I'm watching The Green Mile for the first time ever!
I can't wait to experience this iconic film for the first time! The Green Mile is such a beloved film by so many people and I can't wait to for you all to watch along with me
Paul, the head guard of a prison, meets an inmate, John, an African American who is accused of murdering two girls. His life changes drastically when he discovers that John has a special gift.
Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks) walked the mile with a variety of cons. He had never encountered someone like John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan), a massive black man convicted of brutally killing a pair of young sisters. Coffey had the size and strength to kill anyone, but not the demeanor. Beyond his simple, naive nature and a deathly fear of the dark, Coffey seemed to possess a prodigious, supernatural gift. Paul began to question whether Coffey was truly guilty of murdering the two girls.

Hey you good?
It's not entirely uncommon to shoit mice they make rat shot just for that great reaction this movie always gets me
Eu sugiro o filme Enemy Mine, é lindo demais.
Rip Michael Clarke Duncan, he was such a great actor
I had no idea he passed 😢 R.I.P. he seemed like such a beautiful person!!
@@MovieJoob He was awesome in the Daredevil movie too
@MovieJoob omg you look like the white queen from Alice in wonderland live action movie
RiP Michael Jeter. You did more then just talk slow and stutter through the whole movie. Your performance was amazing
@@Brandon-th4xx The pain in Jeter's voice, yelling NO, when Percy kills Mr. Jingles sounds so real.
I have seen your reaction now to several movies. You are a very tender-hearted lady. Don't let anyone convince you to change. The world needs more people like you. Great reaction by the way.
Aww this is so unbelievably kind! I thank you so much for your lovely words!! 🥹
I always tear up when I watch this movie, but seeing your reaction to Dell's horrific execution broke my heart.
The cruelty that humans can show to humans or other animals always destroys my soul a bit! 💔
@@MovieJoob Gird your soul with the knowledge that the cruelty is in the minority; there is even greater kindness in this world. You, yourself, are evidence of that.
@@bigdream_dreambig There is indeed a lot of beauty and kindness and mercy and gentleness in the world and that is something I adore about humans! The altruism and love humans can provide is one of the greatest things in the world too!
@@MovieJoob Sadly that’s true but never ever forget that humans are capable and have shown countless times that we have within us unimaginable beauty and compassion as well.
I cried a river of tears watching this movie! 😭😭
Yeah I almost snot bubbled a bit 🫢😢
as a former convict, Brutal's words hits so close to home. "He paid what he owed! He's square with the house again!"
Absolutely, when the time has been paid that is their lot!! It has been done.
@@MovieJoob Unfortunately we still punish people after their time is done. Now, I am all for keeping tabs on people who have trouble understanding boundaries and the meaning of "no". By all means, keep tabs on them and keep them in a register.
But every other former criminal should be given a clean slate, in every sense of the word. No record to inform employers about, no judgment from the society around you, and most importantly, no alienation because of former actions. That is the number 1 factor that drives people to commit new crimes. Returning to their old network where they are accepted.
Edit: almost forgot, love the reaction, keep them coming. "Gran Torino" Is a really great movie I think you would enjoy :)
@@scar445 🤔 You make some interesting points. Perhaps you should work to try to make those changes a reality.
@@bigdream_dreambig Been doing that almost 6 years. managed to get security clearance to work security (After a thorough talk with PET, danish version of homeland security, where I had to argue for why they should allow me to take the educaton.) Now, I try to talk to all the troublemakers I get into contact with. You never quite forget the jargon
@@bigdream_dreambig oh, no snarky comment to that, huh?
What a beautiful film. RIP to Michael Clarke Duncan. He was amazing as John Coffey.
R.I.P. Indeed!! ❤️💔
Well done for making it through this one. A great reaction to a wonderful movie. Very hard to watch in places with Del's execution being one of the most brutal scenes and seems to go on for ever . Del's relationship with Mr Jingles must be one of the most touching relationships in all film. So many great performances. Stephen King has called this his favourite adaptation of one of his books.
Such great performances all around!! And yes that scene of Del's execution was so painful!! 💔😢 I loved his relationship with Mr Jingles!
You mentioned something about mental ward during the reaction. Jack Nicholson in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest 1975.
I'm impressed with your knowledge of so many things - history, film, medical, etc. There are very few reactors your age that understand the background in many of these films. And your emphathy is great.
You seem like a really intelligent, insightful and empathetic person. Loved the reaction
Awww that means the world to me, thank you so deeply!
There are many Stephen King books adapted for film. Some of the kesser known are "Dead Zone," "Thinner," "Needful Things," " Salem's Lot," (two versions are available), "Pet Sematary," "Storm of the Century," "Carrie," and more.
