the night of the assassination with three others, and stayed there for two days - without mentioning prior knowledge of JFK’s assassination.
Some critics have posed the question why Irv Kupcinet himself was not silenced, since he would have been the person to relay this information to his daughter.
2013 Story
Scripps Howard News Service revisited the mysterious call on the 50th anniversary of Kennedy’s death. The story noted that before the Dallas trip, other Kennedy events had been canceled due to death threats.
Conclusion
The FBI confirmed that a woman from Oxnard, California told telephone operators minutes before the assassination of John F. Kennedy that, “The President is going to be killed.” The woman’s mental state was questioned, and the call was deemed untraceable. Despite this, the call has been the subject of fascination and conspiracy theories for decades.
Were these simply the ramblings of a disturbed person, or a warning from someone who was privy to inside information? Over 50 years later, it is doubtful this mystery will ever be solved.

I'm glad you covered this story!
Btw, the $5,000 reward amount back in 1963 would be equivalent to $51,034.64 in 2024.
Brilliant work as always, Scott! I could listen and watch you all day long! Thank you for sharing all these information with us! Happy Holidays!
These are my favorite kinds of videos. I love them all but these remind me of when I first discovered the website and read about deaths for hours… the best research.
I so agree!! I used to be obsessed with the website too and would read the stories for hours. For me, I think it's Scott's personality that made me love it. His little sarcastic, yet hilarious comments made me laugh so much!!
Rest in Peaceful Paradise, Light and Love ~ Karyn Kupcinet.
Well done.
XoCheers.
I have spoken to her friends in Chicago area and visit her at Memorial Park. She was very troubled. Most everyone believes this was suicide
Thanks Scott, another fascinating story. Very sad. A sad girl that was looking for a life, but never found it.
She was a natural beauty, these " Mothers" (narcs) destroying their kids 😢
I have never heard about this story. Prayers for her and her family. She was very pretty. Love your channel always. On a side note, your documentary 6 degrees of Helter Skelter is in my top 3 favorite documentaries about Manson and his victims. It was a different way of approaching the subject which I loved. I learned a lot I didn't know beforehand. I can't wait for you to open another museum. I will definitely make the trip to see it.
When I was a kid, Kup could be found at the Billy Goat Tavern with his drinking buddies Jack Brickhouse & Mike Royko. Sometimes I would see him at the Drake Hotel, usually around the holidays. He was always willing to stop and chat - usually about the Bears or Cubs woes.....
Great job as always Scott 😊
Always great story telling, Scott

Scott, I've only heard this story about Karyn told one time on one channel. Let me tell you in comparison to yours, you can't even compare. You've done a beautiful job here. And tons more information. I had taken notes on her story let me tell you they are totally lacking after seeing your story. Thanks.
Thank you, Pippadot!
You really do a good job and and find interesting things to make video's about. Thank you.
My friend and I just visited the Memorial Park Cemetery where Karyn and her parents are at and we also saw Robert Reed as well. Very sad story.
I can't pronounce the words either . Another in depth story . Great work man .
Mt Elliott and Outer Drive love the work you do. This neighborhood is so quiet and abandoned. I love living here.
Scott i must say ,you are a great story teller
