only Tom Hanks can make us all cry for a volleyball being lost at sea!
Wilson!!!.....
Literally, I was feeling like a fool for getting teary at that moment but it was so damn sad!!
A god damn volleyball!!!
Volleyball represents a part of his humanity, so your not just crying over a ball.
We weren't crying for the volleyball. We were crying for him. Tom Hanks' character's loneliness was immense, and therefore he humanized an inanimate object as his only source of hope to one day seeing civilization again.
A bit of sad trivia: Lari White (lady at the end) passed away in 2018, at the age of 52 of cancer. She and her husband had 3 children..She was a Grammy award winning country singer..R.I.P., dear lady.
She had such a great voice and presence on stage. So very sad she was taken so young.
Oh that is awful! Much too young to pass away! 💔 R.I.P.
The red head angel wing lady? She was a Grammy winning country singer? I never heard of her and I grew up listening to a lot of country music what songs did she sing?
"I've got to keep breathing because tomorrow the sun will rise. Who knows what the tide could bring." - This line gives me the feels every single time. 🥲 Thanks for a wholesome reaction.
This movie highlights what a great actor Hanks is, for most of the movie it’s just him, alone and with no music or anything and he entertains and gets us to care about a volleyball turned imaginary friend for sanity’s sake. So good!
Very beautifully put!! Even without all the bells and whistles that come with most films like music or costars he commanded the scene so well!
Exactly but let's not underestimate the writing as well. Recent times are a perfect example that you could have the most talented cast but if the writing is bad the movie will be mediocre at best.
@@Karadjanov That’s very true, not to mention the director who is telling Hanks what to do and how to do it, as well as the improv from the actor brings it all together
The only other person to pull such a feat off was James Stewart in a film about Lindbergh crossing the Atlantic (I cannot remember the name of the film).
@@jackmessick2869 The Spirit of St. Louis!
Not sure if you noticed or not but there is no music played while he is marooned on the island, its purposely omitted to make him seem more alone in the middle of the ocean. Getting an effect with the lack of an effect.....brilliant
Oh wow! I didn't consciously notice it but yes it was very effective!!
I like to think that after the scene fades at the end that Chuck got back into his truck and drove after Bettina and they lived happily ever after.
Tom Hanks said that although Chuck had loved Kelly, his true destiny was always Bettina. That's why he kept her package through the entire time he was on the island and why the angel wings became such a symbol. It was her symbol, his true destiny.
Wow i never noticed that, thank you God bless you
Your reactions are so empathic Jade. Your emotion pours out of the screen 🙂
Aww thank you so very much!
Can’t think of an actor having a better decade than Hanks did in the nineties
He owwwnneed the 90s. 🙌
James Stewart in the 1950s.
Did you notice there was no music at all during the island scenes? It only started again as he sailed away on his raft.
I really like your honest emotional reactions. I've seen this a million times and don't always cry anymore, but when you cried when he lost Wilson, I cried again. ❤
My favourite line is where Kelly says “you’re the love of my life” That always hits me hard.. If we’re lucky, we all find someone who feels that way for you..or you for them. Sadly, we cannot always have that person.
Great film this.. I can’t believe it’s 23 years old
"A look into the psychology of survival" - exactly. Well thought.
Thank you very much!
Such an emotional movie, Tom Hanks on his A game as usual!! I cried when he lost Wilson! 😭😭
Absolutely!! I felt so silly for tearing up but it was utterly heartbreaking! 💔
there are very few movies that ever made me teary eyed in the cinema the lion king orginal was 1 (but i was very very young) and when i was older castaway was another.
such a beautiful movie with a great message. glad u enoyed it jade
Nice reaction - my favorite Tom Hanks movies include Splash, Bachelor Party, The Money Pit, Big, Joe vs the Volcano, Philadelphia, Apollo 13, Catch Me If You Can, The Terminal, Bridge of Spies, Sully, The Post, Elvis, and he’s coming out w Asteroid City
I think Hanks was nominated for this - but I don't remember if Wilson was also ...