I read "The Green Mile" before it became a film. You should consider reading it if you have the time. The book goes into detail about the backstory of death row prisoners, Arlen Bitterbuck and Eduard Delacroix. The scene where Del is about to walk the green mile, he tells the guards that he wish he had met them at an earlier time in his life. He seemed to believe his future would have been different because the guards showed respect and compassion. He believed he would have been a better person.
I’ve seen about a dozen reactions to this movie, you being the only one amongst them who had any idea who Fred & Ginger are/were. In my day (I’m 72) & my parents day literally everyone was well acquainted with the iconic duo, but nowadays most younger folk don’t have a clue..... depressingly true 😶 you’re one of the fortunate few 👌
Stephen King at it again. I have to say you have one of the kindest hearts and empathy. It really is touching and glad to see it still in this world. I was crying with you.
Aww that is so incredibly kind of you! Thank you for joining me on this journey!!
Stephen King added his element to it, but John Coffey character was based on the real life story of George Stinney Jr.. A 14 yr wrongly convicted and executed for the same crime John was.
@@bigb2494 good show old chap. So you wanna add your 5th element to the story. I suggest reading his books. he added his element, he wrote the short stories. With out the publisher there is no Green Mile
@@davidward9737 I'm not giving my element. I'm merely giving part of Stephen King's inspiration behind the character.
@@bigb2494 ah but you are. If you didn't want to interject. I appreciate your element kind sir
I love watching your reactions, very genuine and empathetic. Another great movie under your belt.
That is so very kind, thank you so much!! 😊
Living longer past our time is a punishment, but a price we have to pay for the good of the world .
Even after seeing this like 50 times, when they show us the "flicker show" and we hear that song, I lose it every time. 😭
John gave this man the shine
One of my favorite lines is when Brutal says to Percy about Bitterbuck "He's paid what he owed. He's square with the house again. So you keep your goddamned hands off him!" Regardless of one's beliefs about the death penalty, once someone has paid the ultimate penalty, they've paid what they owed, at least in this life. And the next life is between them and God.
Michael Clarke Duncan is supposed to have thought back to the day his father abandoned the family to evoke the emotional pain of parts of his role in the movie...
Ah, interesting to know
This and The Shawshank Redemption are my two favorite movies. Both based on a Stephen King novel, both directed by Frank Darrabont and both set in a prison, but while The Green Mile is dark and despairing The Shawshank Redemption has one of the most satisfying endings in all cinema, if you haven't watched it yet it would be the perfect follow up to this movie. Love your reactions keep them coming. 😊
I have seen Shawshank Redemption and I absolutely adored it!! I had no idea it was based on a Stephen King novel! And thank you so much 😊
@@MovieJoob thank you, another Stephen King adaptation you might like is Dolores Claiborne with Cathy Bates and Jennifer Jason Leigh. 😊
This film still brings tears to eyes for John Coffey not so much for Dale anymore to be honest once I found out what he was in prison for.
A fantastic film and a rarity!
Beautifully acted and written, I can’t fault this film at all.
Certainly a personal favourite film of mine and would recommend this film to anyone who likes their films.
I thank you for viewing this film x
A very honest and heartfelt reaction , the best kind.
Aww thank you so very much!
This is my 3rd favorite movie of all time, i still cry to this day watching this movie 😢Such a kind and great man dying for no reason and it's so well played by all actors to make us feel so many emotions
Michael Jeter who played Del and Michael Clarke Duncan as John Coffey were both great actors. #RIP
The Director Frank Darabont should do masterclasses in how to film a prison movie.
They were absolutely wonderful!! I cared so much for their characters and I am in awe of those actors!
Michael Clarke Duncan was 6’5” as tall as David Morse (Brutal) but they used risers and camera angles to make him appear much bigger
Ahhh I see! That makes sense since Brutal looked super tall too!
James Cromwell, who played the warden, tops them all at 6'7".
Thank you for sharing your reaction to one of my favorite movies. Parts of it are difficult. I hope that you found it worth that stress.
Thank you for joining me on this film!! ❤️
Sam Rockwell was so good in this movie!
Your first reaction to seeing Mr. Jingles was so sweet. "Yum, yum yum"... 🐭☺ Absolutely made my day.
You're quickly becoming one of my go-to reactors.
John Coffey's initials are "JC" Jesus Christ. The parallels or similarities of the two are close. They both performed miracles, people witnessed those miracles and everyone wanted him to be put to death. He was scared of the dark because the dark represents evil and he is basically an angel of God. light vs dark. The reveal of why the music got to him is brutal.
