I had a privilege to have dinner with him and some other athletes after he spoke for an hour at Nantucket project a few years back. He told all kinds of stories. They made him a scapegoat. But at the end of the day, he still raised 4 of his kids, created very big live strong foundation, beat cancer, list goes on. True champion frame no mater what. What people who say “they were all on drugs, lance was just better” don’t understand is it really was just the drugs which dictated who was the best.
EPO made it possible for riders who were not climbers to become capable of winning tour mountain stages. Lance Armstrong was talented, no question, but he just had the best doping program out of all the other competition.
Remember, before his cancer diagnosis he never finished within the top 30 for GC in the tour.
This was a case where athletes aren’t winning due to grit or natural ability, but rather who had the best doctor.

This comment is correct. To say they were all cheating, so it was all even is far from fair. Armstrong took cheating to another level, he had informants inside the testing regime, warning him if his test levels were getting too high. He also bullied people and ruined lives, he lied continuously to everyone and is considered by most neutrals as a horrible person. I was a huge fan during his winning days, and watched all his races read his books etc. But I was fooled like everyone else. There is enough information about Armstrong now that we should all be able to see that he cheated badly and deserved to be stripped and banned.

Primoz can barely finish Le Tour lately, but is otherwise a great cyclist. Similar performances to Lance? That would suggest he's not clean and nothing more. You don't achieve LA performance figures without dope. You can get about 90% of the way there in terms of average watts before sports science labs would refer to your performance as "a miracle." Let's see Primoz do 500watts for 30 minutes without doping. (He can't.)
Yes, without knowing them personally, I'm willing to bet that the original commenter here isn't capable of doing 333 watts for 30 minutes. (2/3 of Lance's claimed 500w for 30 minutes) That's not exactly a far shot or bad gamble, considering the amount of people who can do such a thing is far smaller than the number that are just strictly incapable.
The original commenter made it out as though everything special about the cyclists of the EPO era came from a syringe or bottle, and that's utter nonsense. What I said gives a bit of perspective on the natural talent of pro cyclists like Lance. Nothing more.
TL;Dr: The average man fully dedicated to training is unlikely to ever achieve anywhere near the performance figures of a pro cyclist. Pros are built different regardless of PED use, and there's nothing comical about that claim if you actually understand the night and day difference between normal fellas and pro athletes.

If Lance performs like Lance does, then he's the Jesus incarnate. But if anyone else does it, it just means they're on drugs. "The average man fully dedicated to training is unlikely to ever achieve anywhere near the performance figures of a pro cyclist." I've never cared much for the biological luck theory. And even if it were true, I'd have more respect for an "average man fully dedicated to training" whose only noteworthy achievement is to get third in the Roubaix rather than some freeloader of DNA who wins the TDF 6 times. In fact if it were just some clash of the DNA titans like you say, I think cycling would be very boring. So I can't believe that for a minute.

That and there is nothing natural about 500w/30 minutes, regardless of who does it. There is nothing natural about the performance figures reached by any of the top cyclists from the EPO era. Lance, Ullrich, Pantani..... They're equally as gifted as cyclists today, but they also had free reign to abuse PEDs. No I don't think Lance is incredibly special, but he was a great cyclist quite clearly.
An average man fully dedicated to training would probably never get third in the Roubaix because the average person isn't capable of becoming a pro cyclist on any level. Just like how the average person isn't capable of joining the NBA or any other pro sport. It's a pro sport, you have to be something incredible to get in. He was a cheat, end of story. Doesn't matter if every other rider was a cheat also. The legends are those men that had the moral fortitude to not take performance enhancing drugs knowing they would be unable to beat the cheats, but still competed.

Take away those "magic potion" given by Dr Mitchell Ferrari and see what LA can do. Best was a mid-field finished and the worst part was pre 1999 he couldn't even climb at all. Ya everything changed out of a sudden huh?

He wasn't committed to it prior to 1999 either, and he weighed a lot more. Jan said if no one was doping (which almost all were) that Lance would still have won all seven tours regardless.

@@desertrainfrog1691 he wasn't getting the same sophisticated doping programme pre 1999 and therefore he could not win anything because simply he's not the best. He couldn't even climb LMAO. It was when he worked with Dr. Mitchel Ferrari and had that advanced drugs only he started to "win". Go figure! Ya that Jan, another doper himself.

@@100flite Advanced drugs? Blood doping, epo, cortisone was the base for all of it. You think other team doctors couldn't figure that one out? Lance also met Ferrari prior to 99' and had been doping before that.
I don't think he's a hero, but if you think the only special thing about him came from a bottle, you're understating accomplishment. No one else trained like him, his whole life became winning Le Tour.
You're also neglecting the change in bodyweight he experienced by the time he returned in 99'. His post cancer bodyweight was a lot less, which accounts for a lot of his change in climbing ability.
Yes, all of them were dopers. Lance, Jan, Pantani, Basso, etc.

@@desertrainfrog1691 talk is cheap. Show me proof that all the other riders has received all the similar advance doping received by LA and they were prescribed by Mitchel Ferrari. Give me proof, facts, eye witnesses testaments or at least something as well documented as in LA's case. Don't give me BS like hearsay etc. If you don't have any solid proof then you better stop talking. Also stop all the crap like no one train as hard as him bla bla... just to make him look better after he was caught cheating. That doesn't work. It only works for his fan boys who still cannot accept the fact that not only he's no hero but not a TdF contender at all. Bodyweight? It doesn't matter. Any results pre 1999?? Don't bring in other shitty stuff just for the sake of arguing. He's a scumbag who doped, lied, bullied countless people and until the day he was cornered, only he put up that show and remorse face trying to tell the whole world how sorry he was. That is your do called hero dumb arse.

In reality armstrong has 0 wins, he was caught doping during all 7 wins and was stripped of all tore de france titles. Greg Lemond is the only American to ever win, which he did 3 times. BTW Lemond was the first person to call lance out for doping, at the time the cycling community shunned Lemond. Turns out he was correct, Lemond said that doping started in 1994 with all cyclists. Watch the espn 30 for 30 slaying the badger its about Greg Lemond and how he caught Lance cheating, and also winning 3 Tour De France Titles.