Hello :) great reaction as always , little dose of fun facts : 1. Director Zemeckis once mentioned , that a solar-powered watertight satelite-phone was in the last unopened Fedex package :) dont know if it was a joke or not but it is fun to think about , never give up and open all packages if it is you , surviving on remote island somewhere :DDD . 2. The screenwriter W. Broyles actually spent a week on the beach trying to survive by himself , that is the reason why it feels so realistic + brilliant acting of Tom Hanks of course :)
When asked "What was in the unopened package" the director replied "A solar powered GPS enabled satellite phone" 😆 lololol
Hes an engineer, thats why hes so resourceful. Being an engineer we a literally taught to look for any possible solution. Keep trying until it works basically
As a wilderness survivalist , this movie was always interesting to me..... I specialized in cold climate survival.... this stranded on a tropical island scenario is nearly foreign to me... I was on Guam for a couple years in the military, got to know the coral reef and surrounding ocean pretty well... Still, wouldn't want a survival situation in that environment.
Awesome reaction video as always. 👍 ❤ 🎥
So interesting, as an Australian I’d prefer my chances of surviving in the heat/tropics than the cold but I’d do terribly either way honestly!
@@MovieJoob In cold climates, with snow, "water" is far less an issue compared to the desert or dry climate environments....also bugs, snakes ect are less a factor in cold climates.
❤ ✌ 👣 I've hiked, backpacked, for more miles than I care to remember in the desert heat and dryness....reaching the water sources becomes a life threatening condition..... Nothing more alarming than running out of water.
Hi jade 👋. The theme of keep breathing because you never know what the tide will bring has helped me through some of my darkest days. Beautiful film. P.S. hit me up when the apocalypse hits..I got your back 😊
Thank you Jade, Jordan and Nick for bringing this reaction to us. It was very enjoyable to watch and I hope to see more.
Awww thank you so incredibly much!! This made my day ❤️❤️❤️ We appreciate you for watching!
Can't wait for Cast Away part 2, Wilson's revenge.!
A lot of people end up thinking he has bought the Wilson ball at the end to make another Wilson, but I think he's actually returning the items he opened and used to the people they were supposed to be delivered.
This was based on a true story. They took a little liberty with it. The FedEx employee did crash and wound up on an island.
You have the most heartfelt reactions
Awww thank you so much!!
What a great movie. Amazing how Tom Hanks lost so much weight for the movie
He did look so under nourished I can’t believe he did that in a short span of time!
Another A+ reaction! If you haven’t checked it out already, please watch Apollo 13. It also has Tom Hanks and Gary Sinise who played Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump
Thank you so very much!! And oooh thank you for the suggestion!
Thank you Jade again you have turned another movie that I enjoyed into an emotional rollercoaster . I really don't know what it is about the way that you open my eyes to see movies that I remember as being good to seeing the emotional side and making them great . Thank you for your beautiful reaction and will be looking forward to your next review
21:14 Yep. The movie that makes you cry over a volleyball. 🏐😭
---
🙈🤷♂😁
Straight up!! I was so heartbroken over the dang volleyball!! 🥺
Awesome movie Tom Hanks delivers as usual. ps to this day i still cannot get my head around the incredible intimate knowledge the Polynesian people had in the art of navigation seafaring and the natural world in which they lived truly next level .
Great reactions to an incredible movie, Jade.
Thank you so much!!
Tom Hanks directed a movie called THAT THING YOU DO about a 50s rock band, it’s the only film he’s directed since and it’s very entertaining.
I refer to this film, when life gets difficult and chaotic, and I tell myself, to "just keep breathing" I basically revert back to basics, and simply my mind
Aww, you’re so strong! Definitely keep breathing! You got this 🙌
Loving the reactions lately. doing some good films!
Thank you so much! More to come!!
8:55! Great shout out! Great respect for those that get none!
They're so damn badass!!
This movie is great from many reasons, but my favorite scenes are with the whale/rescue. Large sea creatures know where the shipping lanes are in their neck of the ocean. Whales and dolphins like to swim with boats for fun. I know this from first hand experience. And there's more than a few stories of whales (and possibly manta rays) guiding and pushing smaller vessels into shipping lanes to be rescued. These creatures are mans best friend in the ocean. Manta Rays are my favorite. They actually enjoy human contact and are totally harmless to us. We need to protect the oceans for future generations. #4ocean
WILSON!