Absolutely! He was definitely like a reincarnation of Jesus! He was angelic!
Same writer, director producers, and many minor actors also in Shawshank Redemption! Dean is the sniper in Saving Private Ryan with Hanks, and also the reporter in Once we were Soldiers!😮😮. He did a really beautiful, I think True story movie, about a pilot crashing in northern Canada or Alaskan wilderness, and was saved and helped by a native Inuit young girl. I won't ruin the end of it for u! The old trustee in this is Harry Dean Stanton! He's been in every movie made since the silent era!😁. Dillinger, Red Dawn, Godfather 2,this, and many others!
Trying to imagine right now when she's watching the movie hachi the dogs tale. she will cry like never before. saddest movie ever. hope she sees it sometime.
I've never seen the film but I know the true story about Hachi and I would 1000000% cry over that 🥺😢
@@MovieJoob
I swear this movie will totally destroy you. I've never cried more in my life. many here have already reacted to hachi and everyone cried like never before at a film. at the same time, the film is beautiful.
I really love your reactions. You’re such a beautiful light in these dark times.
That movie broke me several times but I have managed to enjoy it
«I’m sorry for what I am.» So sorry to hear that, John. It gets me every time.
We are introduced to John coffee again AKA Michael Clarke Duncan. Then we watch them both die again. Rest in peace Michael Clarke Duncan you definitely were a good guy gentle giant.
Real talent in this picture, so much so that Doug Hutchison (Percy) got tons of hate mail for months after this movie came out.
Not necessarily for his acting🤔😉
He was incredibly punchable in this film 👊
Loved your video thanks such a sad and uplifting film x
It tells us that angels don't always come as beautiful, young, blond white girls with wings.
I was 10 years old when I first saw this movie back 2000. I had school the next day this came on. And caught my attention . When John's death came on I cried so hard my dad came crushing the door he saw me on the carpet looking at the TV and he realized why I was crying . He just sat down next to me. 😊. I cry to the scene still and my dad is gone.
Been a while since I’ve seen that movie, forgot just how amazing it was.
The red or bright coats at nursing homes are so personnel can spot easily a patient who has wandered off or run away.....usually crucial, as in time is of the essence when then subject has dementia and cannot find their way back.
Yes that makes a lot of sense, it's safest for the older folk living there to be spotted asap!
Love your reactions keep on keeping on! 💯
Thank you so much! So glad you enjoy!!
This is a movie everyone should watch at least one time. No same in shedding a tear or two watching it. As always fun to watch MovieJoobs reaction to it. Though a different kind of movie, I hope she will watch the movie King Kong, from 2005 I believe, by Peter Jackson. It is a movie I think she will enjoy, though it has it sad moment as well.
Toot was a trustee, which usually means a prisoner who is given certain small responsibilities in return for good behavior.
Ahh, I see! Thank you for the info!!
Beautiful reaction!
Back during the depression of the 1930s there were several "transient workers" like Wild Bill. There were plenty of young single men that couldn't get a regular job so they wandered the country doing odd jobs for people for their supper.
Again just a beautiful reaction seeing you upset brought tears to my eyes your reaction is so pure I am so glad to watch so great movies through your eyes as you have brought new meaning to so many of my favorite movies
Aww that means the absolute world to me! Thank you so much for your kind comment!!
1:40 - Girl, I hate to say this.... but each decade since the 1950s has been defined by what was on television. In the 50s, it was the "White nuclear family with precocious children, a single family home in the suburbs with a white picket fence." shows. The 60s saw the rise of the Hippy movement and colour TV shows, but it was the "sitcom" that dominated the later part of the decade. The 70s was the "Disco" era filled with Variety shows. The 80s brought Cable TV into homes, and more diversely cast sitcoms came around. The 90s..... Oh. My. God. It was dominated by "Trash TV", with tons of shows just like Springer (look up Morton Downey Jr. if you want to see who originated that whole thing). It became popular to watch "regular people" self destruct in front of a live studio audience. It was like a car accident, you WANT to look away, but you just can't seem to.
Great job on the editing.
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.
MJ, I was eager to see your reaction to this gem....but I was also concerned, because I've seen what a sweet and tender heart you have, and your reaction to Dell's execution really got to me. Thank you for sharing yourself and your reactions with us.
Aww, thank you for watching!! I really appreciate your kind words!
I am a fan of your reaction videos. You actually immerse yourself in the movies and truly react. It is a thing of beauty...this is another one. Thank you‼
Aww that means so much! Thank you very much I'm so glad you enjoy!!
