    I really prefer an AK and my safe’s tendencies prove this. It’s true that 556 AKs have even less common magazines but at least share the same ammunition so this maybe a way to go. Inversely, if you find an AK mag in SHTF it’s almost guaranteed to be in 762. If I’m not mistaken I’ve read that some of the recent Russian forces are looking to go back to 762 as well?

      My understanding is outside of the European theater. Russian special forces utilize the 762 more as it is
      More common with partner forces.

    Great video I'm on both sides of your AK vs AR issues I have a bunch of both cause I'm a big fan of both platforms. Im a 7.62 fan all my AK's are 7.62x39 and .300 Blackout for AR's keeps my collection stream line and my scopes have calibration for those 2 rounds. Honestly those 2 cartridges are very similar so recoil, accuracy, bullet drop, ammo weight is so close it just makes sense for me.

    • @conceptualconcepts6.9
      @conceptualconcepts6.9  День назад +1

      100% and they do very similar things in terms of wound cavity and brush deflection. The one reason I don’t personally own a 300blk is working at a couple gun shops for the past 10 yrs I’ve seen over a dozen 5.56 guns blow up from 300blk finding its way into a mag. 7.62 doesn’t share this issue. But regardless there are many steps you can take to mitigate this risk.

    I think something people often overlook about 7.62x39 is that during the 80's and 90's and even early 2000's it was incredibly cheap and ARs were uncommon. Anyone who was into guns before youtube often had a stockpile of it and I don't think people realize just how much is floating around still.
    Another potentially hot take is that you having a different rifle than the rest of the team isnt a deal breaker, especially if there are genuine benefits. if you are prioritizing conflict avoidance and strategic strikes on your terms then you may not be burning through as much ammo or mags as you may assume. Break contact drills are sexy and have their place, but logistics over any time duration may force you to be selective in ammo expenditure. This reality makes me believe that in any long term scenario everyone all having the same platform may not be nearly as important as you being able to help your team with a rifle you trust and use effectively. Conversly if the event is short term then ammo quantity is even more of a moot point.
    Also spare extractors and firing pins and springs are light and take no space or weight
    Overall great video and good points

    • @conceptualconcepts6.9
      @conceptualconcepts6.9  Месяц назад

      @@ozarkman291 absolutely true, all good point brought up. I personally have a pretty decent stockpile myself and all these considerations aren’t deal breakers. But still think it’s something to keep in mind and plan for if you’re using an AK for SHTF. All that being said I think training and familiarity is way more important than what rifle you’re using.
      Thanks for the continuous support!

    Everyone has their own fantasy scenario about how a shtf scenario would go, but most of them sound really bad. At that point, you may as well train both because you aren't guaranteed to have your specific rifle in a given event. Best to just use what you enjoy and train on multiple platforms, for familiarity.

    • @conceptualconcepts6.9
      @conceptualconcepts6.9  Месяц назад +3

      Very true, and if you’re scavenging ammo there’s gonna be a rifle that uses that ammo next to it. I’m not really convinced there’s a right answer. Because there’s a million different scenarios that could play out if things ever came to SHTF.

    Whatever you go for it has to be lightweight. Long barrels wont do for SHTF. You cant be long range accurate in a run and gun. Calories are important. You are more likely to starve carrying a heavy gun.

    As a newbie I honestly am trying to balance both. But I find a HUGE frustration is finding good and not crap 7.62x39 that doesn’t cost an organ
    And an AK that doesn’t have its hidden problems. Personally I finished advanced courses at SDI and have an Aero precision AR15 and a PSA 103 premium which I will need to gut those rivets and learn how to do that
    (If you know any ammo that would be great please let me know!)

      So I’ve heard a lot of crap about tela-ammo, I’m on my second case and it’s performed amazing. Some people say it’s corrosive but I haven’t cleaned my alpha AK in the last 5k RDS and over 1k of tela. No issues with corrosion so I’m not sure where they’re getting that. Last week I saw it on sale for $400 a case (which I know isn’t 2018 prices. But it’s the best it’s been since the sanctions.) I don’t have a full review but I did put it up against the AAC ammo in my review of that. You can see how it performed there. Honestly incredibly well.