WWWWWWWWWWiiiiiilson WWWWWWWWWWiiilson!!!!
Wiiiiilllssoooooooon!!
Great reaction I had that kind of feeling returning somewhere after 5 years. For me it is about change. We all change every six months or so as we grow. A lot of people forget that.
I remember coming home from war and after an hour back I really didn't want to be there.
Everybody was nice but everyone had changed not just me, that is the point I think .
"Not just dead, hella dead." I'm going to be laughing at that all day!
😂😂 glad you enjoyed that
@@MovieJoob I truly did. Old farts like me don't generally giggle.' But here I am again!
@@stpetie7686 Probably because I'm an old fart at heart too! I may be 26 but I'm truly 86 😂
That's why you wear all sports and outdoor stuff watches, shoes, clothes, carry your 'Bug-Out' backpack.
1. It's a good thing he wasn't strapped in that plane. He would have died.
2. Can you imagine how much back pay this guy is going to get? He's not a rank and file worker either. He's an executive.
3. To make himself look like an average out of shape middle aged man Tom Hanks didn't exercise and allowed himself to grow pudgy. Production was then halted for a year so he could lose fifty pounds, work out and grow out his hair and beard for his time spent on the deserted island.
4. Talk about using realistic tactics to survive.
5. Wilson is exactly what he needed to maintain sanity.
6. In a recent interview Hanks says that Chuck went back to Belinda Wings. Inside the opening scene package included her divorce papers.
7. When he's talking to his friend and says, "I had power over nothing...." is what gets to me.
8.Tom Hanks is the best actor of my lifetime. I'm 62 years old.
FWIW Morse code for SOS is dit dit dit dah dah dah dit dit dit.
All time favorite with Tom Hanks!!! Love this movie!!
It was really great!!!
Great actor Tom hanks
He is absolutely brilliant!!
I'll leave a comment, because algorithms and stuff, but all i have to say is...
...WILSON!!!
Small detail but you can see him in coping mode after he washes up because he is collecting the packages and sorting them, presumably by destination.
You're adorable when you cry. So not fair.
Great movie, great reaction! I never understood how a director/screen writer could keep a straight face with a jet engine on the ocean surface still running though. 🙄
21:49 My personal Head canon is that the Whale is now saying "Hooman! Hooman! I brought Boats! Hooman!"
Never before has losing a piece of sporting equipment been so sad.
facts 💔😭
you cannot go wrong with anything that stars tom hanks i cant think of any movie he has done that is good to fantastic... love everything he has done !! think how his character feels after leaving the place that has kept him alive for years... how scary that would be.
They had to stop filming for 6 months to allow Hanks to get skinny. There were 4 people on the set whose only job was to wipe away everybody's footsteps on the beach
Oh wow! And omg I didn't even think of the crews footprints, wiping them would be a genuinely important job!!
@@MovieJoob there were over 200 people working on the film, so they had their work cut out
He did not have depression and loneliness cause he had Wilson to talk to
This movie is not for people with weak heart, very very emotional
They cut the end scene from the movie. It showed the woman opening the parcel he left at her door. It contained medical supplies, a hunting knife and a satellite phone. 😂
Wow haha
Oh man, that is hilarious, dude!
When you can be on screen for this long and be entertaining, you're legendary.
Best thing about this movie is that after being rescued, he still considers Wilson his best friend.
On an unrelated note, is this Tom Hanks month or something? In the past week or so, I've seen like 10 Hanks movie reviews.
Love your channel 😊 more reactions please 🙏
Thank you so much! More is definitely to come!!
A great reaction to when a city boy is placed in a survival situation. Enjoyed it, Miss.
I always thought it would be funny if the woman at the end of the movie was home when he brought her the package he had been holding on the whole time. And her response is....."Oh my goodness! Is that my satellite phone I ordered 4 years ago?! Wow, I can't believe it! Oh! And also my vintage zippo lighter. And with every purchase of a lighter it comes with a free flare gun. Don't really need that. Its hard to imagine a scenario where I would need one of those, am I right. But hey.....you never know. Sir? You're looking a little pale. You OK?"