In the book, Del's crime is having committed a rape/murder, he set a fire to destroy the evidence and it spread, killing 4 adults and 2 kids. Arlen ("Chief") killed someone in a bar fight.
Joob: "Oh, I love Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire!"
Me: "Oh, she's going to feels town today."
And feels town was indeed my destination 🫡
A much less traumatizing but equally good movie of Mr King is called Stand By Me.
1. YOU WILL CRY
2. Dabbs Greer/old Paul was ill during production, so his part was done later. He also played Reverend Alden on "Little House on the Prairie".
3. Hammersmith was not a good lawyer.
4. In the book King briefly covers why the Chief and Del are on death row.
5. This movie was nominated for Best Supporting Actor (MCD)😇 and Best Cast but unfortunately neither won.😭😭
6. Players in other King adaptations: Jeffery DeMunn: Shawshank Redemption, The Mist,
Storm of the Century and William Sadler: Shawshank Redemption, The Mist. David Morse:
The Langoliers. Patricia Clarkson played Margarat White in King's remake of Carrie". Needless to say, it was a much different part.
7. Goof: Electricity makes the body contract. Del wouldn't be able to scream. I know it' just for the movie because of the length of the execution scene.
8. IRL James Cromwell is a vegan and didn't want to grill meat for the BBQ scene but
was told that in 1935 people actually ate meat so he agreed to have some on the grill.
9. RE Percy: Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. KARMA's a Bitch. BTW Kudos to Doug Hutchison for the great job of playing Percy.👌EVERYONE hates him.
10. John also rescues the other patients at Briar Ridge.
11. IRL both David Morse and James Cromwell are about the same height as Michael Clark Duncan (RIP). They used planks, a small bed and smaller chair along with trick photography to make John taller.
12 The scene where John takes Mr. Jingles for safe keeping before Del's execution, they used a real mouse, and it pooped on Paul's shoulder, and he brushed it off.
13. Now we know what the "day old is fine" dry toast is for.
14 EVERYBODY cries and has to take time to reflect. Congratulations you just experienced.
the GREATEST MOVIE EVER. (GOAT)
15. 4 words for you: Stephen King. You're WELCOME!
Your channel popped up in my feed, with THIS film of all things. "Oh yeah, she's about to get wrecked into a Hot Mess." But you're a beautiful Hot Mess, and don't ever change. Absolutely subbed!
Aww thank you so much so glad you enjoyed!! 😊
Quite a classic now - I also had no idea what this was about until I watched it on DVD (or the Telly, I forget) for the first time - but a great film. Thanks MJ, again, your reactions don't disappoint.
Totally, I had no idea what I was in for but it was so great! Thank you for joining me!! I'm so glad you enjoyed ❤️
Again I love your reaction 😊
I'm so glad, thank you so much! 😊
Thank you for sharing this lovely reaction. I noticed your knee bouncing with stress about half way through, I do the same thing 🤗. Love and hugs from Nova Scotia 🙏😁
Great Reaction ❤
You seem to have a genuine lovely nature don't lose that, great reaction.
That is so kind of you!! Thank you so much! 😊
12:52 About the protagonist not seeing a doctor. This movie is set a few years before approval and industrialization of antibiotics. And he has an infection, probably not the first one in his life. He knows he'll have to wait his own body fight the infection off.
Great reaction as always! this movie destroys me every time i see it, heart-breaking!
Another great movie by Frank Darbont. Is The Shawshank Redemption. It stars Morgan Freeman, Tim Robins, and Clancy Brown.I believe it came out in 1994. It is a classic film!
I'm watching the intro and thinking: "By Jove! You're not ready for this... Have you got 3000 tissues ready? You'll be bawling and sobbing most of the time... Is aspirin at hand? You'll be fighting for your breath so hard you may get a heart attack, headache and chest pain are guaranteed... Ok, let's go. I'll be there, crying with you."
Excellent REACTION
I loved your reaction just like I have always loved this film! It was a pleasure to watch your heartfelt reaction! You seem like such a lovely kind hearted lady! I look forward to watching more of your videos :)

Great reaction of this masterpiece greetings from perú
The "rehearsal" inmate is Toot. He is a trustee inmate but not on death row. Trustees receive special privileges at the prison. There was no effective treatment for UTI. Penicillin was not available for use until after WWII.
Thank you so much for the additional info/context! That makes a lot more sense!!
Hiya Jade, another great reaction, i have seen his movie i cannot remember how many times at ppl reacting to it, and each time it is the same, it has a fundamental impact on everyone, it is Beautiful, heart breaking and touches each and everyone's very soul, i always grab a box of tissues before watching a reaction to this, May god bless Michael's soul Rip. as always take care, looking forward as always to your next reaction, ttfn..........