Not sure if this has been said, but you missed the wings painted on the tailgate of the lady's truck at the end. I believe he followed that truck.
Another great reaction Jade. You are killing it, your channel is criminally underated. Such a warm soul and very touching reactions. It is like watching a movie with a family member or bestfriend. Be blessed, tomorrow the sun with rise and who knows what the tide will bring. ❤
Aww this is so unbelievably kind!! Thank you so very much ❤️
The struggle of opening a coconut is very real!
Add the movie "Sully" to your Tom Hanks viewing list. The true story of "The Miracle On The Hudson."
Haven't heard of it but thank you so much for the suggestion!!
Everyone cries about Hanks “losing” Wilson, but Wilson wasn’t lost - he left.
Wilson shows up when Hanks needed him most, and he stayed with Hanks until he knew Hanks was going to be okay and Wilson wasn’t needed anymore. That’s when he left; he swam away because his part in Hanks’ life was over. (Like the friends and important people who have come and gone in our lives, but when they were in it they were exactly who we needed at that point. - And if anyone says this doesn’t happen, either they are lying or they are not self-aware.)
In each instance of seeming bad luck, that bad luck actually proved to be good luck - though not immediately obvious. For example, in the aircraft when Kelly’s watch went to the other side of the cabin and he thought he was going to lose it (bad luck), it was him unbuckling and being down on the floor that saved his life as the seat he had been sitting in exploded when the force of the plane going into the water hit it. And this goes on throughout the story. (This is a later in life realization as it needs hindsight perspective to see the points in the past which, at the time, we thought were bad luck actually turned out to be better for us.)
In many ways, this draws from Hanks’ character in “Sleepless in Seattle” (traumatic loss, depression) and takes another look at the question he ponders in “Forrest Gump” - do we have a destiny or are our lives like a feather being carried by whatever breeze happens to catch us next?
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.
To anyone who's interested in what was in the box he delivers (to the woman in the truck). The original script had Chuck open it and read a letter inside, which read... "You said our life was a prison. Dull. Boring. Empty. I can't begin to tell
you how much that hurt. I don't want to
lose you. I'm enclosing some salsa, the
verde you like. Use it on your sticky
rice and think of home. Then come home
-- to me. We'll find the spice in our
lives again. Together. I love you.
Always. Bettina.
Great stuff, MJ, really looking forward to this with you :)
Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy! 😊
Such a beautiful movie and such a lovely reaction from you. If I can make a wish: please give us a few more minutes of your thoughts after the movies.
Now try "Road to Perdition ". Hanks as an Enforcer/Hitman...
One of my several favorite movies of all time. Believable, but almost a fantasy.
They gave that man a fucking SEAFOOD BUFFET on his return. How fucked up is that
After the way this movie starts, I always wonder if that plane went down because someone at FedEx was rushing the maintenance mechanics.
love seeing another aussie do reactions.
watch "Breakfast Club"!
Thank you!! And I have actually seen that film before! My mum showed it to me. 😊
oh lovely! then i also highly recommend
"lock, stock & two smoking barrels"
I remember when this movie came out and there was this commercial about that box he never opened and the was a GPS and a satellite phone in it. Funny commercial
Yes! Originally a Super bowl Ad..Great commercial!
Wouldn't miss the reactions for anything. Jade I could come along with you anytime and anywhere and I would never be bored in the slightest. Another Tom Hanks film is Apollo 13. Plus I celebrated my 24th birthday on Sunday this week, this was a nice reaction. Please don't stop being as great as you are
That is so sweet as always Randy!! Thank you so much! And thank you for the suggestion I will definitely look into it! And Happy Birthday!! 🎂 I hope you had an amazing day! ❤️
@@MovieJoob you are absolutely welcome. I had a pretty good birthday, went to Jose Peppers for lunch and got a bean bag as well along with frozen raspberry cake plus my sister might take me bowling at some point
@@randywebb2100 Oh awesome! That sounds like a lovely time!
@@MovieJoob certainly was. Not sure when bowling will happen, am sure to use the bean bag when playing Minecraft and or apex legends on PS4 while listening to late 2000's and early 2010's music along with joining the reactions when they come up
I LOVE THIS MOVIE! THANK YOU
I’m so glad!! Thank you for watching!