It was really sad indeed! Thank you so much!!
It's a truly touching reaction
Thank you so much!
I haven't seen this reaction, yet, but I hope you have some tissues.😭
One of my top 5 movies of all time and one of the few I give an A+ rating. You feel for these characters. Some you feel like hugging while others you feel like strangling. Excellent job by all. Here we go.
Very nice. Thank you so much for this little glimpse back to the past. I remember this picture was kind of a big deal upon release. Liked it back then. Still do today. I own the CD, so I've studied it many times. This beautiful story never disappoints. Thank you for your thoughts. I think it is super cool to watch you guys in your discovery of our generations movies and music. Loving these reaction videos. This was a good pick and I'm really liking your style. You are highly intelligent and super empathetic. Your tears are so beautiful. Like your style. You have a good heart, Love. So tender and kind. Guard it well. Keep guarding your heart well. Don't let this old world harden your heart, as it does so many. Your instincts were spot on with this nice film. I hit the Sub, button, black bell, like, and here's my little comment for you. Hoping you go far. Good luck with your channel moving forward. Big shoutout from this old, longhaired, country boy in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. U.S.A. Bless you and yours. See you on the next. Much peace and lots of love, darling. Take it easy. Go with God. Later.
MCD is such a teddy bear in this movie! R.I.P
The prison guards drugged a prisoner to brake out another one and Jade is worried that mr Jangles is stuck in a padded cell with Percy.
You're so sweet Jade 🥰
Hehehehe and I don't take it back 😝 Mr Jingles doesn't deserve to be stuck with nasty Percy! And awww thank you so much! (Also I love your profile pic!🦍)
This was a very amazing film, Emotional but yet amazing
Great reactions as always 🥰 and you heart and beauty always show through please keep making videos love from Ireland ☘️ 🫶🏻

Very emotional movie. One you watch once and never again.
Definitely! I didn't know what to expect and it absolutely made me emotional!
Perhaps an odd request, but you should react to Prince of Egypt, if you haven't already seen it. Animated 90's movie about the Exodus story, but told in a way that is accessible to all walks of life. Excellent score (Hans Zimmer) and catchy musical numbers (Through Heaven's Eyes a personal favorite). Not to mention captivating voice acting.
Underated classic
So many good Stephen King adaptations, and this is one of the best
Enjoying your reactions. After watching your reaction to Forest Gump, I watched this partially cause its a great movie and partially to see if you'd make it through.
I congratulate you, dear young lady. You're an extreme rarity, hon. A young person who knows who Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers are!!! I think I've found a new favorite!! I love your accent, too. You check all the boxes!! 🌹If that's not enough, your name is Jade!!! 🥰❤️🌹
The book (or series of books) hits just as hard if not harder. Seriously difficult to read it through the waterfall of tears.
Also, in the book, anyone healed by John is functionally immortal but can still die from car crashes or accident/violencce.
Agreed. And I did appreciate in the book that Mr Jingles & Paul lived as long as they did because they were healed by him. Not because because he intentionally passed something on to Paul.
The book also does a great job of allowing you to feel sorry for Del’s suffering at the end but reminds you that most of them did horrible shit to end up on the green mile.
You are so beautiful, Jade!! ❤️🌹 You have a great heart, too. You're kind and sensitive!! Lots of love to you, dear girl!! 🥰❤️🌹
As an old lonely Gramps myself, watching you suffer during the horrific execution scene touched me. Such a tough thing to watch especially for a young, sensitive person. You can have a huge virtual hug and a big old shoulder any time. How lovely you are! Like a grand daughter and you must be protected at all costs.
I don’t have any grandfathers alive sadly so I will gladly adopt you as my grandpa! 👴❤️
FUN FACT: Michael Clarke Duncan RIP who plays John Coffey was tall (195 cm) but not actually that tall. He is one inch taller than David Morse (192 cm) who plays Brutus Howell. They use tricks, like him standing on platforms and camera ankles to make him look massive. For example at the beginning, when they first enter the prison walking together, Coffey is walking on a wooden platform runway if i recall correctly. The problem with that is if you try to do that with normal tall people looks unnatural, but not with Duncan because of how muscular he was, like a bodybuilder.
he was a HUGE guy
Even though Stephen King has the reputation as the master of horror he have been writing stories like The Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption, Stand By Me and has also written a lot of fantasy! King is the king!
I love this movie my favourite movie
Jade, your empathy does you credit. 🤭😘🥰
Aww you’re so sweet thank you!
I absolutely love The Green Mile.