Great reaction. Liked
Thank you so much! 😊
26:53 IMO it isn't _gaslighting_ for others to try and tell her that she needs to move on, even though she had a feeling he was alive. Do you? 🤷🏼♂️
Outstanding reaction.
*EDIT:* Did you not catch the wings painted on the back of the woman's truck? You didn't mention it (not here in YT edit anyway). But going to see her was an option most audiences expected him to go towards.😊
There was also a statue of wings In the ladies yard
My favorite movie! I don’t like the first part, or the last part, but the middle is really good!🌿
How can u say u don't like certain parts but not the whole movie? Even though you say it's your favorite... makes no sense
09:20. I’m absolutely sure your mind would be exceptional in an extreme event! You have it!
In an interview Tom Hanks said. I know what I would do. I would head down that dirt road after the girl in the truck.
Cast away is a great movie! Hope to see you react to The Whale soon :D would love to see your reaction to that!
A great movie. It is based off of Robinson Crusoe. This is called a “virtuoso” movie where one actor has the vast majority of the lines, like “Cyrano de Bergerac” or “The Martian”. It take a brilliant actor to do it well.
Lol funny hearing you say "Hella" that's a California thing, I would know I grew up in the Bay Area and hella use the word hella 😂
You should watch Captain Philips next! It's a great Tom Hanks movie!
Another great Tom Hanks movie you'd really enjoy is Catch Me if You Can with Leonardo DiCaprio, it's based on a true story.
Thank you so much for the suggestion!! 🙌
That was her with the wings on the truck, you may have missed that...
Yes, can he drive? He’s basically a feral creature with no drivers license. I guess it’s like ‘riding a bike’?
I let my dog drive me to work once, didn’t go well.
Good old Helen Hunt. She kind of disappeared after this movie. One of the biggest actresses in the 90s. Most gen Xers would probably find our way to survive this if it came really down to it.
Hi Jade hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤
Thank you as always John! Hope you have a great day!! ❤️
Later on FED-EX went back to put a HUB on that island.😁
I've been on a Deserted island for 4years And I come home to crab legs and sushi. Who's brilliant ideas with that...
He doesnt care about Kelly , he s got Wilson now
You say you're not a survivalist, and would die but if you were faced with that situation I bet you would surprise yourself and what you could do and what you could endure.
True, human survival instincts are so strong! But I am very untalented 😂
@@MovieJoob trying not to argue but... Talent is irrelevant when you are starving, I guarantee you would learn what you needed, a don't think you'd give up. all it takes is some persistence. Just irks me when people sell themselves short, I'm Just a "die fighting" type and don't understand people who claim not to be.
Tom Hanks is one of the most wonderfull actor that i ever seen like Leo Dicaprio. Please "The Departed" Reaction ;"D
Thank you for the suggestion!!
it is better to have loved and lost............. than to have never loved a ball.
I… omg 😂😂
Shame so much of the pre-island scenes were cut here. Especially with Kelly. Helen Hunt kills it here.
Also, I've seen some of your reactions to stuff like Saving Private Ryan, when you were yelling for the unarmed German soldiers to be killed with no empathy at all. That didn't freak you out. And yet a tooth segment in a film makes you look away, which kind of defies the point of a reaction. Quit being a pansy and just watch. It's just a film.
In the USA, a driver's license is valid for 10 years, (with some exceptions), so assuming he got his driver's license within 5 years prior to becoming a castaway, his driver's license would not have expired. Technically I'd like to think he'd be legal to drive, but the fact that he has been declared dead might mean that all of his legal documents would need to be re-instated. Then there's any life-insurance settlement that a might have to be returned since he never died? I can't imagine the nightmare of red-tape just to restore one's identity.
The sequel could have just been scenes of him spending hours waiting in line in various government buildings, dealing with bored and rude employees as he simply tries to get documents sorted and filed that prove his existence.
Good point asking if he can drive. I'm sure he would remember how but his license would be expired so he can't legally drive.
Kinda need The Pacific 5 and 6 soon.
Coming up soon!! So sorry for the delay!
